If I could leave zero stars, I would. Every single person I interacted with in this office should not work in healthcare. They lack professionalism and compassion, and they seem to have an overall disdain for their patients. I came in for some knee pain, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]Dr. Patel saw me for all of 3 minutes to discuss my MRI report. He seemed to be exasperated with my questions, and spoke to me in a condescending tone throughout the entire visit.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He recommended a PRP injection, and when I asked for a quote, a nurse said it would be around $2,000. When I called back to confirm the cost before making an appointment, I was told by someone in his office over the phone that the cost would be $8,500. My appointment with Dr. Rajan Patel was one of the most unprofessional medical experiences I have ever had. The visit felt rushed from the moment it began. The entire appointment lasted roughly ten minutes, and it was clear he was trying to get out of the room as quickly as possible. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Every question I asked was met with visible irritation. Dr. Patel was curt, condescending, and rude throughout my last appointment with him. On my first visit, with the most cursory of examinations, he diagnosed my knee pain as arthritis.He recommended physical therapy, as well as an x-ray, and administered a shot of cortisone. My knee grew worse. I was forced to go to Urgent Care where I received a brace and an MRI, two things Dr. Patel ought to have prescribed on my first visit. I then presented his office with further insurance approvals - which they accepted - only to have them cancel my next appointment on the day before. They screwed up royally, then claimed it was "my" fault! Whether Dr. Patel's bad attitude was motivated by my argument with his staff, or my getting the MRI he should have requested, I do not know. However, he said he would put in another insurance request for more physical therapy and an additional procedure. Well, it's now been several months and I haven't heard from my insurance provider one way or the other.It certainly appears his office did not put in that request when he said they would, and that, my friends, ain't cool at all. read more

Dr. Patel is just great. Aside from being a brilliant and excellent doctor he makes you feel like he really cares about you personally. I believe he does in fact care for each of his patients. I always have a lot of questions for him and he answers each one of my questions until I am satisfied. I just had my right knee totally replaced about six weeks ago and I am doing very well. We just scheduled my surgery for totally replacing my left knee. I have very little anxiety about the upcoming surgery based upon the results of the right knee replacement. I had a complex meniscus tear in the left knee. Did not want surgery but the knee was incredibly painful. Dr Patel ordered an MRI. Reviewed the results with me and performed a 30 minute procedure in an out patient facitlty. Was home the same day and after the procedure was in less pain than before it. Dr. Patel and Nurse who helped on 10/26 didn't get her name where both very Courteous and caring about the situation I was having with no blood wanting to come out for the PRP shot. As much as I told them they could continue to try they didn't want to keep hurting me and poking me. They did an amazing job trying and also keeping my feelings in their minds. Front desk ladies also very kind and friendly it feels welcoming when the ladies greet you at the front desk. Always a great feeling when walking into a stressful appointment but everyone is super kind and aware of how you may be feeling that day. Keep up the amazing work! Oh also Dr. Patel is super helpful always explains your situation if you don't know what's happening. He has asked me twice if I understand both times I had little to no knowledge on my knee problems and he simply went and grabbed the little knee model and explained with the model and made sure I was more understanding. The only negative I can say is how long it takes to get an appointment if it's not the eval/initial appointment which they see you right away but besides that everything is good so I must give a 5 star! read more

Dr. Patel himself, seems to know what he's doing, however his staff, especially BILLING ,and the office manager Nikki, are completely USELESS. Every document that they submitted to my insurance had the wrong information, (codes, state, insurance to bill to, and practically everything else one can think of). THEY HAVE ZERO COMPETENCE IN REGARDS TO BILLING!! Because of this, my insurance is giving me a hard time about refunding the money that I paid to the office. Please be aware, they are NOT honest people. I strongly recommend using another facility, you'll will be better off, I guarantee it. Dr. Patel did a fine job with my consultation after my knee injury and I like that he did not first suggest surgery but rather extensive physical therapy. However, part of being a good doctor is having a great and competent staff. There are plenty of other competent sports medicine specialists in Los Angeles and I recommend you visit one of them instead. No one returns my call if I leave a voicemail. When I do speak on the phone with someone as I have several times they give me incomplete information and the documents they promise to send me are NEVER sent. I know office staff is very busy, but I have been calm and understanding with them while issues that should take minutes, take weeks to resolve and I have still not gotten the information I need to submit to my insurance company. I've read the other reviews and I agree that Dr. Patel may be really talented and he's a nice guy, but my experience was different. This is not a comment on his actual talent, but on how he handled my particular situation. I was limping and barely able to walk, so I saw Dr. Patel in 2008 about a problem with my hip. He said I might need a hip replacement but that it might be good start with a less invasive procedure, a hip arthroscopy. He also suggested I do an MRI just to be sure. So I had the MRI and arthroscopy using a doctor he highly recommended. I did physical therapy diligently for about 9 months, and followed up at home. I was led to believe (by the physical therapist, not Dr. Patel) that if I only worked harder at the PT that my hip would get better. So I worked harder and followed up diligently at home. Truth be told, I needed a total hip replacement, and I'm convinced that I needed it from the beginning. My confidence in Dr. Patel started to unwind when I was asking him questions about the hip replacement surgery I had scheduled with him and he told me to "look on his web site." The links on the web site were broken, and I told him so in an email, and he just responded that everything I needed to know was on his web site. That didn't sit right with me, so I started to shop around for doctors. I found Dr. Dorr, who took a look at my xray, saw me walk, and asked if I was in pain and said, "You need a hip replacement!" The entire transaction was like 90 seconds. He could tell right away from my xray that I needed the surgery. So why didn't Dr. Patel know that a year ago? Then Dr. Dorr said, "Looks from this Xray like your right hip is going to need to be replaced in a couple of years, too." Sure enough, 2 years later I was having my other hip replaced. So why didn't Dr. Patel know what Dr. Dorr did by just looking at the xray? Why did I need an MRI? And why not just be forthright with me that I really needed a hip replacement and that the arthroscopy wouldn't work very well because my hip was too far gone? Dr. Patel is a lovely person, so I hate to do this, and I have really wondered whether I should write this review or not, but last week I realized I've been stewing about this for 3 years now, so it's time for me to be forthright about my particular situation in case it helps someone else. read more

Where does one begin when you have nothing but high praises for your surgeon and his staff? First, his assistant Christine. Warm, professional and efficient. The doctor himself, well Dr Patel has never been anything less than kind, thorough and caring as well as extremely skilled. To give you an idea of who he is as a person, I was having an unrelated outpatient procedure at Cedars and while I was in the waiting room, Dr Patel saw me as he was making his rounds. He took the time to not only say hello but to reassure me I was in great hands with the doctor I was having an upper GI tumor removal from. That tells me who Dr Patel is as a person. As a surgeon, I won't see anyone else for my knees. It's now time to have partial replacements (he's kept me walking against odds for a few years without the surgeries). He performed an ACL replacement on me a decade ago after another surgeon placed a defective ACL in. My recovery time with Dr Patel was minimal compared to the prior surgeon, his bedside manner is thoughtful, informative and I never feel rushed or dismissed (I've experienced this with other specialists in my past).
