Ended up being a great spot and I believe we were there the night the Blue Jays made the playoffs, so there were some happy fans at the bar. Awful, I will never go back. My partner & I were walking downtown and spotted a $2 oyster sign for regazzis so decided to head up. Upon arriving, we asked our server if oyster were served with mignonette sauce... a typical side for oysters. She had no idea what we were talking about & had to ask a manager. She then let us know there was indeed some at the restaurant. Fair enough, that's not where things went wrong. We decided to order them and as quick as a server could go to the kitchen and come back, they were at our table. Meaning, they were shucked previously. My oysters weren't on a bed of ice, they were swimming in water, submerged in water... melted ice. How long were they out for? I'm not looking to get sick and would avoid this place 100%. Also, when she came to the table, they in fact did not have mignonette sauce....? They said they could "whip us some out back".. it takes 4-6 hours to make, unless they wanted to serve me plain vinegar. read more

I got the Carbonara and my wife got the Lasagna. After waiting 40 mins we got our food and my wife's lasagna was frozen in the middle. They took it to the back and didn't even make her a fresh one, just microwaved it. I shared my carbonara with her. It was ok even though it was made with cheap box pasta. If I'm paying $25-30 for an authentic Italian meal, I don't expect frozen lasagna and boxed pasta. They didn't even take it off the bill instead they offered us a "free desert" which we didn't get to choose off the menu. It was a piece of carrot cake in a takeout box. I could have gone to the grocery store and spent $20 and made a better meal. read more

The owner is an absolute fool. The service was adequate, the food was ok, however during my meal I couldn't help but overhear the owner (Leo) being the most unprofessional manager I have ever witnessed. He screamed, and I mean at the top of his lungs, at his staff for god knows what, at the expense of the restaurant's atmosphere. This happened more than once, and for what? I understand the need to discipline employees, but never to the extent that he did. Leo's actions made the experience regrettable and I definitely will not be going to his restaurant again. read more

Oh yum! We're walking past and decided to stop for dinner. While the ambiance could use some help, the food and service was excellent! My husband had the lasagna and. We got invited to dinner by some good friends of ours, and left it up to them to pick the restaurant. They live in Halifax proper, and we don't, so that just made sense. The bistro they chose is one I had never heard of, which made me a bit trepidatious considering it isn't cheap, but trusted in their judgement. Good call by me. Ragazzi is fairly new, and still trying to find a foothold in the cutthroat upper-end restaurant business, and they're working hard at it. You know how you never get a second chance to make a first impression? These folks nailed it right out of the gate. On the small side so it feels more intimate; unpretentious, comfortable atmosphere; lighting not too bright or too dim; friendly and attentive staff. We were feeling good about Ragazzi from the first few moments we were there. Now, while all those things are important, it's still a restaurant and for a small business they need to establish a solid reputation for excellent food as well. Otherwise they get no word-of-mouth advertising and no repeat business. I'm glad to say Ragazzi is in fine form. They have a fairly small menu, which is a good thing as it allows them to focus on mastering a few dishes rather than being passable at many. They have decent variety in those choices, though, from veal Parmesan to seafood risotto to spaghetti and meatballs. And like the old Schneider's commercials, you can taste the difference quality makes. Mussels in a white wine cream sauce? Delectable. That seafood risotto? To die for. The aforementioned veal Parmesan? Possibly the best I've had. Tiramisu and Limoncello to top it all off, and it was a truly enjoyable experience. 2 hours went by in moments. We live a fair distance away from Ragazzi's location in downtown Halifax, but I would definitely make the trip back in to sample more of their outstanding fare. read more

Dont waste your time here, the food is super expensive, si are the drinks, and the food is no where near worth the miney, tiny portions.

When we got there it seems nice and then they screwed up our order twice and someone had to go somewhere else instead and they didn't do anything about the inconvenience and Messups and the owner was not very nice to any of us or the server . read more

Just happened upon this restaurant by chance. We have now been there multiple times for dinner, and got to know Leonardo and his staff whom are amazing. We liked the vibe so much, that Leonardo was able to accomodate in hosting my Mother In Law's Celebration of Life there. Everyone bent over backwards for us, and we could not have been more pleased. We are happy to have found our neighbourhood spot, and it truly is good, Italian food. My husband says, "I think their Risotto is better than yours", and it is. Overall, this experience wasn't too bad. the ambiance and overall vibe of this restaurant was very good, as well the service. we were constantly asked about needing anything as well as how the food was tasting. However, the food is where it went downhill. We went as a group, the bread was alright for an appetizer, and we got the margarita pizza, "homemade gnocchi" and penne alla vodka. the pizza was had a very hard crust, and mostly just tasted like a frozen grocery store pizza, but was okay. the penne alla vodka has a great sauce, but pasta was very undercooked and cold in places. As for the gnocchi, it was definitely not homemade. it came out with again a nice rose sauce, but cold and frozen in the middle of places. we sent this meal back and they brought out what we thought was going to be another plate but was completely different pasta and different sauce that didn't taste good at all. Overall, paying for this was a little upsetting, and we won't be back. Maybe try a different restaurant if you're looking for italian food. read more

There are many options in Halifax for Italian food and this one should be at the top of your list. A very warm welcome by the owner and our server was followed with an amazing meal and a wonderful ,reasonably priced chianti. The menu is varied and moderately priced compared to other options in the downtown area and while the place is not opulent , it has a rustic warmth about it which is complemented by the genuine enthusiasm and great service from the staff. read more

Went for an afternoon snack but the restaurant didn't punch in the happy hour prices on the bill (charging about 50% more than they should have) ... and normally I would have said something but after an hour of waiting for just two appetizers we needed to just leave and didn't want to be there anymore, worth the money to escape ugh. The food was good by the way, so don't not go because of that. But a completely empty restaurant that needs an hour to bring you a single dish is something you may want to avoid, especially during typical rush time. The single martini we ordered each for the happy hour was very good, which is rare. But there was two dead flies in one and a dead fly in the other. Once we picked them out the drink was well balanced though. The timing ridiculousness wasn't due to there being no staff. There were three different people who served us over the hour. It may be a sign of poor management, as it seemed like the kitchen staff spent more time time in the dining room than the kitchen, and the management would appear to give the thumbs up to that. For some reason there is no real sound in the restaurant but they blare music outside the door from a loud speaker that isn't the same as inside to, maybe try and get you to come inside? I've dined around the world. I literally judge restaurants for local Nova Scotia magazines. And I love the industry. But this was among the most bizarre, unkempt, tardy dining I've had since I don't know when.
