Helena Raju Photography is one of the the best decisions I made for our very special occasion! *********** When I decided that I wanted to hire a professional photographer to capture the moment I proposed to my girlfriend [ now fiance ;) ], I knew that I wanted the absolute best. It's difficult to put a price on a once in a lifetime experience, and so I did my due diligence of researching, calling/vetting photographers as much as I could, and then researching some more. About a month out from the proposal, I came across Helena's website and bookmarked her immediately after seeing some of her work -- they were crisp, detailed, and filled with life. I e-mailed Helena on a Saturday and within 1 hour she responded that she was free on May 11th, 2019. We were set! The day of the shoot, Helena arrived early and worked with myself and the rest of the museum staff to get everything ready/position herself to 'blend in' with atmosphere. I'll note that there's a lot of moving pieces when you're trying to pull off an ultimate proposal (i.e., renting a museum, flying family members in, hiding the family members, working with the museum staff to put on a "fake museum tour" where instead of an art painting, your girlfriend is instead is led to you and asked if she wants to spend the rest of her life with you, etc.). Helena captured EVERY MOMENT of this experience in spectacular fashion. She then spent extra time with us after the proposal leading us around the museum and taking more pictures in various angles and locations. I was incredibly impressed by the extra mile that she took to make sure that we took full advantage of our big day. What I loved most about working with Helena is that she is just so down-to-earth; her high level of empathy and ability to adapt to her customers' expectations and environments is what makes working with her so special. I do not recommend for multiple reasons.  First being lack of communication, I would go weeks-months without a response. I saw this mentioned in some reviews, however those reviews also noted that they received good pictures at the end and chalked it up to her being a busy photographer.  My package included a boudoir or engagement session, I chose the boudoir session as we live in Florida and I planned to do the boudoir session while in NJ for my bridal shower. I coordinated my hair trial, make up, nails, bought new lingerie and accessories for the shoot. I arrived at her home/studio, texted to let her know I arrived, with no response, I called and when she answered she let me know the session was supposed to be cancelled due to flooding in her studio. At this point we had a conversation and she assured me communication would be better and I would be reimbursed from the boudoir costs. I made the decision to continue with her as my photographer since this happened in June and wedding would be in august. Come wedding day, she arrived solo. I paid extra for second shooter. Another person arrived shortly after, however that person was there to hold the camera. The 2nd person told my mom that she was there to "help out" and therefore she did not provide 2nd shooter POV. Due to this, everything felt rushed, we missed out on photos that I had requested because Sarah was doing all photos herself and the photos we do have are from one perspective, rather than having photos of both of our faces while reading vows we have the back of my head and his face or vice versa. Everything was rushed because Sarah could only do one group at a time, so while she was doing groomsmen pics I wasn't doing anything, and vice versa.  I have no idea what time she left the venue, which is not a big deal but we had discussed a timeline in order to get pictures in the venue and during golden hour, none of this happened, most likely due to her being the only shooter. I have no photos of me and my husband in our venue (The Mansion on Main Street) , which was absolutely gorgeous. Didn't get any photos with my grandmother which I requested. Idk what the point of me sending the shot list was. We don't even have a creative detail shot/flat lay when I laid everything out on the table to be included. Moving forward to the pictures we received, I've honestly avoided really looking at them after initially receiving and I'm just so disappointed. I'm fairly certain she sent me every single picture she snapped irregardless of it being compete trash/blurry. There were no attempts to edit past a pre-set that must've been applied to all the photos (ex:bright yellow curb markings, scaffolding, portapotties) and some of the shots look like the camera was crooked.  If you read this far, I'm assuming you are considering her as your photographer. Just remember, wedding day pictures are once in a lifetime - you cannot get those shots again.

I remember it fondly, when Yelp's own Tom Clarke and Meredith Kleiber had a joint art showing at…read moreRembrandts in Fairmount, almost a year ago. I wasnt much of an art fan, but I was a fan of those two talented Yelpers and seeing their work showcased like that, and the fact that I was actually friends with them, was magical. I had mentally noted some favorites, but didnt know if I would ever be able to buy any. At that time, art just wasnt in my budget. Little by little, I was able to put aside some money, to brighten my new home. I purchased a Tom Clarke this fall, and debated which Kleiber photo, to make mine. Also in attendance at that showing last year, was Lulu. She looked radiant as usual and it was very cool to look at the photos with her. She didnt just casually take in the art, like I would. She studied it. She saw the intricacies of the work and each shot moved her. I think this connection to all things was both a blessing and a curse for her, ultimately causing her downfall. At the time, I had made a note of the photographs, that she spent more time with. Fast forward to early 2010. Lulus birthday ws at the end of January, and since I wasnt going to be able to shower her with expensive gifts, like many of her suitors would, I decided to make it personal. With my idea, I was able to honor two of my friends, with one act. I would be able to get a simple, heartfelt gift for one friend, and support the wonderful art of another, Meredith Kleiber. Lulu is an ex-dancer and there was one shot of Meredith's that I felt embodied that principle. Just a simple little shot of a dancer, on her way to...something, in street clothes, doing a plie while waiting for a light to change. I dont know if this is one of the ones that Lulu liked at the show, but I felt it was perfect. After contacting Meredith, and getting a really reasonable price for a small print +frame, I made plans to pick it up, to get it in time for Lulu's Bday. This, was when the fun started. Ill note, that Meredith went above and beyond, to get me the print, but theres just no beating fate and Mother Nature. First, soon after ordering the photo, I had a bout with illness, which put me in the hospital and out of commission for more than a week. Then, when I finally felt good enough to venture out, Snowmeggedon hit Philly, and I was cooped up for another few weeks. Lulu's birthday had come and gone, and I apologized for the belatedness of my gift and promised I would see her and get it to her soon. She understood and was even embarassed that I had even got her anything. Around mid February, the snow had melted (somewhat) and I was feeling good and ready to get this transaction done. Sadly, as many know, and unrelated to this story, Lulu took her own life on Feb 13th. I hadnt got the picture to her yet. It was a few weeks before I was able to think about the picture that I picked out and bought for her. Im not so deluded to think that her getting the pic would have changed anything ( although I wont go on record as saying Meridiths art doesnt save lives) but I really wish she could have seen it and know that there were people who cared about her. I contacted Meredith, who had been so cool and understanding through the whole ordeal, and discussed what I wanted to do about the pic. Even though she had already shelled out her own money for the print and frame, she would have been willing to either cancel the order or even give it to me for free. She offered this not only because she is a good person, but because she is a friend. I wasnt having it though. I decided I still wanted the print, and that I wanted to pay. This goes back to my initial dream, of both owning a piece of her work and supporting her art. One of the things I thought originally was that I was happy to get something for Lulu but was disappointed that I wouldnt have my own Kleiber. I would have had to buy my own eventually anyway. So this past week, I finally got my "Street Ballet". It may be a little girly for me , but I love it. If my daughter ever gets around to cleaning her room, I may give it to her. For now, it hangs below Tom C's "Smiling Buddah" so that I have a wall devoted directly to my talented Yelp friends. I dont know if there is a moral to all of this, besides one where you should go to the website http://kleibography.com/ and get a print of your own. One thing Ive learned , is not to procrastinate and make excuses and when I really want to do something or need to do something, to get up and do it no matter what. There should be no obstacle in my way that I shouldnt just be able to plie right past.

I cannot say enough good things about Carly or her work. She recently shot my wedding and my…read moreengagement shoot. She is super responsive via email, which I really appreciate, and is ALWAYS on time. Carly is really bubbly and puts you instantly at ease. My husband is super shy and hates photos and she made him feel comfortable and he looks so happy in every photo - I expected him to look annoyed after about the first five minutes. She really listens to what is and is not important to you about your photos - I made it super clear I wanted photos to go quickly and didn't want to spend a lot of time on them. I asked for one specific photo, and she not only got everything I asked for, she paid close attention to make sure she was adhering to what I DIDN'T want too. Our photos went by super quickly, without drama, and everyone was happy. She also noticed that when my flowers arrived the morning of the wedding incorrectly and I was scowling at them, she quickly hid them in a closet so I stopped getting upset. The BIGGEST HOLY GOD thing about Carly is how QUICK she is to turn around your photos. I had my engagement photos within a week, and a preview of "the" photo I wanted from my wedding the next day. I had a selection of photos (a few dozen) about a week after the wedding and ALL of them a few days after that. It may have even been less time than that, but I was on my honeymoon and not entirely sure when I got them because my service was so crappy I couldn't download them and was really bummed about it. My photos were even better than I ever imagined. They are GORGEOUS. Carly really captured what makes us "us". She's a delight to work with and absolutely fantastic at what she does. PLUS her prices are SUPER reasonable. I will use her for literally everything I ever can...she's AMAZING.
