I like to tour pet stores and look at animals in my free time and this place was unkempt to say the least. They have a good size ball python in the middle of the store in an enclosure that is far too small with poor husbandry. No place for it to hide so it say coiled right in the middle, practically filling the entire tank. I asked if the enclosure was permanent or temporary and was told it was temporary but that's hard to believe when they have a bundle deal for you to purchase the snake with the enclosure. A ball python of that size requires at least a 4x4x2 enclosure. read more

Vet says the live feeders we got most likely resulted in our 2 1/2 year old leopard gecko's death. Six months to a year ago I would have given them a five star review but I am finding it hard not to give them a one or two now ---so I will do an average. Starting in 2022, I had been concerned that the live insects we were getting weren't looking as good. The live insects I have bought since roughly February have started dying much sooner, like a few days after I pick them up I start finding dead ones. I also have noticed in the past when I would online order live bugs, instead of having the order ready to go, they had to get them from a large container where it appeared they were quite healthy.... In addition there was usually a little food inside as well. Now the live feeders are already in containers to go and sometimes have and sometimes do not have food in the container. I appreciate the speed with which they grab things but I would rather a healthy product Our leopard gecko was not eating, we took her to an exotic vet and after a thorough examination and plenty of discussion determined threat she likely had a parasite from the food. She died that same day --- the vet said most likely do to the added stress of the exam given how ill she was. The vet expressed there had been a change of ownership at Rainforest Pets from one family member to another. She also said there is a supply chain issue with getting live feeders so perhaps there had been a switch in the store's suppliers. All I know is I am going to terribly miss our gecko and it is hard not to feel it started with Rainforest Pets food supply. Sad read more

This place is great, not any other pet store like it thats close by. They have great quality feeder rats, mice, and bugs. I have bought two snakes from them, both of which had been surrendered by a previous owner. They have both been healthy and had no issues. We have bought several pets from Rainforest over the past years 10 years and have never been disappointed. This time was no different!!! We first went in and spoke to a young lady (not sure of her name) who was SUPER knowledgeable in the bio active terrarium for a leopard gecko, we were immediately sold on the idea. We spoke to the Manager this morning and by the time we came in this afternoon our tank was ready to go. Our daughter loves it and we are really happy with the way it turned out. I give 2 stars because the selection is good. However, this place is not clean and organized. They are all over the place on price.... Total rip off on feeder guppies and crickets. Clean the place. Put in new ceiling. New floor. Clearly mark prices. If you asked multiple employees what the cost is on something they will give you different prices. That's ridiculous. The owners daughter however is extremely knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with I wish she was the only employee that I had to interface with. I think she is the owners daughter anyway. I've been here about 4 times but my niece probably 50. She mentions this place on a weekly basis and her dream is to work here when she turns 16 cause she is so obsessed with animals and caring for them. The customer service here is great and I love that it's a local spot for us here in league city. They are located right outside my neighborhood. The animals are kept well and clean. I went here yesterday just to check it out--it was a typical pet shop nothing too special. When I walked in I wasn't greeted even though the manager or owner was sitting at the cashier in the front entrance. When I walked in it was two girls cuddling the kitties and when I looked down it was a black cat staring at me. WEIRD! I walked to the back of the store where the fishes were, and they were a lot of aquarium tanks. The fishes were $4.99 -- $16.99. Pretty pricey, but go figure. They had this one aquarium that was filled with the cast of Finding Nemo, I noticed Dorey first then Nemo and shrimp guy. It was so cool. Then after that I walked to the side wall and it was bird food, and a few dog items. They had more female dog dresses than male dog clothing. In the front the big spiders are behind the cashier. I didn't like the store and I won't be back. read more

Amazing staff, amazingly clean and beautiful facility! So much nicer than other individually run pet stores I've been to. I love that you can interact with the animals there, and that they have hand sanitizer everywhere around the store for that very reason. It's very warm and welcoming in that place, like a family instead of a business! The animals are well taken care of, they seem very happy and healthy. The staff is knowledgeable and sociable. Recent transplant to the area and needed a new 22" T5 10.0 UV bulb for for my dragon to replace the one that broke during the move. They had it in stock, unlike the big box pet stores that don't really cater to exotics. Really nice selection of feeders as well, much better than I was accustomed to at my old home. All of the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are on point. Definitely recommend this place. read more

I usually go in here and love every experience. Lately, however, the store is ALWAYS out of super worms. I have never had this issue before. Today when I went in I was especially irritated. I ordered superworms online and was told my order would be ready by 1:15. I drove about 30 minutes to get the worms just to get there and be told that I would get a text when they were back in stock. So instead of letting customers know that BEFORE they waste their gas and drive to the store, you guys just cost people money they shouldn't have to spend. Maybe before letting people drive so far, yall should let them know beforehand if they're going to have to wait for their order. read more

This place is extremely.... interesting... I feel like every time I walk in this place it looks different. I really do enjoy the black cat they have walking around the store (it's super friendly), but that's about the only thing that I like here. There have been several times I've come here and they're completely out of dubia roaches and super worms which is honestly crazy to me, but beside that the employees are always rude about it too..? Every time they're out of something I ask for it ALWAYS comes with an attitude which I really don't understand. They keep rabbits/small rodents in bins on the ground and sometimes they're just opened. I also came in one day and they had a bearded dragon priced at $400 and I almost fell over. They claimed she was their breeder dragon and that just rubbed me the wrong way completely. When I asked about her they had the attitude of "oh we're done with her so someone else can just have her now" instead of recognizing the dragon as a living being. I also hardly ever see food in any of the animals dishes in all of the times I've gone there. But the thing that upsets me the most about this place is the feeder mice.. I know this is an exotic pet store, but the feeder mice are literally out in the open and you can just see them all shoved into these tiny bins. I'm pretty sure the store wasn't like this before where you could see them out in the open, but you can now and it's truly disturbing. The last time I went there will definitely be the last time because I can't handle the rudeness of the employees PLUS the very clear neglect of animals that goes on here. read more

I've been coming here since I was a teenager and I love this store. They have a nice variety of different kinds of animals and fish and very nice prices. You can find different things here that aren't carried in a large chain store. It's a small space but packed with awesomeness. The owner, Dale, has always been helpful and answered many questions for me over the years. I visited yesterday and the guys there were also very helpful. The people posting negative reviews must be crazy. Plus according to their profiles they aren't even local. I've been coming here over 15 years and have always had a good experience each and every time I visit and have never had any issues with any animal I have purchased here. These people took my daughter's FFA bunnies that she worked hard on and advertised them as feeder rabbits. I turned to them to help find homes for them. I never would have left them there if I knew they were going to sell them as food. I gave them to them and they turned around and made a profit. It's very disturbing that people would be this cruel. My children were with me when we dropped them off. We made it very clear we wanted them to go to good homes. read more

We come here all the time to get cockroaches for our bearded dragon. Everybody is helpful and friendly. We walked in and asked if they carried the shampoo. The blonde haired man rudely looked at us and said "it's called rainforest pets..." a no would have sufficed. He paused and said "reptiles man." I purchased a chameleon and two bunnies from this store. Chameleon was told to be 4 months old, she was 8 months, pregnant... and had a vertebrae fracture. She was also housed with other females in one dirty giant cage which is not proper, and died. The two bunnies were housed in a dirty cage on the floor with 10 other bunnies, both of those bunnies ended up being sick. Store manager stated that she hadn't had any problems with any of her animals. They recommended me several things for the chameleon, all that were not correct for the animals. Just had a long conversation with the owner the other day about the store and I was very impressed. He is so personable! He is incredibly knowledgable, and shared that he is a former NASA biologist, and a Vietnam veteran! This store is a local mom and pop store that has been around for over 17 years now and we love it. We bought a very sweet cockatiel and a parakeet that have been our family pets for years now. He hatches out and hand feeds many of the birds himself to make them used to humans and improve their temperament! Any of these people who criticize them clearly don't understand what an older local shop is like. This place isn't a corporate chain like Petsmart which is what I love about it. read more
