    Onion rings

Great onion rings--excellent crispiness and balanced salt flavore. Pizza a little on the smaller side for the price, but tasty with zippy sauce. Did carryout but would like to try dining in sometime.

In true Abbie's style, they decorated for Valentine's Day. Very cute decor and even a spot to take selfies. The parking lot was full, but still plenty of seating inside. We were seated right away and ordered onion rings. The special was pay for a medium and get a large. We still had an enormous amount to take home. I personally wasn't a fan. I thought they used to be thinner, but on top of not being thin, they had zero flavor. Thank goodness the pizza did. Even had it cold for leftovers. Not sure if hot is better than cold. Our service was good. However, we witnessed a couple get seated with menus and then not one person come up to them in over ten minutes so they upped and left. Felt bad for them because our experience was decent.

We haven't been here since pre Covid & with a different name! Nice updates & absolutely wonderful service. Waitress was so attentive & engaging. Nice booths & a few tables in the front, with a room with big tables at the back. We started with a medium order of onion rings & they were fine. They're a bit different so that was fun to try. Four sizes of rings offered & medium was perfect. They came quickly! Our medium 1/2 sausage 1/2 pepperoni pizza was tasty. It, too, was the perfect size, with a couple of pieces leftover. It's a fine pizza place & we noted several takeouts.

    Medium onion rings w/creamy parm

My server was an older lady (at least 60s) who was very attentive the entire time I was there. I ordered a medium onion rings for myself--which was too much. They have a light cornmeal-based breading...just the right amount. The creamy parm reminded me of the dressing at the Tavern. The meatball on my pasta was very firm--and flavorful. Care had been taken to make these. So why the three stars and not higher? I'm certain the pasta was not actually cavatelli, as it lacked the firmness and doughiness of cavatelli. Instead, the dish was closer to conchiglie, or shell pasta. Not quite the same effect. The sauce was zippy and a half portion was plenty. I'll try them again--but maybe pizza instead of pasta.

    Itialian sausage samwitch.

Food was really good, staff we're awesome. The large samwitch is huge. I couldn't finish it.

This is a legendary Des Moines pizza recipe that has thrived for over 70 years and I'm thankful Abbie's holds up the tradition. The pizza is spot on if you recall La Pizza House from SE14th. The onion rings, too (although our batch could've cooked another minute). I wish they tried to recreate the salads of LPH as they were special in their own way.

Food was really tasty, not to mention abundant. Massive servings will definitely leave you with left overs to go. Onion rings were great with a corn meal breading. Not sure if they're were homemade, but they were good enough not to care. Sandwiches are served and Italian loaf bread, they're huge. I had the tenderloin and it was great even a day later. My adult daughter had the meatball sandwich and gave me a meatball to try, amazing is what it was! The pizza that came out to tables looks great, I will definitely be back to try some. Also ordered a draft beer, and it came in the frostiest mug i think I've ever had. Last of all, the young lady working the counter and the dining room was very pleasant and kind and easy to carry on conversation. Try this local gem. One last thing, the creamy parm sauce is great for salads and dipping onion rings!

Very good pizza, especially enjoyed the gluten free pizza. Good family vibe. Would visit again.

Best pizza around and their homemade bread is nothing short of amazing. Especially if you love garlic.

Being that it was a beautiful, sunny spring afternoon and Cinco de Mayo, we thought it fitting to…read morecombine a bike ride with some margaritas. So, we ventured down the bike trail from Ankeny to Bondurant to try a restaurant we hadn't previously visited. It's a cute little spot in a strip mall off Highway 330, but we arrived on bikes via the back streets. We had the choice of the patio, the main seating area, or the bar. We chose the bar so we could watch all the activity. The place was about half full, but it was eerily quiet, so we jokingly asked where the mariachi band was. The hostess eventually turned on some music, but we could barely hear it, which left us feeling a little less festive. The service was a bit slow, even though they weren't very busy--especially considering what day it was. We actually witnessed some ladies leave after being ignored for too long. I'm not sure what was going on there. But one friendly waiter finally brought us a first round of margaritas ($7.59 on special) and some chips and salsa (complimentary). The margaritas were big and delicious! The chips were fresh, and the salsa--although bland, in my opinion--was fresh and good enough (I added some El Yucateco to spice mine up!). It took quite a while to get our order in, and I originally wanted the ceviche, but was sadly told they didn't have it. So I ordered the Chicken Street Tacos ($14.90), which arrived with just a few small onion slices and no cilantro. :( Kim opted for the Chicken Quesadilla appetizer ($10.59). Once the food arrived, we quickly understood why the ratings aren't all five stars. The quesadilla was super plain, and the chicken in both dishes lacked flavor and wasn't very tender. I had a side of pinto beans that were good but also lacked seasoning. The best things on my plate were the tortillas and the fried jalapeño. We opted for two more margaritas, and Kim switched it up to a Margarona ($12.99)! Like I said, the drinks were good, and our waiter warmed up a bit, adding a touch of personality to the evening. We left feeling full, yet a bit disappointed that we didn't discover the kind of Mexican food gem that would make it worth the travel in the future. It was passable, but nothing I'd make a special trip for.

I had heard many good things about this place from some family members and I was a little skeptical…read moreabout eating Mexican cuisine while traveling.
