It's not a hotel but a MOTEL, as the doors to the rooms face the outside. The big "campfire" centerpiece of the hotel is a fire pit in the parking lot. They seem to spend more money on decoration than the infrustructure, trying to appeal to a hipster crowd. I felt bad for the front desk staff trying to check in a long line of guests because the computer system was very slow and we all waited a long time. I am writing this review on my phone while waiting for my computer to load because the internet keeps going in and out, and when it is working, it is VERY slow. Also, the bathroom area is outdated. My sink is cracked, the toilet seat is peeling, and the shower is dripping all night. The cleaning is suspect, as I found old contacts on the bedside lamp. The furniture choices are uncomfortable: a fuzzy stool for the desk and metal chairs for the table. The desk and fridge are full of snacks and beer for purchase (not my thing but maybe others appreciate?). The outlets by the bed and desk are used up by the lamps. No extra towels in room. I haven't tried the pool area yet.

Lots of amazing frolicking through the property garden and forest for the littles. Everything was so tranquil, with the state of the world these days it was soooo much of everything we needed to take a break. I saw some people mentioned outdated cabins in their reviews but I dont get why? Theyre historic and retro design but meticulously maintained and clean. Someone clearly knows a lot about design because it feels like youre staying in an art piece that perfectly compliments the gorgeous forests and river outside. All the staff we ran into was so nice and helpful and they all work really hard to make it a great experience for people to enjoy. Honestly too, the wedding amenities looked AMAZING. If youre going to celebrate your love anywhere in nature, this should be the place. I bought a hat with a freakin Loloma lodge name on it! Who does that?! I did because this place was magical. Although we thought it could get tough with no shower, rest assured, camp and rv sites have you covered there. 4 days was just enough, but we honestly could have gone a week. So at 3:00, the 2 employees are overwhelmed trying to check everyone in at once and the customers are irritated before they even get their room key. We are a member at La Quinta so I know his is not a corporate policy just something the Bend located instituted. The room was adequate and glad we were on the ground level as there are no elevators.

My room, in the basement, had curtains hanging halfway off of the hooks, as did many others, as could be seen from outside. The floor was creaky, both in my room, and in the room above me. The AC made grinding noises all night long, and the tub, sink, and toilet all drained slowly, or not at all. I didn't even risk the complementary breakfast. I would not stay here again.

One of the most exciting parts was crossing the river several times. In some places there were bridges, and at one point we had to carefully balance across a log, which made the hike even more fun and memorable. We visited in April, and there was still a little snow on the trail. The weather was beautiful, but I would recommend bringing traction spikes if conditions are slippery and hiking poles for extra stability. The waterfalls were spectacular, and the scenery along the trail was breathtaking. It was a perfect mix of adventure and natural beauty. I'm sure I'll return one day with my kids to experience it all again.

Check in was smooth and they even have someone drive you to the rooms and explain all the ins and outs. We stayed in the bungalows, which come with breakfast in the morning and a private golf buggy. The room is gorgeous and fitted with pretty much anything you need. There's a sunk in living room, with a giant L shaped couch. 2 massive TV's with chrome cast. Heated flooring in the bathroom. Private hottube outside. The breakfast is good, but nothing to write home about. Fresh pastries, fruit, and yogurt. It does get delivered to the door, which is a nice touch. The buggy is also really handy as the resort is pretty massive, so although getting around on foot is certainly possible, the cart makes it a lot easier. As for amenities, there's more than what we could even do. Family pools, adult-only pools, archery, horseback riding? and much more. The fitness facility is also surprisingly well stocked, with barbells, dumbbells, and cable machines.

That's not the case here at the Smith Rock Bivouac Area: a first-come, first-serve space on the bleeding edge of the Crooked River canyon, and in the shadow of its legendary namesake landmark. Officially, check-in for grabbing a spot (there are no designated campsites, per se) opens at 4pm daily, although we were informed by the camp custodian (stationed in a RV across from the self-pay kiosk) that we were OK to enter upon our arrival at 3:00. Once you've purchased your ticket ($8.00/person, including minors), park your vehicle in lot, and be sure to display your pass on the dash. The parking lot is ring-shaped, and encloses the only area designated and approved for cooking, and no campfires are allowed anywhere on site, so be sure to bring your gas grills or other method of flameless food preparation. Adjacent to the entrance are the public sinks (potable water, for washing dishes), restrooms and showers, which are reasonably clean, well-maintained, and the water temperate of the latter can be described at "hot enough". And for the mini-mountaineers among your party, there's a small practice climbing rock, complete with handholds, to warm up for the main event! Beyond the fence at the edge of the parking lot, headed towards Smith Rock, is the bivouac area: several acres of mostly open ground, partitioned by batches of scrub brush and small trees, volcanic rock, and the canyon edge itself. It's definitely possible to find a semi-private area nestled among the bushes and desert foliage, although the spots closest to the cliffside are taken early. Even during our late July visit, most of the campground was unclaimed, but during peak times, excess campers would be relegated to grabbing whatever bit of exposed flat ground is available, giving adequate space between themselves and their neighbors. However, even if one were forced into close-quarters cohabitation with others, the communal atmosphere here exudes that of enthusiastic appreciation of both man and nature alike: people of like minds, hobbies and interests coming together to revel and share in the beauty and majesty of Mother Earth together. Whether you've come to Smith Rock for the hiking, rock climbing, camping, or just a day trip to take in the sights of the spectacular spectacle of this miracle of nature, you're in for something special. There are very few places in Oregon, the PNW, or anywhere else on Earth, that offer the quality, quantity and variety of world-class outdoor experiences that Smith Rock does, for next to nothing. Protect it, treasure it, and above all, enjoy it to the fullest extent of what it provides in outdoor activities and adventure opportunities. You will not regret or forget it.

We grabbed our payment envelope and picked a spot. The grounds managers happened by via golf cart, and offered to take our envelope so we wouldn't have to go back around. They were extremely friendly, and mentioned that although they'd been pretty dead lately there was a run starting nearby the next morning, so they were filling up much more than they expected on this, their final weekend of the season. The campground is much bigger than I expected, and although the nature of the surrounding landscape doesn't offer the thick, lush trees that bring privacy, the spots are large and it's laid out in a way that works. Great experience...great location to Smith Rock, cool setting, extremely clean and quiet, and friendly management. We will definitely stay here again.

We had such a fun time riding, and would love to come back one day to stay at the campground and check out some of the other trails in the area. Gary was especially careful with our bikes on his rack, had an impeccably clean car (even without considering he hauls around outdoor enthusiasts), and happily showed us important markers and potential hiccups on the trail as he drove us to the trailhead. Alyssa was very responsive and kind on the phone. Overall, I get the impression that they love the land and community around McKenzie River, and are just excited to share that enthusiasm with their guests.
