Come early, come hungry. Had the spicy miss ramen and pot stickers. Was a little off but by the price at first but it was a ton of food. I had to leave some broth behind unfortunately. The soup tasted great and had just the right amount of heat. Very good and tender pork belly on top. Pot stickers were tender and tasty. Got there right at open and it got very busy around 5:30. Food and service was great. I had no issues with the food or service. It was my first time trying the place and I see myself coming back. I liked the spicy miso that I got, it went well together. Everyone was really nice and the food came out very quickly. My only complaint is that they should reconsider who is the face of their business. The front cashier, seemed to have bad face hygiene and i truly lost my appetite. I found that pretty gross that this person was handling the food, god forbid his skin peeling that way gets into it. It was very unappealing. I had forgotten about it by the time we finished our meal but as we left I saw it again, and It made me very queasy on a full stomach. Very unfortunate. Honestly I was kind of disappointed in this place considering the reviews. I feel like it's a bit over price for the quality and amount of good you receive. The noodle I felt were over cook, the broth was too flavorful, the egg (my favorite part) wasn't good at all, and there was hardly any meat. My fiancé and I are both nuts for everything that is Japanese cuisine. We were both super excited when we heard about a place in Indy selling real ramen! However the excitement quickly lulled as I was read my total for the bill. Drinking water and ordering two bowls we spent nearly $40! When I asked the person behind the counter how spicy the spicy ramen was to which he replied "it just has a little kick. You'll be fine." Oh how wrong he was lol. I have a pretty good tolerance for spice but this was a bit too much for me. I wasn't able to finish it. However my fiancé got the Miso Ramen which was spot on. Overall I just can't get past the price. I make ramen at home at. It's the cheapest dish by nature. If I do return I'll try a different dish but price is definitely going to keep me away for awhile. read more

The food is decent, but over-priced. After two meals, two beverages, and the tip, it was $40 for two people... for two bowls of noodles and broth. The food wasn't bad by any means, but it was definitely something I could have made at home just as good for way less money. Also, it is kind of weird that the place is run like a QSR... you go in, order and pay first, then wait for them to call out your number. Then you have to sit at community-style tables, which does not work well for a big guy like myself. If I am going to spend $20 per person, I would want sit-down restaurant service and food that I can't do better myself. All-in-all, I just wasn't impressed, especially for the price point. read more

My experience at Ramen Ray was good but could have been better. The soup was awesome and flavorful. I would recommend the Miso soup with a spicy ball if you like a little bit of heat. I will return in the future when I am craving ramen. The reasons for why I gave it 3 stars as opposed to four stars was because of the loud rock music and no proper to-go containers. Ramen Ray's had heavy rock music playing in the restaurant which took away from the experience of eating ramen with chopsticks. I would like to see them play some more easy listening music or no music at all. The hard rock music does not fit the Ramen Ray atmosphere. The portions are filling and delicious. But when it came time to leave my wife and I wanted to take the leftovers home but the only to-go containers were little 8 ounce styrofoam cups with lids. This meant we had to pack our soups in five styrofoam cups which was not easy to transport home. Please Mister Ramen Ray get yourself some proper to-go containers!! Overall Ramen Rays is a great ramen restaurant at a fair price. I would recommend Ramen Rays. read more

This is real ramen. I've lived 17 years in Japan, and really missed good ramen. So I finally went tonight with two Japanese friends, and the consensus was that this is the real deal. I mean, look, I can't say that it is the best ramen I've ever had, but it is certainly authentic, which is actually hard to find even in a lot of bigger cities in the US, where there is an incentive to localize the taste to reach a broader audience. The other thing to keep in mind is that ramen is just ramen. It is the kind of thing that in Japan you eat for a quick lunch, or late at night after too many drinks. A lot goes into making the broth, and people apprentice for years before they open their own shop, so it isn't simple to make, but it is still a simple dish, so unless you are all nostalgic for a taste you grew up on (the number 1 food that Japanese abroad say they miss most) , keep expectations reasonable. read more

Love this place. I've been here many times and it has now become one of my go-to lunch places. The establishment itself is very simple: go to the counter, order one of their ramen dishes (regular or half-size, which, by the way, I only discovered one could order a half-size after having eaten there several times), get a number, have a seat, and your steaming bowl of ramen is brought to you a little while later. I will mention that it does take a while to get your food as they make your dish to order; no vats of prematurely prepared noodles here, folks! I always get the shoyu ramen with a rich, beefy, soy broth. It's delicious. read more

But the second time I visited I got the veggie ramen and the cabbage was bitter, I added a soft boiled egg and the egg was cold - almost like it wasn't heated up long enough in the microwave. read more

This place was very yummy! I got the half order of spicy miso, it comes with pork. They allow you to opt out of the meat, which was amazing. Although, if you are a strict vegetarian, they do have meat in the broth, so beware of that. The spicy miso was definitely spicy but had good flavor! Could have used more noodles honestly. A nice little find while traveling. The outside doesn't look special, but the inside is a different story. It was almost a full house on Saturday night which is always a good sign. The interior was welcoming, and staff was friendly. You order at the front and then take your seat. A server brings your food and refills your drink. I was disappointed they didn't have any hot beverages like tea. Prices were higher than they should be. Ramen was very good nonetheless. One word: overrated. So sorry guys but I felt I ate something from Noodles and Company but for a lot more money. We both had the vegetable ramen and vegetable dumplings and it's not that it was bad; it just wasn't anything to write home about. Again, think Noodles and Company. Meh or 'it's okay.' Just over $40 in food for ramen and I'm thinking, 'This is something I'd throw together for $3.' These noodles are a kitchen staple for me (from Saraga for a few dollars for a big bag) and I get a big bag of dumplings frequently from Brothers Oriental. Maybe $5 for 20 or more of them and they taste the same. Yeah, I know, I don't always want to cook either; if that's the case, I'll get pho from Saigon Café or Pho 54 instead. Or I'll visit the noodle shop at Saraga International Market for much cheaper and better. I'm definitely not motivated to go back. My advice: Make them yourself or get pho. The best part about this experience: I feel motivated to make my own ramen Nutshell: Not bad but nothing special. However, the pics on Yelp look great so maybe the meat ramen is the only way to go. 4.5 stars. Went here a while back when the 'ramen master' was there for a special event. I ordered the Spicy Miso ramen. It was probably the best ramen broth I have had (I've been to countless in other big cities, NYC, Seattle, Chicago, etc...) but this was my favorite. I only took off .5 because the portion was small for the price. My pork was very small compared to what other places I have served. Unfortunately other items weren't available on their menu at the event. I hope to go back and try their other ramen and food items. read more

Since this place is the only game in town I give it 4 stars but it is really 3.5 to be honest. The pork is cut a bit too thin and the broth is not the best I have had. Nor are the noodles. There is only one appetizer side as well to choose from, so they should try and expand their lineup. That being said if you are in Indianapolis and you need a ramen fix this place will do it nicely. read more

Central Indiana finally has a legit Japanese ramen shop! I ordered the shoyu ramen and I was impressed - I think Ramen Ray easily blows away the popular ramen spots up in Chicagoland. I added no extra toppings, so it only came with one slice of chashu and a half soft-boiled egg. It's a bit on the pricey side after adding in 9% tax plus tip, but I suppose it's the price to pay to have legit ramen without needing to fly west (to Southern California or Japan). Note for the unaware - Today is only their second day, yet they had to cut off orders for the night at just 6 PM due to running out of broth. Closing shop due to running out of broth is fairly typical of popular ramen shops in Japan, so that's probably an "authentic" feature you don't want to discover for yourself! read more

I went here with my Japanese husband, who is very familiar with ramen (for obvious reasons) and something of a ramen snob. He loved it! I had the spicy miso ramen which was pretty much perfect - not melt my face off hot, but enough of a kick. My husband had the regular miso ramen and said it reminded him of the traditional Hokkaido style miso ramen he ate back home. The only negative thing we have to say is that the place is fairly small, but I have never seen a ramen restaurant in my life in any country in the world that had ample seating. I don't know why; ramen places just always tend to be small. My husband also described the gyoza as "so-so." I liked it, but again he's hard to impress. So, if you're looking for a place in Indy to get authentic ramen this is a very good bet! read more
