I've been coming here for YEARS! I love family owned pet shops and this one is definitely my favorite. I knew the last owner before she sold to the current owners. The enclosures are always clean and so is the shop. The owners know me and my kids by name. They are so nice and helpful. I love that they have life feeders because most places don't now days. There is always something new to see in here. They have smaller parking lot but it's never crowded. read more

absolutely disgusting place. they don't take care of the fish or clean the tanks, I went last night and all of the tanks were full of DEAD fish. they didn't take them out they leave them there. I got 3 beautiful blue fish last night, come home set them up not even 8 hours later ones dead. DO NOT BUY FISH OR ANYTHING FROM HERE. I hope they shut down permanently they do not take care of any live animal in this store. please go somewhere else!!!! read more

I like getting my freshwater fish from local stores to avoid going to Petco or Petsmart. This store was so bad that I now shop at Petco/Petsmart. They had the poor fishes in disgusting tanks with 5 or more dead fishes floating around. Several fishes in different tanks had ICH. Ich is a parasite that attaches itself to the slime coat of a fish and eats it. If not treated properly, the fish will die. It was absolutely horrible, the place was so crowded with caged reptiles and birds. Please avoid going to that place! read more

If you have not checked this place out then you need to. It's pretty neat! They have a good selection of reptiles and mammals. The employees were very helpful and knowledgeable. We go to a lot of shops around the Houston area and this is by far one of the best ones I've been to. read more

I encountered this place at the New Orleans Herps expo. The gal that helped us was so sweet, friendly, and knowledgeable. Great customer service!!! I purchased a Red Saharan Uromastyx at the expo from Bay Area, and lemme tell you, HE IS A DREAM COME TRUE! I hear stories of most Uros being skittish, underweight, or otherwise unhappy upon coming to their new home. Not this boy!!! The Uro I got from Bay Area is incredibly friendly, tame, and healthy. He is eating, pooping, and basking like a champ, and is not only used to being handled, but seems to enjoy it. THANK YOU BAY AREA EXOTICS for providing outstanding service and animals that are clearly well cared for. My only regret is that y'all aren't actually located in New Orleans or I would be back all the time! read more

Hate to say this, but I will not be returning. Specific instructions had to be labeled on each enclosure to remind associates what kind of care each reptile needed. Example, the skink enclosure said, "Mist and crickets." Very strange to me that someone would hire an employee who has no prior knowledge caring for very basic reptiles. There was a leopard gecko who couldn't hold his head up and looked like he was on the verge of death. The chameleons were brown and looked dehydrated. Filthy enclosures. I was sold a rabbit and told she would be a companion for 10-12 years , she passed four hours later . t's my speculation that my bunny was sick , and there have been multiple speculation of this alleged (on here and google, I have multiple screenshots but they all are still visible currently) . I'm not a vet and can't say for certain what ailed jelly bean but what is certain is we paid 70$ To love on a bunny for four hours, spoil the little cutie to then have to dig a hole and bury her before the store closed for the day . This is my honest review and based on my experience, and subsequent lecture I cannot personally recommend this establishment, after posting a review on the Shops page my comments were taken down and the owner accused me of bashing their company , not once did they express concern for the animal I was sold , nor did they ever express condolences for her passing . please feel free to base your decision on how you'd proceed based on whichever review or reviews you feel are the most helpful however I urge you excercise extreme caution read more

Buyer beware: unlike almost all national chains, this place is not going to stand behind their live animals. I referred my step son's mother to this business... I like to support small business and was pretty pleased with the selection. However, less than a week after lovingly caring for his new bird it died. Bay Area Exotic Pets cited their "NO REFUNDS" policy - which I understand up to a point. This was less than a week. For a $162 bird. They did (after multiple messages) offer 50% off another bird. Not good enough in my opinion. You need to stand behind what you sell. read more

I hate to write a negative review, but considering this pet store is so close to my home, I want to like this place. I have a veiled chameleon, and I chose a while back not to go to the big box stores, due to the quality of their feeders (crickets, mealworms). So on at least 4 occasions now in the last month, I keep hitting the store when their delivery has not arrived. It makes me question how often they're getting deliveries, and if they're getting them twice a week, are they just not ordering enough product? Or does someone come in and buy 400 crickets in one purchase? Because for those of us who only need 30-50 at a time, you're lucky to get 20. I've been desperate enough to take their last 20, and some looked like they didn't have all their legs, or were getting close to dying. If you have chameleons and you're reading this, you know you want crickets that are healthy. They seemed to be better than the 2 "Pet" big box stores, but now, it makes me wonder. The hornworms are packed to where you have to buy 20 for $15.99, and I don't need 20. They don't carry silk or waxworms. So it's crickets or nothing. And if they don't have crickets, then it's nothing. Bottom line is, don't run out of feeders, or order more! Every reptile in that store and those that belong to owners like myself, use crickets as a staple in the diet. I don't want to start buying in bulk just to never run out of food for my cham. I have found another pet store, in League City, and it's worth the trip to go over there to get all kinds of worms, food for the worms, and the crickets. They never have told me they are out and to come back on delivery day! I live in La Porte, but to travel 35 minutes to League City for feeders for my chameleon is what I will be doing in the future. read more

I really like the convenience of this store, the prices, and selection. I've had awesome service provided by the female staff. The only thing that makes me mark it down to 4 stars is that the young man working (always hanging around the fish) is really rude sometimes. It always seems like he thinks he's smarter than you, or talks down to you. Just not the best attitude for customer service. read more

The store inventory seems huge, with many pet items I just don't run across in most pet stores. A family member also purchased a small hedgehog there; he is doing well 2 years later. My latest visit was to have my guinea pig boar find another boar to bond with, since his previous friend died. Connie had 2 boars, and let me have my GP spend time with each, to find the best match. The guinea pig is sweet, well-nourished, clean, in good health. My GP and the new one are now best friends, even perhaps getting along better than the one who had died (it was adopted elsewhere, with little known about his age or health). I just find this a great place to visit, a great place to shop, whether for a pet or for supplies. read more
