Well this place ALWAYS has a crazy long line for good reason! This particular Saturday we figured we could walk around instead of waiting hee. It took us about 15 mins to order and then we got 2 Yuzu Matcha and my Lychee Matcha drink. Then we went to this Japanese market and by the time we went back, our drinks weee done! Hee. Both drinks were perfectly mixed with Matcha and use lemonade was delicious and perfect for quenching your thirst! The lychee Matcha was rather tasty as well, but a little too sweet for me and I favored the Yuzu lemonade more. I will definitely be back AGAIN to try more of their drinks!!
I was craving matcha early morning after dropping someone off from the SFO airport and I stumbled upon this place. The inside was very modern. Service was okay. You just order through the self kiosk and wait for your order to be called. The staff were very quick and attentive. I ordered the matcha brûlée and was very delicious. First time trying a matcha brûlée and it was a good experience. Overall I give this matcha spot a solid 4/5 star review. I will definitely be back and also will be recommending this place to friends and family!
Izumi Matcha- 180 E 3rd Ave Izumi Matcha is one of my kids' favorite match spots in San Bruno! Their go-to drink is the matcha strawberry, and it never disappoints. Ordering is easy with either the self-service kiosk or a cashier, and they accept both credit cards and cash. Service is quick and efficient, making it the perfect place to grab a drink on the go. Keep in mind that there is no seating area, so it's strictly a grab-and-go spot. If you're craving a refreshing matcha drinks without a long wait, this is a great choice. Our family definitely recommends Izumi matcha for a quick and delicious matcha drinks!
There was a line of people waiting for their drinks which can be confusing since it's leading to the kiosk. I had to literally ask people down the line if they're in line to order haha. There is no contact with the staff. You can see them making the drinks and it looks like they got their system down pat. Some pre made Creme Brulee Matcha Swirl cups to make drinks faster. They call your name and you just grab your order. I swear it's like people forget their simple manners when it's like this - no excuse me, no thank yous, etc. I digress... I ordered the Strawberry Yuzu Matcha Tea because it looked pretty in the picture. But, to my disappointment, my actual drink did not look at all like the picture. It's like one of those trends... "what i ordered" vs "what i got". You'll see in my pictures haha. Honestly, with the long lines and the mediocre matcha drink, I don't understand the hype. All because it's "premium matcha"? Anyone can self acclaim that. Berkeley has better matcha cafes, IMO.

Because the store lacks warmth in the design, there's no menu, no signs, no chairs or tables. It's like a weirdly hollow storefront. The strawberry matcha latte was okay. The strawberry was sweet and fruity. The matcha was alright, kinda light tasting but also bitter. A lot of ice. The matcha soft serve was pretty good. Very smooth and creamy. Good flavor overall. I want to see them do well bc the cupertino location is good, but this one needs work..

I came on a Saturday afternoon and it was already pretty busy. They have two tablets for you to self serve towards the back of the space. It's a little confusing because the area where you wait for your drinks and where the line to order is the same, so make sure you're standing in the right spot. I wish they had online order though! I ordered the classic honey matcha latte, iced, with oat milk and I loved it! It was just the right amount of sweetness and the matcha flavor was really strong. I'm also really impressed by how large the drink is. Drinks are getting pretty expensive these days and there's usually an upcharge for a large, but their regular size is already more than enough. So excited to come back and try more!
Located in Downtown San Mateo, we decided to grab some matcha here after having lunch nearby on a Saturday afternoon. There was a line, but once we ordered on the kiosk it didn't take long to receive our drinks. My order: Strawberry Yuzu Matcha w/Double Matcha Shot, Less Sweet, 50% Ice: $7.75 +Aesthetically pleasing: w/beautiful layers of strawberry puree, yuzu, and matcha +Cup & straw were durable -There's no upcharge for an additional matcha shot, which was nice. However, the matcha was light in flavor. If I hadn't known, I wouldn't have guessed that there was extra matcha added. -Less Sweet isn't recommended, which surprised me because IT WAS SO SWEET. The strawberry added some tartness, but I couldn't taste the yuzu -No option for no ice: I requested Light Ice, and it was still a lot of ice. As it melted, it diluted the already light matcha. Side notes: 1.) Self-serve napkins and straws 2.) No seating available, so it's a to-go spot 3.) Walking distance from San Mateo Caltrain station *Verdict: 2.5 stars rounded down to 2 d/t price. It was a struggle to finish my drink, but my dining companion had no complaints so if you prefer sweeter drinks that are lighter on the matcha this may be your cup of tea. If I was in the area, I would return to try their soft serve though.
Marukyu Koyamaen matcha being served! I was recommended this place by a friend and wow! They do sell MK tins for a really decent price! We came on a Saturday afternoon and there were a lot of people waiting in line. I will say, the way the place is organized can use some work because when you open the doors, you feel like everyone that's waiting for their drinks are actually waiting in line. Their order kiosk is to the way right side of the wall while their bar is directly in the front when you open the doors. Drink: Strawberry Matcha (7.8/10): I love that they offer double shot of matchas FOR FREE!! I opted for the double shot (obviously) and it was very strong. I did wish that the strawberry flavor was more prominent and was more evenly balanced between the drink.

Can't change sugar levels and beware it's VERY sweet Cheese mousse matcha: my current go to! I get default everything Honey matcha latte: solid but I prefer the cheese mousse matcha
There was a 5 minute wait during the Memorial Weekend on a Monday evening around 6pm. They have two self serve kiosks to order from at the corner of the restaurant. People tend to wait along the wall so be mindful that the line may not be as long as it looks. We ordered the creme brulee matcha swirl. I don't believe there was any option to customize sweetness. As for the drink itself, it was noticeably bitter and grassy from the matcha but paired well with the sweetness and creaminess of the creme brulee. There are chunks of creme brulee in nearly every sip. Really tasty and it's a pretty hefty drink - good to share between two. It's definitely on the thicker side when you drink it at first, but I did enjoy it a bit more once it was more melted. Due to the heaviness, I'd recommend this as an after meal treat instead of something I'd get in between meals.
Matcha is everywhere now, and I do mean every-where! So this is another matcha place, close to work so my coworkers come here often. Their fresh dragonfruit juice is also good, I get that too sometimes. Surprisingly fast, and the match here is not watery and is good quality.
I got the crème brûlée matcha and it was very good, but a little thick for my liking. You definitely have to mix the drink a little bit before consuming. The matcha soft serve was delicious and a nice sweet treat for a warm day. The ordering process was quick and easy as there are two kiosks to place your order on. The drinks and soft serve totaled to be about $16 which is pretty average for both items in the Bay Area.

Consistent quality! I ordered the honey matcha latte with oat milk, double shot of matcha. Perfect amount of sweetness and matcha. Ambience was clean, neat, spacious. Service was quick! No lines, has double self-ordering kiosk. Definitely helps me going throughout the day. read more
Great drinks like the original location, but such a strange..... store vibe. You walk in and the entire store is empty. At first glance, I wasn't sure if it was even open or not. The display case is virtually empty and the kiosks are located all the way on the right side of the store, down a long hallway. After reading other reviews and seeing how packed they get on the weekends, I guess it makes sense for the layout? Quality of drinks was still great though! However, the customer service could really use a lot of work. Staff didn't greet anyone (or respond when I said hello) upon walking in, despite the store being empty. Saw two other guys also standing confused for a few minutes before they realized where the kiosks were. I think the staff definitely could've helped them or guided them to the kiosks, since clearly it seems to be a common confusion but it seemed like she got a kick out of it instead. There was another girl that seemed like she was training, but she did great making the drink! read more

really good matcha! i ordered the strawberry matcha and the matcha was deep and rich, and the strawberry puree was really fresh and tasty, which is usually unexpected for boba places. i usually expect there to be some sort of artificially jammy tasting strawberry syrup at the bottom, but this one tasted like real strawberries and minimal sugar added! really good quality matcha as well. the store itself is pretty freaky and the ipad you order on tries to talk to you so beware. read more
I was excited to try this place based on the reviews, but unfortunately the matcha did not meet my expectations. The drink had a noticeably bitter taste and wasn't well balanced. It also felt quite powdery, as if the matcha wasn't fully dissolved, which affected the overall texture and drinking experience. The shop itself is clean and modern, and the staff were friendly. However, when matcha is the main focus, the quality of the drink is what matters most. For the price, I was expecting a smoother, richer, and more refined matcha experience. I may give it another try in the future, but this visit was disappointing. read more
My favorite place to get matcha!!! So happy they opened a new location in San Mateo because my husband and I used to drive all the way to Cupertino (40mins+ each way) at least once or twice a month to go to Izumi! The Cupertino location is always packed too! Since the San Mateo location opened, we've probably been here more than five times already! Our favorite go-to drink is the creme brûlée matcha tornado! Before trying this, I was getting the strawberry matcha, regular matcha with an extra free shot, matcha latte with an extra shot, honey matcha latte, and pretty much trying the different options on the menu. One of my coworkers actually recommended I try the creme brûlée matcha tornado. Since then, it has been my go-to drink for over a year now. My husband is not big on sweet drinks but he loves that one too! The creme brûlée matcha tornado is delicious! It is like a frozen smoothie with a silky creme brûlée custard texture with a slight bitter notes of Japanese green tea. It is well-balanced, and not too sweet either! Unfortunately, it is not a drink that can last long. It cannot be out for more than 15minutes without melting or put in the freezer as it changes the texture making it just a frozen drink. Personally, the Cupertino location still tastes better because the matcha in the creme brûlée matcha tornado is stronger. This one tastes more milky but still good! The store is located at a corner with lots of metered parking in downtown San Mateo. It has a chill vibe with background music, nice interior, matcha tin boxes on display, but not a place to sit in (just like the Cupertino location). Customers order through their kiosk machines and the workers will call out your names when your order is ready. When the line is not long, drinks will be ready within minutes. We recently came back from Japan a few months ago and honestly thought Izumi's matcha was better than most of the famous matcha places we went to in Tokyo and Kyoto. Even the newest 'best rated' Tokyo matcha spot that opened less than a year ago in Shibuya were tied with Izumi in my opinion. In fact, the matcha latte there tasted like Izumi's creme brûlée matcha tornado without being frozen. That is how good this place is. Overall, so happy my favorite matcha spot opened very close to home! We will be back regularly and will not need to drive so far for Izumi. I have already recommended family and friends to come here to ensure they thrive in their business! Note: Each creme brûlée matcha cost $8.75 but so worth it! read more

Was excited when this location opened up in North Bay. The line is so confusing... the self-serve kiosk is in a corner with the line leading towards the door, but that's also where people wait to pick up their drinks. Even though there were quite a few people on a Friday in the afternoon, service was quick. No where to sit inside but there's a bench right outside. -Creme Brulee Matcha Swirl: on the sweeter side, blended cream with the matcha make it a unique take on a traditional matcha latte. -Strawberry Matcha Latte: refreshing and they use fresh strawberry puree. only thing is it's very strawberry forward so it didn't balance with the matcha as well. Still a solid place to grab matcha in San Mateo! read more
Was near the area and had bookmarked this place as I wanted a soft-serve Matcha cup. I looked at the photos which sold me because the Matcha drinks and combos looked enticing. I found it at the end of the block on 3rd Ave after passing up Teaspoon which is a Milk Tea/Boba place mid-block. Izumi has a modern interior, lots of space to wait for your order and the Kiosks for ordering are at the right side of the store as you enter. Didn't see a cashier when I walked in and saw just 3 people by the Kiosks. Ordering on the screen is pretty straightforward and you can also speak to it to find a drink. You can select the order, type your name on the keyboard then wait along the window/wall for your name to be called. A lady next to me was asking me why she couldn't place the order of the Hojicha Sesame Latte and I told her because it was showing "Sold Out" below the drink on the screen. Then she realized that's why she couldn't add it. It may have been a little hard to read because of the afternoon sun shining by the window which is where the Kiosks are located. She was bummed because she said it was one of her favorites and I think she said she had it in Redwood City & remembered how good it was. I told her I hope she'd find something else. My order came out within 4 minutes so it wasn't so bad. Now I have a soft-serve Matcha place to go when I'm in the area! It was delicious and had a dusting of Matcha on top. I had to eat it fast as it was melting as the sun was beating down and 79º. I want to try the Matcha-Lychee or the Matcha-Strawberry Iced Lattes next time. read more
The matcha creme brûlée is hands down my favorite drink here.The creme brûlée part really has a strong matcha flavor. The strawberry yuzu matcha is a little on the sweet side but still had a strong matcha taste, would probably get it without the strawberry next time. The shop is pretty bare, no seating whatsoever and you order at the self service kiosk. read more

First time trying Izumi Matcha and going into the place, I was confused where the line was or how to order until another customer told me where to order. Going to this location you go in and turn to the right, there will be two tablets where you can order from. The wait was not long, I ordered the creme brûlée matcha drink. The drink was delicious, highly recommend trying it out. read more
This is one of those "hyped" matcha spot but I predict that they won't survive for too long. My rationales: 1/ They sell matcha so I ordered their matcha ice cream. Costed me $6 for a small cup. Tasted decent for an American matcha ice cream, a little too much creamy/sweet and not enough earthy bitterness--incomparable to the authentic matcha ice cream in Japan. 2/ The self-service kiosks (they only have two for such a big shop) enabled customers to order through AI voice assistant. The two Asian ladies in front of me took at least 10 min to navigate and place orders with their heavy accent so it was a clunky experience ordering with AI. Why make self service so complicated?? 3/ There was absolutely no signage or guidance on where to go and stand. It's ok when the shop isn't busy with crowd. But imagine there are 20+ customers walking in, looking for the ordering system, finding a spot to wait for orders... it'd be a nightmare. 4/ Plenty of empty space, but no tables no seats. They seem to discourage customers to linger inside the stop. I get it. But if they charge me $6 for a small ice cream, I expect to stay inside with AC and enjoy my ice cream for 10min, instead of standing in the sun with melting ice cream. Izumi Matcha management team: take my feedback or leave it. Honestly I am not interested in going back to your shop again. read more

Matcha is amazing! We got the Crème brûlée matcha swirl and matcha with cheese mousse. Both were very delicious. I tried the honey matcha and I wasn't a fan of it. Watered down quickly and didn't taste like matcha. Service is ok? Just go up to the kiosk which there can be a long line for. During the week, there was one kiosk. Weekends, there is two kiosks. There's no seating area and place looks pretty empty as if they just moved there. read more
Hmmm, I've never had Izumi Matcha before but I've seen enough TikTok videos of people hyping up the creme brûlée matcha drink to know I need to give it a try. The new spot is across the street from Paris Baguette and it's interesting because there's decent amount of space inside but no tables or chairs to sit at so it's more of a take it and go kind of vibe. A few benches outside along the street are available. They have tablets off to the far inside for you to order so don't mistake their counters for ordering, it's strictly for orders to be picked up. I opted for their creme brûlée matcha drink and I thought it was okay, but I wasn't really impressed and there were clumps of cream or matcha in it that threw me off. The modern finishes inside gives it a "don't touch me I'm sterile" kind of vibe as there's not much interaction to be had with the workers except when they call out your name for your order. Overall, I'm interested to come back and try something else but I'm not in a hurry either. read more

Matcha was delicious, store was empty and quiet , they could work on customer service/ connection. I greeted the workers and said thank you as i grabbed my drink , and it was completely ignored both times. As other people walked in they had no type of acknowledgment towards customers. read more
Great new matcha spot in downtown San Mateo! I was really excited to try the crème brûlée matcha swirl they're known for, but when I visited on Wednesday at 11:20 AM, it was already sold out. Instead, I ordered the classic matcha latte and the cheese mousse matcha, and both were delicious. I loved the strength of the matcha flavor. Some places make it too light, but this one had the perfect balance. There is no seating available, so it is more of a grab and go spot, but the space itself is very open and clean. I do wish they added some seating along the sides. Parking is convenient with street parking and a garage right next to the building. It can get very crowded during peak hours, especially on weekends, so it is best to plan ahead. read more
Super busy, but they were quite efficient. Friendly service overall. It was easy to order at the kiosk, though we did have to wait in line, which moved fairly quickly. I ordered the creme brûlée matcha, which was more sweet and creamy than matcha forward. I usually prefer drinks that are less sweet with a stronger tea flavor. I wish there was an option to adjust the sweetness, as I think that would make a big difference. Perhaps one of their matcha lattes or other matcha drinks would have a stronger tea taste. I think it is still worth trying if you enjoy sweeter drinks or are looking for more dessert style flavors. I would not recommend the creme brûlée matcha if you are hoping for a strong matcha taste. I guess you could say this place was not quite my cup of tea haha, but it is still worth checking out for yourself. read more
Quick take: Yes, matcha spot! So happy we have an Izumi Matcha in Downtown San Mateo! Walked by the shop after dinner and they were open! Two self serve ordering pads. Orders come out fast. I was super excited to try this place out, but I think I may have ordered the wrong drink. I didn't want anything super sweet so I ordered the matcha latte with cheese foam. Initially the drink was good, but after I got through 25% of it, all I i could taste was watered down matcha. This made me sad because I use the same matcha that they use when I make mine at home, so it was a tad disappointing. Next time I come back, I think i'll try my go-to which is a strawberry matcha latte. My other complaint is that there isn't anywhere to sit inside and enjoy your drink. I think patrons would enjoy this place more if they can sit down and chat with their friends while sipping matcha. read more

best matcha soft serve in the area! you place order at one of the two kiosks and wait for your name to be called. They now have a special flavor for swirl (currently it's sesame). the wait can be long on weekends. They are closed on Tuesdays. read more
Soft opening? We just passed by and noticed a bunch of people inside. There's no menu up yet but their official sign has been installed. There are two kiosks to order right now and the menu looks similar to the one in Cupertino but they don't have the Hojicha or Sesame variants just yet. I ordered the honey matcha latte with a double shot of matcha (no extra charge right now!). The drink was certainly matcha forward but there were some very fine grains that I could taste. I also wished it was a tad more creamy, it felt a little watery for a latte. Boyfriend got the yuzu matcha and the yuzu definitely masked the matcha almost completely but the drink was pretty refreshing! Also tried my friend's matcha soft serve and the matcha flavor was smooth and the soft serve was creamy. Drinks are about $8 so it's a little more pricy than other tea drinks in San Mateo but if you're looking for matcha specifically, then I think Izumi will win out. read more

my boyfriend does not like super bitter or unsweetened matcha, the creme brulee matcha was a huge hit for him!! we both enjoy this drink so so much. im craving it as im writing this review. this location doesnt have any seating and you mainly just order with a kiosk. read more

I was so happy to hear that an Izumi Matcha opened a location near my work! I got the Creme Brulee Swirl, which is my typical order at the San Jose store, and it was just as good as I remember it. But it's pretty sweet (you can't adjust the sweetness level) and heavy on the stomach so I would recommend either coming with an empty stomach or sharing with somebody LOL. Since it was a soft opening, there's no menu up yet and is just a counter and 2 tablets to place your order. After ordering, I got my drink within a few minutes so A+ for service. I'm excited to add this to my list of places to go for my weekly match runs! read more

Found my new go to matcha spot! I don't typically like strawberry matcha, yet I've heard great things about the one here, so I had to try it. I ordered the Strawberry Matcha with oat milk, half sweet, and it was delicious! The strawberry wasn't too overpowering, which made it a perfect blend with the matcha. The matcha wasn't too milky, and you could really taste the matcha! I do wish they had an almond or soy milk option, though. Regardless, solid matcha for $8. read more
The newest Izumi matcha store has opened in downtown San Mateo. Although it's not a particularly large store, it is a comfortable size. The high ceiling gives it an airy feel, but it can get a bit noisy with people talking. While there is no seating available, you can stand inside to enjoy your drink. This location features two touch screens for ordering, compared to just one at the Cupertino store. A notable advantage of this new store is the significantly shorter waiting time. I ordered a Strawberry Matcha Double Shot, and it was prepared quickly. The taste was just as good as at the Cupertino location, not overly sweet and quite satisfying. Now, I don't have to drive far to enjoy my favorite matcha. read more

I really enjoyed my matcha here! I ordered the creme brulee matcha which comes in a cool swirling pattern. I thought the creme brulee would be too sweet, but it actually complemented the bitterness of the matcha nicely. The one quip I had about this was that it was a little bit on the icy side. Otherwise, the line moves fast here despite it being crowded, and the matcha flavor was great! There's not much ambiance as it feels like an empty glass box, but I'm sure they're still settling in. I got the crème brûlée matcha swirl to try, and it was very good! I was a little skeptical because I usually stick with my regular matcha latte with oat milk, but I'm glad I tried something different. The drink was rich, thick, and very flavorful with just the right touch of sweetness. I shared it with my son, and even my husband, who normally doesn't like matcha, tried it and said he thought it was pretty good. I'd honestly compare it to an ice cream because of how creamy and indulgent it was. I'd definitely visit again if I'm in the area. They also sell tins of matcha powder if you're interested in making your own at home. Street parking is available, and there's also a parking structure nearby. The drink was a bit pricey at almost $9, but I understand that it reflects the quality of matcha they use.
