horrible meat and poultry. there have been at least three occasions in the last six months that I've gone to and I've bought chicken or pork and I've brought it home and I've opened it before the sale by date and it's already bad spoiled. Absolutely unacceptable behavior at Ralph's today. At 12:40 PM in the bakery section, I witnessed an employee named Karen aggressively waving her hands saying "we don't need you!" and harassing another Hispanic employee -- with what looked like racist intent. I usually find the brands I want at good prices, after the coupons. There are a few exceptional employees who always make the experience great. One of these is Judy, who I ran into on my way out. It seems a little weird to write a Yelp review about a grocery store, but Ralphs has gotten so much right that I simply feel compelled to. First, let's talk about this impressive Murray's Cheese Shop inside Ralphs Fresh Fare. Not only do they have everything, but they have tasted all of their cheeses and make specific recommendations based on what you describe. In the before times (pre-Covid), they would even let you taste whatever you'd like before purchasing. Obviously Covid interferes with this, but their recommendations are still spot on. The cheese experts also have a knack for recommending the right crackers and toppings for each cheese. A recent recommendation was a specific blue cheese on a flat cracker, with a generous drizzle of Mike's Hot Honey. This is a pairing I would not have come up with on my own, but it's a regular snack in our household now! Second, I'd be remiss if I didn't praise them for their excellent online order fulfillment. It's so easy for me to add items to my cart through their app. There is a space for me to write any notes (such as with respect to selection of produce or substitutions), and they have done a great job following those instructions. Then I check out and show up at the appointed time, and they load my bags into my trunk, hassle-free and contact-free! It's the best. read more

Whenever I'm looking for quality meats, I come to this Ralphs grocery store for the products they carry, and the clean feel I get from shopping at this particular Ralphs. Not all Ralphs are built the same, as this one caters to the folks living in La Canada, Flintridge, at the foothill of the Angeles National Forrest. On this day, I was reminded Mother's Day is coming around, and most likely we will not be able to celebrate at a restaurant that we've done for the past 30 plus years. So this year, I'm planning on a BBQ at home, and considering Prime Rib, Filet Mignon or another great piece of meat for BBQ. I have shopped at many Ralphs / Safeways over the years, and this location provides a good experience. A few reasons why: 1. Ample parking in their (free) parking lot) 2. Friendly and helpful staff 3. (Usually) well-stocked with all the basic food and supply items you need 4. Mid-level pricing; its not cheap, but its less expensive then alternatives 5. Generally well-maintained and clean 6. It's located in a shopping center near a gas station and other businesses, so it's easy to get groceries and complete other errands all in close proximity Perhaps one of my biggest positives is that the lines don't get too long. It's always a bummer to have to wait after getting your groceries, yet the staff do a good job of getting people checked out quickly. I appreciate that. read more

This is a nice Ralphs; the customer service is wonderful. I hope the team is commended for keeping a good attitude, especially when it gets busy. You are all appreciated. Sometimes they have certain items out of stock, but it is still worth the visit. It is also appreciated that their restroom does not have a code, it makes it easier for the shopping experience. What I REALLY like about this Ralphs is that they have a Redbox. What I REALLY dislike about this Ralphs is the service at the deli section. I was there a couple of nights ago, and as usual, the service was horrible. The workers are to busy speaking to each other in order to take a moment to provide service. Many times I would have wanted to order a salad, but I can never catch anyone's attention. I LOVE the service at Gelson's, so I usually go there if I want a salad. Service was SO BAD last time I was there, that I watched a woman wave her arm and heard her raise her voice in order to get someone's attention. I have been a shopper at this Ralph's location for almost 20 years and have always loved the place EXCEPT for some produce aisle issues that haven't been addressed. I purchase organic produce here because it's often at a better price than Whole Foods. But for about three and a half years now, I've been getting really annoyed at some of the issues. Let's focus on one item in particular: organic beets. I have complained to management a handful of times about the beet greens being chopped off when you purchase them in bunches. Why bother buying it in a bunch if it hasn't any greens left? We pay a premium for organic items and something like that is really disappointing. The beet greens are a healthy, nutrient rich, and totally edible part of the plant and they are lopping them off to allegedly "fit on the shelf"(what a produce worker actually told me). There is MORE than enough room. They have the same space at Whole Foods and don't lop the greens off. It's less value for the money when someone who doesn't understand the ingredient destroys it. read more

This location has really nice checkers, but inventory is lacking. This particular Ralphs is one of the smaller stores, but I really like the employees so I keep coming here. Since the rebates were discontinued last month it seems like the prices are going down quite a bit. 99 cents for strawberries is one example of good prices. Jennifer, Mark, Judy & Amy are the sweetest checkers. I'd probably shop at the La Crescenta store exclusively if they weren't here. I haven't seen Amy lately and hope she still works there. The box boys and girls are good. This store still carries the plastic shopping bags, so you don't have to worry about bringing your own bags. It is nice to be green and all, but 9 times out of 10 I forget them in my car. Sure, I can run out and get them, but it's kind of nice not to have to. I am taking one star off because they need to work on making sure they keep the shelves stocked. I get tired of asking for the 24 pack of diet pepsi because none are on the shelves and they don't have any in the back. The price for the 24 pack is so much better than the 12 pack. Also, they are putting old sodas on the shelves. I am taking another star off because the deli needs better management. I've been there twice around 5:30 p.m. looking for a rotisserie chicken and there weren't any available. They need someone to just manage that area better. If you know people are coming in for dinner items then they should pop some chickens on around 4:00 p.m.. I am giving them another star because they support the local schools, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. They let the scouts sell their cookies, popcorn and allow them to collect canned goods for various charities. Way to support the community, so I guess the community should support them and local businesses too. read more

1st time here and definitely wont be returning. We used the self check out, paid and when we were almost back in our car a clerk was running after us and yelling at us that our card didn't go though. I would like to give this store 5 stars, but Covid protection is minimal. Everyone piles in and the aisles are crowded. People wear the mask to get through the door, then pull it down and no employee says a word to them. I speak up, but I'm tired of fighting your battle. All you have to get is one case of Covid attributable to this Ralphs and it will be closed down. You should have someone walking around the store and asking selfish customers and employees to wear the mask or get out. It's ridiculous how one person can endanger so many, and it's the store's responsibility to demand cooperation. You can do better than this, and if you want an example, visit a Trader Joe's. They know how to maintain social distancing and if people don't wear the mask properly, they are asked to leave. It isn't hard to protect the public and your employees from the virus. I think I have died and gone to grocery heaven. I work up in this area and I usually frequent Trader Joes and Vons. I was so pleasantly surprised when I came here on a Saturday. Place is so nice inside, sorta felt like I was shopping in a ritzy area. Super sales galore! I got goldfish crackers here, each bag was $1.50. Woot! Always love when the soda is on sale too, and I got some top notch cereal there for super cheap too. Also, I'm not too fond of those self checkout lanes. They confuse the hell out of me, but this place not only encouraged people do use the self check out lanes, the computerized system that they use for it was super easy, I was seriously in and out of there. Wished I had more than 15 minutes to really take a look here though. I probably would have done my bi weekly grocery store trip here instead of the Vons on Glendale Ave. read more

It was absolutely a waste of time trying to cater food from Ralph's Deli department at this store. I placed a catering order online. Then, when I called the next to confirm, they could not find my order. I talked to Maria from the Deli department. Very unhelpfully, she told me to go into the store to place the order. So I did. When I got there, Maria was very friendly, helping the lady before me. When it was finally my turn, Maria made me wait a while so she could make sure she placed the order for the lady before. Then, when I asked her about the online order, she could not find it. Maria walked away several times to "check" on something or get the order ready for the lady before me. The in-store catering menu is completely different from the online menu. It was incredibly frustrating trying to cater from Ralph's Deli department. Threatening and harassment of a customer on her way out the door and he still continues to follow me because I didn't properly thanked him enough for "saving" the cell phone I left in the store. Not wanting a sandwich or fast food, I stopped in to the deli section to get something that was healthy and delicious. That's exactly what I found. I bought a tuna salad made with fresh albacore tuna & herbs. I also bought a small container of olives, cheese, sausage which was marinated with olive oil & other good ingredients. I was too hungry to read the ingredients so I ate the entire thing and came here to write the review. I bought the tuna, olive salad and a bottle of water for about $8.75 which was way cheaper than eating out and way better than eating junk food! The store has a great sized parking lot so you won't have parking problems. The store is clean and nice which makes a great lunch trip. I will definitely go back when I'm in the area! read more

With the COVID-19 restrictions we have been using Ralph's / Instacart Home Delivery service on multiple occasions. Notwithstanding the fact that we "turn-off" the "substitutions permitted" switch, we find that the Instacart Shoppers rottenly substitute other products for the ones we ordered. It was not until today, when I spoke to one of the Shoppers, that I understand why. Turning off the "substitutes switch" does not mean no-substitutes, it means that the Shopper refers to an Instacart shopping list to select the substitution. According to the Shopper, one must place a note on each item, where substitutes are not wanted, so stating, which seems like an unseasonable burden. For example:: An order for Sugar Free French Vanilla coffee creamer is substituted with ordinary (full sugar) French Vanilla. Not good for a person with Debates!! Duh!!! But this is a review of both Ralph's La Canada Flintridge and Instacart. Ralph's has demonstrated a continuing inability to keep its shelves stocked. I understand that it has been difficult to do so during the recent COVID-19 outbreak. But now businesses are reopening and the difficulties in keeping inventories on shelves is easing. I suggest that if Ralph's has continuing difficulties in keeping certain items in stock (which they do), remove them from the Instacart shopping list, or alternatively, do what Costco does, place an "Out-of-Stock" note on the item. In sum, both Ralph's and Instacart leave a lot to be desired! read more

(Shopped 7/16/12 M @ 10am): Although close to where I live, I have loyalty to another location... I've shopped at this Ralphs Fresh Fare on Foothill Blvd. in La Canada Flintridge for decades - mostly spur-of-the-moment or last-minute purchases, but it was never a family favorite as we would frequent the location closer to Glendale High School when I was growing up. However, since they made major upgraded improvements to this location over one year ago, it finally made it's way up to the times and now carried a more varied selection of items. Expect to see all types of food, products, etc., from various brands as well as the Kroger brand, and of course one of my favorite last-minute items...gift cards! On this particular morning, I helped my sister with something, so I was in the neighborhood (although, I simply have to roll the Brave Little Toaster down the hill to be at this Ralphs), and I needed to pick up a few snacks and the week. Plus, I had an $11.00 rewards certificate and coupons for items I planned on buying. With reusable green and black Ralphs bags in hand, I walked into a quiet grocery store with barely a handful of customers; nice! The fruits and vegetable section is right in front of you once you enter, so I grabbed two mangoes ($0.99 ea.), 2 lbs. in nectarines ($0.99/lb.), two small bags of baby carrots ($1.99/bag), and a quick-to-sell mushroom package ($1.09). As I playfully rode the shopping cart throughout the store (almost ran into a couple customers) aisle by aisle from left to right, I picked items such tortillas, hot sauce, bread, chips, yogurt, juices, frozen food, nutrition bars, before I finally reached the checkout counter...and I got suckered in and bought a couple Snickers bars (2/$1.00). At this time in the morning, the staff was restocking the shelves so their carts were a bit of an obstacle as I worked my way through the store, but not a biggie. They have a job to do, too, and this was the perfect time while things were slow. The store does have the self-checkout counters, but call me old-fashion, I still loved chit-chatting with the checkers. Plus, I always found a way to cause a problem with those self-checkout counters anyway. During its recent remodel, they were unable to structurally make the store larger; instead, they redesigned the inside for better spacing. Sorry, but my favorite Ralphs is still the one in La Crescenta, also on Foothill Blvd., due to the size, spacing, and even more selection. The service was great and always has been. This location managed to hire great employees both young and old who seemed to genuinely enjoyed their job and interacted with the customers. Kudos to the HR Dept. Parking is ample, although they do share with other businesses in this outdoor shopping center. Overall, The Kroger Company, the parent of Ralphs, has always done a wonderful job in my opinion, and this location is definitely a pillar of this community. I found good value on this particular trip as noted by the prices I quoted above (total bill was around $29.00, which included other items not mentioned, the $11.00 certificate and various coupons I had). The atmosphere, well, it was a grocery store, so nothing special to note here. The attire was totally casual, so I was in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. Wow, this Ralph's has changed. I couldn't believe when I left La Canada that people had not heard of Ralphs then I realized that they are primarily situated here in Southern California and no one else will ever get to know this place. I remember when this store was small and dinky with your standard produce. Then seemingly overnight it transformed into this glorious store gearing up to compete with places like Whole Foods while still maintaining its affordable prices. They have an array of organic and non organic produce and a great selection of meats and fish. You can pretty much find everything you want and every so often they'll have specialty items that even Whole Foods does not carry. I was disappointed, however that they did not have any limes. Say what? No limes? How is that possible? For a store that carries every tequila under the sun with a great selection of beers and items set out for guacamole, they had no limes. They tried to offer me Key Limes and I had to say, are you kidding me? I'd have to squeeze 40 of those to make 1 lime. Ordered early yesterday morning, 3 bottles of a wine I bought there the other day and a dozen eggs. PICK UP SERVICE - DO NOT USE - We have tried this service. And we are one for three. The first time was excusable since it was around the beginning of the pandemic. We had bought a stack of groceries including some with the Buy 5 Save $5 promotions. In the end, some of the items were not available, and we don't substitute, so we only got 3. Instead of $3 off the sale price, they charged us the full retail for those 3 items. We understood. It's new times. This last time however was yesterday at 7am. We had 5 items. Mainly the short end rib roast. Filled out the order to get to $35. Get the email saying the order has been complete. 5 items. I go there and Jordan slams my trunk and waves me off. I get home to find out that there is no rib roast. I call Jordan - I didn't get any notification of this item being missing. "It's the holidays". Thanks Jordan - Guess why we're ordering? I speak with Marc who is typically very solid. His comment which threw me for a loop. "We didn't charge you for it" It's 8-9 months in and you still haven't gotten this "service" down? Or your best is that you don't charge us for items you don't have? I passed on letting people know the first time because it was rough times (and they still are), but Ralphs should want to know that this is happening. I usually love this store but have noticed a major decline in employees and staff toward each other as well as to customers. The behavior of the employees while stocking is that you should climb around them while they're blocking the aisle ways - no one's in a hurry - no offer of help - many just socializing. I like the freshness of the deli, but recently witnessed an upper employee ordering several lunches for other employees and was really sarcastic with the guy putting the order together - that he hadn't labeled boxes correctly and was packing food items with no gloves on - the person ordering kept looking at me rolling her eyes and sighing in frustration - it was all very awkward and uncomfortable. Lastly, the store is not stocked they way the Pasadena and La Crescenta stores are - I go here only for the location, but often choose to go out of my way to go to other stores now. Out of all the Ralph's I have shopped at this is by far the BEST location. Everything is always well stocked, clean and don't even get me started on the wonderful customer service. Mark who was my checker and Pedro who was our bagger were both so very helpful with my husband and my groceries. We had so much stuff that we couldn't fit everything into one cart so Pedro went out and got us another AND walked us to our car to help us unload our bags.
