Large turnover in permanent staff as well, as they all left after the good admin did. Program outsources for many nursing and caregiving shifts because of consistent staff vacancies. These temp staff are not well trained to the health and safety guidelines of the program or individual resident needs, and are not at all well supervised. Residents walking around with no pants on, soiled from urine or feces. Some haven't changed clothes in multiple days and smell like it. Many have visible bruises or cuts from falls and accidents bc of low supervision. Room doors are locked to keep residents out of their room during the day, and in them at night. Look at the pictures on social media- always the same small group of happy looking seniors while the facility itself houses very many more. There are a small number of really kind and caring individuals who do very good work with residents or at their role at Emerald, but they get overshadowed by those who are just collecting a paycheck- and the negative experiences that stem from that. Overall the program is not structured, staffed, supervised or equipped to provide high quality care for seniors.

The person I needed to talk to was never in and I was always promised a phone call back. I never got a call. Maybe they're short staffed or have turnover? I figured it would be better to go in person to learn more about programs and services at NSCC. I went once by myself. Another time I brought my sister and yet a third time I brought my mother. We walked around the facility in the afternoon. It's nice, clean and spacious. Unfortunately, every time we went to the reception area/desk, we were told that the person we needed to talk to was not in. I gave them my info and was promised a call. I again, never received that call. My family has lived in Northfield for over 55 years. It's unfortunate that we couldn't connect with anyone from the local senior center, in person or over the phone. It would have been nice to have engaged in some sort of programming. Maybe there was something my dad could have enjoyed. He has since passed away.

She was extremely verbally abusive to me when she was on call and I requested my Mom be seen. She was angry she had to come and acted out of control, telling me to call 911 (my Mom was a DNR), saying we needed "a psych consult", asking why I left my Mom if I "cared so much about her". I left for a few minutes (I live one block down) to feed my dog (and the caregiver was there). I finally asked her to leave telling her how this was not the response I expected from hospice after they promised everything in the world to keep my Mom comfortable. She said "good I'm sure everyone (at Guardian) will be glad to see you go." I was absolutely stunned by the whole experience. She was rude, demeaning, unprofessional, angry and devoid of even an ounce of empathy or integrity. When I reported her to the owner the next day all I got was "I'm sorry you had a bad experience". For a nurse to treat us this way in an already stressful and sad time when we entrusted hospice to help us is unforgivable.

I also appreciate that after my daughter's initial assessment there was a clear plan for treatment. We've had good follow up on the PT side (which was deemed a lower priority) and good communication between therapists. It's nice to have a more comprehensive approach rather than carting between multiple therapy appointments, therapists, and clinics.
