Leaving this message for Ryan.. was there for my usual which is the only thing I've ever had with slight changes over the years and that would be my chicken tetrazzini with Italian wedding soup and now you can interchange with the Caesar salad.. before you had to pick out the salad or the soup so it's great that you can have one of both .. of course most of my supper had to come home with me and it heats up very nicely the next day And a delicious birthday brownie Wasn't too impressed when I came in and there was no accommodations and that's fine it was suppertime, it was the staff that was looking after my waitlist place didn't know how to be creative or accommodating so I didn't know if I was going to stay because it was so off putting to me but I came all the way over there to get my stuff from another shop and I said I'm here now and I'm glad I stayed as Ryan turned it around for me so thank you Ryan! We had this chain on the U.S. twenty years ago and it was fantastic. While in Halifax we decided to get some nostalgia and were disappointed. Nothing like it was back then. I got the signature chicken tetrazzini, which was always my favorite, and it was no better then a Lean Cuisine. Me and my friend went here for supper yesterday. The food was great, as per usual. I tried the spaghettini primavera and it was absolutely fantastic.. and our food came really quickly but the real reason I'm writing this review is to rave about the excellent service. Our server was Ryan. He was super friendly, really funny and gave us spectacular service. He was very patient and friendly, and incredibly attentive. He was quick to offer refills on our drinks, and came to check in to make sure we didn't need anything several times. We struggled with the new online menu, but even with covid, I felt really comfortable and the restaurant was very clean. Let's start with this review being for 2 visits... First visit, we ordered chicken parm, advertised to be as big as your head.... let down 1! It wasn't anywhere near as big a serving! The pasta sauce was literally a can opened and warmed to like warm then dumped on the plate... it was not an appetizing dinner! (I nearly threw up before the end of the meal) My second visit! Con weary and hungry... we decided to give this another go... oh man... maybe I was in a mood, but it was unbelievably bad! I ordered one of their stuffed pizzas, "it'll be 20 minutes" we were ok with that... once it arrived... you'd expect it to be hot and steaming right??? Wrong! So very wrong! This is a good restaurant, for me it's awesome. We ordered two species salad, one is spicy it has onion, jalapeños pepper, and there is one dressing I don't know it likes mustard. These are making the salad to be spicy. The another one is normally. I ordered the tomato soup and lasagna. Tomato soup is a little salty, maybe I added more cheese. Lasagna is so fantastic, now I think I can't keep having the lasagna coming from the Costco. The positive: The Cesar salad was amazing and our waitress definitely did not hold out on the cheese!! The bread was nice and warm as well with butter. When our waitress was near, she was tentative to our requests and was very polite. She definitely did her best to explain two items on the menu for me as I was unsure of what I wanted (the cheese tortellini or the bacon carbonara which I had chosen). The negative: My pasta wasn't hot when I received it, it was almost like it sat out for 5-10 minute before being served to me. It was fully cold when I got about 1/4 in (after about 5 minutes). The wait for our order to be taken was long, as well as waiting for our food and drinks to come. They had tones of staff out front so maybe they were lacking kitchen staff? I'm not sure. Overall, the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. I would definitely go back to eat as they have plenty of options, and great staff! read more

My kids endearingly refer to ESM as the "tomato restaurant". If you don't have kids, or are looking for a quiet dining option in Bayers Lake I'd suggest skipping ESM. The restaurant is loud, full of kids and a bit tacky but they own it; they don't try to be any more or less. This is a great family-oriented restaurant. They have a lot of kid options on their menu to satisfy even the pickiest little eater. They have budget-friendly kid specials (kids eat free on Sundays and Mondays!!) which include a drink and dessert. The servers are fantastic with families and will typically put the kids orders in first so the munchkins get their meals right away. We are always embarrassed to leave such a disaster of a table when we are done but the servers don't bat an eye. I usually find I'm so full by the time I've had salad and the fresh bread that I end up taking half of my entree home and have it for lunch the next day. I've tried pretty much all their pasta entrees. My go to is usually the sausage and hot pepper penne. Sometimes the pasta can be a bit under cooked or gluey but that's the exception. The food is a solid three stars. As much as I embrace the tackiness, I do draw the line at having a birthday here lol. read more

We were promtply seated, and handed menus within 2 minutes of walking in at 6pm on a Friday night which was a great start to our evening out. As first timers we were impressed that there was a lot to choose from on the menu. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, which came with endless salad (we choose Caesar) and fresh bread. Husband was persuaded by our waiter to try their #1 selling chicken parmigiana. Our giant bowl of communal salad arrived quickly. For a Caesar it was pretty good! Nicely dressed, evenly coated leaves that weren't dripping with an excess of dressing. Croutons were real tooth breakers though so we quickly learned to avoid those. The little loaf of warm fresh bread was quickly eaten up. Sadly we were never offered more. My spaghetti was al dente perfection but the sauce was lackluster. It wasn't bad so I wasn't going to send it back, but it just didn't impress at all. Four little meatballs, hot and reasonably tasty. Husband's chicken was very dark and dare I say almost burnt around the thinner edges. He shared my feeling that it wasn't truly bad enough to send back, but it wasn't amazing either. Perhaps we just ordered items that weren't the shining stars and should have tried a pizza, either way we left feeling underwhelmed. Since we are out of towners, likely will never be back this way. Ok this terrible but I went back again this week for my birthday dinner as this was my pick. Now the funny thing is that this time that place was packed and I mean packed. There was at least 12 people waiting for tables. Well organized and efficient with seating we were at a table with a loaf of garlic bread in about 15 mins. I have to give a hats off to this place as the service is amazing. Fast and very attentive Katie was we were both impressed. We started off with the Cesar salad and chicken wings which were delicious. Big and had one of the best sauces almost like a hot/sweet very tasty. And after 2 loafs of that tasty garlic bread we then had supper. The BF had Lasagna and I had my pasta with chicken with fresh grated cheese on top. Everything tasted great and was nicely presented. But what made our experience such a positive one was our server, Carrie. She was friendly, attentive, and very obliging. Eastside Mario's was on the menu for Friday night. We arrived around five o'clock, to beat the crowd. We were greeted by three young ladies with a smile, I asked if we could have a booth. No problem, and we were escorted to a nice area with a booth. First up, was our waitress, her name is Polly. If you get her, you will have fantastic service. She is upbeat and has an accent, it is either, Australian or English. So, you will know if you have her. No worries about your service if you do get her. Well after much deliberation over the menu, which has a lot of choices. We decided on, Lasagna, Linguine Chicken Amatriciana and Orecciette Genevose Alfredo, wow, all this came with all you can eat Garlic Bread and Salad of Choice, of course we choose, Caesar. And the winner at the table was, for me the Caesar Salad, which they add fresh ground Parmesan cheese until you say stop and fresh ground pepper. We had two huge bowls of salad and many loafs of fresh warm bread. Oh yes, I do like it when it is free refills on the drinks are brought to the table almost automatically. The main course's came, myself, I liked the Orecciette Genevose Alfredo best, that is quite a mouth full to say! It had a light sauce, lots of flavour and the pasta it came with was like little shells. This was by far the favourite at the table. Now, don't get me wrong, all was eaten from the three dishes. We had no room for dessert, but if you do go,Polly recommended the Peanut Butter Crunch Pie, I am not sure that is the right name, but you will know it when you see it on the menu. That one I will have to save for the next time. Polly also came over several times to make sure everything was ok with our meal and that we did not need anything else. To top off the evening, at the end, I believe the manager came around to the table to ask how our evening was. I have to give Eastside Mario's a strong five, for the customer service alone. It was above and beyond any that I have had over the recent months while yelping. The food and the atmosphere is fun and satisfying. I wish there was a 2.5 stars. Anyway, I tend to avoid glitzy chain places but ended up here with a group recently. My observations: Wow, they sure know how to move people in the doors and through a meal! The place was hopping and people just kept flowing. All the diners seemed happy and busy eating and having a great time. The staff did a little singsong and clapping and stuff presumably for birthday people. It was kind of fun! The food: Meh... pretty bland and tasteless and not even hot. It all looked like stuff that is dug out of a big bin somewhere in the back. The salads were good though, nice and fresh. The staff: Wow, talk about exceptional staff. Every one of them from the greeter to the kitchen delivery people were top-notch. Our main server Lauren H was just amazing. One of the best and most efficient servers I've ever encountered. It really made up for the mediocre food. Not a bad place to go for a meal with a small group. Would I go there again? Why oh why do ESM restaurants start out brand new and then they just let them go to hell until they look like this disgrace in bayers lake? Same happened over in dartmouth location at mic mac mall. Went here today, the windows are disgusting, the blinds are coated with grease dirt and ketchup splashes. It's a buildup from a year of neglect or more. I pointed it out and they just said yeah we will take care of it... they won't. The wait staff were more concerned in talking about who they are wheeling on, than they are in taking our order. Service: Good(ish). Food: Okay. The caesar salad was probably the highlight of the meal. I ordered the "double bacon carbonara" and it was quite bland. The bacon was chewy and the sauce had no flavour. You shouldn't have to add salt to a "double bacon" dish. It was loaded with green onions, which after a while, was all that I could taste. My husband had the seafood linguine and said that the seafood was definitely from frozen and it was also quite bland too. And thennn have enough for tomorrow because you still have your ENTIRE ENTREE?! Sorry, I'll stop with the questions. But really this place is a favourite for my friends. This location is no exception. Its so darn consistent, gotta love that. Me and my friends have a system going that has been working SPENDIDLY. a) Order an entree b) eat excessive bread/salad c) be so full you can't finish half of your entree d) now you got 2 meals out of that shit. Since I've come here so many times I'll tell you what I have enjoyed on the menu: - The free caesar salad beats the house one. If the tomato soup is an option thats also really good because they grate fresh parmesan on it, and that rules. - The cheese capeletti rules. Make sure to get more of that fresh grated cheese because that tastes good on everything. - The chicken diavola rules and it seems moderately healthy. We know we're going to get good service, consistently good food, huge portions (great for left-over lunches) and that delicious, sinfully caloric, Caesar salad. My husband and I went to East Side Mario's for dinner last week. It was good. Busy, as per usual, but even though our wait was a little longer than usual our waitress was courteous and kept coming back to check on us. Our glasses were never empty! We had a great meal, with enough left for lunch the next day, and enjoyed a few hours out together. The only thing I would recommend is going on the "off" times. Eastside Mario's Never a bad place to dine, never a great place to dine! Love the endless supply of bread, salad / soup! All things pasta, and some good old fashioned food, like ribs, chicken, etc. For a "Italian" restaurant, they make pretty damn good ribs. The Chicken Parm is always a delight, and well any pasta they serve will make your taste buds dance. The food is not my issue with this place, since every time I go i love what I have eaten. My beef here is the service! It tends to be shotty at best, the last few times I have gone, they just haven't brought enough bread, water, salad, soup.... it's like they are short staffed, and can't find the time to check on everyone all the time. We waited about 15 Min's to get our first run of bread and salads, which we all ate in a matter of minutes, then we weren't asked for more, or brought more! When our meals showed up 10 minutes later, we had to ask for more salad, and bread. Just not good service, I am sure they have some servers that rock, but I can't seem to get them. The bread and salads.. of the all you can eat variety beckon to you like a siren's call. Recently have grown fond of the sangria's as well. So much fresh fruit and boozey's goodness. My family ate here recently on a Sunday, and to our surprise, kids eat free on Sundays, which was a nice bonus! The hostess was friendly when she seated us, but we were seated on an outside wall with the air conditioner blowing cold air on us in the middle of winter. We asked our server about it, who chimed back that it's always like that in there and they can't turn up the air conditioner to a warmer temperature. She then said she would move us. The hostess came over about 5 minutes later and had us move to a table, which was warmer. I guess because of the move we also were given a different server, one with way less personality, if that was possible! She barely spoke and wasn't overly friendly. She did the bare minimum and nothing more. The food was good but the pasta was only luke warm and nothing to rave about. It also took forever to get our bill and the waitress forgot to bring my kids their milk. When I paid I used a gift card....it was funny really...when the machine asked if I wanted a tip, the waitress said "Since you're using a gift card you can press "None." Well, at least she was intuitive about that and knew she wasn't getting a tip from the lack of service she provided. It was kind of funny actually! And I find I stuff myself with ceasar salad and garlic bread before my entree arrives, and I always end up with a doggie bag. So I had never been to this location but after the Mic Mac one closing, and in a pickle to go somewhere for a late-night appetizer, my friend and I decided on here. I had heard about the wing special so I had thought I would order that. Upon arriving we were seating promptly. And then we waited, for a good 15 minutes or longer. We watched as server among server would walk by to clean other tables, glance at us (seeing our obvious concern that we were being ignored) and then walk away. Eventually, a server comes up to us and "apologizes" for the delay and that there was a mix up/it was her fault. Anyways, I had asked about the wing special inquiring if it was shareable, in the sense that we would both order something individual but also the wing special and if I couldn't eat it all, if he could share (since we were not overly hungry). Of course they said no way. So we decided to just split a sandwhich and fries. The pesto chicken panini was okay - the bread was way too hard/crunchy, but the taste was decent. The fries were, well average fries. The service was beyond terrible and the place seemed run down. I might be back some day when I am hungry enough to actually order more/if a friend wanted to go but I wouldn't suggest it to anyone. read more

I've eaten here dozens of times over the years, so obviously something keeps bringing me back, and my guess is hunger. You will rarely leave here still wanting more food, and I give it credit for that. I'd give it 2.5 stars if that was an option. Atmosphere was always semi-loud with families at the red-checkered dining table side in one half, and more of a sports bar atmosphere on the other. (I miss the days when they provided free peanuts and you could throw the shells on the floor. Damn people with their allergies.). Recently, this location has done a bit of a renovation where it isn't quite as divided down the middle, but there is a row of booths to distinguish the two sides. One side with TVs, one without? We always opt for the one with TVs because it usually doesn't have as many kids. Probably 50 tables in total. I remember maybe a decade ago where this place could be so busy on a weekend evening that you'd have to wait. It hasn't been like that for my visits the last several times, but then again, I am usually just going here with my partner on a weeknight where we've decided we are too lazy to cook and I have a carb craving. The menu itself has changed a bit over the years. My main dish in my first few years of going there was the Cheese Cappelletti (pasta stuffed with ricotta cheese filling, then baked with pizza mozzarella. $16.99 currently). I'd still recommend this for fussy kids maybe since it's pretty basic. Their free mini loaves of bread, fresh out of the oven, are good. Their 'unlimited' Caesar salad is good, but often has a bit too much dressing on it for my liking. I used to eat two bowls of it in my 20s, plus bread, and then still manage to scarf down a pasta entree. These days, I tend to be full before the pasta has even arrived. The Spaghettini Primavera (sautéed vegetables, sun-dried tomatoes, snow peas and basil. All tossed in our primavera sauce and topped withParmesan Romano cheese. 13.99) isn't bad. 'Build your own pasta' is good for those fussier eaters who don't see a specific entree that they may like. Recently there was a promotion on where you could get this for $10, including the bread and salad, which is an amazing deal. We tried it and although full, still said we just didn't want to come back because it's all quite bland tasting. The Pesto & Peppers Spaghettini with Goat Cheese (spaghettini, roasted red and green sweet bell peppers, baby spinach leaves and basil pesto tossed with a fresh tomato-herb sauce and then topped with creamy goat cheese.) is quite good, especially for a chain. My partner's favorite dish here may be the Hell's Kitchen Chicken (A huge 8 oz. seasoned chicken breast simmered with roasted button mushrooms, tomatoes, chili peppers and a zesty tomato broth served with vegetables and Mario's potatoes.). It always looks like two separate 6 oz chicken breasts to me, and he says is quite spicy, but you are getting your money's worth with this pick. Service is consistently okay here, never memorable, never really bad. We always say we'll never go back here, because independent restaurants are always better than chains for taste, but we still end up going back a few times a year. So I guess that says it's not terrible, but we'd never choose it if there were better selections in Bayers Lake. We say the same about all the chains out there. LOL read more

Giving 2 stars because of the wait staff. The actual food and cleanliness is another matter. Ordered dinner size spaghetti cor $15.99. What I got was spaghettitn, not spaghetti. There is a difference and the restaurant should know that. (I don't like spagettitini). And I would say near lunch size, not dinner. The sausage was thin sliced and had some hard egdes. And as for cleanness, the window ledges were very dusty as well as some of the seat backs. But the booth seats were comfortable. read more

Well, it happened again last night. Not feeling well, ordered supper last night. Was told it may take an hour for delivery. Fine. 50 minutes later, was told there would be no delivery, due to a system malfunction!!????? I said if you have the order there, why not just fill it and have it delivered. Was told the manager would not accept orders this way. Hmmmmmm??? We were told, we were welcome to pick up the order. So there is an order, but they can't deliver it? No delivery driver? They said there was but due  to the manager declining verbal orders, no order would be sent. I said, if we could have picked it up, we would have done so. Ridiculous. Another meal they ruined. East Side Mario's is where you go when you want familiar food at a reasonable price. You can be virtually guaranteed that your meal at an East Side Mario's will be the same time and again, with no unexpected surprises. East Side Mario's offers a relaxing atmosphere if you go at off-rush times. We almost always get the soup/salad and pasta meal - unlimited garlic loaf with either salad or soup, and then the entrée. I'll admit that I often fill up on caesar salad and then take half the entrée home with me for the next day. At East Side Mario's, this is encouraged! Not only are the entrées in massive portions, but the salad (or soup, if you prefer) is all-you-can-eat. My favourite is the Linguine Chicken Tettrazini or the Linguine Chicken Amatriciana - delicious. We never have any trouble deciding what to eat when we hit up East Side Mario's. This Mario's is run well, with efficient and attentive servers. The management has checked in with us on a number of occasions, proving that there is a care for detail in the manner they run the restaurant. Even kids do well at East Side Mario's, with a dedicated kids' menu containing down-sized versions of all the menu favourites. read more

East Side Mario's has been up and down over the years. I find myself here on those rare occasions when I'm in the Park and starving but don't want fast food. On this occasion we were here for lunch. It was freezing inside so we left our jackets on for the duration. Service was prompt and friendly, and our drinks, bread and soup arrived in a timely manner. The kitchen staff carefully count out only five little meatballs per bowl of Italian wedding soup, ever notice that? Never six, never four. It's mostly broth but it's tasty (and probably high-sodium) broth. The warm bread is awwwesome. Their pasta is pretty good for a chain. I'd dare say it's improved as of late. The prices have crept up to Il Mercato/La Frasca levels, so we both opted for the cheaper build-your-own pastas. Servings are a good size; I had to bring some home, but then I also had soup and two loaves of bread. :-D No room for dessert, although of course these are straight off the Sysco truck so we're not missing anything. We went to the Bayers Lake location last Friday night for dinner. We started with one of the "signature" items the Calamari Al Diavolo. It was awesome! Calamari at most places is like eating a rubber band but it was tender and came out on a sizzling skillet. Amber had Mario's Chicken Parmigiana and I had the Linguine Chicken Tettrazini. Both dishes were great, presentation was also nice. The only minor complaint I have is at one point the waitress asked if we wanted more salad to which we exclaimed YES, more free salad ! We were there for about another 25 minutes and never got our second bowl of salad. Again, not a big deal but don't ask us if we want more salad and then not bring it! One more thing is I remember the bread sticks being, well , sticks. Soft and warm yummy bread sticks dripping in butter mmmmm. This time the bread sticks were dinner rolls, hard , crunchy dinner rolls kind of like you get at Swiss Chalet but a little bigger. They just went through a renovation and things look great! Prices are reasonable, and there are nice promotions going on. All you can eat wing night every night after 8pm! (15$, comes with unlimited soup or salad). Most of the items on the menu are very delicious. For the value, speed and location, I give this place 4 stars. During evening rush though... The servers are really busy. I can see that they mean well, but things were a bit hectic. It would be great if the restaurant could come up with a plan not to lose the quality of service. read more

Extremely bland and random food. Classic fake chain restaurant. Food (0/3 stars) Eastside Mario's likes to pretend that it sells great Italian food but it's actually frozen dinners shipped out of a factory somewhere out west. Don't eat at chain restaurants people, the food is fake, cooked from frozen and has no taste. Heck if I wanted boiled pasta and canned sauce I could pay $2 and have the same meal at home. Decided to give this place another chance, what a mistake that was. The serve was good, I ordered a steak rare and pasta. The steak came well done and cold. It has been sitting for a while. I sent it back. The second steak was good but the pasta was cold.I ordered a glass of wine 9 oz and they have me a 6 oz. They did correct it. This will be the last time I will go to this place. We went there today and celebrated my friend's birthday. Our server's name was Brandon and he rocked!!! I have a food sensitivity issue and Brandon took the time to review the ingredients of the various options I was considering in order to ensure it was all going to be safe for me to eat.
