It's right across from William & Mary, so you get this great mix of college town and Colonial Williamsburg. When we were there, a man was playing trombone in the square, people were sitting outside, and the whole area just had a wonderful atmosphere. It was super hot outside, but I still loved walking around. Definitely worth spending some time here rather than just passing through. Grab something cold, find a shady seat, browse the shops, and enjoy the ambiance. One of my favorite areas in Williamsburg.

Recently I had the opportunity to visit the square that's nestled between The College of William & Mary and Colonial Williamsburg. During Christmas is one of my favorite times to visit this area. It was hoping too! Crowds were beginning to arrive in Williamsburg for The Grand Illumination the next day. There was music, and a Christmas spirit in the cool crisp air. I visited a few shops that I had time for that were both favorites and new to me. The Cheese Shop for a snack. This shop has been a place I have frequented for decades, it's awesome and an independent run store like most others. I went to R. Bryant, a men's store. Lulu lemon, Danforth Pewter and a new shop Walkabout Outfitters which is a small chain. It replaced a very well known and established independent store I shopped since early 2000. If you're looking for a unique place to shop, eat and also take in a show at the Kimball Theater then Merchants is the place.

I used to be a frequent shopper here when I had to wear suits daily and traveled to the burg often. They still carry the top quality brands such as Barbour, Burberry, Duck Head and others, even the salesman is a legend having worked at the shop since the 1980's. I was looking for some trousers and recalled they carried Bill's Kakis. I tried on a pair that was from the same manufacturer. A 36/34 was a perfect fit on the waist, but needed the length taken in. They still offer free in-house tailoring services. The no pressure sales makes purchases easy. The gentlemen working the shop no the business inside and out. Due to the fact everything they carry is quality materials with exceptional services they are pricey. In my opinion worth the price point. It's literally impossible to find these shops. They will mail your alterations for a fee, or you need to do in store pick up. Turn around is typically within the same week. However, if a rush is needed let them know. I have no clue what tux/suit size my boy is so I eagerly accepted the offer of assistance. Charles came over, we told him what we needed, and he immediately picked out a tux jacket, pants, and dress shirt. My son stepped in to a fitting room to try everything on. The shirt and jacket fit perfectly and the pants needed a little bit of alteration. He also brought over a beautiful bowtie to match my son's date's dress. All dressed up, my son looked SO FINE. Charles really knows what he is doing! I couldn't believe he took one look at my boy, assessed him, and picked out the clothes in the right size at first glance! We opted to purchase the tux, shirt, tie, and belt. There is plenty of fabric to account for additional growth of my boy. Alterations were completed swiftly (much faster than I expected), and we could not be happier. We were also very impressed with the pricing. Everything was reasonable and high quality. This experience is one for the books. We received such excellent customer service and Good Luck had a huge selection. I was afraid I'd be overwhelmed when I walked in, but Charles took over and professionally guided us to the right decisions. Other stores could really learn from Good Luck because that is how customer service should be everywhere. Kudos to Good Luck. They will continue to get my business for future menswear needs.

However, their curbside pickup service gets five stars from me. It's great when I just need something small and quick (most recently, a tablecloth for Thanksgiving) and don't want to spend $75 to get free shipping to my house. I also have a daughter who is too young to wear a mask so I'm not crazy about bringing her inside. I've used it three times now and each time the employee has been super friendly and I've had to wait no more than five minutes in my car. I think a lot of restaurants could take a page out of their playbook for curbside pickup.

I would say more than half the store is men's clothing so my husband has even better finds than I do, but I've had success as well. The store is always clean and everything nicely folded and the dressing rooms are spacious. The sizing does run a little small, so I definitely recommend trying things on, but the clothing holds up and has a timeless quality.

The first red flag came when we explained this to the representative and he said, "I THINK I can handle that." Not in a lighthearted, joking way--in a genuinely unsure way. This kid had NO IDEA what he was doing. We carefully explained everything we wanted, chose the specific styles and had him import it into the JoS. A. Bank software. Let me tell you, this was painful. My fiance and I struggled not to grab the keyboard from him as he cluelessly tried to import our information, all the while clearly deleting everything we had already spent at least 20 minutes letting him set up for our account. At one point, I even asked him if he wanted me to take the keyboard. We eventually got everything saved and left feeling pretty damn unsure about how our order would actually turn out. Sure enough, we go to get my fiance fitted in another location, and he discovers while getting fitted that the kid gave our guys the wrong vest. We have the Baltimore location call the Easton location to change the vest to the correct one, since apparently a phone call is the only way to do it, and are assured the change has been made. We later decide we want a different tie for both the fathers and the ringbearer (he would be so much cuter with a bowtie), so I visit the Easton location directly and make sure to ask for the assistant manager rather than the representative. I felt so much more confident about this guy. He seemed competent, clearheaded, well-versed in the program they use. I asked him twice to confirm the changes just to make sure nothing got screwed up. He assured me they were made. Fast forward to the day before the wedding: Nearly all of the wedding party's vests are wrong--TERRIBLY wrong. Instead of solid black, they're HIDEOUSLY white-and-black diagonal stripes, the vest my fiance had previously changed to solid black. Half the ties are the wrong color. The fathers didn't have the ties I had been reassured they would get by the Easton assistant manager. Half the shoes were different. The best man's pants were 6 inches too short. Thankfully, my fiance noticed many of the issues the day before, and we were promised we would have all the correct pieces the next day (i.e., the wedding day). After all these screw-ups, they at least came through--for the most part--on the wedding day. The best man's pants fit. We got the right vests. The bridesmen and groomsmen got the right ties. But the fathers' ties and half the wedding party's shoes were incorrect. At that point we just let it go. Because what can you do? At least we had the right vests. Avoid this place--and I would go so far as to say JoS. A. Bank in general--at all costs. Every vendor we had for the wedding was incredible, except for this one, and they failed in every way possible. Just don't do it.
