I only use them for work and though I've found the person who picks up the phone to be more polite than some of the other car services (red&white, blue & white)....they still suck. For some reason I find I have to call twice just for someone to pick up the phone. On the first try, the phone tends to ring till I give up. They're almost always super late, and seem to get lost easily For my personal use or if I had to be somewhere by Ia specific time, I wouldn't depend on them. However, given I'm using them for work..I guess I'll just take what I can get and be sure to practice patience when using their service. read more

I don't tend to second guess taxi drivers, but no one in their right mind would get on 35W to go to the airport (or anywhere else, if at all possible). I too wish I could give Rainbow Taxi a zero. Taxis should serve the purpose of getting you to and from places without hassle. Rainbow has yet to provide these services to myself or my clients. My work uses Rainbow Taxi, so I have to call them several times per week. Not only have I been hung up on consistently week to week, but they get lost more often than my senile grandmother. Airport and Town Taxi has always been much more helpful, and usually send vans if I have a larger party. Go with them instead. read more

I had a good experience with Rainbow Taxi. The driver was very patient when we called a cab to come to downtown Saint Paul during the Winter Carnival. It was very busy downtown and traffic was at a stand still in many spots. When we told him where we lived and then we said how he could get there, the driver actually knew of a faster and shorter route so ended up saving us money. The reason that I am giving four stars instead of five is that the dispatcher led the driver wrong and so he ended up on the other side of downtown from where we were located. However, the driver had our phone number and called us when he arrived so it wasn't too long before he was on the spot to pick us up. The driver definitely made up for this small issue though so I would call them again. Although this was my only experience with Rainbow Taxi, I recommended them much more over Saint Paul Yellow Taxi. read more

Well, fortunately I didn't ride in one, but had the "pleasure" of being threatened by a rainbow cab driver at a street light. First he honked at my car then pulled up by my side, rolled down his window and told me to pull over after which he proceeded to pull over to the curb. The driver was black, middle aged, had an accent and was Somali by my estimation. I decided not to find out what kind of weapon he had in his cab and how he wanted to unleash it on me so I drove away. Fortunately he didn't follow me. I am so disappointed in the service I have received recently from Rainbow Taxi. When I lived in Minneapolis I always used them and found them to be the best. Now that I am requiring taxis for faculty candidate at the U of M, I am discovering that their service is not as stellar as I once thought. Today, I called in advance asking for a taxi at the bldg I work in on the east bank of the U of M. I explained that it is not easy to find and referenced that it is close to Coffman Union, which is a good landmark for most taxi drivers. I was assured the taxi would be here. The driver called at the time our candidate was supposed to be picked up - he is on the wrong side of Washington Avenue, has no idea where to go, does not know Coffman Union, and asks me to give him directions! I call Rainbow to request a driver who knows campus who could get here fast - the candidate has a flight to catch! The first person I spoke with was very nice, then Will, the dispatcher, treated me with disdain, disrespect, and was blatantly hostile with me. He told me that I will get the driver I get and he will get there when he gets here - and then informed me that I was holding him up!! I suspect he would have hung up on me but I just asked for his name, told him to have a nice day - and immediately came to this site so I could share my experience. I sincerely hope this is not the norm. I will not be using Rainbow Taxi again and am going to share this with all of my colleagues at the U of M. read more

I had to get home from downtown. I called Blue and White but was concerned about the low rating. The scheduler said I would get a Rainbow cab in 3 min. Number 3269. He was easy to understand and efficient. Well the hospital has many doors and I had to call can confirm my door after waiting 20 minutes. I also got an estimate on how much it should cost at this time. But when the car arrived it was clean and Ethiopian driver was very polite. Hey Jeremy K I came back to the yelp app and saw that you asked me a question I myself don't use the app I've been dialing rainbows number 332-1615 for a couple of decades dispatchers answer they send me a cab after you merged with blue and white a machine answers send me a cab sometimes so now technically just call or drivers who I think might be close to me because I love my Rainbow family my doctor appointment got canceled that day I didn't get to go I haven't called through the computer since I just call guys. Avoid like the plague. I got into a cab downtown, gave my destination address and asked the driver if he knew where that was (I always do this because, with a few exceptions, Minneapolis cab drivers have zero street knowledge. They literally ask YOU for directions. Hey guys, sometimes people from out of town come here!). The driver mumbled yes, but he didn't seem sure so I asked if he would call a dispatcher to get directions. But he just started driving, saying that he had GPS, which he then took out of the glove compartment and fiddled with while driving. After several attempts, he seemed to have entered the address. WRONG! He took me to the wrong side of St Paul and then started asking me for directions! I had no idea where we were and he just sat there with the meter running. After asking him to call the dispatcher two more times, I finally yelled it at him. He called the dispatcher and misspells the street name 5 times. Really. I was headed to Wentworth Ave (he spelled it without a "t," then without an "o", etc). I then had to yell again to get him to give me the phone so I could spell Wentworth. He then tried to get on the highway and nearly slammed into a car coming from behind at speed. Eventually, he got me to the correct address, but the police had to be called because I refused to pay for the time we spend on the wrong side of St Paul and while he let the meter run as we got directions. He refused to give me my luggage from the trunk. Fortunately, the cop made him lower the fare and said he had no right to hold my property. Thank you Rainbow Taxi! Please hire folks who have a sense of the streets in the TC or enough sense to get directions when they don't. read more

I have been ill with a serious intestinal bacterial infection on Jan. 14, 2014, when I was desperate to get a ride to St. Mary's Hospital at Rochester. I have Congestive Heart Failure and numerous other health issues. I was hospitalized at Fairview Southdale Hospital from Jan. 10 to Jan. 13th and they infused me with too much IV fluid and I was in serious trouble with fluid overload. In my attempt to get to Rochester I searched for a taxi and I found Rainbow Taxi and my experience was a night-mare. The dispatcher quoted me $200.00, which was a 15% discount for Senior Citizens. He said I would get another five percent discount for cash. I did not agree to cash and expected to pay $200.00, which I confirmed before hanging up. I didn't know that this company was just dispatching to independent drivers. The person that came to my home drove an older van and it was extremely dirty. My goal was to get medical care at Mayo Clinic and I didn't have time or energy to do the reviews that I normally do. The driver did not ask me if I intended to pay cash until we got to Rochester. When I told him I agreed to pay by credit card he said I was lying and he wanted me to pay $283.00 or pay cash. After much disagreement he would not take me to the hospital and he stopped about a mile and a-half from the hospital. He called the police and told them I agreed to pay cash and now I refused to pay the fee. Two squad cars arrived and detained me for an hour and they treated me like a criminal. As a Senior Citizen who agreed to pay the contracted fee I was humiliated. The officers were young and not very experienced. I paid the $200.00 by credit card. They made me get out of the van without any assistance and asked me if I wanted to walk to the hospital or call another cab. I was barely able to exit the van without any help due to my illness. I have described most of my appalling experience with this taxi company. I would discourage anybody from using the service of this company. Very unreliable and dishonest. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I was supposed to be picked up for a pre-scheduled time of 12:30pm but the driver did not even show up until after 2pm. I missed a 1:30 appointment and the driver was incredibly rude to me and swearing at me when I told him that a driver was supposed to be here over an hour and a half ago. Management was also not very remorseful of the late appearance of the driver. I will never again use this company and will tell my many friends and family to boycott also. On 15 October, I called Rainbow Taxi to take me to the airport. In calling, I selected the cash/credit card line. The taxi arrived and the driver asked me if I knew how to get to the airport. I said "you don't know how to get to the airport?'. He then claimed he did but after Googling for the directions. When we got to the airport, I handed him my credit card which he handed back to me and demanded I pay in cash. After several demands for cash, I told him to accept the credit card or I would leave the cab. He grudgingly accepted my card. I was not going to sit in the cab to be bullied. Rainbow Taxi really needs to provide training in customer care for its drivers. Would think twice about using Rainbow Taxi. read more

Rainbow used to be one of the better companies in Minneapolis, but ever since Airport Taxi purchased Yellow they've surpassed them. In response to the first review, Minneapolis taxi commission suggests 35W as the standard route to the airport from downtown. It's faster although it runs about two and a half miles longer. I would only take Hiawatha during the 3:30 to 5:30 rush hour. read more
