It's such a cute diner with a lot of bar seating. I could see it being tough to get a table on the weekend since it is small. We didn't have a problem getting a table on a Friday at noon. Menu is smaller for a diner but fine. Food is okay from what we ordered but not amazing. Chef salad wasn't exactly a chef salad traditionally since it did not come with a hard boiled egg and had bacon (very hard pieces) ham (shredded small amounts) and either pieces of chicken or turkey but it was the scraps - not appealing. For the cost, not worth it at all. I'd like to give it another try breakfast instead (served all day). read more

We recently visited Dave's Diner for the second time. My husband ordered a bowl of baked oatmeal (a rare find), and an over easy egg with a slice of scrapple (deep fried). I had a cheesesteak omelette We were both happy with our selections. Note that home fries are ala carte, but prices of egg dishes accommodate for this. I was happy with just the omelette. Coffee refills were readily provided as well as a portion to go. Service was good and sufficiently attentive. Ambiance was typical of an old school diner. Restaurant and restrooms were clean and well maintained. We will visit again soon as we are moving to this area soon. read more

The first smthing I did when I went into this quaint little diner was introduce myself..."I'm Jim, you must be Dave!" I joked to a woman behind the lunch counter. With a deep manly voice, she spit out chawl into a spittoon and said "that's right boy, I'm Dave." A busser behind me said "I'm Dave too, in fact we're ALL Dave!" She went in the back, and through the window to the kitchen I watched her scoop dirty mop water into a cup and serve it to me. I hadn't tried this place in years. The last time I did, it was really bad. I don't know if it changed ownership since then or what, but when I saw the reviews, I figured I should give it another try. So glad I did! The service is excellent. The menu is fairly small, but everything we ordered was excellent. I recommend the baked oatmeal. The fries and onion rings were both perfect. They serve breakfast and lunch and do both very well. I loved being in a vintage diner while hunting for antiques. It just feels appropriate. My only complaint is that they are cash only. It says so on the door, but I had missed it. Dave's Diner is a gem in the middle of nowhere that's CASH ONLY. It's easy to find, being directly off the road with a half paved/half gravel parking lot. Don't come here too late as they open early and close early. Dave's is not the largest and is seat yourself. Waitress was working several tables and was clearly good at it. Menus are paper and they serve basic diner food: Breakfast and Burgers. I ordered Dave's breakfast which was solid. The scrambled eggs were prepared omelet style which was different and the breakfast potatoes were perfect. The toast and bacon were also good. Dave's also has excellent coffee. First off, this place is cash only which they mark clearly on the door. ATM on site. I should have listened to the person at the ATM in front of me that warned us that their breakfast for two was $50 and really bad. We ordered two plates of what consisted of sausage, scrambled eggs, peppers & onions mixed with home fries and a side of toast. Absolutely no seasoning (or flavor) whatsoever. I never add salt to any finished dish because I'm not big on salty but it took three doses of salt, pepper and ketchup (which I only add to fries) to make the plate slightly edible. There was nothing fried about the meal whatsoever. Everything was soggy and wet and tasted like it had been sitting in a steamer tray for hours. We both left half a plate each as it was really quite bad. Drinks were a Coke and coffee which totalled up to $40.28 (before tip). Our server was decent but that was about it. I don't go to diners very often but this is one I will never visit again. How regulars eat there is a mystery. Avoid if you like good with flavor. read more

Clean, old school diner nestled in a one stop light town. Perfect for those coming to the area for antique shopping. I've lived in this town for 15 years. I absolutely love the establishment. Slightly pricier than the next closest breakfast options, but the food is slightly better in my opinion. They've got the best chocolate chip pancakes in the county. I feel comfortable saying this as I've been just about everywhere at one time or another. Today I opted for the spinach and feta omelette special. Pretty standard and nothing flashy, but lets be honest... when you walk into a diner, you're not looking for flashy. You're looking for a waitress with a great smile pouring you the first cup of coffee for the day, a solid portion size, good flavor and an affordable price. All the boxes get checked with the exception of price. As mentioned before it's a bit high and has been since I moved into the area and discovered Dave's. It is what it is. Everybody has bills to pay. I would likely be here twice a week or more if it was just a smidge lower pricing or if I felt I got a little more value (add potatoes to the egg/omelette options guys). With that being said, it doesn't mean I'd swear the place off and not go. Sometimes you have to treat yourself ‍ The pros... never had a bad meal here. The food is always consistent and portions are generous. The staff is always friendly and Dave's keeps up either their social media fairly well to let you know what's cooking at Dave's. Cons... Price (which I already mentioned and don't want to beat a dead horse). Hours... I miss the days when Dave's was open just a bit earlier. On the other side of that... what I wouldn't give to see them offer dinner service. The area is in DIRE NEED of another option that's not a pizza shop. To be honest... dinner can be a pain with my family on the fly. During sports seasons we do a lot of takeout dinners from Two Cousins down the road. I would happily order from Dave's. The convenience of walking 150 yards over driving to get dinner after a long day would be worth it. The other option is Park Place which.. while cheaper... is mediocre at best when it comes to dinner takeout. If either of these two things (price or dinner) were to change, I'd happily drop 5 stars on it. For now, it's a solid 4 for old reliable. A side note... they are cash only. This doesn't bother me, but I've seen others complaining about that and the ATM that's on site. Rest assured... these people who are complaining have never owned or managed a small retail business and do not understand why these are in place. Do not listen to any of the "bad" reviews on this place. Just had a HUGEEE breakfast and it was delicious. Service was great and the waitresses are very nice people. There is a great family feeling in there that you cant get elsewhere. It feels like you are eating in your grandma's kitchen like a kid again. For 2 people we got coffee, water and 2 large plates with everything on it for $34 and we are full as a tick! Understandably, they have had to raise their prices over the years due to inflation but people should not be blaming a small business for trying to make a living. You should really be mad at big corporations raising prices when they already have plenty of money, not the small diner in adamstown. If you don't like paying then cook your own breakfast. I really feel bad for the residents in this area who love dining out. It's a restaurant desert. We camp often in the area and decided to get out of our camper and have a good sit down breakfast. Little did we know that finding a restaurant in this area that's open on a Sunday would be so much of a task. But given the area is heavy with Mennonite and Plain population it's really no surprise. Our Google search lead us to Dave's and we passed several closed eating establishments on the way. A wise entrepreneur could easily make some bank by opening a GOOD place to eat with late and Sunday hours. I'm sure the community is desperate for more options. Rant over and back to the review.... Inside the entrance was a seating area where a few couples waiting. Inside the diner were empty tables, so why the wait? We were instructed to write our names on a tablet and someone would be coming for us shortly. The couples seated with us explained there were waiting anywhere from 15-30 minutes but didn't mind. They too saw the empty tables but weren't concerned as they claimed to be regulars. Regulars traveling from a few towns away to eat here. Must be good I thought. My belly growled in anticipation. Presented were basic breakfast offerings but nothing that really stuck out. Prices were a little high too. However once our food arrived we immediately felt lack lustered. My very basic breakfast of eggs, bacon and hash browns were in the $9 range. Onions were extra. I don't have a problem paying that if it were good but a home cook could have produced a better meal. Did I mention they were CASH ONLY? In this day and age?!? They did have a very limited selection of kid's breakfast items but again overpriced. I paid $3.95 for a piece of bread with a hole cut out and an egg in the hole with no drink for the toddler dining with us. I think at that price point the drink should have been included. My meal was bland, especially the hash browns, even with the upcharge of onions. Some potato cuts were huge chucks while others were small and crispy so the cooking and texture were inconsistent. I always wonder why restaurants insist on serving bland hash browns when it's so easy to elevate them with herbs, salt and pepper. Hubby's pancakes weren't memorable and he had to ask repeatedly for more syrup as they give you such a small amount. Service was good and efficient but clearly understaffed. Service is what saved this from a 2 star experience to a 3, food/prices warranted a 2. They did their job well, but without a doubt needed an extra server. Overall the place was loud and close quarters. We could hear everyone's conversations around us. A family sitting at a nearby table kept interjecting themselves into ours. The is a nice old fashion Steel paneled dinner that will set you back in a different time. No credit cards but they do have an ATM on site so you can tap the MAC for a fee. Daves is an excellent little breakfast/lunch diner. I've gone a couple dozen times, used to live a few blocks away. I was delighted to see them open their doors again on 11/5. I've gone 4 times since then. The wait staff is friendly and personable, food is quickly made, they serve whole milk( rare these days). It's small and cute. I've never been disappointed with a meal or service. They always treat my son so well, they've practically watched him grow up.
