I got a drunken noodle but it wasn't pan fried and had so much lemongrass and galangal, two ingredients that are not supposed to be present in pad kee mao. Unfortunately Racha Thai that I have been to many times in our area surprised me tonight. Everything we ordered was supposed to be medium spice. I came home with dinner all our dishes had no spice I found this container with chili pepper in it. Called to ask why is our food not spicy I ordered it medium heat and found these red peppers in my bag. We've eaten at Racha Thai many times and it's always delicious. The food is fresh and flavorful, and the people who work there are warm and friendly. My favorite dish is the pumpkin curry, always so good. Prices are reasonable, and although it's located in a shopping center with outdoor seating, we usually get our food to go and enjoy it at home. A surprise find near the resort area. In the same shopping center at KTA. Food made fresh to order. Hubby got the laksa which I thought would be a bad choice to order in HI but it was good. This place should be your last resort if you are looking for a meal in Waikoloa Village. The GOOD: the Tom Yum soup ($14) was extremely flavorful and the only thing I would order again from here. The BAD: the Panang Curry ($17) was very different with a lot of cabbage in it. Spice level options are mild, med, spicy and we ordered spicy. The result would have been a medium, 2.5 or 3 star at the very most, anywhere else. Edible but I wouldn't order it again. The UGLY: The Pad See Ew ($15) was an abomination. I have no other way to describe it. It's as if they boiled some noodles, threw a few pieces of beef and broccoli in, and called it a day. There was absolutely no sauce or flavor whatsoever. I always come here for the mango sticky. It's seasonal so they might not have it all the time. I always feel like the portion is perfect and it has the right amount of sweet for me. They got the food out to us pretty quickly and the workers were very nice, creating a nice environment. This restaurant is located in a very small food court of a mixed use complex. They may have "Thai" in their name and the dishes are those that you would see in a typical Thai restaurant, but this is not Thai food. The flavors, texture, and ingredients were totally off. The noodle dishes had a ratio of 10% noodles to 90% bean sprouts and the sauces were watery. In addition, the prices were high in relation to the portion sizes. read more

HOWEVER, I'd like to start off that if you expect to get a usual Thai food from this restaurant THIS IS NOT IT. I usually do not like posting low reviews but from a realistic view point, what I received was not Pad See Ew. It was more of a stir fried noodle with chicken and broccoli and red bell pepper with some egg. If you're a tourist craving Thai food during your vacation here and decide to give this restaurant a shot, just be aware that it might not be the usual pad see ew that you know and remember. This is a mom and pop, small restaurant in a tiny food court behind a business complex. I had the Pad Thai and it was delicious! I was pretty impressed with the avacado rolls. If I knew how satisfied I'd been with them , I would have just placed 2 orders and called it dinner. As it was, I also ordered a pad thai that was solid as well. The pad thai had a lot of vegetables in it and a sauce that flavorful but not nearly as spicy as I was hoping. I had ordered it as the step below Thai spicy so I was expecting much more in that department. Our server did bring some chili flakes out when asked but it's not the same as having it cooked in. Another dish I tried was the crab fried rice. It was a huge serving with decent flavor. Again not as spicy as I was hoping for how we ordered it. I'm guessing these guys are used to having people say they want it spicy only to complain about it when they deliver on the heat. I'm a huge fan of non GMOs organic food and this place proudly serves their food that way. Fast, fresh, delicious Thai food with no frills or pretense. We stayed on the big island for vacation and wanted to explore non-resort dining options. As huge Thai food fans we gave racha a try and it was wonderful. It is a pick up only place but there is ample seating in the courtyard and in an enclosed "porch" area shared with two other pick up restaurants. Highly recommend the pumpkin curry! Drive to Waimea for Racha Thai 2 for better flavors!!! I was disappointed the Waikoloa location had no flavor in comparison to the Waimea location. I order veggie stir fry with chicken at both locations and there was a big difference!! I wish them both the best but my tastebuds love the fresh garlic and ginger explosions, the cashews and lots of pumpkin. The Pad See Ew had just plain noodles stir fried with other stuff. There is no brown to the noodles, no oyster sauce used, it was tasteless. The Pumpkin curry was so thin and not good. They aren't just skimping on ingredients but completely omitting some of the ingredients used in these Thai dishes. The chicken satay was kind of OK.
