Came here to get a late lunch and our way to doing errands. Food Spicy chicken sandwich is phenomenal of course. Fried catfish was delicious of course Fried shrimp was of course the bomb. Fries were really hot just out of the fryer! cannot evaluate the inside since the drive-thru was the only thing available during the pandemic. The workers during this pandemic did a really good job with fielding customers through the drive-thru by the time we ended up leaving the line had gone all the way into the street and these guys were working really hard to make sure everybody got their food hot and ready when our food came out it was steaming hot. I love Popeye's spicy fried chicken! I don't eat it often, but to me it far surpasses all the other chicken drive thru chains. Unlike other states where there are numerous chain chicken fast food places, (KFC, Churches, Bojangles,etc) Popeye's is the only fast food chicken drive thru in Rhode Island OTHER than KFC. Popeye's are mostly stand alone, and I believe there are 6 franchises in RI overall. Most are new or have been remodeled. They offer fried chicken - both mild and spicy. The spicy is not too spicy, but adds a nice kick. They offer chicken tenders, fried shrimp and keep adding to the menu. My favorite location is in Johnston, on Hartford Ave. It's a stand alone and clean and relatively new. The cashiers are friendly, attentive and make suggestions if you are not sure what you want. I usually order 1 spicy breast and 2 spicy chicken wings - all come with a hot southern biscuit (you can ask for butter or honey), and if I get a side, it is red beans and rice. The fried chicken breast is decent sized and crispy, but wings are kind of small - but both have a pleasant spicy taste. The red beans and rice is my favorite side, but they are all southern style - this is not KFC. Green beans, Cajun dirty rice, mac and cheese, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, Cajun fries.... most are pretty good. You can't think about the calories here - or at any fried chicken place - so enjoy!! read more

The only positive thing I can say is that the young man at the counter was very friendly and courteous. My wife ordered the 2 piece combo and I ordered the 3 piece combo. Not only was the size o f the chicken very smal in both the 2 and 3 piece the price for the 2 combos came to $24.82 for a total of 5 smal pieces of chicken (wings counted as a piece; where's the chicken) and 2 small sides and 2 small drinks. On top of that the food wasn't even hot or warm. Needless to say I will not be returning to that or any other popeyes in the near future. At minimum the food should have been hot and not sitting in an infrared lamp for who knows how long. There are many better choices for $25. read more

This local franchise did not measure up as the chicken was not good quality and the fries were cold and not to a full amount. Its discouraging to see this new franchise not living up to its brand. I been to other locations and chains, this by far has been the best, A nice crunch and good flavor makes for a pleasant bite, not oily. I got mild, spicy was a little bit too much for me. I am not a heat tolerant diner. I was offered to try the hot, a boneless sample. It was flavorful the heat really finished the bite. Fries where good, not greasy. The buttery, flaky biscuits, a nice surprise were delicious. Last time got the mashed potatoes and gravy. They were OK, but fries were a better choice for me. Very clean, was greeted pleasantly and service was polite and prompt. There is one of those soda machine which offer almost endless choices. I have never tried it but everyone who was looked happy. I live on the closer to the smith street location but I decided to go the Hartford ave location instead. Never knew I'd regret it. I never ever had a problem when ordering from this Popeyes. I waited in the drive thru for roughly 20 minutes because there was a line. That didn't bother me because I know that it's a popular restaurant. The person who took my order was extremely nice and respectful but the person who cooked my food was careless. I ordered a popcorn shrimp combo which is the only thing I ever order when I go here. So when I got to the window, it was "ready". and like I've previously mentioned, I never had a problem with their food before so I didnt open they box to check until I got home. I was disgusted. I couldn't even finish eating the food because majority of it was covered with uncooked batter and the shrimp was undercooked. I guess they rushed my food out because of the long line and fast food workers are timed so if the food isn't out at a certain time, it effects them. If they actually cared they could have asked me to pull over and wait or come inside. I was so disappointed. If I had checked before I left the drive thru line, I would've went back inside for a refund or asked them to remake it! If I didn't live 15 minutes away from the restaurant I would've went back as soon as I Saw it. So instead, I looked at the back of the receipt and did the survey to voice what happened. So I've never been to a Popeyes but it was past dinner time and we noticed one had just popped up near us. The place was clean. Squeaky clean. We could have eaten off the floor. The cashier was super friendly. Our food came out quick and hot. I had chicken tenders the spicy ones. They were all white meat chicken and damn they were hot which I love! The biscuit got a bad rap on previous reviews so maybe they have new ones. Mine was buttery and salty and crispy. I ate my dads too. The macaroni and cheese was unremarkable. A bit soggy and tasted like the boxed Kraft version .my dad said his wings were good and put kfcs to shame. He also had popcorn shrimp which I do not eat but he loved it. So I do have to say the only thing that surprised me was the price. I am thinking it's kind of a fast food type place so 24$ for two dinners seems kind of steep. My wife ordered a combo box with 11 chicken tenders, six biscuits and three large sides at the drive-through Sunday afternoon, to feed a group of people who were moving. Since I had to drive and eat at the same time, I could not eat any sides, but the chicken tenders were awful in taste, texture and smell. So much better than KFC ever will be. This location is very very clean. People are extremely friendly, which is rare these days. We got 3 dinners for 21 and change. Pretty decent. this is a new location for them.this used to be a wendys. i went thru the drive thru and got the chicken strips meal and mac and cheese.the chicken strips were pretty good better than KFC down the street.i also like there fries better (even though they were little mushy) than kfc wedges.the mac and cheese was bland much better at kfc as well as the bisquit. ill have to try the normal chicken as thats the real test and see how it compares to kfc. read more
