For those who got ones that lacked flavor...Probably got tofu flavored. Black garlic tonkotsu here is rich. They might serve a bigger menu if you go earlier. Later at night seems to be smaller. I've been going here every-time I drop into Bellingham. The night owl's ramen shop. -being a bigger guy though comfier chairs would be nice, but probably keeps people from staying too long lol. Decent quick cheap ramen. It's cafeteria style where you order at the counter and then take the number to put on your table. There's a watch machine and a place to return your dishes. The cashier will bring the ramen to you. I got the spicy tonkotsu and got the spicy sauce on the side which wasn't even Japanese sauce. It was the Korean hot sauce with pepper flakes. Terrible for Japanese ramen. I asked for chili oil and she said they make the oil in store so it's extra. I don't know why the house made chili oil is not the 'spicy sauce.' The worker wouldn't be accommodating and when I said I didn't like the sauce I paid $1.50 for couldn't be replaced with chili oil. It was just your standard ramen and I would probably try somewhere else next time. read more

Have been here many, many times after living in Bellingham for 5 years. Never had an issue until tonight, and couldn't understand the 3.5 star rating but it is starting to make sense. Tonight I Had my sister pick up our order that I placed over the phone for 3 tonkatsu ramens (2 black garlic). Been our favorite dish there for a long time and always loved it. After she got home with the order we realized that there was absolutely no chasu (pork) in any of our 3 dishes. I called the store, and asked them about it and they offered an 8$ refund or extras for next time we came in. We live 30 minutes away. Not exactly like we could easily come back and get the pork or a re-fire of the dish, but that wasn't even offered to us. In their website, they charge 3.5$ for extra chasu. So they didn't even offer us the amount they charge for the protein. After discussing this I called them back to try and explain the frustration we had with this and was entirely dismissed by their manager. When I told her they charge 3.5$ for additional pork she didn't even know the cost, and then offered to give me 11$ refund, because I had received 55$/65$ of food I ordered. I didn't though. I ordered a pork ramen, and didn't receive the primary part of that order. If I wanted a vegetable option I would have picked that. She insisted that there wasn't any other option. The food was decent the restaurant looked like a school cafeteria and the service was non-existent. Walk in, place your order on a touch pad, pay, tip and sit down without any staff even acknowledging that you exist. Bus your own table and get your own water. The only time any staff spoke to us at all was when she brought us our ramen...and she brought us the wrong order. Someone please remind me what the tip is for if no staff even attempts to interact with the customers and you have to do everything yourself. They even stopped seating new customers 45 mins before they closed. They only did takeout orders from then on. All in all, takeout would be ok, but there are better places to get ramen in the area. read more

The restaurant is cozy and has a nice atmosphere. However, the ramen was underwhelming and the broth lacked flavor. The poke also wasn't anything special, but seemed pretty fresh and was presented nicely. The service was also quick and easy as it was an order first and seat yourself situation. read more

If I could give a zero star I would. The Ramen here doesn't take good at all, and I've tried multiple of the kinds they offer. I went on a Sunday for their onigiri and spam musubi, but they unfortunately don't make them on Sundays....so I tried again on Monday and they still said they don't have any. I was so thrilled that a ramen place would be replacing Muto! I love me some ramen. That's about where the thrill ended. There are no prices on the online menu, but upon walking in and seeing it in person, I was a little surprised at how expensive it is. You order at the counter and they deliver the food, and then you bus your own table. An order of gyoza, a ramen "super spicy" and a mixed katsu donburi bowl with "umami chili oil" was $45, with $2 and $1.5 charges for the extras, respectively. The cashier was very nice, and the place is clean. The gyoza was pretty small and had the weird whiff of plastic. The ramen broth was okay, but lacked depth. The "super spicy' was just extra red chili flakes. The bowl was fine... Literally just fine. Neither upcharge was worth it. Portions were enough for lunch, but it was all just so basic that I didn't even finish mine. Maybe they're working kinks out, but if I want stateside ramen, I prefer elsewhere. read more

Mostly self-service but the ambience is nice. It's open very late and even has a late-night menu! Lots of great appetizers and solid main dishes. Broth can be a bit salty if that's not your thing, but the extra spicy options more than make up for it. It's the proper burn kind of spice but it does cost more to add to your dish which is unfortunate. Amazing combo deals as well to get extra value outta your cash. read more

My boyfriend and I were really excited to try this place since it seemed like it had recently opened. We went close to when they opened for dinner time and got a seat pretty fast. We had both ordered the tonkotsu ramen and overall it was a decent bowl of ramen. The noodles were chewy and bouncy, the egg was perfectly cooked, and the chashu had the right amount of smokiness. The only thing for me was that the broth was too salty, but luckily they had a self-serve water station. As for the flow of the restaurant: you come in, order on the kiosk at the front, take a number if you're dining in, then sit anywhere you please. At first we didn't realize what to do but there is signage at the front indicating what to do. Despite the restaurant being self serve the person working at the front was very kind and attentive throughout our meal, constantly checking on if we needed anything. read more

Decided to try my first ramen in Bellingham at Ramen and Bowl. They have an interesting set up for a sit down restaurant. They have you order at the register, self serve yourself water, and self seat. I've had this at other restaurants before but this just felt a little impersonal at this nice of a looking restaurant. We decided to get the tonkatsu ramen and chicken teriyaki. I wasn't too impressed with the flavor. I'm not sure I'll return again. I ordered late at night (around 9:45) on a Friday and they were still open, moved quickly and didn't miss any part of my order. This place always hits the spot and I feel like there's nothing like it around here. I love the takoyaki and chirashi bowls. It's a cool little place and the workers are friendly and food is ready quickly. We've been super excited that a new ramen spot was popping up in town and while I don't prefer ramen as my choice for noodle soup, I do love a rice bowl and small plates. The service style is a little different - order at the counter, seat yourself, server brings your food and you bus your own table - but that's not a bad thing, it can just be challenging to find a seat and there isn't too much of a waiting area. My favorites were the chashu bowl with "umami" chili oil and the mixed katsu bowl. The chashu was flavorful and tender, the chili oil had a good amount of sugar in it (which I love) and I love variety, so the mixed katsu was awesome for me. The ramen toppings were great, but the broth could be richer. Apps are pretty standard and not super exciting, but $3 draft beers are DEFINITELY a highlight. read more

Wow. So impressed. This is, without a doubt, THE BEST RAMEN in Whatcom County. This is the perfect place to grab a quick lunch while on break during your work day. Also makes for a great place to get a quick, delicious dinner or a fun and very affordable date night spot. They have a simple, non complex menu with all the Japanese staples you'd expect. The ramen is authentic and delicious. All the appetizers are great as well. (Although I will note the miso soup was a tad too salty for my taste) they have some unique and fun Japanese drinks to try. The servers are friendly and attentive. This IS a sit-down restaurant, but you are meant to go up to the register to order. Your food will be ready quite quickly so be ready to chow down about 10-15 minutes after ordering. Honestly, when all is said and done, we LOVED this place. For the price point, I'd say they go above and beyond. We plan to be regulars at this place. read more

My chicken katsu was amazing! Adding a side of curry really took it to another level. I highly recommend adding the curry to everything. The matcha ipa was worth a try as well. I have tried several of their types of ramens as well as bowls. First I tried the Tonkotsu Ramen and found it to be relatively flavorless with the exception of the negi (green onion topping). The Chashu (pork belly), incorrectly spelled as Chosu, tasted as if boiled first and then pan seared. And why wasabi on a small plate as a condiment? I would expect both ichimi and sitchimi to be on every table to be used for pretty much every entree. The next time I tried the pork katsu. The pork was over cooked and dry. A big disappointment. Next I tried the beef sukiyaki. While better than the ramen and katsu it was lackluster. The negi should be an accent flavor but it overpowered the beef and sukiyaki sauce that was bland at best. I was going to try the karage and takoyaki, but the ramen and bowls scared me off. Note the prices are relatively high for what would cost between ¥700 and ¥1,000 in Japan (roughly the equivalent of 5.5 and 7.5 USD). The ramen can run up over $17 with tax as do the bowls. The Unagi bowl at over $21? Turn left and go to Just Poke for an Unagi bowl that is flavorful and an equivalent size as Ramen and Bowls for $7 less. Sadly, Bellingham does not have a Japanese restaurant of good quality. Of course the cooks are college kids, likely with no prior training or experience with Japanese food. read more
