    Not so good orange juice
    Kerstin T.

Given it 2 stars because I've had worse. I got the sausage biscuits and gravy & cinnamon roll w/ an orange juice. The service was fast, the guy at the register was kind and friendly. The only thing that's missing is FLAVOR. The gravy and sausage were so bland that I couldn't eat it. The biscuits were dry even after having gravy on them. I gave up after 2 bites, so I decided to try the cinnamon roll and that was another disappointment. It was extremely dry and not fresh, they only put a very small amount of icing on the top but even so it was very dry. I thought they would maybe have home made real orange juice but it was just another bottled orange juice. I hate giving places bad rating but hopefully they can make a reopening and get new chefs or new recipes that will ultimately have a lot of flavor. The place from the outside isn't very inviting and makes you think it's one of those places that you don't ever wanna see the kitchen because it'll make you not want to eat there. I feel like everyone who rated this place 4 stars might not know how to season their food and must be used to only using salt and pepper and call it a magical flavored punch.

We were in Gainesville house hunting and stopped here for breakfast. What a great place. Their biscuits are huge and so yummy!! Will definitely be back!

Chicken (spicy), egg and cheese biscuit. Greatness!

I'm in town visiting my Padres and my dad was going on and on about this place. My mom offered to cook breakfast and my he insisted on going to pick up from this place instead. --If you've had my mom's cooking you already know why I'm skeptical. My mom is a beast in the kitchen, so for my dad to suggest this place instead already has my antennae up! Lol He went to pick up so I can't speak of the ambience. I will say that their customer service is awesome. While he was in line, he called us to see what we wanted. We were taking a while to choose and the cashier got on the phone with us to help out. She was super friendly and very patient with us, far more than I would have been!! My dad ordered the sausage, egg and cheese biscuit. He absolutely loves it and says that's what he always gets. I tasted it, pretty good but not quite sure of all the rave it's received in other reviews. The biscuit itself is very good; nice and fluffy with a slight crunch on top. His piece of sausage was little small but he said that wasn't normal. I was expecting it to be the spicier sausage but it was pretty good. Mom ordered the steak biscuit and was expecting the the gravy to be on the side but it was in the biscuit. She ended up loving it! I had the chicken, egg and cheese biscuit. Excellent!!! Breaded chicken, seasoned well and spicy! My favorite and when I go back, that's what I'll be getting again!

The biscuits had no flavor, the filling was poorly prepared. The hashbrown casserole was barely passable. Don't waste your time.

SO much flavor, but if you're like me and can't handle too much during breakfast i don't recommend ordering it bc it's A LOT of food lol i couldn't finish. it's huge pieces of pork belly with eggs on top of cornbread cake and served with potato wedges!! tbh SOOO cheap for all that you get. normal eggs benedict elsewhere are about the same with so much less food. we also tried their specialty whipped coffee which was okay, i think i expected more since it's one of their most popular items but it's worth trying for sure. the restaurant is basically a house so it feels really cozy and is a super cute spot for a brunch date. i would feel overwhelmed bringing a big group of people here but they have a lot of outside seating too! overall such a great brunch place, definitely made it to one of my top favorites :)

Unfortunately, our excitement quickly faded before we were even seated. When I walked into the restaurant, I was completely ignored by a young blonde employee named Claudia who was standing behind the counter in the waiting area. She looked directly at me and continued what she was doing without so much as a greeting or an acknowledgment. A simple, "Good morning, someone will be right with you," would have gone a long way. Since no one else was in the lobby and I noticed a clipboard on the counter, I politely asked if there was a waitlist. Claudia responded with an attitude that she "wasn't the hostess." I calmly asked where the hostess was, and she simply replied that she was clearing tables. There was no offer to help, no explanation of the process, and no attempt to assist me. She continued interacting with other staff members while I stood there feeling like an inconvenience. Thankfully, another employee who appeared to be a waiter noticed me. He immediately picked up the same clipboard that had been sitting on the counter, took my name and phone number with a cheerful attitude, and let me know it would be about a 15-minute wait. His professionalism completely contrasted with the poor customer service I had just experienced. Once seated, our waiter was personable, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was also very good. I ordered the Chicken Sausage Scramble with hash browns, and it was delicious. My friend ordered the Catfish and Grits and thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. The food and our waiter helped redeem the experience, but first impressions matter. Management should ensure that every employee understands that providing basic courtesy and hospitality is everyone's responsibility, not just the hostess's. Even if greeting guests or managing the waitlist wasn't Claudia's primary role, there was no excuse for being dismissive or rude to someone walking through your front door. Alpharetta has no shortage of excellent brunch spots with both great food and outstanding customer service. Sadly, because of the way I was treated before I was even seated, I won't be returning to The Southern Porch. I also won't feel comfortable recommending it to friends or family. It's disappointing because the kitchen and our waiter did their jobs well, but one employee's attitude overshadowed what could have been an otherwise enjoyable brunch.

It's a small, popular place, and the wait can be long, especially during brunch hours. Some of my friends had to wait for almost 2hrs for the table. That said, it's a family-run style restaurant with a cozy, homey vibe, and the food is good. They serve classic Southern breakfast and brunch dishes, and most items are flavorful and comforting but compared to other brunch places the portion sizes are small. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff is friendly, though service can feel a bit slow when it's busy. Overall, it's a good spot if you're craving Southern comfort food, but go with patience--or try visiting on a weekday to avoid the long wait.
