We had left the Badlands of South Dakota that morning, and were on a full day drive across Wyoming to Yellowstone. Gillette is a great lunchtime stop, and the Railyard was delicious! A bit late posting this but I want to express my disappointment in our easter meal. We were a party of 8 with reservations. We were first seated at a very large horseshoe type booth were you had to literally shout at each other to converse. There were other tables available so I asked to be moved. The buffet was all that was available and what a disappointment it was! Empty entree dishes, cold, dried out food and little variety! The only thing that was good about our experience was the very nice server that we had! Wish I had cooked at home and saved the $200+ that was spent!! read more

On a recent road trip I decided to adventure off the roadway for some grub. The Railyard in Gillette Wyoming was the perfect pick! The food was extremely delightful. The Bison meatloaf was fresh and hearty. 2 nice slices served with mashed potatoes that had a nice consistency. What I also felt awesome about here is that they allow you to pick your side with many great options to choice from. Supporting local, I had the ABC Sol Dance beer - most excellent! I had thought the Prime Rib was my favorite place in town, but the Railyard is definitely neck and neck for me. I can flip a coin for either and be very happy. Awesome service, great atmosphere (not too loud, perfect date night) and terrific food. The filet is as tender as can be. read more

A group of 11 stopped into Railyard for breakfast while passing through WY on our way to Sturgis. Free street parking can be found. Discover is an accepted form of payment. A 20% gratuity is added to each tab for large parties. This charge should be posted somewhere on the menu rather than just showing up on the receipts. Our group was easily seated since we were the only patrons in the Railyard for Sunday Brunch at opening hour. During Sunday Brunch, bottomless Bloody Mary's and Mimosa's are $12. Both drinks are interchangeable as well. Slow service ensures that "bottomless" isn't fully taken advantage of. My wife and I shared the Chicken Fried Steak (with chicken) for $10.95: potatoes, chicken strips, two eggs and country gravy. We also ordered a side of Grits for $1.95. I should have been advised that the chicken in our meal was chicken strips rather than chicken fried chicken. Big difference. The potatoes were old, hard and flavorless. The country gravy was lukewarm and bland. The grits were paste-like and tasteless. Breakfast was a huge disappointment. Our server was irritable and slow. Guess with a guaranteed 20% gratuity, minimal effort or a smile are not required. Overall, a waste of money and terrible food. read more

Ordered a filet mignon from this restaurant in Wyoming, a state famous for its beef. It was served basically raw so I sent it back to get it pink instead of bloody red. When it came back it was so tough the steak knife couldn't even cut it. Worst filet I have ever had in my 60+ years. it was inedible so I didn't eat it. Very disappointing. Placed an order by phone for pickup for 4 people. Both of the people I spoke with were very friendly! Orders were nearly perfect (kitchen left the bacon off of the bacon cheeseburger but paid attention to the no onion requests). Picking up the food was a little obnoxious, 3 waitresses asked if we needed help and we said we had a to go order. None of them went to find the bartender and were apparently unable to run our credit card without her. Shrimp salad was delicious, burgers and grilled chicken sandwich were very good as were the mac and cheese and fries for sides. Only complaint was the sides were pretty skimpy. I would say this place is just okay. The cocktail was fine and the beer selection was enough. The service was okay, we didn't wait too long for anything after we got greeted. We stood at the front for a few minutes with no one in sight. The artichoke dip was almost refrigerator cold when it got to our table. We were starving so we ate it anyway instead of sending it back. We had the bison tortellini and it tasted like hamburger helper. At $21 for a plate of this, I would just go buy a box of hamburger helper. The bison meat was nothing special. So basically it's all an ok experience, but overpriced for what it is. I'd probably just pick somewhere else to go next time I come through town. The environment was fine. Food was delicious. Cooked perfectly. Fries were thick and wavy cut with perfect amount of spices. The setting was fancy-ish and furniture all looked modern rustic. Service was great and wait staff was friendly. We were in a rush driving through town and I didn't take photos of the food, but you won't be disappointed. Nice, friendly restaurant. Lovely hostess who was great with my son ( crayons/goldfish/chocolate...and ok with him running around). We came around 3, so in between lunch and dinner. Mainly locals enjoying the afternoon. The restaurant is huge with a patio, bar, and more private rooms. I had the walleye, a fish (I had no idea). It was fresh from the lake and delicious. We spent the night in Gillette and it was late so we were happy to find an open restaurant. The hostess seemed annoyed to have to seat us. She literally rolled her eyes even though it was still an hour until closing. The waitress was very nice. The chicken sandwich was good however my husband asked for Mac and cheese as a side and I kid you not it was maybe a tablespoon of noodles spread onto an appetizer plate. We called the order in and they could not have been more accommodating on the phone and when my wife went to pick the order up, they were great, friendly, personable and very pleasant. She went to pick the order up a few minutes early and they were very prompt to help her. Then there is the food, we had the bison meatloaf and the New York strip. Both were excellent. Solid dinner place. Great quiet, upscale atmosphere with a nice diverse menu. We had the center cut pork chop, Buffalo chicken tater tots, Caesar salad and shredded beef tacos. The Railyard looked like one of the premiere options for Gillette, Wyoming so we stopped here for our 3 PM late lunch/early dinner. The interior of the Railyard is top notch; it made me wish I were wearing my wine country casual wear rather than my cross-country road trip shorts and t-shirt. I ordered the steak salad; it was cheaper than steak salad in the PNW so it seemed like the perfect option. Unfortunately, the steak (which was huge, by the way) was incredibly fatty and not cooked as ordered. I made a solid effort to eat and enjoy my meal but was disappointed overall. The Railyard has a lot of potential and is definitely worth trying out, but it's definitely not a "must eat spot" when in Gillette. read more

This is one of my favorite places to go when we have family in town. There's so many food options and we always find something we like. I always try to order something different. For apps I like the spinach dip and the bruschetta. The stuffed mushrooms seem to have too many toppings and only a few mushrooms. For entrees I like the salmon, bacon wrapped filet, and I forget what it's called but it's a chicken dish. My kiddo loves the kid mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and the texas toast garlic bread. They seem to be out of a lot of beers at times but don't fret, they have a full bar. We've had the same servers a lot which is nice because you can establish a relationship with them instead of it being somebody new each visit. Must have a great manager and owner! I came here for a Christmas party and the servers we had who have been there a while seemed a little overwhelmed. The food was great but it took a long time to get drinks to where I ended up going up to the bar to order instead. Not a big deal but maybe have a dedicated drink server for large parties.
