Just coming on here to jump on the bashing banquet, because I believe every single one of these negative reviews are true. Closing on a house while traveling, I've tried to reach these guys for days. They have a sketchy automated voicemail that all calls are transferred to, and then they text you immediately after directing you to book (and pay) online. Once I finally did get ahold of someone, I asked him why I was only getting texts, and how it could be that a nation wide service was unavailable to talk and simultaneously "out of town" while also being everywhere inn all 50 states. I just wanted to make sure before putting my sensitive personal information out there, not to mention my credit card and bank info, that it's going to be handled appropriately and not sold or stolen, or lord knows what else. I explained my apprehension, especially given all the really worrying and inappropriate business behavior that I had experienced in connecting with them already. He just got upset and told me I should look at the business on Yelp, and I am so glad I did, because, wow!! Super sketchy!! Coming here to leave a warning to anyone who might try to use this bunk service, but Oooooh. My bad. Looks like everybody and their dog already beat me to it though. Rai's Mobile Notary charged me an exorbitant fee of $750 for a notarization of mortgage closing documents. I originally made an appointment for tomorrow. I had to change from tomorrow at noon to today at 3 PM due to issues with when the documents needed to be signed and Rai's said that was fine. I appreciated that (and that's the only reason I chose two stars instead of one); however, then the notary was an hour late. The documents needed to be scanned and then overnighted. Rai's knew that but then they said they could not scan them after all. They said it was because they didn't know about the urgency regarding the time--but it wouldn't have been an issue if the notary was on time. The notary was good (besides being so late) but Rai's didn't seem to care that they are ripping people off and providing inadequate service. I called to speak to the manager Randy about this and I was told by someone named Dominque that he would call me back but he never did. My two texts about it were not returned. I read some of his responses to reviews as well. He is clearly unprofessional/unethical and attacks people personally. Just wow. read more

If I could give no stars - I would. Sent someone out and didn't tell them it was to witness transfer if a car title. She'd never witnessed a title transfer and had no idea what she was doing. What should have taken ten minutes took over an hour. When I contacted Rai's, they claimed it was a rural area. City information - population over 8k, 100% urban, 0% rural. It is NOT rural. There was a Starbucks right next to the McDonald's parking lot we were in. (Canonsburg, PA) for anyone wanting to verify city info) When I asked how they could send someone who didnt know what they were doing, he replied, "Please understand my position before taking it out on me. We are a nationwide agency and we contract notaries everywhere throughout all of United States. As a human being i can't control millions of notaries that i personally don't know." So I asked if he was telling me they have no vetting process. His reply, "How could you in 50 states" If I could post screenshots of the texts I would. If I could give absolutely no stars to this company I would - this is the worst company I've ever in my life worked with. I have never written a yelp review in my life. I called this notary place due to an emergency for my boss. I didn't have a choice as no other notary place was calling me back in Sedona when he was traveling so I had to pick them despite their bad reviews and their horrible customer service /responses to the yelp reviews. We had an appointment at 1:30 and they called to let me know they were going to show up at 2:30 so I said no thank you as my boss had a meeting. My boss is very busy and did not have time to wait. They told me they would only refund us the $150 and keep the other $100 as 'the guy was already en route' LOL an hour later and that's my fault?!?! There was absolutely no professionalism, as the man one the phone acted very unprofessional saying "hey jake!". No introduction of himself or his business, and I was a little unsure if it was legit. I really loved how easy he was to reach and how friendly he was from beginning to end! He's a little pricier than some other mobile/after-hours notaries but for us it turned out better anyway since the people we tried to reach weren't answering or responding but he did and headed over within an hour. That was great since we sort of made a last minute decision and needed it done asap. It's definitely a plus that he can text, and he kept us posted when he was on his way and nearby, etc. We enjoyed the conversation when he got there too but if you're in a hurry just give him a heads up, as he's very social and chatty :P another detail that WE didn't mind at all but some people might--he comes in very casual attire. So if you need a professional look/demeanor he seems super friendly and receptive and I'm sure if you mentioned a need for a more business-like aura, I get the sense he'd be more than willing to provide. I was closing on a home equity line of credit a few weeks ago, so I contacted Rai's Mobile Notary. Rai got back to me quickly, and the notary he sent out (who was neither Rai nor the stock photo woman who apparently serves as the company mascot) was very professional, punctual, and got the job done. Five stars. But wait, why is this a 2-star review? Read on... When I first contacted Rai, he assured me the cost would be a $40 travel fee plus $10 per signature. There were 5 pages to be notarized, so I was expecting an invoice for $90. I received an invoice for $95, with no explanation as to the difference. Not really a big deal...I used to run a small business and I know there's overhead involved in accepting credit card payments, but I would always itemize the invoice so the customer knows exactly what they are paying for. Minus one star for opaque billing practices. When the notary arrived, we realized some of the pages to be notarized had more than one signature, so there were actually 8 signatures instead of 5. Fair enough. The notary said I could pay her the $30 in cash or Rai could send me an invoice, so I elected to receive the invoice. No mention of any additional fees. Later that day, I get an invoice for $35. I thought to myself: "Self, there must be some kind of mistake. There's no way this guy pays $5 in overhead (16%!) for a $30 invoice." So I contacted Rai. To his credit, he got back to me quickly, and he told me the extra $5 was for credit card fees. Nice try, but he uses Square Invoices, and they charge a flat 2.75% fee, which comes out to 82.5 cents on $30. Next he tries to tell me that they charge him additional fees to withdraw the money. If this is true, he must have the worst bank ever. So I offer to send a $30 check instead, which he accepts. Minus one star for even more opaque billing practices. This is a Friday, and I tell him that I will have the check sent out from my online banking account, and it probably won't be mailed until Monday so he can expect it to arrive sometime the following week. Early the following week, I start getting texts and voice mail messages asking me where his check is. I'm not sure why he felt the need to do this, and the texts and messages eventually stopped so I assume he received the check. I suppose I should consider myself lucky he didn't send a bounty hunter to collect his $30 balance. Minus one star for lack of customer respect. In conclusion, the notary Rai sent out did the job well, but I will not use this company again and I will warn others away. There are too many other highly rated mobile notaries in the area to tolerate these types of business practices. EDIT: The fact that Rai just offered me a $5 bribe to remove my review only serves to reinforce my opinion of this company's shady business practices. I wonder how many other poor reviews have been removed after the customer accepted a bribe. Note that it is against Yelp's Content Guidelines to offer money in exchange for removing a review. EDIT: To clarify the business owner's last comment: a refund of the credit card fees, an apology, and a pledge to both better explain fees to customers up front and itemize fees on invoices would go a long way toward rebuilding my faith in this business. But I can't accept any refund offer that is contingent on me removing my review. EDIT (9/20): The business owner sent me a $25 gift card, so that's something, but he did not commit to being more transparent with his billing practices, and he kept pestering me with texts wanting to know when I received the gift card so I would change my review. I'm reluctantly adding a star because Rai did eventually follow through with some compensation, and I agreed to remove my 2 star review when that compensation was received -- it has been replaced by a 3 star review. EDIT (12/29): It gets worse. It turns out Rai's notary didn't notarize one of the pages correctly, so we had to have that page notarized again. I texted Rai about this on Dec 11 and he offered to compensate me with gift cards, since I would need to spend another $40 to have Rai's mistake fixed. Still no gift cards, hence my review is now 1 star. UPDATE (1/16): I followed up with Rai to see when he would be sending the gift cards he promised. He responded by telling me not to text him anymore and that he would contact his attorney on Monday and file a police report for harassment. read more
