My mom has been fighting Alzhiemers for 10 years now and in a memory care facility for the past 6 and the last 2 in a nursing home. She declined rapidly very recently and she is saying it is time. I did my research and selected Rainbow to provide hospice services. It has been about 3 weeks and so far I have been quite impressed. lots of team engagement with me and more importantly my mom. Disappointing care to say the least. Hospice shouldn't be let's play GOD and kill them faster. The nurses advice are horrible and to think some people follow their directions. Makes you wonder how many people actually follow this and leads to the early demise of loved ones. It has become a business rather than empathetic compassionate comfort care. read more

I don't know where to begin. For everyone who has rated Rainbow Hospice with 5 stars, I truly and sincerely envy your experience. Very sadly, ours has been a little different. 2 days ago my Dad, who has two types of terminal cancer coded on an operating room table after cardiologists found a blockage to his main artery in his heart. After CPR and extremely painful chest compressions (with broken ribs and possible broken sternum) he was "brought back" to us. He was taken to ICU and we were told that due to his cancer diagnosis that he is not a candidate for heart surgery due to his advance head, neck, and Esophageal cancer. It was at this time that my family and I made the extemely hard decision (with the consent of my Dad) to stop all treatment and try to let him live out the rest of his days in peace and comfort. We were advised by hospital staff to contact Rainbow Hospice. Our initial meeting was unbelievably comforting. We were told that due to my Dad's condition, that he absolutely qualified for In Hospital Hospice Care. That nurses would assess his condition daily and if there ever was a time he improved that he could be moved to a nursing facility or in home hospice and that Medicare covered all of our hospice needs. It was explained at that time to the hospice nurse that in home hospice was NOT an option, as my mother is fighting her own stage 4 cancer would not be able to provide the care needed for him to live out the rest of his days in comfort. We were again assured that there were other options that would be covered by Medicare and we would not need to worry. WONDERFUL! Paperwork signed, weight lifted that Dad could live his last days pain free and with dignity, right??? WRONG!!!!!! 2 days after signing paperwork, Rainbow staff has decided that Dad can no longer stay in the hospital. And with his broken ribs (possible sternum) advanced Esophageal and Head and Neck cancer, GI feeding tube, and 2 days after full cardiac arrest he is "strong and healthy" enough to be sent home with his wife who herself is in a stage 4 cancer diagnosis/fight for her life. We, as a family, are now scrambling and in a literal fight for my Dad's remaining day to make sure he is pain free and can be treated and helped through his final journey like the a 73 year old Korean War veteran, husband of 48 years, father of two, grandfather of 3 deserves. We let our guard down with you Rainbow, and we trusted you in our most vulnerable moments. In my 40 years of life, this is my biggest regret. I know this post is long and if you read it until the end, please heed my warning. DO NOT subject your loved ones to this terrible institution. Shame on you Rainbow Hospice. My Mother passed away on July 21, 2021 and my understanding was for hospice to assist and provide comfort. My Mother endured 4 1/2 hrs of pain and suffering to the end with no assistance. During the time I reached out to the triage nurse who only made me feel helpless. I was scolded and told that I must have not been following the correct dosages (did it ever occur maybe the medicine does not work for everyone and should have been increased due to liver failure? ) When in fact I was so punctual with the medication and it was not working. I insisted on getting a nurse to come out, I was told 2 hrs would be the earliest. That nurse showed up 5 mins after Mom had passed which means the 2 hrs turned into 4 1/2 hrs. Rainbow knew Mom was not going to make it, they should have more nurse on call for backup. I also was confused on why travel time was more than 1 hr away. I am left with anger that my Mother did not get the care she needed when it was most important. The time I spent on the phone, I was not able to spend with my Mom for her last time on earth. The pain she went through for 4 1/2 hrs won't leave my head. I am suffering from the feeling that I should have not trusted in this care system. I can not get it back for Mom, but I can seek to help others not experience what we did. Nurse Pat was outstanding while she was here but Hospice failed in the end because of poor planning/management. There should have been someone here at the least for support and comfort as they claim to provide. I have so much to say, but it is now time to make it public. No one has reached out to me as requested. I strongly encourage you to ask the right questions before selecting hospice. Distance, response time, what is the exact care provided, how many nurse on call and will someone be there during the last moments to assist with comfort... so on. I pray, others are not going to suffer this way. It has scarred me for life, the screaming, the motions the body went through, the fear I have of dying, there was nothing comfortable about it. read more

Recently, my mom got put into hospice care and got put with the pink team of rainbow. I was a little nervous for what to expect but wow! Everyone that came in was very fantastic and seemed to really have sympathy for the family. Not only did they do exceptional job on my mom, they also cared about the rest of the family. Our nurse Sharon was absolutely the sweetest person I've ever met. This is the reason why I'm writing this review. She always checked up on all of us! As my mom got closer to God, Sharon was there to talk to all of us. She made sure we were all ok at this hard time. I have nothing but good things to say. I recommend this service 100%. I really didn't know what to expect when my son started in-home hospice. I was terrified! I didn't know what to do. Fortunately, this wonderful group of nurses, social workers and CNAs were there for me all the way. Whenever I called with questions, the triage nurse would help me or not hesitate to send a nurse over to assess the situation. All of the medications were delivered to my front door. A special thanks to Twana, Valerie, Marie, Sharon and Dr. Sunny. The care and compassion we received was far beyond our expectations. I can't thank you all enough for being there for us. read more

This review is directed regarding the Rainbow hospice out of Park Ridge, Il area. My mother was initially admitted to Resurrection hospital and deemed hospice appropriate for the Ark (inpatient hospice). After one week she did not meet criteria and therefore we were told to find a nursing home and she could remain under Rainbow hospice care. We received far better care, support and guidance from the staff at Resurrection and Nursing rehab (on greenwood in park ridge) than we did from this hospice organization. The positive and my only reason for giving one star to Rainbow hospice: is they had 24 hour triage nurses you could call or the nursing staff could reach if medication changes were needed, etc. The triage nurses on the phone were very comforting and seemed knowledgeable. We had a couple field nurses sent out as our assigned nurse, Ellen A. was I am gathering not available. One sent out started to talk to me, as if I didn't know what was going on with my mom, she started by saying...well your mother has cancer...ummm... no....no cancer....wrong patient. Another field nurse sent was very loud, disturbing and upsetting to me and my mom, named Ellen (only filling in for Ellen A) that came unexpected one night at 8pm because my mom had not been seen by hospice in 5 days. Hammered questions at a very confused and at times unable to rest patient. The field nurse, Ellen A, was lacking compassion, support and always in a hurry. I told myself, well my mom is not that bad yet, but when she I am sure Ellen well have more presence and support for us. Not the case. They were no where to be had in my mom's final days. I even texted this Ellen the night before my mom passed and told her I would like to be there the next day when she came and that we were needing some hospice support. I received a very long reply as to why she could not commit (she had to meet a student that was shadowing her)....not my concern. Her reply "I will do my best". Needless to say this day to meet became null as mom passed away at 1:20am that morning. We received a sympathy card last week signed by only one name we recognized that had anything to do with our mom. I really expected so much more in compassion and guidance and knowledge. They were never on the same page as to what they said or even there knowledge of death, medications and expectation. If deciding to go with this organization, check out others first and compare, ask questions. read more

My mother was a patient at Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care Ark. The angels who took care of her were amazing. Not only did they make sure that she was comfortable and pain free, they made sure that our family was well taken care of and understood my mother's medical condition minute by minute. We could be with my mother as much as we wanted and her family and friends had the opportunity to spend time with her and say good bye before she died. Even the dog was invited to visit. I can never say thank you enough to all those who were involved with my mother's care and would recommend Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care to anyone who was facing a similar situation to ours. read more

Really kinda disappointed in Rainbow Hospice.... I see a major difference since it is now part of Presence. Three years ago we used Rainbow Hospice for a family member and it was so thorough, caring and professional. They were there for us in every way. Two weeks ago, another family member was on Rainbow Hospice for a short time. Nobody has yet to follow up, and I truly believe because it was an older person. read more

Rainbow Hospice is an amazing organization that helped us during a very difficult time. As my Mother in Law's health declined the hospitals and nursing home offered a us little in the way of information and support. Rainbow Hospice helped us wade through all of our options and make care decisions. In the end, we were unable to provide the in home assistance my Mother in Law required, but The Ark (the inpatient facility for Rainbow Hospice) offered us a warm and compassionate place to spend our last days with her. We stayed with her in a private room that was as close to a home like setting as possible. A moment that we had dreaded since her initial cancer diagnosis finally came to pass, but Rainbow Hospice helped to provide dignity, in what were her final days. Pink Team. My Mom was short lived as she progressed quickly and passed within a week. Not sure I ever saw all the services available. Social worker Karen, great. Nurse, Mary Beth, Meh. Sorry, when your dealing with COPD and emphysema and laryngeal cancer, I don't care for my nurse to smell like cigarettes. Just a personal turn-off. The chapel was foreign and I had a hard time connecting. I expected, hoped, for more. But, it went fast. Praise God. They were efficient if that is what they are going for. Karen Maczka was awesome. My grandmother was taken care of by rainbow hospice and they did a great job especially one of the nurses Sharon who honestly has the heart of gold even when dealing with an extreme hard situation. I don't usually write reviews for services but I decided to write review for them, because a lot of people in my situation are out there and they are looking for make right decision for love ones in very difficult and sad situation, it doesn't matter you are one of medical professionals in this country when comes to love one's health situation is very scary and confusing and too much pressure and burden on family, I interviewed 3 different groups for my husband, we choose the rainbow , the violet team which worked with us very professional and experienced nurses and the social workers are very companionate and supportive and their Aids was supper experience and very helpful in last 8 days of my husband's life. Their music therapist was very comforting and help my family and my husband enjoy the last minuses of his life , all we should know about hospice is comforting service, they can't do miracle and they are not supposed to save or treats our lone ones, they are there to help you make your love ones more comfortable and free of pain and not suffer from original diseases.I lost my husband 12 days ago and I am still suffering from his lost but it was my duty to write this review to help more people in my situation, I wish no one ever goes through the pain I felt. read more

The Purple Team of the Rainbow Hospice organization were simply amazing. Our nurse, Monika, was exceptional and my mother-in-law truly bonded with her. Monika went above and beyond in keeping us updated and informed of things and guided us through the two month process. When my mother-in-law was transported to The Ark, the doctors, nurses and all involved were caring, compassionate and simply warm and understanding to my mother-in-law's needs as well as our needs. They made sure mom was comfortable and they provided much needed comfort to my husband and I as well. We will always remember the way they cared for Mom up until her last breath. Each and every one of the nurses, doctors and even the lady who played the harp (sorry, I can't recall her name now), were angels to us and we are lucky to have had them in our lives for the week that Mom was in The Ark. I shed a lot of tears during that week and everyone was very compassionate and I so appreciated all of the hugs and kind words given to us. I had an awful experience with this organization! My mother passed away yesterday and Rainbow hospice was recommended to us to help in her life-death transition. You have got to be kidding me! It was a horrible first experience for me! The pink team people (not really sure what the colors mean?) lacked compassion and people skills two important things needed in my opinion if working in this field. I would never recommend this organization to anyone. Fortunately for my mothers sake the Lord spared her before they could do anymore harm! Funny thing is in our experience the nursing home staff were really the Angels in my mothers transition, not the hospice people. read more

I am a clinical psychologist in the Chicago area and have specialized in the treatment of trauma and grief for about 30 years. While I or family members have not yet personally received services from Rainbow Hospice, for professional reasons I am now very familiar with their clinical staff. I can say without reservation that Rainbow's therapists are among the very best in the world. Their level of caring, combined with their use of the most cutting edge approaches to grief, puts them at the top. When I or a family member do need hospice services, I now know where to go. I am writing this to help others so that when they have any patient that is not being cared for in their home or the nursing home they REFUSE to go into the in patient treatment center.(ARK) There is a supreme court ruling that took place in 1997 that permits the use of terminal sedation but only when the patients pain is not being controlled by other means. Hospice Ark is using this terminal sedation not according to medical guidelines and so medical malpractice is the result. I met with the MD and said I will bing my Aunt home and she can. . . . . . . . .to which he replied we will reassess. There was no reassessment he should have said nothing or said that is the best choice. But then medicare money would be lost for the time in the Ark. PLEASE DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW YOUR LOVED ONE TO GO INTO THE HOSPICE ARK WHERE ONLY HOSPICE EMPLOYEES WORK AND THEY ARE NOT CHECKED. It did not matter one bit that their Ark is in a catholic hspital. I beg you please listen to this there is no reassessment to be offered. I pray for Gods forgiveness of what they are doing. read more

Do not go with rainbow hospice! My family and I decided to go with them for my Grandma's care. The woman that I initially met with was nice and answered my questions. The people over the phone were nice. The nurses that came out were not that great. I never met anyone else on the team, ie- cna, social worker, etc. She was on hospice for a few months. Everytime we needed the nurse to come, it took forever. I understand they have other patients, but taking an hour or two every time to come? The cna that came left boxes of diapers all over her room. What happened to a little privacy? A nurse was called to come in because my grandma was lethargic and a little out of it. She had never met her before. The nurse kept on saying to me " I don't know why you think she's out of it". She completely didn't even take me seriously! I wanted to make sure she wasn't over medicated. I think I know my own grandma, and when she is not herself! She took her vitals then retreated to the nurses station to take notes. I never saw her after that. The only nurse that was great was the day my grandma passed. She came after almost an hour of calling her. By then, it was too late to get the care we had expected from the beginning. Rainbow hospice is definitely not the same it used to be years ago. read more

The reason I gave this facility 2 stars is due to the nursing care my mother received the last 3 months of her life. My mother passed away 8 months ago. When she first entered hospice we had the most amazing nurse who's name is Maeghan, who has since moved to The Ark facility. Maeghan became a member of the family and we were blessed to have her care for my mother. She was on what was known as the yellow team. Our social worker at that time was Clare. Well, Clare made my mother cry the first time she visited our house. When I called the supervisor of the yellow team, who at that time was Shirley, (now a triage)nurse), who told me that never she never made her cry, that it never happened. I asked for a different social worker, Shirley had no trouble reacting with attitude but switched social workers. That social workers name was Anna. Anna like Maeghan was a blessing and an honor to have as our team. When Maeghan left to go to The Ark we were given a nurse from the Pink team whos's name was Jeannie. Jeanie was the worst nurse I have ever come across in my life. The word compassion was NOT in her vocabulary. Most of the time she didn't bother to check my mothers vitals, or talk to her. She sat at our house to do her charting of other patients sometimes for 2 hours. One day she came and I asked her if she was going to check my mothers vitals and her EXACT response to me was "Your mother doesn't even know what the hell is going on." Jeannie was here 3 days before my mother passed. When I asked her how much time she felt my mother had left she said again EXACTLY to me "Did you read the book?" You need to read the book" The book she was referring to was a small book regarding death and the dying process called "Gone From My Sight". I will forever regret not telling Rainbow we want a different nurse and not to send Jeannie back. That is something I will forever live to regret. I asked my mother if she wanted to get a different nurse and she said no, she doesn't do anything while she's here anyway. The evening my mother was passing away we had a nurse named Vicky. Vicky was AMAZING! She comforted the family, spoke to all of us and brought a calm to our home and family. I will be forever grateful to her. I am Only writing this to have anyone who is choosing Rainbow to be aware that Jeannie (the nurse from the pink team) Shirley (the triage nurse) and Clare ( a social worker) have no business being in Hospice. I was sent a comment sheet in the mail to ask me about my experience at Rainbow. I said what I had to say and chose the option to have someone contact me regarding my experience with them. It's almost 9 months since my mom passed. No one ever contacted me. I will before ever grateful to Maeghan, Anna and VIcky. Thank you for being there for me for the most difficult time in my life. Jeannie, Shirley, Clare, you need to find another profession. You don't belong in hospice nursing. read more

i am truly sorry about the passing of sandi ps mother. but, i can not fully express how truly wonderful this organization is. they are allowing my mother to remain in her home with the dignity that we have always wanted for her. they have also saved my life and well being, after being my mothers sole caregiver for over 7 years i thought that i was losing my sanity. rainbow has been with my mother for the past 8 months. we, also have the pink team, they and every other person that we have encountered , seems as if they were hand picked by god to be our angels. this final journey of my mothers life has been the saddest and the"best" of times. knowing that with rainbows help, i have been able to keep the promise, to my mother, made over 40 years ago. that was she would never be in a nursing home. i thank rainbow, our nurse, ruth, aide mukima, msw karen, and our chapain ,nitza. we all view things in different ways. the dying process is not for the timid, it is a long (in our case) trying time,but with the help of our team, they have given me this precious time with my mother. thank you.... read more
