I've eaten here twice, and the first time was pretty good. My husband had the beef rib which he absolutely loved, and I had a weird pork belly starter with a peanut butter "sauce". I do give this place some credit for taking some risks with their offerings, and I really want to support it - however, my latest visit with my husband and parents was disappointing. It was about 1pm on a Sunday, and we could still only order brunch. I didn't mind so much, but the rest of my party wanted actual lunch/dinner food so that was the first disappointment. Not the restaurants fault per se, but a little weird they don't offer brunch AND regular lunch menu especially on a weekend. Second issue was the food itself unfortunately. The donut holes were nothing special but overpriced. My husband and I had chicken and waffle "grilled cheese" and there was barely any cheese to be found. The chicken was rubbery. The soaked cherries were off putting and not a pleasant accompaniment to the dish. I really want to like Rail and Rye, as I am glad Navasota has such a nice looking restaurant, but sadly the food just doesn't deserve the business. Not to mention, it is pricey for small town dining, so it's even more of a let down. read more

A wonderful place to have a great dinner, wine and live music on the roof top in a quaint little town of Navasota! Payton was a great Server and took care of us from the time we sat down until we left for the roof top! We had the French double pork chop with a pear sauce and a ribeye! Chris and Jessica have made this place a gem! It's worth the drive from Walden, Montgomery. We will be back for the wine tasting on the 19th!! Our favorite!! We've been customers since it opened. It continues to wow us. Great service, food, and vibe. The cinnamon smoked tequila old fashioned was delicious and unique!!! Cool vibe but disappointing. I ordered the "Chef Special" which was a swordfish steak, lemon cream sauce, bok choy and cauliflower. The fish tasted off and a little under for my taste, it was not hot. The sauce was broken and had nothing to do with lemon. The cauliflower was like the kind that would be used for cauliflower wings, not anything I would expect on a $30 entree. The Bok Choy was almost impossible to cut with the butter knife that was provided. I took four bites. The taste of the fish ruined my appetite. I told the waitress that "I'm really not into it at all." She took the plate and asked if I wanted something else, I told her that I did not and that I would just enjoy my drink. She told me that it would be removed from my bill. Not expected, necessarily, but cool. When I got the bill they had taken 50% of my entree. The total for the meal with drinks was $100. Why would they choose to charge me for an unappetizing meal that I didn't eat when we were clearly already spending quite a bit for what is apparently mediocre food pretending to be fine dining? I will not be returning. Don't tell me that I won't be charged for a meal that I didn't eat because it was trash and then charge me without informing me that things had changed when it came time to pay the bill. They did offer me a complementary dessert which I declined. I mean they could have just compt my entree like they said they would, I wouldn't have felt insulted, and I would most likely wouldn't be writing this review. read more

We had our son and future bride's rehearsal dinner here at the end of July in the private room on the 2nd floor. The food was delicious, the wait staff was friendly and accommodating, and the ambience was perfect. We kept losing a few of our guests at the end of the dinner and found them at the rooftop bar where our party continued for several more hours. All of our friends and family were so impressed with the restaurant. The executive chef Joshua and owner Chris were so friendly and easy to work with. I'd give this place 10 stars if it were allowed!!! read more

Bad first experience. Although we had reservations for 6 pm we were told we could not sit at any of the open tables at the half filled space. We were seated at a bar height table with square seat backless stools. I have a bad leg and could not sit on this stool so stood throughout my meal. One man at the bar next to us we were seated right next to him although at that hour rest of bar was empty. Our server was pleasant. We ordered appetizer pork belly and I ordered the striped bass special, my husband ordered quail breast. All food came at the same time and although only 3 dishes did not fit on the small bar table top so plates hung over. Pork belly cubes were crisp but the peanut butter sauce was very vinegary. The fish was cooked well but the green sauce on it had no flavor whatsoever. Could not tell if supposed to be cilantro or tomatillo was bland. Spinach was sautéed well. Way too much cubed and roasted potato almost as if used for filler. Plus bland flavor. Husband also had a load of garlic mashed potatoes. Flat discs of what looked like chicken fried quail, no gravy though. He said tasted like something he would get at Dairy Bar. He did like his bok choy with vinegarette but had to use his pocketknife to cut it. We decided not to risk further disappointment with dessert. While eating a group came and stood close by while waiting for a table continuing to encroach on our little table. The normal tables with real chairs were never filled while we were dining. The building is pretty, but food and lack of accommodation for simple needs--especially since we had a reservation--makes for a disappointing birthday. read more

First time diners on Saturday evening. Made reservations over phone easily and we were seated promptly upon arrival. The hostess and waitress were very attentive and pleasant. The atmosphere and building were very nice, and the owner Chris stopped by to say hello and ask if everything was ok (and it was). The food selections (combination of appetizers, burgers, salad with seafood and sandwich) were each outstanding. We will definitely return. read more

In March of 2022, before publicly open and fully staffed, we held a two day corporate meeting on the second floor in their conference room, where we even had a projector and screen for those that had to remote in, starting each day with a full breakfast bar and a lunch that was served and presented to us. Even though they were not fully open, they graciously hosted us and we could not have asked for a better location. We had people in from all over the country, and every one of them were impressed with the atmosphere, meeting space, food, and of course, the roof top bar to help unwind after concluding our meeting each day. This family has done an impeccable job restoring this facility and we cannot wait to see them continue to grow!! read more

Great find in Navasota. Creative menu and interior , even a rooftop bar overlooking downtown. Enjoyed our server even though we felt rushed. Cloth napkins and sound absorption would improve things. I feel customers with hearing aids would not enjoy - very noisy and hard to hear people at your own table. read more

Quick review: Great waitstaff, slow to get food, coffee was super weak, food was okay but cold and the restaurant is really cool but the 2000's dance music was a bit much. Brand new restaurant so I don't hold anything again them. I will definitely be back for dinner and another brunch. I recommend people try this place while expecting some growing pains. The decorating is great and the feel is very upscale. The waitstaff was really nice and set expectations on timing for food from the beginning which is really appreciated. It seems like the menu is larger than I would have expected for a low traffic location at a brand new restaurant. They were definitely have some issues in the back of the house but food took about an hour and when it did arrive they were all cold (cold bacon is definitely not great). The location is great and with giant windows looking onto the street waiting for the food wasn't too bad. The bar is really neat with the bar shelves reaching the ceiling. I can see this as a nice place to get a drink. The bathroom was shockingly cold. It really felt like walking into a meat locker. Having it cold does minimize bacteria but it was a little much and I imagine quite expensive. Again the design was great with really cool green tiles. When it came to the check I would say that I was shocked at how cheap it was. Two breakfasts, two coffees (espresso), and doughnut holes = $30. I am not sure if there was a deal or what was going on but looking at the menu online the right prices were not used. The duck egg benedict shows $28 by itself. This might be expensive for Navasota, but I hope they don't swing in the other direction and undersell their food. Focused interesting menu at reasonable/market prices with great service through expectation setting is a recipe for success (easier said than done but still). This is a brand new place with a lot of great potential. We saw some go upstairs for what looked like an event which makes a lot of sense. This was not a great brunch but for a place that just opened and still finding their footing, I was pleased. I will be back for another brunch and dinner at some point soon. They have something special and I hope they work out the issues they are experiencing. I encourage anyone in the area to go by there and see what they have cooking because I would bet in a year it will difficult to get a reservation. read more
