A car pulled out away from the curb so I snagged that spot. I entered was looking for a cart asked a couple people and apparently the carts are down in the garage so yes, there's a garage underneath just in case you needed to know and now I know for future. I managed to find a cart. Loaded up with ice went to self check out, which is very simple. They had a handheld device to scan my bag of ice times 15. Givin dirty looks and just straight out Rudeness if I go to ask a question about a product are any assistants of where I can locate a product and I refuse to come out of character and lower myself to their level. I try to avoid this store as much as possible. While waiting at the register, the previous customer finished paying but stayed in the lane taking extra time to organize his money, completely blocking space while my items were already scanned and piling up. I didn't make a scene, yell, or say a word, I simply quietly shook my head in slight frustration while waiting. Instead of managing the lane or maintaining a neutral stance, both the cashier and the bagger immediately turned their attention onto me. They made defensive, unsolicited, and dismissive remarks ("he's just a kid," "he's a paying customer"), effectively turning a minor delay into a situation where I was made to feel like the "bad guy" for simply standing there waiting to pay. As a paying customer, being publicly judged and belittled by store staff over a completely harmless, silent reaction was deeply unprofessional. I spoke directly with the store manager after the incident to report this behavior, but the staff's conduct was unacceptable for a store that usually prides itself on friendly service.

i am a local in pacific beach and own businesses in the area. i definitely dont expect perfection in customer service, but there is a limit. (this might be the 2nd yelp i have ever felt compelled to write) in short the wine manager recognized me the other day and suggested i buy wine during a short window in time where they will give you 40% off rather than the normal 30% off (when you buy 6 bottles). i went in to purchase 6 nice bottles (during that time period), and when at check out the checker ("Ericka C.") did not even know of the special. so i showed her a pic of the sign that was in the store that i had posted on my social media (because i was so excited). when i did, she interpreted it as a minimum of 12 bottles even though the sign did not say "a minimum of 12 bottles required". in any case no matter how your interpret it, she was very rude (which is strange as most checkers there are over nice most of the time). it took a long time to get a manager (which was a little embarrassing), but when "Nicholas Denny" arrived, who was firm but polite interpreted it the same although he admitted it didn't make a lot of sense. meaning it read as if 12 was a max, with the idea someone could buy 100, 200 bottles (or more) and get 40% off. in any case they felt the extra 10% off on 6 bottles of nice wine i was buying was worth rudeness and upsetting a customer enough to write this annoying ;) review. like a gentlemen i went back and bought 6 more for a total of 12, got the 40% off and left. i will simply buy all my wine on line for now on and encourage my friends and family to do the same. moreover i will just drive an extra 5 blocks to Vons for now on as well. this whole thing was dumb and could of easily been avoided. read more

I wasn't a big fan of this Ralphs at first... i shopped here all the time when I moved to San Diego, 5 years ago and I kept coming home with expired food!!! YUCK! It was very disappointing. So I started shopping at my neighborhood VONS. I just became so use to it. It was my place to go. I spend about $150 every 2-3 weeks on groceries. Well after years of shopping at VONS, I decided last year to try Ralphs again, but reminded myself to have eagle eyes on the expiration dates of my products. I was AMAZED at the price difference! Whoa! I never really was one to pay attention to that, I usually just buy what I need. Also with the Ralph's card, I LOVE hearing the register as it's marking down my prices!! :D haha. I buy waaaaay more groceries for $150. They have a good selection to keep your kitchen stocked. I like it too because it doesn't feel too crowded and the lines are not long either. My kids like it because they have those little shopping carts for the kids to push around to help out! :D Or the shopping cart with the car attached to it - if you're a parent, you know what I'm talking about! read more

This morning I go into this Ralph's, and as I'm going in there's two elderly homeless men, and one woman walking on Pacific drive past the Ralph's garage making their voices big, yelling threats, and expressing displeasure the whole time their voice was booming into the garage, it scared the hell out of me, I get out of my car, and there's two old homeless men walking like they're not doing anything wrong. I go into that store, and tell the manager what's happening, he pretends like he doesn't understand a word I'm saying. I go back later this evening, and those two homeless men, and lady are still standing on the corner. So, now it's official, every single time I go to any Ralph's I get threatened, and I don't appreciate it. Now each, and every time I go to a Ralph's I have to park my car, get out, walk around the entire building myself, and personally make sure there is no crazy ass homeless people there who are just itching to threaten, or attack me. It's a safety issue. I'm single, I can hang, but don't threaten me that's all I gotta say. read more

The people who work at Ralph's are generally nice, and obviously there is a wide selection of products. It's a big store. However, Ralph's shows total contempt for the customer by forcing customers to use self checkout. Their method is simple: no matter how many people are trying to check out, have only one checker working. Either you wait a lo-o-o-o-ong time in line, or you have to do their work by checking yourself out. And you have to wait to do that, too. No, this is not more convenient. It's just a way to make the customer do the work. Luckily there are other choices for shopping not far away. Bye bye Ralph's. read more

I have been shopping at this Ralph's in PB for 20 years. The staff has been awesome for two decades, but ROBIN who checks customers out has the biggest fans and repeat customers that will wait longer just to interact with ROBIN. ROBIN is not only a great asset to Ralph's, but ROBINS draws people to the PB store!!! Now ROBIN has become a major attractive personality in PB that make shopping not only fun but ROBIN is so very entertaining with Her true love for all. Thanks for all you do ROBIN!!! When you close early so you can do inventory, printing a tiny little sign that you put on the automatic door next to the 50 other signs already on the door is NOT an effective way to inform your customers. This Might have been the best option in 1992, but we've come along way since then, we'll all of us accept for Ralphs apparently. Just in the 3 minutes I've bed. This used to be a decent store. But to save money, they now have only one checker working, even if there is a long line. The idea is to force you to do their work by using the self-checkout line (no, it is NOT more convenient). And if it's busy, you have to wait in line there, too. For the privilege of doing their work for them. Luckily there are other good shopping options nearby. (Am I allowed to mention Sprouts, Trader Joe's and Vons?) read more

I go here probably several times a week. The bonus of Ralphs in general is the hours and that it usually has everything. The downside is the prices which is why I only buy certain things. Sometimes they have good clearance prices too. There are a couple of cashiers who are nice that I see on a regular basis. Also if you have a problem with anything they have exchanged it with no problem. read more

They didn't have any security working this Friday, and Saturday evening or morning. The property has homeless drug addicts loitering. They've been using the Starbucks as a crime hub. There was a stolen purse sitting there all day, and I had to get on their employees to do their job. And they still didn't do it, they didn't care at all that someone used their work place to commit a crime. read more

The store is ok, but it is a haven for criminals/homeless who steal stuff all day, every day. I have personally witnessed 3 different homeless guys steal bottles of booze, and several others blatantly shoplifting like they own the place. I have been assaulted by one of these homeless whack jobs. How about getting serious with your security Ralphs? Until then, I'll shop somewhere safer. read more

The location's a good size and there's not too much of a wait compared to their Monterey Park location. However, unlike their MP location, there's no Stinky Tofu pot. Service is great but during the dinner rush, they get a tad slow and kind of forget to do the small things like refill your water cup or coming back to give you an extra set of chopsticks etc. read more

Products aren't always stocked. Things are generally placed all over the place. So finding the things you need is somewhat of a hunt but generally always in the same area that it is supposed to be. So naturally that brings some frustration but the store is huge and spacious that they have a lot of alternatives to keep you happy. You'll also find some very niche items like firewood, knee braces, elder care supplies, at home testing kits and more. Lastly parking is fantastic. My group of four got a handful of buzz balls to guzzle down really quick and some Souchi drinks. 3.5 stars because it has a lot of selection and it was cheaper to get a drink here and get a little tipsy before heading into a bar and paying for the same drink but at a marked up price.

They will take every penny, but the selection of products is good. We had dinner nearby and I wanted to get my kiddo a treat. I spotted this shop across the street from the restaurant, so we made a b-line for it to snag some an ice cream to enjoy before bed. The shop is very clean and well lit. They have everything you could want from a c-store, including a full selection of liquor. I spotted some harder to find bottles on the shelf but noted that the prices were 2-3x what you should expect to pay. That put a sour taste in my mouth. I know some people who have searched for these bottles for years to no avail, and seeing them sitting there at prices that are clearly gouging made me a little sad. As for the ice cream, they had all the typical novelty selections to choose from, and we settled on a brownie filled cone similar to a King Cone. No prices posted, but figured it couldn't be more than few bucks. Went up to the register and that's where it all went downhill for me. Not only was the price north of $3 (for a pre-made ice cream cone), they tacked on a .50 fee for using my card without even mentioning that was about to happen. $4 for this is terrible, but this practice makes it even worse.. If you've read some of my other reviews, you may know I HATE when a business does this to their customers. We are living in a nearly cashless society, and this practice is predatory and illegal in some places. The fee they tack on is almost always more than the one they pay the cc company to boot. Word to the wise... be prepared if you pop in here.

It was the ONLY dollar store near us so we made the drive from our hotel to Ocean Beach. The store is a bit cramped and isles are kind of small but it serves it's purpose with cheap house hold items. They have drinks, snacks and misc items you wouldn't think of buying unless browsing. Lucky for me I had my husband there to remind me to get what we need and go cause lunch was waiting for us across the street at Hodad's.

As you can see-Max's is INDISPENSABLE if you aspire to live the TRUE O.B. lifestyle! I LOVE their incense-they sell that cool kind that doesn't smell all phony for 10 sticks/$1.00. Also available-boxed Nag Champa-for that Indian mystic temple smell (also good at covering up bud smells & crack pipe odors!) Cheap laundry soap and fabric softener for washing clothes. Inexpensive shampoos and conditioners here-some of it very random. I just LOVED my Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen coconut conditioner! Pet food also to be found and a great selection of candles for keeping that O.B. aura going (and if SDG & E cuts your electricity off!) As you can see from the above-I Thank God everyday for this wonderful store full of really cheap stuff that is also so very useful in daily life!
