First time eating there. I will mention the good and the bad. The good was certainly the very pleasant design and layout of the building itself. The staff and service was very friendly, courteous and efficient. I will comment only on the menu items that we ordered for our meal. We ordered the $19 Calamari as an appetizer. While it was pricey for Calamari we felt for the Butcherblock's review reputation it should be worth the price along with maybe a generous serving. Sadly, it was some of the worse Calamari that we had ever encountered in any restaurant. It was deep fried, which is ok, but it was very thinly sliced and mostly consisted of breading! Along with what seemed like just a $19 serving of breading, the Calamari was apparently over cooked and the toughest chew, I think, we had ever encountered. It was obviously an appetizer that they did not know how to properly prepare. The amount itself, for the price, was also not very generous. As it turned out, that was probably ok, since we did not finish the serving. We did mention our disappointment to the server and an offer was made to prepare it again. However we unfortunately are the type of diners that never ask food to be done over again. which, of course, we need to do. Bottom line, don't ever waste you money on this appetizer!! For the entree's, my wife ordered the $54 Rib Eye. I opted for the $36 Parmesan Crusted Salmon dish. The Salmon was served over a bed of asparagus and covered with creamy garlic sauce. The presentation of the serving was very eye catching itself. The Salmon was baked to medium and was perfectly prepared. It was full of flavor and if you enjoy Salmon and would recommend this dish. Very satisfying serving and something I would order again. The Rib Eye entree was a little disappointing for a few reasons. First off, the owner of this restaurant is advertised has being raised on and an owner of a Beef Cattle enterprise so you expect steak is going to be the premier servings. We were a little surprised at how thin the 14oz rib eye was cut. It would seem it might be difficult to properly grill the steak to the level requested. In spite of the, we assume 14oz, steak being somewhat thin cut, it was tender as expected and the flavor was very good. The serving of onion rings on top of the Rib Eye, unfortunately, fell in the same category as the Calamari! The onions themselves, if they were there, were so thinly sliced and heavy with breading, that it seemed as though all you were tasting was crispy breading. Also bear in mind, along with the price of this steak, you will also have to pay for anything additional. You will pay $7 if want a baked potato with that steak. That is a little disappointing that nothing else is included for price of the steak. For really good 20oz bone in Rib Eye steak we have been to the Pine Club in Dayton. Along with the $50 something price, all the extras are included for that. You get great dinner roles, baked potato, salad and great stewed tomato's! We enjoyed our time at the restaurant with just a few disappointments. We may try lunch next time also. However for expensive steak, we will opt for the Pine Club. read more

This is the worst place I've ever been. The food was terrible. My burger was soggy and wet. The fries were not even really good and the waiter the waiter they were so rude and messed up my order three times and it's just a simple cheeseburger with nothing on it. Got the pleasure to come here with my brothers and step father. I stuck with the NY strip steak which was cooked to absolute perfection. Exactly how I asked for it! My brother wanted to try the Alligator bites. Very underwhelming in flavor and the breading really wasn't bonded to the meat so it would just fall off. We sat at the bar and were entertained by Lacey and Morgan, top notch service and funny too. The food was sublime, each bit was a discovery of flavors and textures. The deviled eggs! The smoked gouda scalloped potatoes are thin slices potato cooked Al dente, so much texture, in a wonderful smoked Gouda sauce . Fried Brussels sprouts blackened with a maple glaze, it's candy. So good, but we might go for light glaze next time. The lobster bisque is more tomato based, so again a soup with made us discuss the flavors with each bit. Smoke chicken Cobb salad is huge, enough for 2 as your main entree. I believe the avocado was dipped in lemon and a little firm for me. I little ripper would have been perfect for me even if the texture is butter soft. My only confusion is the description for the smoked chicken salad says chicken, but my bill showed an added charge for chicken. I saw the add chicken, shrimp, salmon to a salad on the menu, but I didn't think I was adding chicken to the "smoked chicken Cobb salad" that has chicken in its description. Went for Mother's Day Brunch - had a reservation that was scheduled month in advance. Didn't have a table for us, and the hostess rudely told us "looks like you'll just have to wait because the downstairs is full if you can't go upstairs" (mom needs a knee replacement so she couldn't do stairs). Finally they separated a bunch of big tables to make several tables of 4 so the long line of patrons with reservations waiting could be seated. Both hostesses had snotty attitudes and didn't see to be able to problem solve. $50/per person was so not worth it. Breakfast food wasn't terrible - eggs, quiche, sausage, bacon, omelet station and potatoes were offered for breakfast; Mac n cheese, fries, chicken tenders (for kids), and then prime rib, a smoked salmon display (NOT good), a few sad bowls of lettuce with dressing to choose from, pasta dish, roasted green beans, a very good mixed fruit selection, and then various desserts / cakes and breakfast pastries / muffins made up the buffet. Wish a bigger selection was offered. Waitress rushed us so much and brought our check SO quickly after we were just finishing up our first plates (before going for seconds as one should at a buffet) and very clearly was trying to turn our table over. Brought the check and then quit clearing buffet plates from our table I believe in an attempt to make us hurry up and leave. Didn't really visit table much either after bringing the check I believe in another attempt to make us leave. Poor and rude service seem to be the continued stab wounds this place is enduring. Food was decent but not worth the price (I get the price of food is rising). The place itself is pretty nice but that's about it. Super tight walkways as well, and it's impossible to get in and check in at the hostess stand if one party is standing there. Made going to the buffet difficult. read more

The Butcher Block has food options for every budget. I personally love prime rib night but it's definitely a once in a while occasion. We normally hit the bar where they stock plenty of beer and other drinks. They have plenty options like sitting outside on the second floor or just at the bar area. We usually just stay at the bar area with friends drink and eat appetizers and a hamburgers. The bartenders doing a great job of making sure we are taken care of and have everything we need to make our visit enjoyable. read more

What a great find! It's truly "in the middle of nowhere" and took me 50 minutes driving from Circleville. Was here for a business dinner. There is ample parking and the building itself is so appealing. It has plenty of space inside and I really liked the giant hearth. Everything was extremely clean and appeared new. Service was good. Everyone ordered something different. I was craving a steak because in Florida, we just do not get good beef. My filet was to die for! Best steak I had in years! I think it was priced at $45. This was a bargain! In Florida, at a normal restaurant, steaks start at $65 and are no where near as tasty. Someone ordered the cauliflower appetizers for the table and they were so yummy! We made a last minute decision to eat out for Thanksgiving and are so glad we did. There was a full Thanksgiving Buffet; turkey, ham, sides and deserts. All were fresh, warm, and delicious. first off they didn't mention that they had a set menu for Valentines day when we were making the reservation. Second the lobster tails were cold almost frozen and raw. When they replaced them they were hot but still undercooked. They also forgot the vegetables that were supposed to be with them. Basically paid $69. for a house salad. The food is perfectly fine, but our experience overall was not. Our party was seated in a private room, however there was nothing private about it. The entire dinner, a large group there for a work function shared this private room with us, standing and hovering around our table. It wasn't their fault, but the fact that management allowed a private room to be crammed with both individual parties and a special event is insane. The waitresses had no room to maneuver and our chairs were constantly knocked into by the special event patrons meandering around the room. It was claustrophobic and extremely uncomfortable. To top it all off, we were never given an apology, asked if we wanted to move, or given any semblance of consideration. The main dining room was so crowded, we couldn't even walk out of the private room without navigating around other people's tables and having to apologize for intruding on patrons' private dinners. If there had been a fire, bad things would have happened. Really unfortunate a business puts profits and pinching pennies over the comfort of their patrons, because like us, many won't be returning. read more

My husband and I went on a Sunday morning brunch. We walked in and the atmosphere was breathtakingly beautiful. The dinning area has a fireplace that was on which made it feel even more homey. The service was top notch, as soon as we walked up to the door we were greeted by a lively lady that opened the door for us where another lady was waiting to see how many and seat us. The staff is polite and pretty quick service. The decor is spacious and really well done. The prices however are extremely high for the area. Personally I'd classify it as high end home cooking, although they have some 'higher/specialties' like alligator, calamari. The Caesar salad was the meal highlight, right sized, cold and dressed nicely. The meatloaf and pork chop dinners were both overcooked and dry but good size and came out nice and hot. Went to the Butcher Block in London tonight; had reservations. When we got there we were told we could not order from the normal menu, but to had order from the "special" valentine menu. This menu had a very limited choices and very expensive. We were finally told we could order from the normal menu, but when we tried to get a dessert, (after we ate our menu ordered food) we were told we could not order dessert. The flies were terrible last night July 29th . Our waitress was wonderful, the meal was great, but the flies were everywhere. In our drinks and on our food. I took my family here for my sister's birthday because she wanted to try it because the building is so nice. That ends the positive. I ordered a NY strip medium rare, with onions and mushrooms, avocado toast, and green beans and garlic mashed potatoes to share. My daughter ordered a hamburger with chips and a salad. The salad and chips were good, and that's it. The servers were decent, but the food took a long time to come out, but there were 8 of us, so we understood. I wouldn't call the service outstanding, just adequate. My steak was cold, grizzly, rubbery, and rare. Before I tasted it I put mashed potatoes and green beans on my plate. Everything was cold. I sent the steak back and they threw it all away, brought a new steak but no sides. By the time it came back, the remaining sides were no longer edible. The new steak was still grizzly, rubbery, and rare. The onions and mushrooms were cold and tasteless., so I gave up. I took a couple bites and boxed the rest, but I'm sure I'll throw it away. I'm a big guy that loves to eat and I usually clean my plate, not this time. Nothing had any taste to it. Potatoes seemed like instant smothered in butter to what seems like an effort to cover up how bad they were. The avocado toast: the bread wasn't really toasted, it was soft, and it had a very strong lemon taste. Just bad. This was hands down the worst restaurant food I've ever had, and I spent $130 for my daughter and I. That's reaching Eddie Merlot level, and you can tell that's what they aspire to be, but whoever is cooking needs to be replaced with a chef. Bob Evans has better steak and sides for 1/4 of the price. My sister liked her steak tips, and my niece liked the sweet potato fries, bot no one liked anything else. My other niece had brussel spouts and said they were dry and undercooked. How can something cooked in bacon be dry? I'd never go back. read more

Came for my birthday dinner, my husband and I both ordered steak (strip for me ribeye for him) + 1 reg side of loaded baked potato and a premium side for hubs. Both ordered the steaks medium rare. Food came out and my potato was like warm and both our steaks were still purple. They were sent back and when they came out again, still rare. And the husband's scalloped potatoes were microwaved on the 2nd entry. We really wanted to like this place. The manager Vernon was very apologetic. Do not go to this restaurant. The food is just not good. The steak was under prepared.... Not under cooked, just a plain hunk of meat. It had seasoning, no moister, no flavor. While in London May 27th, we opted for lunch at the Butcher Block. Extensive menu, fair pricing. We had the pita chip/buffalo chicken dip appetizer, a wedge salad, and a smoked chicken Cobb salad. All were very good and portions were large. Staff (Lisa) was very good and apologetic for the wait we had after being seated. It wasn't an issue as it was a beautiful day on the south patio. We assumed like most places, staffing is tough. We are looking forward to dinner there next time we are in the area, or the Gross' building a Butcher Block out east! read more
