Incredible experience. I can't say enough great things about this place. I've brought in four pairs of high-end denim for hemming, and every time the work was completed in under 20 minutes. The team is friendly, professional, and their prices are very reasonable. Most tailors would take a week or more, but they deliver exceptional results on the spot, using a proper chain stitch machine to preserve the original look and character of the denim. That level of craftsmanship and service is hard to find. The experience was truly above and beyond. Next time I'm in, I'll be picking up a pair of their jeans as well. HOLY CRAP!! These guys are so incredibly slow!! I can't believe they get good reviews, they must only do timely work for the locals. March 13th is when I paid for my "extreme damage" darning service. (these holes were no bigger than a quarter btw) June 3rd is when I was notified they were being shipped back to me. 11.5 weeks for something that they say will take 6-8 weeks. After the second month came and went, I was sure I wasn't going to get my jeans back. On Friday, May 15th I received a reply to my email asking about the status of my jeans. Tawny said that Steven is hoping to get March darns finished up by Tuesday. I wrongly assumed she meant the following Tuesday, not 2 weeks later. I guess Steven didn't hope quite hard enough. At very least, they could be more realistic on their stated timeframe to expect the work being done so the customer can make the choice to wait a ridiculous amount of time or to go somewhere else with their business. To top it off I got my jeans back and they smell terrible now. They insisted the jeans be washed when I sent them in and they were, I got them back smelling like the bottom of a goodwill clothing bin. This was my second time dealing with railcar. I ordered a t shirt and apparently ordered it in the wrong size. I sent it back and got an email saying that they received the shirt and they would exchange it. After a month went by I emailed them inquiring about the status of the shirt. Tawny replied, "Steven is falling a little behind on his list of things to finish up but he scheduled himself to finish printing next week". This is a whole month after they received the other shirt. Maybe if they started working earlier than 10am they could get things done in a timely manner. I'm glad in the end I just took a refund (minus the shipping cost of course) for the t shirt because I wouldn't want to advertise such a lousy company on my clothing and inadvertently cause someone else to have to deal with them. read more

I've been following Railcar online for years and jumped in slowly in early 2020 by purchasing a couple of the covid masks they were making in-house. They were good and delivery was quick and easy. Then I sent a difficult pair of jeans in for a new hem. The job was challenging because I'd worn them cuffed and wanted the new chainstitch hem in the area that was frayed from cuffing. They nailed it and I wore them for another 2.5 years. Then i got a pair of their house-made jeans in the new Switcher cut. All their online sizing information was perfect, and the jeans fit just right. They are very well-built and a bargain at the price. My only regret is that I've not visited the shop, due to living a 3-4 hour drive north of the LA area. Walked in to get two pairs of jeans hemmed and it took no more than 15 minutes for both pairs. I had previously gotten their taper/hem and darning services done for a pair of 3sixteens years ago and have always been satisfied with the quality of their work and customer service. The service is very attentive, and they happened to carry Naked and Famous and offered free hemming and shipped my altered jeans to me. We've always had a great experience here. Have gotten jeans hemmed, my wife has shopped for clothes, always great customer service and a cool atmosphere. The closest I get to raw denim is 501's, but you can come in here and they don't make you feel like you're 'not in the club.' Always support local small business. read more

The materials are fantastic, love my sashiko chore coat. The customer service is excellent and they always got back to me quickly and were quick to offer any exchange if I didn't love the article. I have been wanting to check out Railcar for a while now. Finally got a chance to do so recently... I was interested in the products I've seen them post on social media. More specifically, the flight trousers and their denim detergent & spray. The space is set up nicely. There is proper barber shop section, skin & haircare products, denim rack, cut & sew garments next to it... as well as shoe display featuring Red Wing boots, Gola trainers and Thorogood boots among others. The products they carry and manufacture are very well curated. I can appreciate that. I liked the space and the items I saw. The flight trousers made with Japanese nep denim really caught my eye and I will try them out the next time I visit. I got their signature denim laundry detergent ($16) and denim spray ($16) in the meantime. Customer service was excellent. Taylor helped me out. She answered all my questions about products, denim, hemming services and was just a wealth of information. I appreciate her taking the time. I will be back for sure. I knew about Railcar goods from their pomade line and since I've moved to California I wanted to checkout the shop. They make so much cool stuff from denim Jeans and jackets to shirts and pomade. The employees were kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. The employees told me how they could make a custom pair of denim for you if you like a certain fit and material which was really impressive. They do tailoring and denim repair in shop as well even if not Railcar brand. I love Railcar and really enjoyed my visit. read more

Pros: - Great customer service BEFORE you buy something or when your are looking around the store. - The quality of the clothes are great. - You can get haircuts here too. Scotty the barber is awesome and does a great job. Cons: - Pre-orders can take a year+, (they won't tell you if a pre-order gets pushed back either) but they will happily take your money for the pre-order. One of my pre-orders was going to take up-to a year! I only found this out 6 months after I paid and the only reason I found out was because I called. Is it that much to ask to send a status update on pre-orders once a month? Especially when the item costs hundreds of dollars? The owners are nice people. I do wish the best for them, but I think they fail to understand that when you sell expensive, albeit hand crafted items, a certain expectation is required after a pre-order is placed. Keep your customers informed about an order, especially if it's going to take several months to a year or more! Customers shouldn't have to hunt down an order after it's paid for. So please do shop and buy here, but ONLY if the item you want is in stock. PS: 2 stars seems harsh, but according to Yelp, 2 Stars means "Could've been better" and honestly my experience with Railcar could've been. read more

First off,I wanted to say how happy and proud I am convincing myself to come here. Not only did I bring in my pants in the wrong time (Covid/curfew) but the wait and all the miss communication was all worth it! I brought in two pairs of pants that need some adjustments. Couple months passed I received the pants and one of them was only shorten. I brought back the pair that needed adjustments and unfortunately I had to pay extra $60 to get them redone. It was outrageous!  But I didn't want to cause any problems because I still want to support the local business. So now the second time i went to go pick up my pants. EVERYTHING came out amazing as well and they gave me an envelope with my refund! Railcar is a small business that offers unique and quality products with exceptional customer service. I've had them chain stitch several pairs of jeans in the past, but finally made a denim purchase. Probably one of their priciest jeans, a 50% kevlar and raw selvedge denim. Coming in at a hefty 16.5 ounces, these jeans are practically indestructible...great for motorcycling. They were well over $300 and worth every penny, the materials and craftsmanship are top notch. Of course they custom chain stitched the hem to my preference at no extra cost. Great product, great experience, highly recommended! read more

I purchased my first pair of Railcar jeans when they were located in Arcadia. Then I purchased a few more pair when the shop moved to Monrovia, Recently, I bought my first pair from the El Monte shop. Sad to say, the quality of the jeans have been compromised. Before, they paid closer attention to detail. The amount of detail was the biggest selling point for me. They went from 3 stitches to 2. I'm paying more money for jeans that aren't as well built as before. I was very disappointed. Up until now, I've been very happy with the RailCar brand, now I feel forced to find another denim provider. I'll give Brave Star a shot... :( read more

A hidden gem in a small quiet town. Been taking my PBJs and ONIs here for the past 3 years. Usual services include darning, hemming, and leg tapering. The quality of service is exceptional and the prices for alterations/repairs are reasonable. I have never met the person that has been doing all these phenomenal repairs, presumably Steven, but whoever he or she is, the quality of work is beyond amazing. The turn around time from drop off to pick up is usually 3 to 4 weeks; a simple hemming job could literally take 10 minutes. There is absolutely no wait time here! For raw expensive denim jeans, this is the perfect place to go if you need repairs or alterations. To Steven, consider adding unsanforized denim to your repertoire and I will wholeheartedly endorse them. read more

Sent my Japan Blue jeans in for tapering using their online shipping service. Some details: My jeans were an 18oz selvedge raw denim pair - the JBO-660. Not exactly your everyday run-of-the-mill jeans. These are heavyweight, selvedge, and died on the warp and weft, with a particularly dark thread. I shipped the jeans and received a notice from the store when they were received. The jeans were shipped back to me within two weeks of receipt from the store - 1 week earlier than expected. When I received them, they had tapered from the inseam, leaving the selvedge untouched. They had almost perfectly matched the thread color, and the measurements were exactly what I had specified. I had tapered the thigh measurement by .75 inches, and done a more aggressive knee and leg opening taper. All were done professionally as if they had been this way straight from the manufacturer. tl;dr - the taper job was excellent, and 100% what to my specifications. Would absolutely recommend using them for tapering your specialty/raw denim. read more

After finishing up with a customer, he showed us both around the grounds of the shop, explaining the details of each machine, and introducing employees. I can't imagine this is done with every customer, but it really highlighted Steven's enthusiasm for what he is doing in a completely approachable and unpretentious manner. He had me go back into the shop to measure out the proper cut and hear my concerns about how I'd be cuffing, etc. this was super important to me, and I'm so thankful I wasn't rushed through the process. This is a review for an in-store visit (2 visits actually) for my first pair of high-quality American-made jeans. I heard about Steve and Railcar Goods from the Reddit threads and decided to pay them a visit. The girl working the front desk was very helpful and patient with my many questions and helped me find the perfect pair based on my feedback to her as I tried various pairs/sizes out. I made the rookie mistake of not knowing the length I would need to hem the jeans at or having the footwear I would be using so I had to make a second visit to get the length of the jeans. Steven personally helped me get the proper fit and to my surprise, he said they would be ready in 15 minutes! I went ahead and ordered another pair of a different cut during the second visit and Steve offered to give me a tour on my return for the pickup. Just an awesome guy. So, fast forward and I'm at home checking the fit with my various different boots and I am very happy with the end result. 5 stars for service AND product, I look forward to rocking these jeans for years to come. this is very tough to write.......withourt seeming like some kinda mooch lookin' for a handout!!! I love everything in the store and want one of each in my size! AND they cut hair!!!! Sadly have not needed a trim when I've been in before, but I use their hair products every week! I order online their pomades, but it's a comfort to know its a few miles away if I need a excuse to travel a bit east to the wonderful small city they dwell in. I had just bought 2 pairs of Joe's jeans from Bloomingdales but they come at a very long length so you need them hemmed when you've got a 30 inseam. I have gone in the past to Self Edge over on La Brea, but I always dread going there since it's such a traffic nightmare. After some googling, it was a happy surprise to see that there was another option in my hometown! Going to Railcar, it was a very subtle storefront so make sure you've got your Google Maps directions on! Once inside, it's a very welcoming environment with lots of cool products available. I was there just for the hemming, and I was immediately helped by the team there. After pinning the jeans at my desired length, I was expecting to hear that I could get my jeans in a week or so - imagine my surprise when they said it would take about 15 minutes! That's a definite improvement from Self Edge! I understood why this turnaround was possible when I got a brief tour of their workroom - it's pretty amazing to see the machinery and talent involved in making, modifying, or repairing clothes - and it's all right there attached to the showroom. There's a lot of pride in this business and I'm happy to recommend Railcar to anyone who loves their denim! The finished work was great and the price was right. read more

Amazing tapering service!!! Highest recommendation! I sent them my brand new black 14oz Iron Heart 777s for taper and hem service and I couldn't be more pleased. It is obviously risky tailoring denim that costs hundreds of dollars - especially requesting them to taper the leg opening by 2 full inches - but I gave it a shot and Railcar did a perfect job. I also love the form they provide on their website to enter the measurements of the taper at the thigh, knee, and leg opening. I will only use Railcar Fine Goods for all my denim tailoring. read more

My first and still my favorite denim shop, Railcar Fine Goods is a rarity in the world of raw denim. All Railcar clothing products are manufactured in-house and the owner Steven Dang has probably had his hands on almost every piece made. Their no-frills approach to both manufacturing and aesthetics produces extremly well made clothing with timeless clean style. As a bigger guy, the fact that they make sizes up to 46 and can custom make larger sizes is refreshing. Their pricing is competitive and reasonable for what you are getting, and their customer service is top-notch. They offer denim services like hems/tapers/repairs and do an amazing job. They have a great barbershop as well, with a fantastic barber. Do yourself a favor and stop in for some jeans and a haircut. You really can't go wrong. read more
