The food was good old fashioned meat and side. Service was quick getting through the line and ambiance dated but authentic. They don't spend money on decorations but spend their time making good solid food. The sweet tea was proper sweet tea!!

While visiting my sister that lives in Alto she suggested we go here on April 16. She has been here many times and said it was very good. She was correct, food was very good. The waitress helped with our drinks to the table and came to check on from time to time. The building looks like it's been there for awhile but the food makes up for it. The cafe definitely gets the business with a lot of locals coming in. I would recommend the cafe if you're in the area.

Stopped to grab some breakfast before a morning hike at MT.Yonah and the food was delicious. Best biscuits ive in a long time!

I found Rabbittown Cafe through all the positive Yelp reviews. As others have already noted, this place works cafeteria-style. Line up, tell them which items you want on your tray, pay at the cashier. I arrived around 8am on a weekday with about 12+ people in line, but it still moved fairly quickly. This is straight, no frills, homestyle, Southern cooking. What makes this place great are the prices. Got a tray of country fried steak, two fried eggs, and potatoes for a little over $5. Rabbittown Cafe is definitely worth checking out if you're in the Gainesville area.

Stopped in on the way to NC for a bite. Not really at all what we were expecting. This is a cafeteria-style place where you grab a tray and some utensils and proceed through the line in a school lunchroom reminiscent way. The food itself isn't bad, but this place is all home cooking so if you're watching what you eat, probably better to stop elsewhere. My kids had fried chicken tenders, fries and Mac and cheese. Chicken was bland, fries were hot and crispy and neither one finished their mac and cheese. I ordered the chicken and dumplings, fried okra and field peas. The chicken and dumplings were good except there were no dumplings. Being from the south and it being one of my favorite dishes, I was very disappointed. The dumplings are a pretty important part of chicken AND DUMPLINGS!! The okra was crisp, but lacked flavor, but the peas were pretty good. Service was overall good. I'm sure there are things you come here and order every time and things that you just don't. There were lots of locals in there, so obviously there's something to this place. Maybe I should have gotten the meatloaf or roast beef or something, but we just didn't enjoy it as we hoped we would.

While heading back to FL from NC/Helen, GA, we wanted to find one more local, off the beaten path spot to try out. Rabbittown Cafe was on our route home and looked like they would have some good, country style cooking. The restaurant is located in a plaza with a large rabbit statue facing the road. I was curious about this statue and did some Googling. Apparently, Rabbittown used to be its own little sparsely populated hamlet before Gainesville absorbed it. Gainesville has a life size statue of a chicken since they are known for poultry, so the area formerly known as Rabbittown erected a much larger than life rabbit statue as a homage to their history (rabbit was a common meal of the residents during the time period.) I thought this was an interesting story behind the area. Anyway, back to the restaurant! The place is set up cafeteria style. They had several lunch entree options and multiple sides to choose from. I opted to try the chicken tenders with mashed potatoes and white gravy and mac and cheese. You also get a choice of bread so I chose a biscuit. My boyfriend got Salisbury steak as his entree and chose the same sides as I did. The staff members were friendly and the line moved pretty quickly. The biscuits here are huge and tasty. The mashed potatoes were creamy and the white gravy had a yummy, peppery taste. The mac and cheese was also good. The chicken tenders were a bit bland, but juicy and had a nice crunch. My boyfriend enjoyed his Salisbury steak as well. They also open early to serve breakfast and those options sounded tasty as well. The meals are very inexpensive also. We paid around $15 for two meals including tip and that also included our beverages. I even ended up with leftovers since the portions are large. If you're in the area, Rabbittown Cafe is definitely worth stopping in to for a yummy meal.

We were visiting from California and this was our first stop. It's cafeteria style where you get a tray and go through the line and tell them what you want. Atmosphere: very casual and welcoming Service: Excellent! Waitress knew we were from out of town and welcomed us with a smile and even gave us some great facts about the town Food: Fresh and delicious. Everything was amazing. Their biscuits were the best! As well as their beans. Can't wait to go back!

If you are looking for a home cooked reasonably priced breakfast - Rabbittown Cafe is your place! My husband has been to this location several times, and has been wanting me to give it a try! The restaurant is located in a strip mall, and is cafeteria style. So many yummy breakfast choices (biscuits, eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, gravy, etc). Stand in the line and let the friendly staffers know what you would like (there is a menu on the wall). We arrived just before a crowd, but the line does move quickly. Food is pretty good, and is definitely reasonably priced. Oh, tell the kiddos to look around and see all the rabbits in the restaurant (not live ones of course). There is also a giant concrete rabbit in the parking lot).

We saw a sign and decided to try this dive cafe and it did not disappoint. It is an old school meat and three with great service and nothing fancy and the best part is the price. Visit this out of the way place for lunch and enjoy!! read more

First time in this morning and by the crowd, I'd say locals really love it here. There was a huge after church crowd and the line went 15 deep. Staff is really proficient here as everyone gets their food quickly and drinks are refilled regularly. I wanted the pork chops and made the mistake of saying yes when they asked if I wanted the large. Two very large chops were placed on my plate. Note to self....ask next time what large means. The food is traditional Southern fare and the choices are plentiful. Not the type of diet I normally consume but I was happy I tried it and would definitely go back. read more

The best food, the best service, the best prices. I go for catfish on Thursday, Friday or Saturday. My husband loves the hamburger steak with to die for onion rings. I always think I will try something else but that catfish is the best. The collards are the best too. I feel like I ate at Mama's when I leave. One thing I miss is seeing her stand at her front door and wave goodby. read more

Food is absolutely FANTASTIC!! If you ever wanted comfort food that hit your soul- this is it. Honestly tastes like it was taken from someone's family dinner table and served to you. Have tried this establishment twice in the last month. First was for Hamburger steaks and fries. I expected a fresh hand made dish but got an out of the frozen box HB steak with the mass produced machine markings. The second visit was for a highly recommended cheese burger. Again, processed meat and the fries were cooked in old, stale grease, nauseating results. Thanks but no thanks.... I must say the wait staff were very pleasant and friendly. Issues are in the kitchen unfortunately. read more

Stopped in for breakfast takeout last weekend. This is a classic mom-n-pop eatery that serves classic Southern food. Don't go in if you are worried about calories! I got a steak biscuit with hashbrowns. The biscuit was huge and the hashbrowns were not too greasy, something you cannot always count on from places. I would definitely go back! read more

Warning large plate means LARGE. Good old fashioned home style cooking with a cafeteria style of serving. We ate late for lunch and it was still very busy. The line moved fast. Country food is the specialty here. We had a $7 lunch that included a meat, 2 veggies, drink, and a bread. The line looked long, but the wait was short. Portions were generous. Service was much better than expected. This place has a long future if they keep this up. The food was spot on, nearly flawless execution. The only drawback, is after lunch here, we may not need to eat again for a day or two. Locals, better than Loretta's or Longstreet Cafe. Cheaper and better IMO. SO GLAD we skipped dessert. read more

Excellent southern food for excellent prices. Buffet style where they fix your plate with plenty of indoor seating (booths and tables). The chicken tenders were soft with flavorful breading. Mashed potatoes are from real potatoes, green beans have great flavor. Fresh sliced onions to eat with old fashioned cornbread. Portions are HUGE! I took half of my plate home and can't wait to eat it! They had a wide selection of dessert as well (pie, cakes, etc) but we were too stuffed to get dessert. They have all kinds of deals and senior pricing as well. It was $21 total for three adults to eat and leave with leftovers. Best overall summary of my experience is authentic tasting southern staples with huge portions for a great price. The wait staff was also super professional and kind and checked up on us several times. This place has the number and quality of ratings for a good reason! I will definitely be going back! read more

It is very reasonable and a better quality of food than you'd pay more for at a fast food place. This was obviously a community hangout for families. I just wish it wasn't an hour and a half from my house - or I'd be a regular!

Extra long tongs or working on the layout might help with the salad bar. The staff are pleasant and they wait on the tables bringing drink refills and so forth.

We ordered the appetizer special which this night it was Boudin Balls - sausage and shrimp with cheese, rice and Cajun seasoning, battered and fried. For our meals, we ordered coconut shrimp (and upcharge from Gulf Shrimp platter) and my boyfriend ordered the dinner special, Cajun seafoood pasta - spaghetti with a Cajun Alfredo sauce with octopus, calamari, shrimp, scallops, and clams. All the food was absolutely FANTASTIC and the service was phenomenal as well. We had our order taken, appetizer, and food in under 15 minutes. We were so impressed with the specials, and their portion sizes were huge. We couldn't stop talking about our meal when we got home - we will be back!

My fiancé went yesterday to this establishment and ordered us some biscuits I stayed in the car. As he walked out the building I noticed he was upset he told me a customer in line in front of him bumped him as he was leaving. Now this wasn't a average bump he bumped him so hard my fiancé has a scratch on his leg! Even the worker in the building saw the incident but she didn't report it she laughed and told him not to worry about it. My fiancé is a well respected African American man his brother is in the nfl and he has done so much for Gainesville and for a white man to bump him for nothing at all is disgusting! We will not be eating there again you guys have lost our business. He was a paying customer who doesn't deserve to be treated that way. Racist community read more

Breakfast would be the only thing I would suggest here. Go early because they are usually full or order ahead to take out. The service is kinda hit / miss. Ambiance? We'll mostly locals, very casual wear, nothing much to write home about unless you take pictures of the BIG RABBIT. read more
