We saw signs for miles alerting us to this place. We popped in and asked the wait. The hostess was not pleasant and said "when we're full we are full". So why don't your signs say RESERVATION ONLY?? Who makes vacation a month or more in advance when you are driving across states. I cannot say enough about the service and food at Rainbow Grille. It is a tradition of ours to have dinner whenever we are in Pittsburg, NH and they never disappoint. We are sit at the bar people. We love to talk to other customers and the bartender. It was not super busy when we first arrived but as the night wore on the customers kept coming and the staff was never thrown. If I could have kissed the chef I would have. The lobster ravioli and smoked trout appetizer are both outstanding. For dinner they had prime rib which we paired with lobster pie. On the 23rd I had roast duck done perfectly and my daughter had a wedge salad with homemade dressing. Friday evening I had prime rib, the best I have had in my life, my daughter had baked stuffed haddock, her favorite and the best she has ever had. We had dinner there last night and all (4) ordered their "famous" double Cosmopolitans. When they arrived i thought they looked like all cranberry juice after taking a sip i didn't taste any alchohol, we brought it to the waitresses attention and she said she would see what she could do but never came back. When the bill came and we were charged $52.oo we asked to speak to the manager (Sunshine) she came to our table with a sour puss and seemed to be put off by us and rude. So I will start off by saying that we did not even have the option to eat here. You have to make reservations weeks in advance. You can get take out but only from their tavern menu which has ONE marked gluten free item, shrimp cocktail. They absolutely will not even consider making you anything off their regular menu even though there are many gluten free options. We were there a few years ago before my son's wedding. Great food, great service. We wanted more of that, so back in August I made reservations. Wouldn't you know it, we showed up and our reservation was not there at all. They weren't very accommodating, because I asked if we could sit at the bar and order some food, and they said no. What is really irritating is that we had to drive 20+ miles to get to another restaurant that didn't require reservations. I'm really sad because we looked forward to this trip for months. We had reservations for dinner but arrived early and had a couple of cocktails at the bar. The bartender was young and friendly. She made descent drinks and was very busy. When we were brought to a table in the dining room, we were stuck in a cold, very drafty corner next to a large party of over a dozen children and adults who were very boisterous and obviously intoxicated. We considered just leaving but instead asked to be moved and were eventually taken to another, much warmer table. Unfortunately, both the stuffed mushrooms and lobster ravioli appetizers were cold and blah, steak dinners were mediocre, and service was good if you could get her attention. We took all our leftovers back to our cabin, reheated and doctored it up a bit and it was much better the second time around. We didn't have a reservation (recommended) but were able to squeeze into the Tavern. The white sangria was nicely sweet with blueberries, halved grapes and chunks of fresh apple. The lobster roll is fabulous. I ordered sweet potato fries and they were just the right degree of crispness. The wait staff was very accommodating and friendly. The hostess was extremely rude, snippy and made sarcastic comments. We made advance reservations and due to COVID-19, there were issues about allowing our 4 year old grandson to sit at the table with us. The hostess claimed it was against the law to have more than 6 at the table, even though he was a small child. The level of rudeness and condescending attitude forced us to walk out without dinner. This was our 30 year wedding anniversary dinner. I don't recall ever walking out of a restaurant before. The level of disrespect was so over the top we decided we would rather go without than endure another moment in the hostesses presence. If you have the unusual opportunity to eat at The Rainbow Grill, the atmosphere and food are awesome! However, without a reservation, which is very hard to get, it is very difficult to get in. They almost appear happy to turn you away. They have odd and confusing rules about what menu is available which day of the week, what room you can reserve (including the bar). While we all feel the covid crunch, they took advantage of the opportunity to stop serving complimentary snacks and mints. What could be a pot of gold at the end of a "rainbow" is hard to get to. read more

Incredible hidden gem in the backwoods of the North Country. Boston class dining right on Back Lake with great food and presentation/service. This is like an oasis for the fly fishing community and they will be more Volvo's then pick ups in the lot but its not snobby at all. Decor is understated, elegant fishing/sporting lodge like you'd see in Colorado or Idaho, views are beautiful. read more

The Wife and I were lucky to get a gift certificate from a local business for the Rainbow Grille. ( Very relaxed great dining and a Diamond in the rough.) We chose to eat in the Tavern looking out over Back lake. the music playing was a good Mixture. Our Host Linda was charming and very accommodating. The menu was interesting and had a good selection of Reasonably priced drinks and wines. Our Waite person, (a different Linda )"was very patient and gave us all the time we needed to decide. We both had Caesar salad made perfectly. My wife had the Salmon special and she said it was most excellent. I had a strip steak Rare and a half a lobster pie they were both great. The portions were so good we had left overs for lunch the next day. There are not a lot of places up in the area that have such a great atmosphere. This was a great experience. We came to Pittsburg for the annual Moose Festival in August 2019. Several people recommended this restaurant as high end. The restaurant is part of a resort on Back Lake but open to the public and you do not need to stay at the resort. For an appetizer I had the sea scallops wrapped in bacon. It was excellent. For an entree I had salmon and my girlfriend had one of several steaks on the menu. Both entrees were average. The salmon was over cooked. The steak was prepared properly but nothing special. The service was good and the staff friendly and welcoming. We found other restaurants in the area with better food but the Rainbow Grill had a more upscale atmosphere but we dressed casual and were very comfortable. read more

Place was unreal! Absolutely make a reservation. I got the prime rib probably the best I've ever had as tender as a filet if not more. Our group also got the rack of ribs, filet and bacon wrapped scallops. Everything was fantastic! They truly care about the quality of the food and take pride in what they serve, it shows:) we also got 2 desserts the cheesecake and strawberry short cake both were awesome.
