I was closing on a home equity line of credit a few weeks ago, so I contacted Rai's Mobile Notary. Rai got back to me quickly, and the notary he sent out (who was neither Rai nor the stock photo woman who apparently serves as the company mascot) was very professional, punctual, and got the job done. Five stars. But wait, why is this a 2-star review? Read on... When I first contacted Rai, he assured me the cost would be a $40 travel fee plus $10 per signature. There were 5 pages to be notarized, so I was expecting an invoice for $90. I received an invoice for $95, with no explanation as to the difference. Not really a big deal...I used to run a small business and I know there's overhead involved in accepting credit card payments, but I would always itemize the invoice so the customer knows exactly what they are paying for. Minus one star for opaque billing practices. When the notary arrived, we realized some of the pages to be notarized had more than one signature, so there were actually 8 signatures instead of 5. Fair enough. The notary said I could pay her the $30 in cash or Rai could send me an invoice, so I elected to receive the invoice. No mention of any additional fees. Later that day, I get an invoice for $35. I thought to myself: "Self, there must be some kind of mistake. There's no way this guy pays $5 in overhead (16%!) for a $30 invoice." So I contacted Rai. To his credit, he got back to me quickly, and he told me the extra $5 was for credit card fees. Nice try, but he uses Square Invoices, and they charge a flat 2.75% fee, which comes out to 82.5 cents on $30. Next he tries to tell me that they charge him additional fees to withdraw the money. If this is true, he must have the worst bank ever. So I offer to send a $30 check instead, which he accepts. Minus one star for even more opaque billing practices. This is a Friday, and I tell him that I will have the check sent out from my online banking account, and it probably won't be mailed until Monday so he can expect it to arrive sometime the following week. Early the following week, I start getting texts and voice mail messages asking me where his check is. I'm not sure why he felt the need to do this, and the texts and messages eventually stopped so I assume he received the check. I suppose I should consider myself lucky he didn't send a bounty hunter to collect his $30 balance. Minus one star for lack of customer respect. In conclusion, the notary Rai sent out did the job well, but I will not use this company again and I will warn others away. There are too many other highly rated mobile notaries in the area to tolerate these types of business practices. EDIT: The fact that Rai just offered me a $5 bribe to remove my review only serves to reinforce my opinion of this company's shady business practices. I wonder how many other poor reviews have been removed after the customer accepted a bribe. Note that it is against Yelp's Content Guidelines to offer money in exchange for removing a review. EDIT: To clarify the business owner's last comment: a refund of the credit card fees, an apology, and a pledge to both better explain fees to customers up front and itemize fees on invoices would go a long way toward rebuilding my faith in this business. But I can't accept any refund offer that is contingent on me removing my review. EDIT (9/20): The business owner sent me a $25 gift card, so that's something, but he did not commit to being more transparent with his billing practices, and he kept pestering me with texts wanting to know when I received the gift card so I would change my review. I'm reluctantly adding a star because Rai did eventually follow through with some compensation, and I agreed to remove my 2 star review when that compensation was received -- it has been replaced by a 3 star review. EDIT (12/29): It gets worse. It turns out Rai's notary didn't notarize one of the pages correctly, so we had to have that page notarized again. I texted Rai about this on Dec 11 and he offered to compensate me with gift cards, since I would need to spend another $40 to have Rai's mistake fixed. Still no gift cards, hence my review is now 1 star. UPDATE (1/16): I followed up with Rai to see when he would be sending the gift cards he promised. He responded by telling me not to text him anymore and that he would contact his attorney on Monday and file a police report for harassment. read more

We were ripped off! Requested a notary to have come at 8:30. The notary came and we did 2 signatures. Then he asked if we recieved a quote, we told him no, they just said you will arrive. The only person we talked to was the notary. He told us we were supposed to of recieved a quote first. So he emailed the company. Then we got a text to call the 800#. Called and a man who didnt give his name asked to give card over phone. Asked if what the charge is first before giving our card #, he said $250.00!!!! Told him if it was going to be that much we wouldn't of went with their services. But the service was done already and had no choice to pay. We wont use this company anymore. We went with the company because they service our area. read more

My boyfriend realized at 8:00pm on a Saturday night that he was required to have three notarized documents for his law enforcement application. Application was due by 12:00am the next morning. I quickly yelped "mobile notary" and called Rai's Mobile Notary. He quickly agreed to meet up even though I totally interrupted his fun Saturday night. Very friendly and fast service. We were in Anaheim and had to get something notarized last minute on a Sunday of a three day weekend. We called and met with Randy and we had a great experience. All the other 24/7 notary services I had called the night before either didn't answer or had nobody that could meet with me anytime soon. I understood that late at night on a Sunday is a big request, but Rai's was the only service willing to provide me with availability and meeting times. Randy was very personable and a pleasure to work with. Mobile Notaries are usually what you have to deal with when you need a notary last minute and after normal business hours. I thought Rai's Notary was well worth the price just based on the customer service I received alone. Why does it seem like I always need a notary at the last minute? I needed an urgent letter to be notarized and could not wait until Monday. There were only 2 notaries open on a Sunday in my area, and Randy was the first to call me back. I called him at around 9 AM and by 10:15 I was in his office signing documents. I was quite impressed with the speed and efficiency of his operation. However, now that I've checked out other traveling notary services, I find his charge was unconscionable. I call to have an active donation ( didn't know that is what it was at the time) notarized, even went to so far as to tell this person the reason I needed it done. Stating that my father was sick and in the hospital, also told the person that my father was on medication for his pain. She started that was find, the papers could still notarized. When the notary arrived she star thar they knew she would not be able to complete the notarization because of my fathers inebriated state do to his medicatio. Not only that, when we needed a follow-up document notarized he took care of it at no charge, and mailed the original to the mortgage company for us as well. TERRIBLE customer service. I engaged them via their chat button (on their website), and *I* had to hold for a rep (in the middle of a very busy workday), so I continued doing my work while checking back & forth to see if they'd answered. At some point I go back and they had terminated the chat, stating that they had not received an answer from me. So I start another session, same thing happens (they sent an answer which I didn't see because I was trying to do MY work, which I'm sure is unimportant to them), I came back to see a terminated chat. So the third time I connect, I tell them I've contacted them twice to ask a simple question and that both times they've considered it okay to have *me* wait until they answer but they feel entitled to leave ME on hold for however long they please... a Britney typed "we'll be right with you" and within SECONDS of that she terminated the chat. If this is how you treat your customers, I will be damn glad in not becoming one and recommending people AGAINST choosing your notary services. Rude and beyond unprofessional. Randy at Rai's is a total rip off ! I needed a simple release notarized. I asked him how much to come to my house and he said 70$. I said I will just drive to your office instead. Then he still demanded 70$ in cash after the 5 minutes of work. Sign behind his desk said 10$ state required rate for walk-ins signatures. I think he may have actually broke the state law ? So...this guy walks into my Mom's adult care facility room....sweaty & out of breath, his face was covered in white goo ....sunscreen? I don't know. He was supposed to be doing a medical power of attorney. Once he found out my mother was paraplegic he flipped & walked out of the room. I could hear him talking about how it was an inconvenience & was going to take an hour & that he had somewhere to be. He also said that instead of $60, it was now going to be $200! I went out to tell him because of her Multiple sclerosis I have been signing for her for 36 years. But he stormed out all butt-hurt that his quick 60 bucks wasn't going to happen. Sure it wasn't what he thought but he didn't consider all we have been through in trying to get this paperwork done, instead he just pussied out! He was very inattentive. One of my biggest peeves is being on the phone during a "Business" transaction. He answered the phone at least four times to take other appointments in the middle of our meeting. Very nice guy but should be more courteous about his phone usage. The appointment wasn't very long, that's what voicemail is for. read more
