Obsessed with this place! Picked up a vintage t-shirt that I had my eye on and now it's one of my favorite shirts.

My go-to for vintage clothing in Sac. Rachel, the owner, is knowledgeable, observant, accommodating - and chooses staff who in her absence serve the same. I've bought so many things here! Truly one of a kind treats to be found: bird earrings made of shells and rhinestones; a butterfly kimono; a great Girbaud crop top; a "Cher" style fringed wrap w/matching belt tie... you won't walk out of this store without having found yourself, or someone else, at least one must-have item. I live three hours away, so shopping in Sac isn't always easy -- but Racks makes it easy. I've bought things from them off their IG feed; I've called in after something I saw months previous and without being asked, they went into storage and pulled it for me. This vintage store had some nice pieces from clothing to shoes to handbags and small accessories. Even menswear. The associate working in the shop was friendly and helpful. The prices were high but the selection of unique vintage pieces were nicer than most vintage clothing stores you walk into. The pieces were on par for the selection you will find at Playclothes in Burbank. It is merchandised well and the shop looks good. Street parking available and a small parking lot on the side of the building. It is a destination spot. There isn't a lot of foot traffic due to the lack of businesses around it. I recommend popping it into your GPS and heading over to give them a look see. read more

For all you vintage aficionados, Racks is a Sacramento gem! I'm a seasoned thrifter so I know what I can find easily and what I can't. Racks is where I go for those elusive vintage pieces that you can't get at a Goodwill. I know there will be people in the reviews complaining about the prices, but vintage stores =\= thrift. I love my cheap thrift fix as much as the next person but I'll gladly pay a little more to have someone do the hard work of sifting through all the junk to find the treasures. This shop is small but the selection is AMAZING. Each wall is packed with treasures; 30's day dresses, 70's hostess gowns, handknit 50's mohair sweaters, delicate silk slips. Some of the most special pieces in my closet have been from Racks. Lindsay and Rachel, the owner are both sweethearts and have a great eye for style. Rachel has a bounty of beautiful vintage pieces. She rocks too! I only know her from shopping there, yet her energy feels as though you have known her since high school. Racks is THE BEST (true) vintage shop in Sac. There are other options, and yes there are are other thrift shops around that I am grateful for-- but not true vintage. Her prices are great because you are purchasing from a curated store with intention. I worked at the first vintage shop in Venice Beach and Racks is on that level of vintage. We are lucky to have her in Sacramento, the land of the department stores. One last thing to add to the folks in the reviews who are unforgiving of business hours and closures--be more gentle and aware with our local small businesses. Understand that a small business does not have the large staff or financial ability to cover when instances or emergencies arise. I have to add even more praise to my prior review. In particular for Lindsay. After she helped me with my original purchase, she was willing to look at the shirts and ties I already had and hoped would "look 1940s" enough with the suit. She gave me great insights into both, we concluded I was fine with a shirt I had, but I really needed a tie to get the right look. Lindsay looked up a web site with detailed info about tie styles and sample images from the 1940s to confirm her hunch, looked through the ties in stock, and came up with three options that were right in line with the range of styles referenced on the "tie history site." I immediately loved one and bought it. Once again, Lindsay's customer service went above and beyond any other experience I can recall from recent memory. She has great taste, knows clothing periods and is willing to go above and beyond to look up extra information, and the store has so many great clothes even though it appears so small on first glance. I love Racks Vintage Boutique and highly recommend it. (A note if you are wondering about the 1 and 2 star reviews for this business on Yelp. In almost all cases, these are not about the clothing or service at Racks, they are posted by people who found the store closed during hours the sign said they should be open. That's definitely a disappointment if you've made time to travel to a store, but in my personal view doesn't warrant giving a business a 1-2 star rating. I think a 1-2 star rating is what the shopping experience - service, products, treatment, etc - has failed. My two cents.) read more

Tried to shop here today. Front door locked, open sign in the window, and posted hours show it open. Tried knocking no response. Could hear employees inside but FYI its almost 1pm and your door is locked. Will upgrade review if I make it back in the future and can actually get inside. Seems odd because all your clothing is out on the street. I can only suspect owner not on site as no owner in their right mind would lock potential customers from the store. 3-stars for now. The store hours seem to be very flexible despite what's posted! So if you are traveling from a distance to shop here, you'd better check if the store will be open. On the positive side. Oh how I love Racks! They keep it real with some awesome vintage items. The owner Rachel truly has an eye for finding some amazing clothes, shoes and jewelry. She is super nice and very helpful. The store is very original, located directly behind the bar Round Corner. The outside of the building is red with beautiful art work. Inside the store is packed with cool paintings and rad vintage apparel. I have found so many wonderful things here and Rachel always seems to find shoes in bigger sizes. (For me, it hard to find shoes at thrift stores. I wear a size 11, so it definitely gets tricky.) I've bought some great cow boy boots, sandals and wedges for an awesome price. Rachel does sales pretty often too. Sometimes its a $5 dollar bin or sidewalk sale, other times its buy one, get one free. Keep your eyes peeled so you don't miss these sweet deals! If you follow her on instagram, she posts items that are for sale. You can comment to claim the item and she will hold it for you to buy. Also, if you are looking for a certain size or item give Rachel your number and she will find it for you. I'm glad I saw the Racks booth at the Sacramento Antique Faire, because otherwise I would've never known that it existed! The storefront is small and a bit off the beaten path, something you may easily drive by without noticing. I'm glad we made it a stop on our thrift shop day. The owner lady is super nice and seemed to be friends with everyone in the shop (or maybe she was having a private party that we accidentally intruded into, haha!) There is some amazing clothing and accessories to be found, and she appears to have more tucked away in the back if you're looking for something in particular. The prices are definitely more "consignment" than "thrift", but the prices were overall fair considering the authentically vintage pieces. The only downside is how small the shop is; if there are multiple people inside you start feeling cramped. The next time I need pieces for a vintage outfit I'm building- and not vintage-style costume pieces- Racks will be my next stop! read more

This is by far THE best vintage store in Sacramento. I've gone to thrift stores, consignment stores, and other boutiques, but I've found that they are all stale, tired, trendy, and overpriced considering the poor condition of their items. Walking in to the cozy store front you're greeted by the delightful owner/operator Rachel. Her style is impeccable. There was nearly nothing that I wouldn't have worn. Rachel really has a great eye. I don't recall seeing anything that looked damaged, in fact, all of the clothes were very well taken care of and CLEAN. What impressed me the most was the pricing. The items here were in VERY GOOD SHAPE--and the clothes don't cost an arm and a leg!! I felt like I was walking into my own stylist's closet of clothing that she thought I'd enjoy. If the art on the wall is any reflection of Rachel, then I'd say she's one dope chick. She even carries some stuff from Lurk Hard and Official. Really great vintage finds here! Everything in the store is totally in style and in good condition. The prices are higher than what you would find in a thrift store, but you won't waste any time sifting through outrageous articles of clothing to find quality pieces. The store is small and very organized. There are both women's and men's clothing, lots of flannel shirts for the guys and cute dresses for the girls. Racks is the only true vintage clothing shop in Sacramento -- when I say true, I am talking about a store that specializes in only vintage clothing, similar to the ones you find in LA's Melrose St, SF's Haight & Mission, & Downtown Las Vegas, where vintage clothing is a big deal.. What's best about Racks is that it's very affordable for vintage! One time, I bought about 4 pairs of new clothing items from the 60s-70s era for less than $30. The price ranges from $5 (they have a great $5 rack outside) to probably $80 and clothing dates from the 40s and up! It's never crowded and seems pretty unknown about compared to the other so-called vintage shops in Sac. The downside is that most of the time Racks has the same unsold clothing -- either their new stuff is very little or they sell out new items very quickly. Most of the time I go there, it's a "miss" but the cheap prices keep me going. I don't go very often since I live outside Sac but I still recognize items I saw the last time I went. The store is very tiny so you can easily look through everything in less than 30 minutes. Also, it's dark in there so you may have a hard time seeing flaws. read more

Racks is great! Rachel has a great eye for cool, unique, vintage pieces. I went in last week and scored an adorable 70's mod sweater. Super flattering and I got lots of compliments on it. The items can get pricey. I got lucky, my sweater was only 19 bucks. There was a cute sweater dress I tried on. I would have bought the dress but I didn't think it was worth 40 bucks. The store is cute and small, I like that because I don't spend too much time looking and digging through clothes like massive thrift stores, I guess I don't have the patience for it. Finding parking was easy. There's only 1 fitting room and I wish it was more private. The store is small so the loose drape made me feel a little exposed. Cool t-shirts and good variety of coats. Overall, I like this place and I would recommend stopping by and checking it out. :) read more

I am a big supporter of small businesses as well as all things vintage and i've got to say Rachel has the best vintage boutique i've been to in years in all of California. She keeps her prices fair and has so many rare and highly coveted pieces which is seldom a combination you see in vintage stores. As someone who sells vintage online I know how much she could be charging for many of her items but she's not interested in ripping people off. I've also noticed she knows many of her customers by their first names which is always awesome to see because it makes you feel like more than just a customer or a dollar sign. This is the only store i buy clothing from that isn't a thrift store and it's not for no reason. Definitely recommend for all of your vintage needs! read more

I'm giving the store 3 stars for the simple fact I love the clothes. Its a small store with a lot of variety. The minus two star is for customer service. The employees (well...the one I dealt with) are nice enough. They just have a bad store policy. They made an error in over charging me for something I had a voucher for. When I brought it to their attention a day later, I was told they could only give me store credit. In my opinion, that shouldn't have been my only option. It was there error not mine. I took the credit only because I know I'll be back to shop. But its bad customer service. read more

Amazing clothes, prices, and service! This store has the highest quality vintage clothing, combined with the lowest prices, I couldn't believe it. I found a high-waisted leather pencil skirt, navy blue wool sailor pants (you know the ones with 20 buttons and the corset threading in the back?), and a fitted royal blue calf-length winter coat for UNDER $100 dollars! Needless to say, I'm heading back in a couple weeks to pick up the other half of my finds...happy shopping! TIP: Be sure to ask an employee about which clothes they would recommend for you if you can't find anything. This place has some pretty cute vintage stuff. I've scored on a super sweet embroidered jean jacket, baby doll dress, and floral pants. I just wish they had more of a men's selection because I love buying cute clothes for my boyfriend. They could also do some rotation of there merchandise which might keep me coming back more frequently.
