AWFUL MANAGER- Braxton was full of excuses instead of taking accountability for our experience and poor service. Not only did Braxton come around with a pompous attitude he was less than professional. After we expressed our unhappiness with having to pay for our reservation and not having the best experience he said they were understaffed bc his employees were scared of catching covid. Even a simple request as asking for olive oil as a salad dressing was a issue. Their excuse was 'they couldn't find the olive oil.' It took my SIL getting up and practically going to back up of the kitchen to find olive oil. Braxton placed complete blame on the bar and having one bartender plus we saw him chewing out our waitress. We waited far too long for two bottles of wine to enjoy with our dinner. On top of that one of our mixed drinks arrived at the table before the wine. Then we had steaks w no steak knives. We asked Braxton when he came by for steak knives but they never arrived. Issue after issue. Our main waitress Skyler was very kind and apologetic. She tried her best to make up for the issues- in the end Braxton should of mitigated their short comings and mistakes from the beginning of our dinner. So disappointed. Decent food but awful service. We had a good experience in February but last night was awful. We won't go back. There was one waiter for the entire restaurant. We waited 30 minutes for our drinks, and this was only the beginning. We were there from 6:30 -9 and the last 30 minutes was trying to sort out our incorrect bills. For a party of 7, they charged us an automatic 20 percent gratuity and of course didn't tell anyone. 3 of us shared a bottle of wine and we were charged for 3 bottles of wine. We had several people talk to the manager over the evening and he was no help. I understand that there's a problem getting help these days but this was clearly a management issue. I'm sad because this has could be a fun restaurant but not until they fix the management issues. read more

We visited Rail & Rye on our way to College Station. It was well worth the brief detour to Navasota. The space is very nice and the owners did a great job of pairing historic finishes with modern functionality. We ordered from their brunch menu and all time were tasty. The mushroom chowder is phenomenal and would recommend to mushroom lovers. My son enjoyed his chicken and waffles and the donut holes were a decadent and yummy starter. read more

We went tonight for our first time and had high expectations after hearing all of the good reviews from friends and family. However, we were quite disappointed. The atmosphere was nice and warm and we loved the interior of the restaurant. The food was delicious, even though it all came out luke warm to cold. We ordered a few cocktails, which all fell short of expectations. The mojito that my wife had taste like pure seltzer water with a slight hint of lime. Our server was great and attentive to everything that we needed. I was a little taken aback over the automatically included gratuity for parties of 5 or more. I understand why restaurants do this, but as party of only 5 with 1 child, I really did not agree with this. I feel that in comparison to other restaurants in the area with comparable atmospheres and menus, that Rail & Rye was a little overpriced for what you get. I think that there may be a shortage of plates in this restaurant since they were very eager to remove plates, before you were finished. We had family in town so we took them to Rail and Rye. It's such a beautiful place and our server was very nice. We enjoyed roasted beet salad, crab cakes and mushroom soup for starters. It was all delicious (we really like the sauce that came with the crab cakes). The burger was so good, and I always love the chicken fried chicken. What a disappointment. The redfish was recommended by our server. Although seasoned properly it was over cooked and dry. My date ordered the Shrimp Diablo, described on the menu as "Argentinian Shrimp". That's a joke. The NOT Argentinian shrimp were precooked, frozen and thawed. If you've ever had fresh boiled shrimp you know what I'm referring to. Totally damp and tasteless. Our server was very polite and nice but tried to remove our plates twice before we were finished eating. Here's the real kicker. The electronic gadget given to us to pay, tip and quickly rate our meal had a thumbs up or down screen. I chose down. Almost immediately the owner was at our table asking about our meal. I told her all of the above. She nodded inquisitively and thoughtfully and offered us a free dessert which we declined. One hour after we left the restaurant I went to their website to verify the Shrimp Diablo description before I wrote this review. Unbelievably the item had disappeared from the menu. I so badly want to support downtown Navasota Rail district, but it's like they don't care if you are there or not . The service is honestly terrible. The food is inconsistent. Management seems clueless on customer service . If you want to charge the high prices . The food should be great and consistent and the service should be decent at least . The seared scallops appetizer was amazing! I should have gotten some bread to go with the amazing sauce. They were cooked perfectly. For an entree I got crab eggs benedict. My son and I came in from Bryan for brunch and enjoyed a delicious meal! We ordered the donut holes as an appetizer, I had the railroad mash and he had a grilled cheese. Everything was soo tasty! The donut holes came with an assortment of dipping sauces so each bite had a different flavor. The mash was crazy good! I'm really picky about my eggs but they were cooked to perfection! The restaurant was not that busy, but we had to ask several times for refills or drinks from the bar. It took 20 minutes after asking for iced tea refills 2 times. I would love to go back for dinner. This place was gross. Capital G. I feel like they exist by taking advantage of people not from town (or without taste buds). The food was either over cooked or just not seasoned at all. The only edible thing that hit our table was French fries and a so-so chicken wings appetizer. The meals (mains) were all bad. Meatloaf - No real seasoning. Salmon - Might as well have eaten cardboard, so overcooked. Pasta - See cardboard and no seasoning. The atmosphere is bland and the seating is super cheap and uncomfortable. Bathrooms should have been a lot cleaner for the prices they charge (they're totally just stealing peoples money imo) The staff is false friendly. They 'appreciated' our comments, then still charged us 100$ for stuff we largely didn't eat. There were 3 basically full plates left on the table (some of the sides were okay-ish enough to have some). Instead of comping any of the trash they wanted us to eat they offered us a 20$ gift card to return again. Not sure why they thought that was the way to go...NO THANK YOU! Even if we were from here, I'd not come back to this place) I feel actively nauseous after even just the little bit I ate. I'd never recommend this place even to people I didn't like. We sat at the bar and started with the crab cakes then I had the short ribs for my main course. Everything was reasonably priced and truly delicious. Stopped in for the first time today and had an incredible dinning experience. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Very clean and cozy. I had the Seafood special (trout with green beans and yams) which was not only beautifully plated but absolutely delicious. My server Skylar recommended the drink special which was a cinnamon smoked tequila old fashioned, also delicious. The manager, Braxton came by and checked on us which was really nice. The building has a very pleasant atmosphere except for the noise and gawd awful bar stools. The bartender was friendly and poured fair drinks, I ordered the seafood pasta, however the bartender said it wasn't very good, so I changed my mind. I ordered chicken and waffles and when it came out the waffle was burned, I returned it only to learn they were out of waffles, my guess they are frozen then heated. I'm very disappointed to say the least. I hope the owners get it together. read more

I've given Rail & Rye two visits, the first being based on reviews and the 2nd as a 2nd chance given the lackluster first experience. Summary of both: very slow service, off-temp food and sometimes confused servers. The space is great and it is great for Navasota's downtown renovation/makeover to have a cool new restaurant. However, the dining is not on-par with its looks. Our appetizer of scallops was lukewarm and had zero seasoning. Ceviche was good but the chips seemed to be bottom-of-the-bag and crushed into small pieces. Most of our entrees were off-temp and lacked any real taste. Very disappointing as we had high hopes for this place. I am not affiliated whatsoever with Las Americas in Brenham but it really shines in taste and presentation in comparison to Rail & Rye. In the future, we will take our guests and family there and will avoid R&R. No third stike for this out. read more

Went to brunch here last Sunday. We were exited to have an upscale restaurant available in Navasota, however, we were quite disappointed. The server did not know the menu, any question I asked she had to go to the manager. When I asked about a wine choice, she said she was 19 and had to go to the bar. The first item I asked about on the menu they were out of so I opted for a standard breakfast. When it came out it was just standard Sysco items, nothing was fresh nor was anything made in house. I was shorted the tomatoes, I asked the manager and he just said "I'm sorry about that" then walked on. He didn't even attempt to correct the problem. I'm not going back. Was surprised at the $30 charge for a reservation for 2 (refunded from the meal, but charged if you no show). Beautiful furnishings, but ladies restroom had no toilet paper in one of the stalls. I've eaten here twice, and the first time was pretty good. My husband had the beef rib which he absolutely loved, and I had a weird pork belly starter with a peanut butter "sauce". I do give this place some credit for taking some risks with their offerings, and I really want to support it - however, my latest visit with my husband and parents was disappointing. It was about 1pm on a Sunday, and we could still only order brunch. I didn't mind so much, but the rest of my party wanted actual lunch/dinner food so that was the first disappointment. Not the restaurants fault per se, but a little weird they don't offer brunch AND regular lunch menu especially on a weekend. Second issue was the food itself unfortunately. The donut holes were nothing special but overpriced. My husband and I had chicken and waffle "grilled cheese" and there was barely any cheese to be found. The chicken was rubbery. The soaked cherries were off putting and not a pleasant accompaniment to the dish. I really want to like Rail and Rye, as I am glad Navasota has such a nice looking restaurant, but sadly the food just doesn't deserve the business. Payton was a great Server and took care of us from the time we sat down until we left for the roof top! We had the French double pork chop with a pear sauce and a ribeye!
