So now I can carry produce and compete with all those elderly Chinese women with their flimsy pink bags. Oh yes, that last Chinese eggplant is MINE, old lady! I actually come here for the produce I never see at Safeway or even Whole Foods like Romanesco zucchini. Y'know, the big gray-green ones with the prominent ribbing and nutty taste. No inappropriate jokes please. I also come here to get at least a couple of bunches of Chinese long beans and those silky-firm white peaches. I have to say I have no problem filling up my Halal Guys bag with fresh goodies because the vendors here always have quality produce (see my photo gallery). It's worth coming just for the free samples but expect to get an elbow in the face from the more aggressive cheapskates. Nothing is ever free, is it? The market fits snugly into the ground floor of the Crocker Galleria every Thursday from 11AM to 3PM (plus Tuesdays during the summer). Come early if you want your pick of the freshest produce, but get your stinking hands off my Romanesco zucchini. That's mine!

Especially love the baby lettuces, kale, and the general variety of greens in each box. The carrots are sweeter, the radishes more flavorful and crisp, and the baby beets are more delicious than anything you'd find at your local grocer. There are usually some fun surprises in there like lemon cucumbers, agretti, and Hakurei "Tokyo" turnips that you don't easily find elsewhere. It's a great deal considering everything you're getting... much better deal than Whole Foods and you can save yourself a trip to the store.

Very personable and always delivers with care. They have also always been super flexible regarding travel and holding deliveries, easy just to email or text your requirements. In mid-July 2024, they made an announcement that they were shifting their focus to prepared foods with an option for a preset produce box.I missed it. One day, our veggies just never showed up. I called, texted, emailed. None of the contact info was active and their website went down. I was sad & a little worried. It was just weird how everything stopped all at once. I ended up prepaying for the month of May as their April was apparently booked? Anyway. They have a pretty slick website to select produce and other items, if you don't want just a pre-made farm box like some other companies do. Just a word to the wise (who is not me): be sure to read the website for their policies. They offer no refunds, you can't truly cancel in the sense that the month you prepaid will not be reimbursed, and the biggest gripe I have is that it's on a "credit" instead of dollar system, so you don't truly know how much money you're paying for a specific item until you get past your pre-set credits (different amounts based on the size of your box). The quality of the produce itself was good, albeit smaller amounts than I've been getting at other local farms (I found other places during the month I was delayed from joining here). My other word of caution is to ensure that you know all the policies around your delivery, its time, and any quirks there. The delivery location I used ended up closing on my delivery day, so the produce was hidden behind bushes. I had no idea until it was too late and my produce was inedible. Inedible produce was neither credited nor refunded. By now, I had decided to cancel anyway, but ended up "eating" (so to speak) the cost of my ruined produce and the following week's. So, that's $56 I won't see again. Anyway, just make sure to inform yourself before committing.

They have a few food vendors too, including Sonder Cafe, which is what originally brought me here a year or so ago. Always a fun sunday activity! Parking in the area can be a bit tough and you might have to circle the blocks a few times or end up parking a little further away, but with so many great stands at the market and shops on Clement street it's worth it.

Not some dinky plastic hummus full of lackluster "eh" ingredients - but a hearty solid jar full of spicy organic ingredients that tickled my tongue with pure excellence. Hummus is everywhere now. It's an excellent, easy, and accessible source of vegetarian protein. And it's so easy to play around with. Spice it up. Garlic it up. Tang it up. Sweeten it up. But with the wealth of hummus on the market - I've found that very few hummus concoctions actually taste authentic and great. And some hummus producers add ickiness into what is fundamentally a very basic recipe. I don't want to see any canola oil in my hummus. I don't want to see any preservatives. I just want simple garbanzo beans, tahini, garlic, and olive oil. The Love and Hummus Co get this and go the extra step by making sure that all of their ingredients are simple and organic. Thank you. And perhaps one of the best parts of supporting The Love & Hummus is that you get to take away a wonderful well made jar with you - perfect for transporting leftovers and other yumminess. They're the only hummus that I'll pick up at Whole Foods now and I'll make the extra trip to Whole Foods - (when I can't get over to Royal Market - which truly does make the best hummus in San Francisco) just for some heavenly healthy hummus. I had a sampling of their creamy, spicy garbanzo bean blend during SF Beer Week when the new Upper Haight Whole Foods opened their parking lot to a horde of organic beer lovers and friends of all thing local and organic, and that's where I ran into the vivacious young woman behind the Love & Hummus operation. I'm a frequent visitor to two different farmer's markets in my neighborhood, and there's always someone with a tub of hummus slinging their product and guaranteeing it's the best you'll find in town. While I've certainly walked away from said farmer's markets with a plastic container of hummus in tow, Love & Hummus floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee, dropping a jaw-shattering right hook to the rest of the competition. In short, this savory blend of organic beans and tahini is the truth, son! After sampling, there was no possible way I could walk away without bringing some home with me. You can find Love & Hummus at most Whole Foods locations in SF, and you'd be a fool not to swoop some when/if you come across it.

These Nicaraguan tamales deliver! Minimalist stand with minimal selection at the Monday Fremot Plaza Farmers Market. Normally I'd be skeptical of a $5 tamale, but since it's organic it is totally worth the price premium! Pork Tamale: Super tender, easily my favorite. The fat from the slow cooked pork shoulder added some nice flavor to the corn dough. Liked the fact that they used mint leaves, but the cooked leaves were definitely not as a potent as fresh. The raisins added a nice sweet element to contrast all the savory. I am on the fence about the boiled potatoes, they added a nice texture contrast but they take up valuable space that could have been pork. Chicken Tamale: Identical to the pork except with large chunks of mostly white meat chicken. It seemed the consistency of rotisserie rather than stewed. Tasty, especially with lots of hot sauce, but the pork is still better. Vegetable Tamale: Don't bother if you eat meat. The stewed squash takes center stage while the corn dough is rather dry and dull. There just isn't any fatty goodness to melt away from the mediocre gourd. Hot Sauce: Be sure to ask for this and get extra! It's more than just pepper and vinegar, I suspect there is a butt load of garlic. Really helps liven up the mundane masa!
