I originally went on Groupon to look up massage places near our hotel for our trip. I went on yelp to read the reviews and looked into their website to see if there were any promos happening so that I could support the establishment instead of using Groupon. I read online for some that if you use a Groupon, they "forced you to tip" which I thought was strange because regardless of Groupon or not, you should always tip for massages anyways. I decided to go with Rainbow Spa & Massage as I saw on their website that they had a $119 deal for a couple's 1 hour massage. The massage consisted of hot stones, body and foot massage. I called during the beginning of the week to make an inquiry of it as well as an appointment. There is definitely some language barriers on the phone so just be mindful when making an appointment as well. I was told multiple times on the phone that this $119 deal was for cash only. From my understanding, if you paid in card you have to pay the credit card service fee? or something extra on top of it. The day of, the person called back to ensure that we were still able to make the appointment at 3pm on Friday. We arrived about 10 minutes prior to our appointment because they made it seem like it was hard to find the storefront. The unit was on the side of the building and we found it fairly easy. We walked from our hotel, but they do have a parking lot if you are driving there. When we arrived to the appointment, the lady asked if we had an appointment and we told them we did at 3pm. She looked a little frazzled, and someone else came over to verify our appointment. She said that they were "full" at this location and to follow her to the other rooms in the building. That was a little confusing as we booked an appointment ahead of time so it did not make sense how they had no rooms for us. We ended up following her to a few stores down to Yaya's. Rainbow spa must own Yaya's as well because they walked in as if it was no big deal to get an empty room to do our massages. Both establishments were very clean, and they ask you to take off your shoes at the front prior to walking to the rooms. We were told the massage was 30 minutes body, 30 minutes feet. They were constantly checking in on whether it was enough pressure, which was nice. The people/owners that were working there were nice, the place was clean and they were attentive to us. The cons were how they would open the door to grab things but left the door open and the music choice was interesting. I don't mind them going out to grab the necessary supplies like the hot stones and hot towels but I would appreciate it if they closed the door a little bit while getting it. Though, it did not seem like there were any other customers there besides us at that time so there is that as well. The music ranged from traditional spa music, to music you would hear at Disneyland, to some awkward "ad noises". I hope you don't get thrown off by the weird "ad noises" that gets played every once in a while. For the price of a couple's massage and easy of appointment, I would come back if I am in the state and was looking for another massage. The masseuses were kind and would check in periodically to see if they needed to use more of less pressure. Overall, it was pretty relaxing, clean, and affordable. read more

I had a 2-hour massage today. The therapist was kind, but her hands were quite rough. She would start working on a knot, get halfway through it, then stop and just move on to general rubbing around the body--almost like she was just trying to fill the time. I prefer someone who can find the pressure points and really work through the knots until they're smoothed out. Instead, most of the session was spent just rubbing the body and lightly scrubbing my feet. I mentioned at least three times that I prefer deep pressure and targeted work, but either she didn't understand or just wasn't willing to put in the effort. I still gave her a decent tip, but honestly, it felt like she wasn't passionate about her work. read more

So terrible and a waste of money. The lady on the phone was yelling at me when I called to book an appointment and I should've taken it as a sign. She called me back and told me where to park so fast and hung up, I didn't even get the chance to ask where to park again because the phone call was about 15 seconds. The massage was awkward, I asked for hard pressure but she barely touched me even when I asked again if she could go harder. I've been in so much pain that I was hoping for a relaxing massage and the reviews looked promising. I actually felt worse leaving and felt like my money went down the trash. I still gave a 20% tip because I understand tipping culture and the lady looked at me like it wasn't enough... no thank you no nothing. Had to walk out in awkward silence. Oh my this is my 2nd time back 2 days in a row! Asked for Lucy again and went for the 90 minutes this time. I walked a lot around Wikiki today so my legs, especially the calf, are very sore. Lucy relaxed my whole body first and gift me some hot stones, then she worked on my calf for a good 30 minutes. It was the same oil + push along the tendon (順著筋油推）and it was heaven on earth. Andy and Xixi did our couples massage and it was amazing. Both were very professional and made sure that both my husband and I were comfortable during the entire massage. We did the couple massage with hot stone and body scrub. I was tight in my neck and shoulders, Andy made sure the pressure was not too hard and definitely worked all of my knots out. Xixi gave good amount of pressure for my husband. He has very tight muscles from work and she was able to work out some of that muscle tension. Tl;dr: Great for me, just ok for my husband. Staff speaks Mandarin and may make blunt comments or give insufficient directions. Spa was clean and not crazy expensive. We used a Groupon for a deluxe couple's massage with essential oil and a body scrub. I really enjoyed my massage from Andy. He was really professional and used the right amount of pressure. The acupressure on the knots in my back were painful at first, but felt so much better by the end. My husband would rate three stars, because his masseuse, Vicki, did not apply enough pressure and kept leaving the room. He was disappointed she didn't use acupressure anywhere. I have a couple complaints, but not enough to knock off a star. The description said essential oil, but it was just regular, unscented massage oil. Also, it was odd to not be given robes and walk down the hall to shower off the oil. The shower label was upside-down, so it was a hilarious cold shower with my husband.
