They surely didn't short us on the Lobster, and the bread was toasted to perfection. This restaurant only accepts cash and personal checks. Luckily there's a bank in the same shopping center. First time in Woodbury for Antiques. Stopped by Rachel's right at closing time. We were met by Ashley at the door. She invited us in and sincerely let us know not to feel rushed. She went through the menu with care. We had the chicken on sourdough a burger and the French dip. All with homemade coleslaw, potato salad and killer macaroni salad. Excellent home made pickles too. This was my first time at Split Rail. It's a cute little house so it can easy be missed even though it's off a main road and located in a plaza. The inside is small but very cute. It was was cold in there when we went so we kept our coats on. But there was cute knit knacks around the restaurant. The menu isn't that big but does have a variety of breakfast items such as breakfast sandwiches and omelettes, Benedict's, To sandwiches, burgers , soups and salads. They do have GF bread and take it seriously. They will wipe down the area to Make sure there's no cross contamination. Others that sat on my table orders sandwiches and they were very big , the salad looked colorful, fresh. I ordered a GF BLT and it was good. Came with coleslaw, chips and pickle but I cant get over the fact that I can count how many slices of pickles I got and chips. There was barely any. not even a handful. I don't know why but all of the dishes were like that. That's the only downfall. Maybe serve a baby pickle or some actual slices. Perhaps more chips ?!! But overall food was good, service was great . I will start by saying that 4 stars is being just a tiny bit generous. My meal was more like a 3.5. First - it's cash only so keep that in mind prior to stopping in. I went in alone - I was shopping in the area but not from town. Rachel's had pretty great reviews and I was really excited about it. Even though it was lunchtime - I decided on the Irish Benny. I looked at the menu for a while. There was nothing truly inspiring on it. I was tossing and turning trying to decide - I was a bit nervous ordering the hash because it didn't say 'homemade' on the menu. I finally asked and was sold on the Irish Benny when I found out the hash wasn't coming out of the can (not that I don't love that from time to time). It was served with a rather small (but fine for me!) serving of home fries. I did ask for them well done but many of them can out burnt. The bread that the Benny was served on was too thick. It was super tough to cut through. I believe it was grilled on the griddle and was overcharrred leaving it with an odd taste. The eggs on top may have been poached but there was barely a runny yolk so it was hard to tell. There was too little hollandaise. Overall - it was all just a bit flat for me. The do squeeze their own lemonade which was refreshing and delicious! The vibe is cute - rustic and cozy. My waiter was nice - attentive and engaging without over doing it. read more

Do not be confused, this place also goes by Rachel's Kitchen and that may be the sign you'll see. Beware this is a cash-only place, but luckily there's a bank with an ATM right in the same plaza. It is a very cozy restaurant inside, which is great for that lazy breakfast feel you may have. We had the chicken and waffles and the biscuits with sausage and gravy and they were both delicious. What a great find! I love everything about this place; the food, the people, the atmosphere, and the location are all great. I had the cinnamon swirl pancakes, and my husband had scrambled eggs with home fries, and toast. When we arrived, only one person was working here, but she was extremely efficient, friendly and attentive! Small but quaint little spot open for breakfast and lunch. Very friendly service staff. They have a huge menu of poutine options and lobster too. I was there for breakfast so didn't try but would come back for some chowder! The pancakes were delicious and better than most, I'm assuming they are homemade rather than bisquick. I arrived today for the first time at 9 AM, presumably for breakfast. The restaurant was closed and no sign on the front door to inform any customer. Further, info on the internet varies as to the opening time. Could be 8 or 9:30, but no one will ever know because the store front does not have a sign indicating the hours of operation. I hate to criticize when I know how hard the business is. But it wasn't busy to make my wife's burger under cooked and poorly seasoned. My chicken and waffle was atrocious but edible thanks to all the extra pecan syrup they give you. The waffle was under done and not at all crispy and the chicken was way over done which is easy to do when you use thin chicken breast cutlets. Fried chicken really should be on the bone to avoid over cooking and retain moisture yet make crispy. Service was indifferent to our satisfaction and I wasn't surprised that the owner Rachel ignored us and didn't ask how was everything like she should have -if sitting in the dining room. "Scratch Made with Love" Friends of mine have been going to Split Rail for years. I didn't have a chance to go there until a couple weeks ago. The place is small and comfortable. I sat next to a few regulars at the counter and enjoyed listening to our fun waitress and the guys go back and forth poking fun at each other. She was great. I had the Cordon Bleu Benny for breakfast. Fried chicken cutlet topped with ham, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce. It seemed to take a while for my breakfast to be made, but rightfully so. At the first taste it was obvious that everything is made from scratch. That fresh hot juicy fried chicken cutlet was made just for me. It wasn't sitting in the fridge or under a heat lamp. It was made with care for me. As the sign says at the counter, "Made with Time & Love". If you haven't been there in a while, go back. If you've never been, make it a point to go. Since my last review they have changed ownership. We have been their a number of occasions since. The current owner, Rachel, has a different view of food from the previous one. It is still a breakfast and lunch place. She even kept some of the items for breakfast from the previous owner. Rightfully so, because they are things that people really like. She also added some new items that shows her personality. Many of the items are fresh and locally sourced and organic. I've never really cared one way or the other if things are organic or not, as long as it tastes good. Everything is prepared fresh per order. They also have fresh prepared lemonade, which I need to try the next time I'm in. One of the popular things on the menu are the different lobster dishes. Her desserts are homemade and she has fresh baked bread that is used for some of the sandwiches. Her menu is some old reliables and new dishes she created. Another local landmark that is judged far too often by its decor than it's true assets, its food and its service. Let's talk food. It's consistently average. It's what you want in a small town diner. If the food is too good, the place becomes trendy and the charm is lost. If the food is lousy, no one goes there. Breakfasts are good. Great home fries! The hash is very good, and they often have biscuits and sausage gravy. They also have a few gluten free items, such as multigrain pancakes. For a small extra price, you can get real locally-produced maple syrup instead of pancake syrup. The lunch specials are great! Each day something different. You can tell what day of the week it is by who is sitting inside having lunch. If I'm having lunch there, it's usually Friday, and it's always the fried fish platter. The regular sandwiches and burgers are nothing special, except they're always cooked to how you ordered it, and they always come out hot. The service is always fantastic. You don't get a "Hello, my name is . . . " speech, but then again, this is a small town and you probably already know your server's name, just as she knows yours. Things seem rushed at times, meaning, the servers are scrambling around trying to get their tables served, not that you're being rushed out the door. If you happened in during a slack time, your server may have a few extra moments to catch you up with the local gossip. That's a long-time diner tradition that, unfortunately, has fallen by the wayside. Everybody who's anybody has breakfast at The Split Rail at least once a week. More business is done between 6am and 8am there than probably anywhere else the whole rest of the day. It's a small town stereotype that actually exists. Avoid it at your own peril! read more

The Split Rail is best described as a hole-in-the-wall that should be experienced by anyone in the area. When we first moved here I decided to try out a local spot and I'm glad I did. The cross section of customers there was a great representation of the local populace. The place is small and cozy but we've never waited more that 15 minutes to get in. The servers have always been friendly and the prices are very affordable. The food here is great. I've mostly been here for morning breakfast which I'll say if very good. The food is good and I still stop in regularly for breakfast. I did stop in once for lunch and it was ok but I see this is a breakfast spot with a local small town feel. I'm not a local, but my boyfriend's family is and they love this place. As an outsider I feel like I have a less biased view. The staff is nice, even overly friendly, but I guess that happens when you go here with regulars. The food was terrible. I had one egg over easy with hash browns and an English muffin: it all tasted like salt and was doused in butter. I could barely finish it. My boyfriend had a breakfast sandwich, which was certainly better than my meal, but still very buttery and salty. Literally signed up for yelp so that I can review this place. That is how good it is. I cannot overstate how much I loved this restaurant. Ambiance is nice and quaint and the service is lovely and you immediately feel like a friend the moment you walk in. But beyond that it's the food that truly blew me away. Menu is so varied with breakfast all day and everything is cooked to order and so incredibly delicious. My friend and I were so impressed and already planning our next visit as we were still eating.
