A nice, small market near the Hyatt Mission Bay. They open early and it's where you get coffee in the morning because you are NOT getting any free coffee from the Hyatt. You need to walk along the bay and find this little shop. They offer some pastries and pressed egg sandwiches (not great - don't go that way). Just get your coffee and whatever looks fresh in the pastry case. I got a breakfast sandwich on a croissant and it was every bit of a reconstituted sandwich that felt like fake eggs and whatever we're calling microwaved bacon. Coffee refills are $1. They have a lot of gifty options - ranging from plastic mini surfboards to $135 candle holders. Nothing I needed... but some high-end candles you can find elsewhere and some locally made jams and hot sauces. Not bad. But if you're staying at the Hyatt... let's be clear... you're stuck. This is your coffee option. Count it on your fit bit. read more

Very cheap poor quality ingredients. My friend and I each got avocado toast. It's on a slice of cheap store bought white bread "sourdough" with a very thin schmear of green stuff that was prepackaged avocado, they don't even use fresh avocado for the item that's the main ingredient!! We took ours back and the guy gave us our money back without saying anything which was nice of him but they sorta seem offended when I asked what brand deli meat they used when I inquired if they had boars head he said that people don't want to pay $14 for a sandwich.... Well if you used ALL quality ingredients with fresh baked bread they most definitely would. My other friend said her tuna sandwich wasn't good, and honestly it didn't look good either. read more

I went there, expecting a deli sandwich. What I got was a homemade sandwich with store-bought slices of thin meat slices. Which consisted of only two slices of meat. Being a advertise deli, I was expecting at least a ham slice to be at least an 1/8" to 1/4". smh. But, the lettuce, tomato, mustard & mayo was very fresh! read more

Buy didn't include all items listed (didn't tell me until he after he gave me the sandwich that they were out of sprouts)- the avocado he used was GREY and he slathered so much mustard on there that i couldn't taste anything else in the sandwich. As far as local neighborhood markets go, Mission Market is too notch. Look you aren't gonna get the lowest prices, if you want that go to Walmart. But you get the convenience of being able to walk over to grab what you need without getting a car. They've got fresh produce, good meats and cheeses and a host of other last minute items you need. Do not use their deli to make you a sandwich. Not only did they make it wrong. We ordered a French roll and they gave us whole wheat, but the avocado was brown and when my husband bit into the sandwich he discovered the bread was moldy! See the photo in which bread is full of green mold. They did offer to replace it or give us our money back when we drove back to return it. This market was a 5 min walk from our VRBO. Very convenient location. Past reviews said nothing about fresh fruit/veggies so we contributed the pic. Prices are pretty high but it's the only market around so you're paying for convenience. Example: Box of crackers $4.50. They don't call it "Mission Markup" for no reason!!! Tourists and locals, don't shop here, unless you like being overcharged. Joe, usually the cashier, is argumentative and always overcharges. He gives you an even number for the total and no itemized receipt. How is that possible after taxes? The answer is, it is not. They round the price to whatever they want, and when you ask why it isn't similar to the price advertised, they say "taxes." Well wait a minute, if it was taxes, wouldn't it most like be an odd number, like say twenty-five dollars and twelve cents? Not just twenty-five dollars even. This does not seem legal, and I'm going to look into ways to report this nonsense. Also, how come one item is one price one day, and the next day it is a totally different price? As a side note, the meat/deli area looks super sketchy and I've found expired items in there, so be careful. I recommend just shopping at ACE Liquor next door because they are way more friendly and they actually ring up your items so they can tell what everything costs exactly with taxes. read more

Within walking distance of my place, I call ahead and when I get there, I am good to go. I always get the vegetarian sandwich on sourdough, hold the oil and vinegar and add turkey. I can never remember the name of that sandwich so I say that each time I call. There is only street parking, so this place is a little tricky to get to, but if you are already at Mission Beach it is worth a walk to get the sandwiches. There is good Mexi and Pizza next door if you have a group with varying tastes. Of course the Beachcomber is right next door, if you are in the mood for a drink - and you are welcome to bring any food in while you have a drink. Just saying. read more

if you forget to pack some snacks when heading to south mission beach, there is always mission market nearby to load up on chips, drinks, and sammiches. wafts of bbq were coming from a family cooking in the grassy area which made me super hungry. someone really needs to bring their taco truck on down here but until then mission market is a gold mine for location, location, location. the shop has a big selection of booze but they also have a fresh deli section with a friendly guy behind the counter. my go-to is a tuna salad with bacon on a hoagie with funyuns and cheddar popcorn. work off the calories by hitting the nets with a friendly game of v-ball. if people watching is more your speed...there are plenty of beach front patio parties. one always has a old creeper dude in the corner. read more

Although quite overpriced, I can't help but love this place out of sheer convenience. When I'm cooking and run out of eggs or milk, or desperately need a bottle of ice cold water after a night out, I just run over to the Mission Market and all of my needs are fulfilled. Not to mention, this place has been in Mission Beach for so long and it's clear how much they love being a part of the MB community...Joe even has walls around the market dedicated to photos of his customers that have been taken over the years! For what they lack in competitive pricing, they make up for in personality. It's nice being able to walk into this market and feel welcome, and Joe has even been willing to order something specially if they are no longer carrying it or don't have a certain flavor in-stock! Also, just one quick story: my roommate was craving Cheese-Its one night and it was pretty late, but she called the market and they agreed to stay open long enough for her to run over and get a box...you just don't experience that kind of service at any other market, so for that I couldn't be happier to give this place a well-deserved 4 stars. read more

Old lady that works there is NOT NICE. Very rude. Sells expired products. She flipped on us because we got some napkins - she said "those are for donuts." She said we were ridiculous bc we got 5 napkins instead of 1. She said we can buy napkins. She was SO RUDE. She resells products from Kroger and Costco and marks up the prices by triple. My family just bought a condo in the area, and we love this little local market. The selection of items is quite broad. You'll get better prices at a supermarket, but for us, it's a 'convenience' to walk a few minutes and be able to get what we need without jumping in the car all the time. They have a deli area with fresh-made sandwiches, tons of choices of drinks, breakfast goods and sundries. Mostly though, all the people who work their are very friendly and it has a neighborhood/local feel. read more

This is a local market that will probably have what you need, but you will pay. We bought a few things like eggs and tortillas to get us a start on feeding ourselves at a vacation rental nearby. It all fit in a small backpack and one other bag. It cost more than 70 bucks. It was kind of late and we were worn out from the trip so we paid, but we found a Ralph's the next day.
