Beautiful setting, mediocre food. I always want to love eating here, but every time the food is just very mediocre. They have pretty typical offerings- the food is pretty much just whatever prefrozen stuff comes off the Sysco truck and lacks any extra fanfare. Today I ordered the Great Ohio Lodges Burger and it came a bit crispy and charred, lacking flavor. Fries are nothing special. The kids got chicken fingers (they were ok) and macaroni and cheese, which is just Kraft style. Wait staff is very attentive and do a great job. The seating next to the lake is nice. We got to watch buzzards and deer out the window while we waited on our food. Boats going by also adds interest. read more

Enjoyed a great meal with an amazing view. The New York strip was perfectly cooked medium rare, the pasta was delicious and the chicken was flavorful. The staff are kind. There aren't many views this good around. Places like the lodge restaurant are hard to staff given a lack of volume and a reliance on rural based staff. However, they were friendly and hospitable. Most places will deliver a Guinness without having to ask for a glass. These are details that some may complain about, but they are minor details. I would not recommend eating here. We were so afraid of getting food poisoning, thankfully we didn't though. The restaurant is located in the lodge at Deer Creek state park. It was beautiful at one time but is now very run down and tired looking. The staff are extremely slow, and look as though they hate their jobs. The food was horrible and almost inedible. The lodge itself was vert nice and the ambiance of the restaurant is good. Nice view of the lake and surrounding woodlands. The wait to be seated was too long, the prices of the meals was way too much for what you got and the selection on the lunch menu was very limited. The food quality and presentation was sub par. My catfish sandwich was mushy and the chicken on my wife's bun didn't even cover the bun. The bill for 3 of us was $50.00 ( that was without any drinks). I gave the waitress $60.00 to cover it and that was the last time I saw her. I did not tell her to keep the change. I probably would've given her the change for the tip, but that was MY decision, not hers! read more

We were there at dinner time , and the menu listed Three different sandwiches , priced between. $12.00 and $15.00 , Four Dinner entrees are available at a cost of between $23.00-$29.00 and three pasta creations run between $18.00-$23.00 Beverages are $2.75 each . Five Appetizers range between $9.00 and $11.00 Soups are $5.00-$6.00 per bowl Four Salads are available at $5.00 - $13.00 The meals that our party of four ordered were all Tasty enough , but lacked the panache that one might expect considering the price range . And again , I must reiterate , that table service by the wait staff is catch as catch can to non-existent The Luncheon menu features only sandwiches .....in fact , to be precise ,a total of eight sandwiches , but the menu pricing remains about the same as the dinner prices . No combo platters are offered . There are ten items listed on the breakfast menu Priced at between $7.00-$10.00 There is an uninspired children's menu which offers the usual Pizza , Mac n cheese and burgers With about the same preparation as one might find in a school lunchbox . I'm not sure what the headcount might be for daily meals , as I have seen the place nearly full , and other times having only two or three couples gnosching . I would have to guess that the primary customer base comes from the "captive audience" attending meetings In the lodges conference center . Would I go back to this restaurant again ? Probably not ! It's not a bad place , just ordinary ! ..... but with a bit of menu creativity , clean windows , and a responsible wait staff , Rafters at Deer Creek has the potential to become a great restaurant that locals will want to frequent ! The filet mignon was fabulous. 4 star rating is because the service is a bit slow. Even tonight they are slow and it is not close to closing time and there appears to be at least 4 servers and I see only 6 tables occupied. If you do not mind slow service the food is worth the wait. read more

Good view of the lake but the experience as a whole was terrible. The wait staff was very young and to be honest, incompetent. My biggest issue wasn't with the food which was bad it was with the bartender. It took an eternity to get our drinks from the bar and then we received drinks that we didn't order but were surely charge for. I'd avoid making this a destination for your family as it was a huge disappointment for us. read more

There is bad service and then there is the service at Rafter's which is about three steps below that. Waitress struggled to take the order. Waited at least 45 min and one of the meals never came out. Waitress called out the wrong order on the food she did bring out. There were only about 3 tables occupied in the dining room and they call complained about the service. read more

My husband and I came here for our 10th anniversary and the dinner Friday night was amazing. The food was good but the highlight of the evening was are server. Sarah is wonderful and the establishment is lucky to have her. She talked to us like she was a friend taking care of us and was very professional and pleasant. Even when had an issue with part of the order she went above and beyond to make out experience memorable. Anything can happen in this industry but when you have a strong passionate person taking care of you anything can be overlooked because of the quality that person brings to the experience. I can not thank Sarah enough and hope we showed her how much she was appreciated for her hard work. read more

This resturaunt is worth its prices. Looking at the menu I was flabbergasted at the price but when the food got here it was delicious. I reccomend the pretzels which are crisp putside and soft inside. I gave it four stars because service was slow but I understand since the woman was working alone. An elderly woman came in with a trake(dont know if spelled right) and the waitress was extra nice and patient with her. I RECOMMEND THIS RESTURAUNT!! read more

I really want to like this restaurant. It's the only restaurant near the lodge, so they have a captive clientele. We went twice while we were there. Breakfast buffet was ok.... It's the dinner for our group of twenty that was not so good. Even though we had a reservation for 20, the kitchen staff could not coordinate the order delivery. They could not get several of the orders correct, and most of the hamburgers were overcooked even when requested medium. Some of the dinners came out 15 to 20 minutes after the first ones. So, because there isn't much choice, I would eat there, but, I sure hope they get it together in the kitchen. BTW... Reservation was 530... Over 2 hours later, we were finished. read more

I went here while staying at the Deer Creek Lodge for a family reunion. The service was very lukewarm - our waitress was okay but didn't seem like she really wanted to be there. The prices were very steep - many of the entrees were $20-$25 which seemed extremely high for a restaurant in a state park lodge. The burger I had was okay but not worth the price. read more

They have a good menu with a lot of variety. I had a salad that was good and my husband had a great pork chop. We also had omelettes for breakfast. I enjoyed the food and we had good service, even during a snow storm. I wish they had slightly lower prices or even fresher ingredients - the avocado on my salad probably came from a freezer. read more

This place is terribly overpriced for what you get. I ordered the pasta primavera and while the flavor was delicious, the amount of food you get does not equate to a $17 meal. My fiancé ordered the all you eat beer battered fish meal and it took 30 minutes for them to bring out more. If you have time to blow, this is your place, but plan on paying a hefty bill even though you're leaving hungry. read more
