Heard about this place and drove 35 minutes to get there and honestly it fell just a little bit short. Butter in bread basket was rock hard and cold enough to make the warm rolls cold. Salad was great, enjoyed the shaved parm in the Cesar, and the prime rib was a great cut, but was under cooked for my medium rate. The meat also needed salt. The Au Jus was served on the plate and swam into my sides. Mashed potato's were rather bland, but my mashed sweet potato's were a great addition. Also was disappointed that their on line menu and house menu prices didn't match our check. We were driving through Bethlehem around lunchtime yesterday and found the Painted Pony on Yelp with mostly positive reviews--and one bad one. We thought it would be worth checking out to see if that one reviewer was wrong. They were. We went in the early afternoon, closer to 2pm, so there was no lunch rush or crowd. We sat at the bar. We got a wine and a beer, pretty straightforward drinks, with quick service from the bartender. The only criticism I had on the service was that we didn't get menus very quickly, but after we did the bartender checked in us with just the right frequency and made sure all came out right. I ordered the Harvest Salad with chicken plus a side of fries with ranch. The salad was everything I wanted (I did change it up a little and get honey mustard dressing instead of balsamic). The fries, bruh, the fries. Don't skip the fries. Ranch is a personal preference for fry dippage. The ranch was nothing to write home about, but got the job done. No photos to show of the following, but my fiancé is a bit of a burger snob, and he got the Bistro Burger medium rare and loved it. read more

Came here for lunch after pumpkin picking with some friends. The decor is awesome. Although it was a little chilly as they just opened, I still felt warm and cozy. Very rustic feel, and everything seemed pretty new (I did not know it was recently transferred to new management). We sat in the area that would normally be a screened in eating area, but they had the plastic on the windows and the fireplace going. For drinks we got a couple of beers and iced tea. Our server recited the list of draft beers to us. To start we ordered the jalapeño popper dip and fried mozzarella. The dip was delicious. Not spicy at all, very flavorful. It comes with 4 thick and salted pretzels (should come with more like 6). The fried mozzarella were large triangles that they may in fact make in house because they were delicious. Int seem frozen I also ordered a NE Clam chowder. It was good. Spiced a little different than I'm used to but still tasty. For lunch, my wife ordered the Build your own Flatbread. Great idea by the way. She really enjoyed it and took some home for dinner. Buddy's wife ordered the chicken sandwich which on the menu says "Chicken" as the menu item. She enjoyed it, however it was oozing smashed avocado. Maybe a little much on it. My buddy ordered the steak sandwich which came with a side of AuJus. He said it was very good. I ordered the burger with everything on it. Flavor wise it was good, although the overuse of smashed avocado plagued me as well. I asked for a rare burger and it came out medium well. But, sweet tots? These are a real thing? They were 100% amazing! I have find out how to make these or where to buy them cause wow. The food took a little long to come out as well. All in all, a good visit. Our server was very nice and did a good job with our table. She also let us know there was a brunch going on for a large group in the other room which is why our food took long. They changed their menu but did not change their website so I had gone there wanting the pork belly flatbread which had a fig glaze, Gorgonzola, pork belly, and caramelized onions instead it had what I think was arugula, caramelized, onion that looked/tasted more like pickled onions and bacon. the fig glaze tasted like extremely sweet honey.. I was not impressed. It was soggy on the bottom and just overly sweet. I could only eat 2 pieces. The crème brûlée cheesecake was phenomenal. It was light and absolutely delicious!! We were married this morning, wanted to dine someplace special afterwards, so we chose the Painted Pony. Can't say enough on how awesome we were treated, Jeannie and her staff went above & beyond our expectations, they made our special day extra-special. The table we were brought to was adorned with rose petals, fresh cut flowers, candles, and real linens. We had been to the Painted Pony several times in the past, we've always had exceptional meals there. Our favorite is the Steak & Scallops, we both ordered that today. The meal comes with a soup AND a salad. The avgolemono soup was excellent, it's a Greek soup made with chicken broth, rice, eggs & lemon. The steak & scallops entrees were out-of-this-world good, how can you go wrong with huge Sea scallops wrapped in bacon over a perfectly grilled steak ? Very satisfying. Our waitress, Tonya, was outstanding. We ordered a slice of turtle cheesecake to go, it's the best cheesecake we've ever had anywhere, light & airy, very tasty. Worst meal!!! This place is not what it was years ago. I knew when I drove into the parking lot and there were only a few cars that it was not a good sign. I ordered the chicken and waffles which looked great but tasted horrible. Strange flavors that did not go together. I tried to pick it apart and eat only the chicken, but it was frozen breaded chicken with rib meat NOT a chicken breast! My daughter ordered pizza off the kids menu and it was also a frozen pizza. Bottom line is I left the restaurant hungry and I will never return. What a waste of money!! The only reason why I have two stars is the staff was great and friendly. This was our first time visiting since the Nee ownership has taken over. We have/had frequently gone here before the change of ownership and we LOVED the place!! In my past we could always count on the excellent Efficient help service from friendly waitstaff. Attentive but never in your face. Food favorites with consistency. We were always counting on some to take home to enjoy the next days and we always got a heaping delicious dessert to enjoy at home. Yesterday being Mother's Day my mom and I were very excited to try the new incarnation and see if somehow they could improve on their other winning performance. We were a very easy manageable party of 2 sat when they were not busy around 3-3:30. Initially the service was attentive enough but that quickly changed. The men'swas limited to a select few items which is usual considering it is the busiest restaurant day of the year. One of my moms favorite foods is veal. When done right and actually of the tender medallion cuts that are expected she would have been very happy. This veal is not the nice thin tender medallion cuts expected but was however a must thicker piece that was very chewy!! Not only that but the meat was to be breaded and sautéed then covered in a nice franced sauce of butter and white wine that is normally cooked and reduced to thicken up its consistency to both not "soupy!! The meal arrived and it was very unappetizing in apprearance. The grey thick slab of meat had the breading all falling off. It was Swimming in in the soupy sauce with angel hair. It was grey in color. Nothing appetizing about it at all. When we brought our displeasure to the attention of our waitress she wasn't apologetic about it at all. She simply said that she would show it to the owner. No replacement meal was ever offered? Usually I would think that the waitress would offer to bring a different dish but it wasn't offered and we were really not happy so leaving seemed like the better option. As my meal I ordered a Risotto with shrimp and scallops. It appeared at the table with a puddle of liquid on top? Again I have never seen a dish of risotto have liquid floating on top? The rice was still a little undercooked. It did have a nice flavor and to their credit the shrimp and scallops were perfectly cooked. As my Mom wasn't eating a meal I chose to take the majority of my food home. When our check came the one entree was not charged for rightly so. I chose to still generously tip our waitress although I didn't really feel she deserved it. The whole situation could have and should have been handled better. I have done a lot of waitressing in my life and my feeling is that the waitress was not apologetic at all... she never offered a different meal.,. At the least often times a free dessert would be offered? It was a really disappointing Mother's Day for my Mom. We also chose to stop off at the store and purchase dessert instead of prolonging our stay at the restaurant. We used to love this place and we went there often. I'm sad to say that we won't be going back. Our gem of a restaurant is sadly gone. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

On a whim, my friends and I took a drive to the Bethlehem Flea market yesterday and worked up an appetite shopping for furniture and vintage kitsch. The shop owner recommended The Painted Pony, noting "it's the only thing around here open after 5 on a Sunday." Good enough. We strolled in and placed some drink orders (Spanish wine flight for $5?!) while perusing the menu, then ordered a heaping plate of fried calamari. I've never seen a CT restaurant serve it this way (usually only Rhode Island) but it came tossed with crumbled gorgonzola, pepperocinis and a balsamic glaze. Love! I also ordered an eggplant parmesan grinder which was delicious on a grilled roll with sauteed peppers and perfectly fried eggplant. For dessert, my friend had the Snickers pie and I opted for a turtle cheesecake which was fabulous and obviously homemade. Service was prompt and prices were great. Comfortable, relaxing, enclosed (no bugs), tables are nicely spaced so you're not on top of anyone. First things first.. Raspberry Mojito. Sounded awesome, Tasted horrible. Probably the worst Mojito I have ever had. It was ridiculously strong, not in a good way. It was painful to consume. We decided on our own version of "Surf & Turf" as we were starved and couldn't decide.. Beef Nachos, Calamari and chicken wings. The beef nachos were "meh", the wings were decent, but the calamari was great. There was quite a bit on the menu and because of the pation and the calameri, we would consider returning and trying other items. We stopped here for the first time after going to the flea market. The bartender was very nice and the service was great. We ordered the calamari appetizer which we loved with the Gorgonzola and peppers and balsamic glaze. For lunch we split the eggplant grinder. It was absolutely huge and I couldn't even finish my own half. The grinder was perfectly toasted and the eggplant was pleasantly crispy (I hate soggy eggplant). The fries were extra and very traditional, ask for the Cajun mayo - good for dipping. The boyfriend was very happy, we sat at the bar and NASCAR was on with Guinness on tap. Extra treat to get a chilled glass! If I owned this restaurant, I would totally redo the decoration to old barn feel and cowgirl /boy attitude. The place is huge and can hold many types of venues. I go here with my parents and my grandparents about once or twice a year. One and a while I take my own family here as well. It's been a favorite of mine and my families since I was a kid. We enjoy the breakfast buffet the most. It is very reasonably priced and the food is excellent. When I'm ordering off the menu I order a burger a fries most of the time or the spaghetti and meatballs which is also an excellent choice. My cousin had here wedding here a few years back and it was an excellent venue. I'm going to be extremely honest, I don't typically write reviews as being someone from the food industry I know the struggle. But I have to say for a restaurant that was absolutely packed I am shocked at how terrible the food is. I don't know if it's because it's a bar jam packed with drinkers that don't know the difference between taste and lack of flavor or if the owners legitimately think it's okay with serve and sell food at these prices that are completely awful. I ordered 4 items. None of which were edible. The carbonara had no taste whatsoever except frozen peas and what seemed to be an unsalted butter, milk and flour roux. There was not a hint of cheese flavor, salt, pepper or anything. Even the bacon (sparse in pieces) added nothing to help elevate it. The poutine, I'm not quite sure if anyone that cooks there or makes the menu has ever had poutine, had no gravy, no fries. It was greasy deep fried dry cheese curds, with a very thick and clumpy cheese sauce covered in a very negligent amount of short ribs. The short ribs were okay but when all mixed together it was like biting into a salt block. As for the desserts, an apple blossom, any restaurant worth its salt (not the over abundance served in the appetizer or the lack there of in the entree) knows is the dough wrapped around a cored apple or a decent amount of apple filling. This was frozen Pepperidge farm (we were told by staff to warm it up at home cause apparently they couldn't be bothered) puff pastry filled with maybe a half a teaspoon of chopped apple. It also lacked any flavor except the dough and came with an ice cream that was alright. The crème brûlée cheesecake would be more fitting to be called crime brûlée considering it's cost, the size of the sliver of a slice and the texture wasn't anything like the crackly top of crème brûlée. Instead it was a floppy mess of cream cheese that seemed like it had a drizzle of caramel over it and they had hit the top with a torch to give it a burned effect. How they were busy is beyond me but given how the town is mapped out I believe it was a matter of not many big bars local to them and they'll take what they can get. I spent over $50 for mediocre at best food and will never visit this establishment again. read more

I heard about The Painted Pony from a few coworkers and looked at these good reviews on Yelp. I am truly dissatisfied with this place. I took my mother here for Mother's Day this year instead of the Cheesecake Factory like last year. What a mistake that was. I called and asked for reservations at 6pm. We drove 30 minutes to get there, go inside and the woman at the desk told me if who I was speaking to on the phone told me they had a limited menu for tonight, which I was not informed of. Most of the menu consisted of seafood which my mother and I really don't like. But I decided to still go in and give this place a chance. I give it a 1 star for the décor which was nice. We started off with some drinks. We both got shirley temples which were great. We were served some bread. It was very hard and dry. Yuck. I ended up ordering the eggplant, and my mother ordered the steak tips with mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were very cold, the steak tips were very dry and the sauce that came along with it was not that great. I asked for another refill which I waited patiently for. When I got my second Shirley temple, instead of it being the regular ginger ale or sprite, it was made with seltzer water instead. Tasted nothing like a Shirley temple! Be consistent with how you make your drinks! The bill came to $70. I was disappointed because I really should've gone to the Cheesecake Factory for that price.. never coming here again. I'll have to have a re-do Mother's Day for my mom who deserved so much better on her special day. The prices are overrated for what you get. read more
