Started out a little shaky but ended great. Bar didn't stock two of the drinks I asked for (a Mexican import beer) and a common cinnamon whiskey. However, the bar is otherwise well stocked and they had several popular area beers on tap. Food was phenomenal. A bit pricey, but definitely delicious! Red Fish with cajun butter sauce was $26. Served on a bed of 5 grains and sauteed spinach...my oh my! Market price for the sirloin was $50. Great flavor and tender. Definitely plan on coming back in spring and summer to enjoy the rooftop sunsets. We have it on good local authority that it is awesome! read more

The new menu and chef is AMAZING! Drinks were delicious. We've been in the area since Rail & Rye opened and their food has always been okay. Their old shrimp and grits were pretty good -- BUT, y'all -- This new shrimp and grits doesn't even compare. YUMMM. The appetizers and desserts were also just as amazing. We had to order a second round of queso. Our group was all around very pleased. The chef went out of his way to talk to us after our meal. He's a very nice man! He even brought out the new bread pudding for us to try. This will be our new go-to spot for sure. 12/10 experience! read more

Thought I already reviewed this place- so delicious! The decor is always super fun and just overall has a great feel to everything! Went with just the girls for lunch and enjoyed the crab cakes, the watermelon salad and the soup of the day which was tomato soup. Everything was a big hit!! This time I took the hubs and family and he got the beef sliders with fries- fries were extra good but he enjoyed his food! Smaller portion than he probably would usually eat. The soup/salad lunch special is only $10- good deal!! The kids meals are more expensive than most places but still around $7-$9. Overall we have always had great service along with delicious food !! the location is so cool and the service was great but the food was very mediocre and overprice. We don't mind spending money on food but want the quality to back it. Fish I had was dry with ok flavor and my wife got the chefs special that day... shoet ribs (tough and little flavor) with a pepper sauce and candy carrots(she loved the carrots). For the price, the food just wasn't at that level, but it was ok. I think the opportunity for a finer resturaunt is available as it is a nice building, however they need a professional chef with experience. I would put my home made short ribs up against this anyday. Short Ribs are easy, but they do take some time. They definitely rushed it, probably should invest in a pressure cooker based on our experiemce. Lower the prices, and stars would be higher. Tough short ribs are a cardinal sin to that succulent dish... it's practically the entire point beyond the beef flavor. read more

As the meandering train rolls by here at Rail & Rye in Navasota, Texas, I realize that I have yet to post my rankings of Old Fashioned's in the Bryan/College Station Area. I actually feel blessed that I should have held out to this point, as the number one spot can most assuredly be found here. A good Old Fashioned should complement the bourbon, but not overpower it. Additionally, it should add a subtle punch of spice (not to be confused with a Mike Tyson knockout), sweetness, and orange zest. This drink not only accomplished these gaudy goals, but surpassed them in practically every way. The amount of spice perfectly accented WhistlePig Rye's natural earthy yet honeyed flavors and brought forth a new appreciation for the drink. I can rightfully say that I will be making the journey to Navasota regularly to imbibe this delectable delicacy. Also, I'd like to note that this in no way detracts from the bountiful fares available at the establishment. Every dish I encountered, from the homely chicken fried chicken to the stately herb crusted rotisserie chicken, both enthralled the palate and exceeded my expectations. We came through town on our way to Giddings and decided to stop by for lunch. The restaurant is beautiful. It is very open and has a nice bar area. I ordered the Grouper special and it was delicious. My husband ordered the burger and he said it was really good. I also ordered the mushroom chowder and it was something different and tasty. It is fairly expensive so if you are looking for fast food prices this isn't the place, I'll definitely be back next time we come through town. Meh ... service was terrible. Ordered drinks and we had to ask for them 3 different times before they finally arrived. Apps were pretty good, crab cakes and scallops. Crab cakes could have used a touch of salt. Scallops were cooked well, but nothing special. Husband had pork chop, but it wasn't as described on the menu and was over cooked. Shrimp and grits were mediocre at best. We were overcharged for the drinks as well. It's a cool looking place, but ambiance can only do so much if the establishment is poorly run. I am here hanging out on the rooftop getting ready to watch the open mic night. Beautiful weather, friendly bartender, beautiful building. This is my second time here - the first time I was at the bar watching football and heard about the rooftop experience - so here I am. The food is fantastic and I am surprised that the average rating is so low - I am not sure what people expect. Yes the bar is usually slammed as is the staff and management and yes I think they could be more organized but a 3.5 average?? There food is top notch and I would challenge you to find better food in a small town than this. This reminds me of a restaurant in Bastrop on the strip but I cannot recall the name. The menu includes duck wings, poutine, crab cakes, charcuterie boards, fantastic soups (mushroom soup was not attractive but delicious) :) and delicious entrees. It is expensive but the food lives up to the price. Also it does get full and sometimes there is a wait. I rated it 5 stars because its exactly what I was expecting. FYI... We are under a National shortage of food industry workers and I recognize that this impacted my experience. Food- good! Everyone in our party liked their food, but it wasn't anything earth shattering. Overall, a negative experience. Came in and had a seat at the bar. No one other than myself and my family were at the bar. We ordered water and one meal to share within a few minutes of having a seat. My in-laws also ordered their food. 10 minutes or so went by and staff came to let us know that their meal was out of stock and they needed to pick another food item. They chose the meal they wanted (a hamburger). As we waited, the bar filled up to capacity. Approximately 45 minutes later, there was still no food delivered to our table. Numerous other individuals who ordered after us, had received their food but not us. We made our frustrations known to our bartender and our food arrived very quickly but it was cold. As our food was delivered, they informed my in-laws that theirs would be ready soon. 5 minutes later (or more), the bartender returned to say that the burgers had JUST been put on the grill. Nearly two hours of being at this restaurant just to eat, and no one even offered a discount for their failures. As we sat and waited on our food, we watched another couple ask for a refund due to their food not coming out either. Definitely not acceptable. read more

Bar drinks were inconsistent, some of us had decent drinks and some we sent back due to taste. The bartender seemed yo very overwhelmed. It took us a very long time to get our food. One of got the chicken fried chicken and we had been seeing huge portions come out for that but when we got ours it was tiny, half the size. I had salmon but it was drowned in a bright purple beet sauce. Did not compliment the fish and I scraped off. Fish was cooked well but dish was just lackluster for the price. Friend got the seafood pasta which came out about 15 minutes later than our dishes and looked like domethin my teenager would make at home. It was bland, and had 3 small shrimp on it for $36!! If they want to be known as a destination fine fining and charge those prices, they need to improve waitstaff service and food quality. read more

Overall, our dinner was disappointing. The first issue was that we were seated at one of the high tops in the bar area even though we had a reservation. Those stools are super uncomfortable and are a especially so when one is wearing a short dress. I asked to be moved and that request was granted, thankfully, before we got our entree. We started with the mushroom soup and honestly, it was terrible. It was so thick and gritty. I didn't eat mine but hubby was starving so he ate his. He kept saying it was like eating gravy. To me, it had the consistency of puréed potato soup. Mushroom soup in generally very smooth and velvety. We then had the chicken fried chicken. As you can see in the picture, it was very overcooked. We should've sent it back, but didn't want to be a pain. It was extremely tough. The flavor is there though and the sides and gravy were excellent. The chicken was just cooked way too long. We had 3 different cocktails and they were great as was the bread pudding. All staff we interacted with were super nice and personable. The space is really beautiful and inviting. I know they are just getting started so I'm sure things will get better. We will definitely be back in the future. read more

I will absolutely admit that entire roof top was being serviced by two gentlemen, Ethan & Canyon, that meant one had to be behind the bar & other would wait & service tables. These two guys did their very best to make sure all was done. Saw some customers that weren't very understanding that they were doing their best for that area, but I will give them kudos on a job well done! read more

Well first of all the food tasted great as always. Been here many times and have referred several people but first time reviewing. We had a 730 reservation arrived at 720 and were seated at 750. When we were seated the table was still wet and the table was bare; so needless to say they really were not ready for us for another 5-10 minutes. I get that reservations are not guaranteed. Having said that a complimentary drink, appetizer or desert is always a nice touch. No such gesture was made. Service was friendly and appropriate. By the time we got food at 830 the place was thinning out. My pasta was Luke warm, the garlic mashed potatoes had a cool crust on the top but were warm underneath, the same was true for the sweet potato mash. Excellent drinks but didn't get to try the food. The food smells amazing but is traditional fare. The pricing was average for a restaurant of this quality. The noise level is average. The bar has excellent to high quality alcohol. It was raining so we couldn't try the rooftop seating. We definitely would try it again and sample the food. read more
