He told me after the surgery, you're lucky you were not completely paralyzed as when he got inside he found, not just a spine that needed repair but 3 disks that had shattered, "like eggshells" he said, all over my spinal cord. So a 3 hour surgery turned into 6 1/2 hours. I am convinced that had this been another surgeon my outcome would have been completely different! As it was, he picked each shard off delicately one at a time and gave me 3 new disks, titanium rods and I was good to go - home the day after surgery; up two days later at my desk writing! So today, 2026, I'm having some issues that are arthritis related in this same area and going back to my favorite Dr. Spine (Dr. Bae) :) to see if I can get a non-invasive remedy. He is a genius, a Michaelangelo of the spine and anyone going anywhere else is crazy! When it is your spine, you have to seek out the BEST - it's that simple. Dr. BAE IS THE BEST!

His calm confidence and genuine kindness gave me the courage to trust him completely. On June 16th, he performed five to six procedures in one surgery. During our conversation, he brought up additional tests and treatment options I wasn't previously aware of. The call was definitely productive and appreciated. My only gripe, generally speaking--not specific to his practice--is that stem cell treatments are exorbitantly priced and not covered by insurance. Expect to pay anywhere from $6,000 to $9,000 or more for various stem cell treatment options. So, not a go just yet until I figure out how to come up with the money, I will have to live with my back pain.

He prescribed me some steroids and that really helped alleviate the back pain. After the back pain started subsiding I had this leftover leg pain(sciatica). I was not able to walk for more than 10 minutes with it hurting and needing to rest. I went to a chiropractor for about a month where he would adjust me and say to work on my core strength so that I can be aligned.... Well, that did not help. I then went to get an MRI and sent the results to Dr. Regan where he was able to promptly get back to me and explain that I had a herniated disk. We decided to go first through a less invasive route and get an epidural. That unfortunately did not help. So we decided to do a Micro-discectomy. I had it done about a month ago, and well, it has been a long road, but I have finally recovered fully and I am back to normal. Dr. Regan is as professional as he is skilled. He knew exactly what was wrong and gave me options as well as clear information as to what each procedure involved and the recovery time. Ashlinn was my first point of contact, she helped me stay in contact and schedule all my appointments through this pandemic(she has a cute British accent). She also helped me with all my disability paperwork for my job and the state. I cannot thank her enough. Denna was the kindest nurse I have ever met. After my surgery, she did everything possible to make the following days as least painful as they could be. She even went out of her way on a weekend to deliver a prescription. I am so thankful to all the staff here. I had enough pain dealing with a herniated disk. So I am very glad everyone here made the entire process and recovery as pain-free as possible.. and all this through a pandemic. I am infinitely grateful for all the people here. It was causing me pain and numbness. Upon first meeting him, he walked into my room and I could tell that he was a different kind of doctor. He is not only knowledgeable but he explains things in a way that others can understand. He never talked down to me. In addition, he also put me at ease by recalling a story that reminded him of my last name. While I don't know if the story is true or not, I could tell that he was trying to make me feel more comfortable. I am now two days post op after having him perform a micro discectomy and at home and resting/walking. A memory that will ALWAYS stick out for me and I think speaks volumes into who he is as a doctor AND a person is when I was just about to be put under for surgery. I remember my hand was burning due to the anesthetic and it was making me upset. Instead of continuing to get the surgical room ready or talking to others in the room, he immediately came over and held my other hand and told me that he had me and everything was going to be ok. I went into surgery feeling confident in my surgeon. Dr. McBride continues to exceed my expectations as I have had to call his office due to minor complications after surgery. He calls me immediately after (I mean, when does the actual world class neurosurgeon and not one of his residents call you after surgery??) and makes sure I'm ok. He checked on me routinely after my operation. My numbness is gone and my pain is mostly due to the surgical site. This man is amazing - not just due to his skill as a surgeon but also due to his exceptional humanity as a person. I strongly recommend Dr. McBride and in the future, if I ever have to have surgery again, I'll be going to UCLA for it. He is excellent, as is UCLA and I will never go to another medical institution in Santa Barbara again. He is so worth the two hour drive. Thank you, Dr. McBride.

The first surgeon proposed fusing my sacra and L1 thru L5 vertebrae. Dr Lord examined me, my x-ray and MRI imagery and said a laminectomy at L1-2 and the excising of a cyst there on the outside of my spinal cord should provide quite significant relief. Further, her proposal did not preclude future alternatives, whereas fusion would be a bell that could not be unrung. Fusion surgery would have required big cuts to the front and back of my torso along with the disturbing of most of the organs in my abdominal cavity. Dr Lord proposed a surgery that required going in with two small holes near my spine. Two other surgeons, colleagues of a friend of mine, concurred with her proposal. I went home the night of the surgery. Discomfort the first week was pretty bad, although it was manageable with the stronger pain meds she prescribed. Things improved rapidly from there as I healed and began physical therapy (PT). I now am pain-free and am regaining my stamina and balance. Before surgery I was living on ibuprofen, 1800 mg per day. Now, 2 months after the surgery, I do not use pain meds and can walk 1 to 1.25 miles with little or no fatigue. I am continuing physical therapy in the reasonable hope of being able to walk any distance I want to

I am not sure where it falls in here. I have phoned at least four times in the last few years. I had an acoustic tumor that grew aggressively (not a norm for this type of tumor) into the brain stem. I wanted to get another opinion because I have had 'inconclusive' on the final reads (whether there was additional growth) and I wanted to make sure I did not get into another life-threatening situation (my first surgery was emergency with a 2% chance of survival which I thankfully survived). I would get sent to the voice mail of his nurse at which time I would get a follow up weeks later. Cut to now a few years since I phoned and got the 'inconclusive' read on my last MRI (with and without contrast) but now with a possible sign of growth so, again, I phoned Dr. Kellys' office only to be told he does not deal with Schwannomas. I was never informed of this in prior communications with the office (which is odd). I always stated what type of tumor I had and reports and scans were sent. Then his nurse said she was forwarding my information to another doctor that deals with the aforementioned type of tumor. I never heard from them. Then, maybe three months later (or more) I got a call from someone that did not say their name (just stated Pacific Neurosurgery) and called from a private number. Just to reiterate, this is now 1/3 of a year later. Buyer beware.
