Today is the Fourth of July- definitely a high traffic day for a beach destination, especially for ice cream and ices since it's so hot. Our server was surprised my husband ordered the banana cream pie shake, telling him that nobody had ever ordered that one before. He liked it just fine. I picked key lime ice. They didn't have it. I picked graham cracker. They didn't have it. I pick a third, they didn't have it. I pick a 4th - frozen solid and unscoopable. Finally a fifth choice, and the girl says surprisedly We have that! and makes my very tasty twister. So moral of the story is if you know it will be busy, stock up your supplies, and don't admit to the customer that the stock they ordered may be antique. Really tasty though. read more

I just ordered a quart of my favorite ice from the nearby Ralph's Italian Ice shop for the first time. I was very disappointed when I got back to my house and opened the container to find a loosely packed container of ice. After pushing it down to see how much ice I got, I found that it only filled just over half of the container. A quart is not a suggested amount. It is a unit of measurement. When you order a quart of anything from anywhere you should get a quart. Lightly packing the pints, quarts or party buckets is robbery. read more

They let you sample the flavors if you need to before making your monumental decision. Some days I was in town, I must confess, I went there in the afternoon and again in the evening. I tried a few different flavors since they let you choose more than one. I liked all that I tried. The consistency of the ices are just right. I have yet to find an italian ices spot in Manhattan that has as many flavors as you do. Every time I go to Long Beach, I must stop for a treat!! This time around I got the strawberry margarita and it was delicious. They have soooo many different varieties and flavors, meaning they have creme ices, water ices, ice cream, and smoothies. (Sorry if I'm missing one but you get the idea) Now with such a big menu to choose from, you would hope that they allow you to sample right? Well.....they do!!!! They are very generous with the portions so choose your size wisely! I always go for a kids or a small depending on my mood for the day, but any bigger than that I would not be able to finish alone. There is space for parking.....but not too many spots available. Ralph's Famous Ices specializes in water and cream ices with many branches throughout Long Island and all the boroughs except - rudely enough - in the one I call home (Manhattan). This branch, next door to the Beach Bagel & Deli, is the first one I've had the pleasure of visiting. For $3, I got two scoops of lemon water ice, one scoop of watermelon water ice, and a scoop of pina colada cream ice. Both the lemon and watermelon water ices were great. Strong flavor but not too sweet. Soft enough to eat it with a spoon but not melty/syrupy in any way. Very refreshing on a hot day. But the pina colada was the star of the three I tried. Intense flavor and bits of coconut and pineapple included in the mix. Fantastic. I had a taste of my friend's chocolate cream ice. It had a nice chocolate flavor but less creamy/heavy than ice cream. Exactly as it states: as good as it gets! Chunks of bing cherries in the red cherry ices........my favorite is cherry and lemon together :) ......I just honestly love every flavor.........I haven't had the cream ones or the ice cream so I can't say personally but I'm sure they are as good as the water ices read more

As good as Italian ices get, but I don't understand the people who orgasm over it. At the end of the day it's just Italian ice. When you go in the summer expect a line, and be willing to try something other than ices- all of their cold desserts are second to none. read more

Let's start with number 1.......I would consider this place to be so called "famous" if they had all their flavors on the god damn menu in all the time. See I tried to apply for a job, I waited there at 10 in the morning for the boss yet nobody ever showed and lets just say it was down pouring and way out of my time. Amazing! I don't think I've had real Italian ice until we came to Ralph's this past weekend. So many different flavors to choose from! I had two different flavors - passion fruit and strawberry margarita. The passion fruit was tart and paired well with the sweetness of the strawberry margarita, which also had a light hint of lime. There is by far no customer service. The girl that served us has an attitude and isn't aware of what a SUGAR CONE was lol. Most of the flavors on the board are never in stock. The prices for an average cup of soft serve should be illegal. There is no reason for a price like that with Tutti Frutti right next door that was better and cheaper. Came here reluctantly since I do not love sweets. I was very impressed with the cappuccino flavored ice. Good size, and good price. The lines are long because the service is very slow. I think it's part of the allure, but as far as ices go, and they don't go very far, Ralph's is good. read more

The best ices around! I got the Twister with vanilla ice cream and bubble gum ice, it was the perfect thing after a long day at the beach. It was super busy when I was there around 3:30pm on Sunday and there was only 1 girl working, I felt bad for her as the line just kept growing. I like the vanilla soft serve. Service is SLOOOW. They often run out of vanilla soft serve or sugar cones -- pretty stupid considering this is an ice cream joint in a beach town. There is no seating it is just a take out window. a weird thing is that the store is a long space and they put the ice cream waaay at the back so the servers have to take a long walk back and forth to get your order. it is stupid and slows everything down. they should have the ice cream machine at the front near where they take the orders. it is just so inefficient and stupidly thought out. And the servers are certainly in no rush. I hate that they don't take debit cards. Who goes to the beach with a ton of cash? Cash only. PS: there is one in the city in the Baruch College area.
