What's not to love?! Within minutes of sitting down, staying true to its name, a horn blaring locomotive pulling a long line of rail cars passed by the restaurant. A very friendly waitress immediately greeted us in this cozy little sit down diner. Breakfast was the meal, so should be good. And it was. Egg and cheese melt on rye. All offerings were fantastic! Crowd seems very local and very happy to be there. Really liked this place!

    This was delicious!

What a treasure! Great breakfast, had a western omelet, 3 fold, perfect fold. Pancake on the side was light and fluffy. Deep fried hone fries, amazing. Staff was pleasant and happy to serve! Which is more then I can say for the bat bunnies the night before....oh wait, what?

Avocado breakfast melt, fried potatoes, and a fresh fruit cup.

This place is so cute and welcoming! The food is excellent, the employees are friendly, and I love the location! It sits right by the train tracks. We had one train go by when we were there and it was pretty cool. It's what makes this place unique. I can see why this place is such a hidden gem and it's honestly my new favorite place for breakfast. They also have lunch which I'm super excited to try.

Amazing little diner, friendly staff, excellent food, good coffee, everything we ordered was wonderful. Clean and neat. Highly recommend this sweet nostalgic diner situated right next to an active railroad track.

The breakfast was just as good as any other resturant in the area. The place is small but the waitress was friendly. I'd go back.

I understand what your job involves, but standing over customers & demanding them to order something so you can leave & get tip doesn't fly. The interior of restaurant was just ok, the bench's for booths in rear of restaurant were missing. Very gloomy atmosphere. The soup yankee bean was the best part of my whole meal. Which for the amount that was ordered should've been on point. Items ordered: Yankee bean soup, steamed carrots & fish n chips Wife got salad, buttered corn & fish n chips We also got potato skins & chicken tenders (appetizer) Wouldn't you guess it they would serve everything all together. I'm so glad that I didn't indulge myself & eat the fish, I am one of the few people allergic to Tilapia. As an ex Chef I know the basics for fish n chips is 95% of the time cod. (Nothing was stated on the menu) I ate the fries which were obviously fried together, already had the lovely feeling of throat swelling up. I let wife take care of things due to myself thinking it was just my stress from work (go outside for fresh air) Wife than calls me back into restaurant with fish in hand(and owner had not known what fish was used for this item on the menu) I was floored! How do you not know your menu from front to back. He later told us it was Tilapia & he still wanted compensation for us getting the fish. The establishment used to be on my ok list, this restaurant is now worse than Pizza Hut. No point in sharing photos it wasn't a pleasant experience. Kudos to the owner for being an out right Dick!

Two eggs, over easy, potatoes, rye toast, coffee and a side of bacon. Perfection. I love it hereread more

Mountainhome Diner has been around for years and is your typical diner with all-day breakfast available. It's clean and the staff were exactly what you want in a diner with friendliness and hospitality. I went with a breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant with some well done potatoes. My friend had the scrapple with some scrambled eggs. I also had an orange juice. The orange juice I did not care for. Definitely not fresh squeezed. But the sandwich was excellent along with the potatoes. My friend also loved his coffee and scrapple with egg. My meal came to $11 not including tip. We'd come back!

The current owners since 2017 are husband and wife restaurateurs Ali and Etab Abullattif. The enormous menu features classic staples such as omelets, pancakes, eggs benedict, french toast, waffles, breakfast sandwiches, breakfast wraps, salads, sandwiches, paninis, burgers, seafood entrees, steakhouse entrees, and various Italian specialties too numerous to mention. My family and I visited Mountainhome Diner for lunch on a recent trip to the Poconos. It was actually are last morning on our trip and we were looking for a place to grab lunch before making the drive back to Connecticut. We had driven past the diner several times on previous visits to the area, but had never visited before. We decided to give them a try. It seemed like a classic American diner that you could find just about anywhere. There's no website, no social media accounts, just good old-fashioned diner staples. The staff were friendly and accommodating and they seated us at a booth. A go-to dish that my wife and I both like to get at classic diners is a Greek salad, and Mountainhome Diner's "Big Fat Greek Salad" (chopped iceberg lettuce, crumbled feta, olives, tomato, onions, peppers, grape leaves, house Greek vinegar) sounded like it was just what we were looking for. I ordered mine with gyro while my wife ordered hers with chicken. Those salads really hit the spot! For our sons, we looked to the Kids Menu. Our older son had the "Hot Dog with French fries" while our younger son had the "Chicken Fingers with French fries". They were both very happy with their dishes. We had a nice time at Mountainhome Diner and we're happy that we finally stopped in. We recommend them to anyone visiting the area!

My immediate reaction entering was, wow what a clean place. It is clean, bright and very welcoming. Our waitress was a lovely young woman who took the time to go through the menu with us and tell us things that were popular with regulars. I chose a roast beef melt with tomato soup and my husband got a gargantuan sized turkey dinner with all the fixings --real mashed potatoes and gravy, roast turkey, which they roast in house, and stuffing with a side of carrots. To round out our meal we had coffee and two scoops of ice cream also made in house by the waitress's father. Delicious, especially the cherry vanilla. Couldn't have been more pleased with the food, ambiance and reasonable prices. We are new to the area and looking forward to another good meal!

Now, years later, my wife and I would pass by the new 81 diner and would always say we needed to try it. We'll, today was the day. We stopped in for lunch, and aside from a gentleman waiting for his to-go order, we were known as the customers. I guess not a lot of people eat at 3 in the afternoon. The atmosphere was very nice. The tables, chairs and booths all fit the diner nicely. My cheesesteak sub was very tasty. Their menu said no substitutions, but they let me withhold the lettuce, tomatoes and onions, which I'm not fond of, so I'm glad they let me do that. Along that note, my wife ordered the BLT sandwich, and gave me some of the bacon, which was really good! Our friend George ordered the pizza burger, which also looked good, and he seemed to enjoy it. Their fresh cut fries were fantastic as well. If I had anything to complain about, it would be that the music being piped in was too modern for a classic diner atmosphere and wasn't something we were expecting. Hopefully that's something they will eventually change. Maybe next time we will stay long enough to try some of their desserts, which looked pretty good too. We will definitely be back soon.
