Success! Our tent is up with no instructions

We had a great time here - it's a beautiful state park that you get into free when you're staying at the campground. (The campground has its own separate entrance, and they are not within easy walking distance.) We found the staff to be friendly. The restrooms were fine, but not fantastic. The staff was helpful and polite. We did have an issue with fire ants - they bit us in the parking lot so beware! We enjoyed the fact that the campground has a gated entrance, so it felt very safe. Some of the campsites are quite open, I can see that your camping experience might depend on your site. We stayed on tent site 57, which was Excellent! Close to the parking lot and restroom but shady and private. A perfect spot! I would stay here again (not in a tent...) and I highly recommend for others.

This park as a whole is a small slice of Heaven. I am a Floridian and it is one of my favorite places in the state. My family and I just stayed there Saturday night and had a wonderful time. The campsite was actually pretty perfect except we could have had some more cover from the site next to us. As for customer service, the park staff are used to having people test their boundaries continuously and do start off rather guarded. They soften up into some of the sweetest people once they realize you are not trying to pull something. You have to realize, they deal with thousands of people a week. Most of them are young adults ready to party and during this virus, there are more rules to follow. I have camped in many, many campgrounds in the state and in most, unless they were deserted, the cleanliness of bathroom facilities may leave something to be desired. 98% of the time it is breath sucking humidity, spiders, their webs and mosquitos that are the biggest nuisances in there though. At Rainbow this was different. The camp host cleaned the bathrooms thoroughly with bleach early in the morning. I was treated to a fresh, clean and sanitized restroom first thing, that was probably safer than any East Coast hotel room. What happens during the rest of the day, I do not know. The river and park were absolutely gorgeous as usual. My only disappointment was that the attractions; the waterfalls and grounds of the park, were not able to be maintained as needed due to the virus and I guess, funding. I'm not sure, but even with the obvious depletion of resources, the park is still beautiful. Many thanks to the staff and rangers who got us in, rented us kayaks, made sure my chihuahua didn't get eaten by gators, and left us to enjoy one of the most extraordinary places in Florida.

The entrance isn't where the maps will lead you to. Entrance is on SW 180th Ave Rd & US40

Deciding to take in all the beautiful springs that Florida has, I decided to camp here after reading a lot about the amenities it offer along with the convenient location. We were greeted by friendly Park rangers which also facilitated our kayak rental a well. Once our camper van was fully unloaded and were able to roast some marshmallows, we took in the beautiful scenery amongst us. The raccoons even became my friends. The foliage was unlike any other and the well paved roads with lit key spots made it easier to find the restrooms. This is the real Florida, folks. Since it's a state park, they do have hours that you must abide by. It's rustic in every sense of the word so if you're not well equipped, you might experience difficulties. Bring a bike if you can so you can cruise around and explore. The gravel is a bit unkept in some sites but that's what camping is all about-roughing it out and enjoying the outdoors. I'd gladly return, this time during tubing season !

Chad (campground host) was super helpful in getting us situated, and the $20/day rate was fair. Unfortunately the sites do not have electric hookups, but generators can be used until 10pm. They do have water hookups at each site. The grounds have a couple community pavilions, and about 22 total sites. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table. Fire wood can easily be found by looking around. Most sites offer plenty of shade. The place is commonly utilized by equestrian groups, although there were none during our stay. We were 1 of only 3 occupied sites during our visit. They do have a large bathhouse on site that was very clean. There is a trailhead leaving the park but we did not have an opportunity to do any hiking during our 1 night stay. There are several stores and restaurants nearby if you need to stop for supplies. I wouldn't hesitate to come here again, and would recommend Shangri-La to any others looking for tent or rv sites in this area.

We recently had the unfortunate experience of staying at Goethe Trailhead Ranch RV Campground, and…read morewe must say, it was far from what we expected. First and foremost, the bathrooms were downright filthy and frequently out of toilet paper. It was clear that they hadn't been cleaned in quite some time, with dirt and grime accumulating in every corner. It is frustrating to think that such a basic necessity could be so neglected, especially for a campground that aims to attract visitors. Additionally, the overgrown vegetation was another major issue. The lack of lawn maintenance during the entire month we were there made the campground feel unkempt and uninviting. This neglect also contributed to an explosion of bugs--we were absolutely swarmed! We realize this is Florida and the bugs can be very bad this time of year. That is why it is very important to keep the facility well-maintained and clean to help combat this problem. The infestation made it hard to enjoy any outdoor activities. Being there in August, we were particularly looking forward to enjoying the pool. Unfortunately, while it was open when we arrived, it was locked the very next day due to "maintenance issues" that were never resolved throughout our entire stay. This was incredibly disappointing, especially in the heat of summer when a pool could have made all the difference. Another one of the amenities to this facility was a recreation lounge with a pool table. Unfortunately there was no air-conditioning which made it completely unusable unless you wanted to use it as a sauna. To top it all off, the manager, Amber, left much to be desired in terms of customer service. She was incredibly rude and dismissive when we brought up our concerns about the state of the facilities. Initially, we approached our concerns in a friendly and constructive manner, hoping to address the issues and improve our stay. However, as the month went on, her attitude worsened. She started treating us as if we were acting like first-class citizens who always got their way, when in reality, we are just normal horse people who understand what it takes to run a facility like this. It was disheartening to realize that, despite our genuine concerns, Amber seemed more interested in dismissing us than addressing the problems at hand. As time went on, the worse her attitude became, which was incredibly frustrating. Overall, I would not recommend Goethe Trailhead Ranch RV Campground to anyone looking for a clean and welcoming environment. It's a shame to see a place with such potential being run into the ground. Don't be fooled by their inviting website and advertising. There are many other RV campgrounds that truly cares about their visitors.  Tommie and Sierra Turvey

If you're arriving after dark, be cautious--the entrance sign is not lit. I was driving a 40-foot motorhome towing a 30-foot trailer and mistakenly took the first turn instead of the second. The signage isn't illuminated, so headlights are helpful to confirm you're in the right place. I highly recommend arriving before dark. The campground is very quiet and feels like stepping back into "old Florida." It sits right on the river, where we saw otters playing and fish jumping--literally jumping two feet out of the water. Very cool. We stayed in Site 20, a pull-in site with excellent river views and located right next to the boat ramp. There's a small store on-site that sells firewood, fire rings at the sites, and it's perfect for a relaxing evening. The permanent residents were extremely friendly and helpful. Kayaks are available to rent for river trips (we didn't do that this time). They don't sell bait, but there's a great bait and tackle shop less than a quarter mile across the street with wonderful people--perfect for fishing off the dock. No problems at all, the dogs loved it, and my wife really enjoyed how relaxing it was. We'd happily stay again.
