A year of suffering and a hospitalization had not led me to a solution or to the cause of my pain and rapid loss of mobility. After a series of weekly visits, I was guided back to normalcy. Some tips during treatment keep me on course. I will return for occasional visits as needed. Thank you, Dr. Barton, for your guidance, wisdom and empathy. I am 76 and I want to avoid surgery whenever I can and take care of my body.

There's a kind of warm energy buzzing through it. When I walked in, a few staff members immediately checked in with me--offered help, asked if I needed anything, and seemed like they meant it. It's the kind of place where you don't feel like an inconvenience for just... being there. Dr. Barton himself? Warm, sharp, unhurried. He asked specific questions, zero judgment, no rush--just actual conversation. You can tell he likes his job and takes it seriously. Also? He's a lot more personable than you'd expect from someone who's double-board-certified in neurology and clinical neurophysiology. (Which sounds a bit like a Marvel super-scientist resume, but I digress). ‍‍ Bottom line: if you're looking for a doctor who listens, thinks out loud with you, respects your time, and actually gives a damn--Dr. Barton checks every box, and then some.

I also thought it would be good to have an "in" just in case. Unfortunately, my experience didn't go well. To be honest, I have a fear of going to doctors and avoid it as much as possible. I arrived early for my appointment as instructed. The staff at the front desk were courteous and professional. About 10 minutes before my scheduled time a nurse escorted me to the room and took my vitals. When she was done, she said the doctor would be in shortly. 35 minutes later - no doctor. The room was cold, my fingers were numb, and I had to get back to work so I walked over to the front desk and told them I was leaving. The next day I received a call asking me if I wanted to reschedule. I said no because I was afraid the doctor would be a no show again and I would find another doctor. Later that day I received another call asking me the same thing, and I gave the same answer. This time the scheduler told me there were two other doctors in the network at the same location and she could book me an appointment with one of them. Unfortunately, the soonest appointment isn't until the end of July but she said she would also put me on the wait list. I appreciate that she went the extra mile to help me. Hopefully, I'll have better luck on my next visit. *Private parking lot.

I've never been to a chemo facility before. You expect something sterile or clinical, but City of Hope South Pasadena is different. It's human. It's kind. The people here don't just clock in -- they show up. From the front desk to the nurses to the volunteers offering water and candy, everyone treated my friend with dignity and genuine care. We were there about four hours, and in that time, I saw more quiet heroism than most people see in a lifetime. Nurses moving with precision and grace, comforting patients like family. No chaos, no coldness -- just empathy and skill in perfect balance. They even offered me water and candy while I waited -- a small gesture, but it meant the world. It reminded me that while medicine keeps people alive, kindness makes it bearable. Life is short. Sitting here makes you realize how fragile it all is -- and how strong people can be in the face of something so heavy. To the staff here: you are heroes. To anyone reading this -- hug your loved ones, laugh more, and don't take a single day for granted. City of Hope South Pasadena isn't just a medical facility -- it's a place where hope has a heartbeat. The care is professional, the staff are angels in scrubs, and the compassion is real. If your loved one ever needs treatment, know they'll be in good hands here.

I am giving Socal Neurology Consultants a mixed review not because of the quality of the doctors…read morebut because of how unbelievably disorganized the office is. I have seen Dr. Adina Shahinian who is absolutely wonderful and ultimately the most important part is to have a highly competent doctor, which Dr S is. The problem seems to be however that the office is terribly run. They never answer the phone and they never call you back. I have called this office and the phone has rung 20 times. In other situations the phone messaging system says there are too many messages and I can't leave a message. In other situations when I've had to cancel an appointment I get a barrage of text messages saying my appointment is coming up and I have to check in for it even though I have canceled the appointment both by leaving a message and responding to the text to say I cannot make the appointment. When I actually do have an appointment and go into the office to see Dr Shahinian, the staff are very nice so I find it quite baffling that they seem incapable of navigating their phone problems. it creates a situation where patients don't feel that the office is well run and like it or not that reflects poorly on the doctors. This has been going on for the entire three years that I have been a patient there so it seems to be a weirdly intractable issue. I have no idea if they read these reviews but you would think it would matter to them to get their act together because the actual care I have received by the Doctor has been terrific.
