As an A Christmas Story fan I was happy to see the location decked out in themes from the movie. The restaurant itself was well done and spacious. Staff were friendly and kept the line moving quickly. One staff never even asked if our food was okay- something you don't normally see at fast food places. I ordered the three finger combo and it was excellent! Texas toast was standard but toasted well, fries were nice and crispy, and the chicken itself was slightly crunchy and very juicy. I will say that the star of the show was the Cane's sauce. It was super peppery but also had a nice flavor to it. This was coupled with a super sweet but tasty sweet tea. Wow! Wish we had Raising Cane's franchise locations in NY state, especially in the Capital District. First of all, the quality of the fingers is FAR superior to other fast food places. Real strips of white chicken breast are coated lightly and fried crispy. The chicken is moist and delicious! In my opinion, these fingers are healthier than most commercial fingers. Second, most of us loved the signature sauce. However, my granddaughter thought barbeque should be available. Actually, the fingers are so good that they are delicious with OR without the sauce. I was so excited to try Cane's, since I had heard such good things about them from all my Midwest coworkers. I was driving through Johnston and in need of a quick dinner so my son and I decided to stop by. Now, I made the mistake of getting in the drive-thru and probably should have gone inside. But as everyone knows, once one car joins in behind you, you are totally stucks in the drive-thru. Now the line was long, but it still looked manageable, like it didn't extend outside of the main drive-thru area. Wrong. It took well over 45 minutes to make it through that drive-thru. Raising Cane's is a chicken fast food restaurant and they focus on the chicken part. It is all chicken tender based with a mix of basket sizes or a sandwich option. All the tenders are the same with two sauce options (honey mustard or the signature cane sauce). The tenders were good, with a light and buttery breading. If you want or need a wider variety of dinner options though you may want to consider elsewhere. With the chicken, crinkle cut french fries on the side of the day. I am not normally a fan of crinkle cut fries but these were warm, crispy and well salted. Last but not least is if you get the combo box you will get coleslaw. After hearing how traffic on Atwood Ave was backed up for hours over grand opening week, we were excited to give this place a try. As luck would have it, we happened to be driving past the area today and saw there was no line, so we went through the drive through. We placed our order at 10:55am and had our food by 11:05. Having no familiarity or experience with this chain restaurant I didn't know what to expect. I ordered the Box Combo with a sweet tea for myself and the Caniac (pronounced like Maniac but with a C) Combo with a lemonade for my kids to share. The tenders were hot and juicy, the fries were thin crinkle cut and salty, the toast had a sourdough taste with a hot dog bun texture, and the coleslaw was dixie cut and crunchy. The Caine's sauce tasted like ketchup, mayo, Worcestershire, garlic salt, and black pepper all mixed together which gave it a tangy bite but it's not something that I would probably want again. They also make their own honey mustard sauce, so I'll probably try that the next time. The sweet tea and the lemonade were great, and they actually weren't too sweet at all, which I really enjoyed. I don't have any complaints but will say that Raising Cane's is *probably not* worth the hype it's experiencing now, and the long lines are simply because this chain restaurant in new to Rhode Island. However, since it's in the same realm as Popeye's or Chick-fil-A I'm sure it will continue to be popular as the novelty winds down. They only offer 4 meal options with the only difference being how many tenders you're getting - so once you've tried one of them, you know what to expect. You can trade your coleslaw for extra fries or a second toast (these 3 menu items are interchangeable) which is great, because not many people like coleslaw! Service was also very nice. Restaurant is busy because they just open and very helpful. ambience of the restaurant. I was hungry but not HUNGRY, and my appetite is usually small. The kid combo size was just right for me. The sign states "12 years and under", and I was wary if they would be let me order it. So glad the cashier smiled and said "of course!" She was so friendly! Bill was just over $10 Chicken was tender and crunchy, but no flavor--coating was similar to salt free Ritz crackers. I think this would be great for children. Crinkle fries were ok - inconsistent crunchy/ soggy but had salt. Texas toast was basically a New England hot dog roll grilled with butter and garlic salt. The dipping sauce appeared to be watered down ranch dressing mixed with paprika. Leaving the parking lot was a little odd. Now, when it comes to Cane's, I've heard the same narrative from a lot of people, where they mention that the chicken is mediocre, but the sauce helps a lot. This too was my perspective of the food. I had their chicken box which came with three chicken strips, fries, the roll, and coleslaw. The chicken was crispy, hot, and tender, but the sauce it really what makes it but event then, I did not love it. The roll was good; it was soft, crispy on the outside, and buttery. I am not the biggest fan of crinkle cut fries, these were okay but I do think they could use more salt and the sauce helped. The cole slaw was good. I do very much enjoy their outdoor seating set up as it's really nice, and the fact that there's a ton of parking since it's in a plaza. Well, here we are...Raising Cain's has arrived in RI to much fanfare (everyone heard about the 6 hour waiting time on opening day that tied up traffic on Atwood Ave, Central Ave & Hartford Ave as well as Rt 6 & Rt 295 on opening day). I waited until the middle of the following week to attempt to walk in & order as lines had died for drive thru AND dine in. It is a bit loud; but that can be expected in a busy fast food restaurant. The menu is SIMPLE, which is good as you don't have people standing at counter wasting time deciding what they want to order... * Tenders: the most juicy I've encountered in fast food so far. * Cain's Sauce: right amount of spice & tasty * Fries: simple crinkle cut * Texas Toast-didn't make an impression on me * Cole Slaw-a very good representation (I LOVE a good slaw) *Soft Drinks-serve yourself & ice is more of a shaved ice than cubes...Coke products & iced tea/sweet tea options (drink station can get a bit backed up if it is busy as there is only on machine) Have not tried drive thru yet to see about wait in line to order time to driving away. They do have order ahead option on their app; but in trying to accomplish this once for my scheduled break at work (au work across the parking lot) didn't allow for order/pick up in time to meet the timed constraints of my break; but it is still early in their being open timeline, will try that again in a couple of weeks.
