Tucked away in the Heritage Hotel, The Tavern was a great place to grab a bite and a beer. There were plenty of tables, with a decent sized bar, a pool table and plenty of TVs. The food was very good, priced right, and proper portions. We shared the mild buffalo wings, extra crispy. The sauce was good and wings cooked well. The bleu cheese dip did not seem to be homemade but it did the job. My wife had a French onion soup which was very good, and the tots-chos. The tots were crispy and smothered in what we believe was a homemade cheese sauce, olives, jalapeños, pickled red onions, and fire roasted corn. It came with salsa, which in our opinion wasn't really needed. Sour cream may have been better but they were fine as is. I had the Tex-mex wrap with fire roasted corn which came with sidewinder fries. Everything was well seasoned and we brought home plenty of leftovers. The beer list was smaller but had a good selection of local crafts and some more well known brands. Our server, Jules, was very nice, attentive, and made good recommendations. Overall, would definitely come back for a low key dinner or to watch the game. read more

This place is connected to a hotel and is a very good cozy lodge style restaurant! The waitress was very nice and provided great service. The heritage club was by far the best club I've ever ate ! The turkey was tender and just fell apart ! The sauce was amazing paired well with the turkey! 10/10 The fries that come with it are crispy and soft on the inside , with a great flavor! 10/10 Slaw was a small side as well a little too tangy 5/10!!! I went here for Southburys restaurant week. The first thing I learned is this is part of a hotel. It has no designated parking lot or entrance. You have to park around the hotel guests and employees, and there is definitely parking but some more of a hike then others. Some spots are signed as unavailable to to hotel, so avoid those. There is a small sign on the side of building, which brings you to the back of the hotel. Continue to follow signs, and it brings you to the back the The Tavern. There is a front with a hostess station, and I suspect you get there from the lobby. The interior looks to me like a honky tonk. Lots of room to dance, huge TV, everything made of wood, a bar, and a pool table. There are high tops and normal tables. The food was delicious - I had a wedge salad, lamb burger, and milk with warm cookies for dessert. Everything was fresh and perfectly prepared. As soon as I walked in, I noticed the displays highlighting local spirits, beers, and wines, a detail I always appreciate. They even offer a happy hour featuring significant discounts on local selections. My martini was served in an ice-chilled glass. The vodka was shaken briefly with ice and poured into the cooled glass, though a few ice chips remained in the drink. The olives had great flavor and texture, and while the glass was slightly wet from chilling, it was presented as expected. There's something about a hotel bar that I always enjoy. Between wedding guests checking in, locals playing pool, and travelers unwinding, the atmosphere offered excellent people-watching. Our bartender was especially friendly and made the experience even more enjoyable. For me, however, the real standout was the food. Sometimes you just need a really good burger, and this was a really good burger, beautifully charred, perfectly cooked, and served with sidewinder fries that were crispy on the outside and soft and creamy inside. Genuinely the worst food I've tasted in a long time. Unfortunately, I've actually had better hospital food. I can't even imagine where they're sourcing their ingredients. You'd be better off lighting a $20 bill on fire than spending it on a meal at this establishment. I dumped my whole tray in the trash because it was so inedible. Very disappointing. Not to mention, they got our order wrong and when I called to let them know, they said they would call me back with a solution. Never did hear back, and I don't expect to receive a call. The Tavern is inside the Heritage Hotel. We were staying there for a staycation close to home. We were thoroughly impressed with the food and amazing happy hour special that runs from 5-6;30 pm. For $35, choose any appetizer, entree and dessert, 50 percent off drinks. WOW! The serving sizes were huge and the food was cooked perfectly. I had the fried calamari appetizer, ribeye steak dinner and cheesecake dessert. My husband just got the ribeye sandwich. We shared the appetizer and dessert and could not finish our dinners. We will definitely be back. There was also live music, which we enjoyed that started right before 7 pm. read more

Tips: I would not normally choose to spend $18 on burger and fries with Leo's ($12) minutes away, but when staying at the Heritage Hotel and feeling lazy and craving quiet, the hotel restaurant (Tavern) is a viable option. However at $10 for the same on Tuesdays, including a bottle of beer... that's a deal I'd consider returning for! That said, keep in mind that the kitchen closes at 9:30 PM. The Tavern is a good destination to gather to access a few local beers on tap, and sip in a quiet, no-rush setting. Periodic events are scheduled at the Tavern, including live music with no cover charge! Experience: Fiya, the server, was super friendly and introduced me to a local beer on tap (Ice Cream Man IPA, Bloomfield, CT), offering tiny cups of the two options I had been debating. read more

Check out their brand new menu from their new chef. It's fantastic. This is the hotel bar nestled in the heart of the building. You can't see it from the outside and don't know it is there until you walk in. This is a nice place with a spacious dining area. Since parking at the hotel is free and unregulated, this is an easy place to stop in for a bit when you're passing through Southbury. The food was fantastic. Truly a delight. We waiting a bit longer than expected because of the newness of the menu. Luckily, it didn't disappoint. The fare is your standard pub food with some fun takes on old recipes. The Pub Burger was flavorful, the Guinness Battered Fish was perfect and the bacon ranch french fry appetizer was fanatics. If you're spending some nights at the Heritage Hotel, this joint is great for a bite. They have a full bar as well with some pool tables and a slew of TVs playing sports or what not. The weddings from the hotel usually end up there as the receptions end, so it can get a bit busy on the weekends during wedding season. read more

Worst service we have ever seen and food was not great. Last night of restaurant week and were given prix fixe menus with pens to circle our selections... seriously??? my husband elected to have a hamburger instead of the prix fixe.. grilled salad was cold and not grilled properly.. squash ravioli was hard on the edges..when the entrees arrived 3 out of 6 came @10 mins before 2 more arrived still waiting for the burger which showed up as our desserts were finished. The manager stated,"I have no control over the cooks". Will never go there again read more

Caveat... we went there on Christmas Day. Two couples, staying at the resort for a little adult getaway. Ryan at the bar was excellent. My boyfriend prefers stemware for his beer and Ryan said it wouldn't be a full pint, so he said "I can give you two!" (Which may have amounted to a little more than a pint?) When it came time to order, we were told the special was ham. (We'd had ham earlier, so moved on to other entrees.) I ordered salmon. Was told they were out of salmon. (That's two entrees off the menu.) I ordered steak tips. Was told they were out. I ordered filet mignon. Was told they were out. Finally, we arrived at the shrimp and scallops, with sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, garlic and angel-hair pasta. Three of us ordered this, and one ordered chicken parm. The garden salad was fresh and crisp. When the entrees came, it was a very, very generous portion of shrimp and scallops.... over fettucine alfredo. Cream sauce. No veggies, no garlic. We all agreed that it wasn't what we expected... but it was tasty. The person who ordered the chicken parm was still eating and the waitress said "can I bring your check?" No offer of coffee, no dessert. (On Christmas!) As she left the table, I said (perhaps too loudly) "I realize that it's Christmas, but that was pretty abrupt," and she turned and said "I wasn't abrupt!" We had a lovely stay at the Heritage, but I wouldn't eat at The Tavern again! read more

If you need to get a drink within a 2 mile radius from the hotel then this is about the only show in town. The food is OK but probably best to eat somewhere else, drive back to the hotel and unwind with a beer. The bar staff were all friendly (Ryan) and the waitress Elena very attentive. Lots of tables to sit at or simply sit at the bar. There are 2 big TV's across the walls with sports. They have a pretty good selection of draft beers and some localy taps also. read more

Coming here is a tradition when I'm back home in Connecticut so in I went yesterday night with a few friends. The pool tables are pretty good (and free) although they can get crowded if there's an event at the Heritage. And the place is usually overrun with townies. The service varies depending on the bartender as does the quality of the drinks. When I went a year ago the bartender was attentive and made an excellent espresso martini, but on my most recent visit the bartender ignored me and my two friends and took the drink orders of others before us even though we'd been waiting, and he'd made eye contact with us several times. Plus my espresso martini was basically chilled Baileys (so pretty gross). Shadrach's could just as easily result in an awesome night as a terrible one: go at your own risk. read more

This was our first time here in many years. Decor and service were very good. Our sever (Kaitlin) was attentive and knowledgable. My wife and I each had a medium rare burger which was done perfectly and came with steak fries and a good pickle. One concern is the fries have a coating, so adding salt is not necessary. THIS SHOULD BE NOTED ON THE MENU OR SERVERS SHOULD GIVE NOTICE. I would hope they give the option of plain fries. The specials for this Saturday might was King or Queen cut Prime Rib. Neither of us was hungry enough to give it a go, we observed a close-by table who ordered and the Rib looked very good. The only issue we encountered was my wife ordered apple crisp for dessert with no ice cream or whipped cream. It took forever to the point my wife cancelled the order, which then arrived (it's a miracle). To her credit our sever apologized and comped the dessert. I've been here twice, once to sit at the bar and once to have dinner. I highly recommend this place for after-dinner drinks, but not for dinner itself. Bar service is fast and friendly, while dinner service takes a very long time. If you're staying in the hotel and would like food from the tavern, order up room service so that you can wait in your room. I waited over an hour for an order of fries at the table. Had a BLAST at this place! Ryan, the bartender served us up "well." (See what I did there?) :) He was a refreshing personality after a full day of travel hell from Chicago. He made my hubby and I feel like we were welcomed regulars and that we belonged on the comfy bar stools that held our exhausted asses. We tried the wings as well. We chose to go to Shadrach's when we decided that everything that we usually ate in Southbury just wasn't going to cut it. We arrived feeling a little awkward because there were only a couple of table there at 6:00 PM on a Friday night, but we must have just shown up too early because it filled up with people pretty quick. Whether you're looking to sit at the bar and enjoy a drink, or sit down and enjoy a meal, this is a great place to go. The clam chowder was awesome: creamy and flavorful. The bacon cheddar ranch fries were good, but the cheese could have been melted a little more and the BBQ wings were awesome, but could have used a little less sauce. (We just ate appetizers.) Overall, everything was small and I was able to overlook it for the unique yet cozy atmosphere. The prices were reasonable and the service was great. Our waitress was very attentive and always got us whatever we needed when we asked for it. The one thing that set me off was that I was seated close enough to the bar so that when our waitress asked the bartender if he wanted to make her one of our drinks, he replied with "Not really". As a former restaurant employee, I understand workplace jokes, but as a customer it wasn't extremely appreciated that the bartender didn't even want to make my drink. Overall, I would recommend Shadrach's as a place for good food, drinks, and free pool. I would recommend trying it if you're in the area, but don't go out of your way for it. read more

My parents and I had cancelled reservations at the GW to instead try something new - The Tavern. Was this going to be our new spot?!?! When we got there, we were greeted by sweet hostesses who graciously escorted us to a table - in a beautiful, "rustic" room. The decor was lovely, the tables were spaced out appropriately, and we were all looking forward to the Mother's Day brunch. After between 10-15 minutes of waiting at our table without anybody approaching us, we began to wonder if we were doing something wrong. Perhaps we get our food ourselves and then a server would come? After all, it was a buffet- maybe that's how it worked. We decided to wait it out after seeing another table (a party of at least 8 ppl) sit and immediately be delivered water by a server. We decided it was time we ask somebody if there was a server assigned to our table. My mom and I laughed about how unusual the situation was while my stepdad spoke to a couple of servers standing across the room. He was told somebody would be right with us. At this point, we really didn't mind having had to wait since it was a holiday and we were a table of 3 who could have easily been overlooked amongst the 3 other tables around us...... No big deal. As promised, a waiter came over and stood next to our table as if he was waiting for us to say something. He didn't say hello, introduce himself, or wish us a happy Mother's Day. We asked for water w/ lemon and he nodded (WITHOUT saying anything) and started to walk away. We stopped him to tell him we were ready to order drinks and to ask how the brunch worked. He looked so miserable to be there. Not a good first impression, but we are nice people so we figured over the course of the brunch he would get to know us better and warm up. HA! Were we ever wrong about that!! He NEVER asked how anything was, NEVER refilled our water unless we asked, and at the very end of it all, never said thank you or goodbye. It was SO uncomfortable. Every woman walked out of brunch that day with a rose - except my mom. I would hate to think it was intentional, but it certainly was.
