When my dentist removed a deep cavity in a back tooth, he said that I would need a root canal. We were leaving town the following afternoon, so I was hopeful I could get the root canal that same day. His office called Lowry Endodontics, and they were able to fit me in. The dentist, his assistant, and the receptionist all stayed late to complete the root canal that day. Everything you've heard about a root canal is out of date and irrelevant. Dr. Karmali and Julie took a my tooth--a front tooth (which had suddenly turned a really lovely shade of gray) and painlessly and meticulously returned it to white and made it stronger than it was before. No pain, no swelling, no extractions or permanent changes to my smile. And they did all this after hours before the holiday. There is NO ONE better in endodontics--ask anyone in dentistry and they'll tell you the same thing. And PS--every dental professional should learn how to inject lidocaine like Dr. Karmali--it is a thing of wonder to not even feel it (and I always hate that part so it's not like it doesn't bother me anyway). It's interesting to see Dr. Karmali respond to a reviewer who may have been unsatisfied with their consultation. He even offers Les R. a refund! Dr. Karmali is almost 30 minutes late for BOTH of my appointments and tells me I can leave if I'd like after expressing my dissatisfaction after the second incident. He then ignores my call concerning the cap falling off the tooth he worked on. He NEVER follows up with me. What am I missing here Dr. Karmali? I tried to resolve this with you at your office, not via review but you blew me off. How absolutely unprofessional! read more

I was referred to Dr. Karmali for a possible root canal. He told me he did not think I needed one and it turned out that indeed, I did not. He is fantastic! He could have told me I needed one and done it. He had me come back a couple time to check, but said "no" it's not a root canal problem. Is is wonderful. read more

So, I had to revisit Dr. Karmali today. It's been awhile. Great to see that the "awesome triad" (Dr. Karmali, Emily and Maggie) is still taking care of those of us who need a root canal!! I know for me personally that dental care and root canal issues completely make me nervous and therefore Dr. Karmali is the answer. Pretty darn painless. He has an excellent technique for numbing up the area. And he checks in periodically as he is doing his thing to make sure I am doing ok. He and Maggie were a hoot today. I really think they both were singing along with the radio. Now, I don't recommend that they change careers but just imagine going to the dentist's office and enjoying the process, laughing (as best you can) while getting a root canal done. They are all very professional and kind. It's pretty nice when your anxiety and stress dissipate almost immediately when you meet him, talk with him and find that you will be in good hands. Very lovely, calming office and environment. Easy to find, generally great all around. And the best part of it all, is that you know they really DO care about you, they aren't just going through the motions, getting patients in and out etc. He does not hurry. For three years, I've been putting off getting a root canal. The tooth didn't hurt, and everyone knows root canals are torture -- what's the rush? Plus it was a complicated one -- double root, double S-curve, the works. Visited the first endodontist my dentist recommended. He very carefully explained to me (for a full hour) how root canals work, and how he didn't want to attempt mine because of the double root and the curves and he'd probably get the file stuck in the tooth -- and directed me to another doctor, to have the tooth extracted. Ok. Get to that guy, who recommends NOT extracting the tooth, because it's fine - why remove a perfectly good tooth? He sent me to Dr. Rahim Karmali, of Lowry Endodontics. Two visits, one for each root. Both visits: ZERO pain (even when applying the novacaine). Both visits: Nearly fell asleep in the chair, and actually had to tell myself to not do one of those "head-jerks-awake" maneuvers, because it just didn't seem like a good idea to jerk the head when there's a guy in there with a drill pointed at the brain. Post both visits: ZERO pain. Seriously: ZERO pain. Don't go anywhere else. Dr. Karmali's demeanor, instrumentation / use of advanced technologies, patience, and obvious expertise in his field are superlative. Support staff, also superlative. About 5 years ago my dentist at the time said that I needed a root canal & recommended an endodontist. I had it done. I was told that it might ache for a while and it would be better. Well, after having multiple follow-ups with both the dentist and the endodontist over 4 years, it still hurt. So I found an new dentist, Dr. Jon Whiteley, and he recommended Dr. Rahim Karmali to me. I set up an appointment hoping for the best. Well, I got the best! Dr. Karmali provided me with several treatment options with the pros and cons of each option. Having the kind of detail necessary, I choose to have another root canal. Dr. Karmali treatment methods make sure that you feel the minimum of pain possible during treatment. With me, that meant I DID NOT experience any pain. Post treatment there was a small amount of pain that was easily controlled with Ibuprofen. Now, after having the treatment completed, I can say that I am extremely pleased with the outcome. For the first time in almost 5 years, I DO NOT have any pain. If want wan the best endodontist then you MUST choose Dr. Rahim Karmali. read more

My husband was seen at this office as he needed a root canal. The office and doctor were both very nice. The receptionist is not the smartest person we've encountered. First off, for our consultation our insurance covers both the consult fee and x-rays. They told us this was covered, but took special 3D X-rays that were not covered. Of course they won't bill the insurance so we found out that those would cost us approx $150 weeks later. Then they never submitted the treatment plan, which we discovered they day of his procedure. Luckily we cancelled and rescheduled. What we found out is that they charge at least $500 more that the customary and usual charges for our area. This means that we have to pay the extra 500 plus 80% of the usual charges. If we hadn't insisted on the treatment plan we would have had to pay this. I even asked if they adhere to the customary and usual fees (which insurance covers) and they said of course. Overall, I called a friend who is an oral surgeon and he referred us to a doctor that charges within the customary and usual fee range. Our new endodontist is great. He charges a reasonable fee and is up front with costs. If you are looking for a fancy office, this place is great, but expect the receptionists and office managers to have no real understanding of insurance. Make sure to get a treatment plan submitted to your insurance as the costs are not always covered and they are not up front about the charges. UPDATE: In response to the comment left by the doctor; my review in no way implies that your medical work up and judgement is not sound. The problem we had is that your office is not entirely up front with the fees. They are up front with the fact that you won't bill insurance. When my husband went in the front desk person implied that the XRays that would be done were the standard work up that is covered by insurance, we would just have to submit the bill ourselves. It turns out that they are not standard (although the standard ones are covered) and we didn't find out until our insurance rejected the claim. This was during a consultation visit so we didn't know or think to get it preauthorized because the implication was that these X-rays were standard and covered. read more

I cannot recommend Dr. Karmali's practice enough! Lowry Endodontics is the best in town -- and I have the experience to back up this statement having seen many others in the field. He's utterly gentle, methodical, professional and possesses the most expertise of any other endodontist. His staff is the best too -- it's clear Dr. Karmali takes pride in what he does and who he works with. This is one special practice and I'd recommend no other specialist more. I have had 3 root canals in the past, all from different endodontists. I was referred to Dr. Karmali after learning I needed yet another one. My previous experiences were not pleasant, although the end results were good. I can't say enough, though, about how easy this experience was compared to the others! Dr. Karmali and his staff are simply the best in town! I felt immediately at ease walking into his office...almost as if I was going to a spa. His staff are terrific too, very friendly and I felt at ease through the entire process, which took 2 visits after an initial consultation. Dr. Karmali's primary concern is to ease the patient's anxiety and provide a pain-free experience. Although my procedure required more than one visit, I experienced no pain throughout (with the exception of the small prick of the numbing needle) and even fell asleep during my second visit! Unheard of! He is thorough in his explanations, efficient, competent, and I felt his prices to be fair. He is amazing and I can't recommend him enough! read more
