Been a customer since they opened in March, almost weekly visits because it was that good. The service has always been impeccable, love the wait staff. The switch from having Sushi rolls, Nigiri (Sushi on there menu, now called the Sashimi section), Ramen, and Hibachi was incredible. The lunch menu was to die for, and dinner offered enough difference to make the price worth the extra cost. Now, its removed Hibachi, Ramen, and a majority of its appetizers. It has added BBQ and Hotpot, but charges an extra $9.99 for the "Sashimi" buffet if you don't get the $34.99 truly AYCE versus the base $21.99 "Sushi Buffet." The "Sushi Buffet is only the sushi rolls, so more power to people that enjoy sushi rolls, I prefer the Nigiri. The quality of everything except the Nigiri has dropped, not a lot, but enough to no longer make me consider it the high quality is held its own standards to even a month ago. I won't be returning based on what I know this place was before and hope any future goers feel they are getting the value out of what is offered. 1st visit here. It said 90 mins but it wasn't busy the Saturday night I went and the waiter kept saying we were fine no rush. Salad bar and fruits and soft serve ice cream you go up and get it yourself. But they have TEMPURA ICE CREAM on the AYCE menu. So don't forget to order that. We only ordered one roll because why stuff yourself with rice and then you have no room to eat other things that worth the price. We got the soft shell crab roll. It was delicious. Rest of the food we ordered were sashimi and few nigiri. All were fresh. The fish roe the big one was fishy as always the little roes are better. The sweet shrimp sashimi it was fresh an sweet but a bit tiny so we ordered over 10 each order. Tried the bowl of ramen, wow the noodles was tender. I didn't expect that. It's better than some ramen places. The amount of noodles isn't as big as a ramen place which make sense so you have room to try other things or order more again. Tan, our server, was excellent. He kept checking on us throughout our meal, which is appreciated at a buffet-style restaurant. There was a great variety of food to choose from, including both raw and cooked dishes. The sashimi quality was a bit mixed--some were good while others were just okay--but overall, it was still very good for the price. I like the tempura ice cream! Two things occurred last Saturday night: I was craving sushi and the Yelp app was down so I couldn't check in for my first visit to Sushi Yama just outside of the Castleton mall. I had no idea it was all you can eat situation and hesitated at first to commit to that as I don't usually eat enough to justify it. After looking at the menu which includes Sashimi, Sushi rolls, Hibachi, Ramen, soup, appetizers and a salad bar I decided to go for it. My favorite was the hibachi. I heard about this place on Instagram and went the same day for early dinner. It's in the old Houlihan's spot attached to Castleton mall. It's super dark inside - had to use my phone flashlight to read the menu. Weekends and holidays are $36/pp and M-F 11a-3p is $23/pp, which includes all you can eat sushi, ramen, hibachi, various appetizers, and a small salad/fresh fruit bar - not a bad price. You get 90 minutes per table to order as much as you want, so I'd suggest your group arrive at the same time. Soda is extra for $3 with unlimited refills, Japanese sodas are $4/ea, and alcohol is $5/ea. With food made to order, food is a little slow but will come out in waves when you order multiple things, which I suggest to save time. Our waitress, Joyce, was lovely! The appetizer portions are very small, which I appreciate so there's less chance for waste - you can always order more. The sushi quality was not bad - not the best in the area but very fresh and made to order. My spouse said the ramen was okay, the pork and noodles were pretty good but the broth just lacked any flavor. Shrimp tempura had a very strange texture but chicken tempura was good. I loved the gyoza and the dipping sauce - those were excellent. Really bummed the only salad dressing is ranch, the thick sour kind (not house made) but the fresh fruit bar was awesome, with fresh strawberries, blueberries, green and red grapes, honeydew, pineapple, and frozen yellow watermelon. You can ask for ginger dressing from the back (not advertised) but it's thick and brown, not the traditional kind - I wasn't a fan. The salad bar also has wasabi, ginger, seafood salad, seaweed salad. The hibachi comes in a kids size portion, again you can order multiple so I appreciate the smaller size. Getting it with fried rice or noodles is optional. The tempura fried ice cream was suggested by our waitress but it was terrible - very wet and mushy thick batter, no crunch, lacked any flavor. Overall might return, but with a soda, tax, and tip it came out to over $50/pp. That's not bad for all that you get but overall quality is higher elsewhere. read more

First, everything but the sushi was good. Fried rice was amazing, salad bar amazing. We got the recommended rolls: cowboy, Godzilla, bubba Gump, yellow tail, and the double j. The raw fish was warm not even room temp cool and it had seemed like it had a weird texture/sliminess that was not appetizing. I'm a sushi lover, however during lent I make an effort to have it on Fridays, and since I've not been here yet, I decided to check them out. Near the mall on 82nd, so you have plenty of parking, just watch out for massive pot holes! Was able to get a seat right away, and they explained the concept of all you can eat (which I loved because I've never had it until today) for 35 dollars you can get anything off the menu (outside of drinks) if you leave a bunch of extras you get charged; which is a great way to combat food waste. Sushi Yama is easily one of my favorite AYCE sushi spots in Indianapolis. The price is definitely worth it for everything you get; unlimited appetizers, sushi, sashimi (dinner menu only) a salad bar, and even ice cream. Every time I've gone, the food has been fresh, flavorful, and consistently good. The restaurant and bathrooms are always clean, and the staff is friendly and attentive. You must do all you can eat at this restaurant, as it's the only option which is different! You have 90 minutes for your meal and will be charged for anything you didn't eat which is great so they don't create waste. We started with some appetizers and they were a 10/10. The portions were small for the appetizers which was nice so that you could try a lot of variety of options. There was a small salad bar, ice cream machine, and fruit bar that you could help yourself at. I only tried the fruit of the 3 but it tasted very fresh! For a reasonable price (around $35 for dinner), this place offers great sushi and Japanese dishes for all you can eat. Highly recommend trying any sushi roll, fried rice, hibachi steak, and fried tempura ice cream! The food tastes great, and they serve it pretty quickly. We have multiple different servers, and Kelly was the best. She stopped by our table multiple times to check up on an order that never arrived and made sure we got it. My husband picked out this restaurant for us to try. It's located just outside of the Castleton Mall. We came for dinner around 6pm and it wasn't crowded at all. Even if it was, there would be more than enough seating available. Lots of natural lighting during the day and a reasonable amount as it gets dark. Very cute set up. Easy to navigate. Our server was very friendly and service was EXTREMELY FAST. We did the all you can eat dinner and for about $35 we thought that was more than a steal. In total we had: fruit, salad, cheese wontons, dumplings (i think?), Cowboy Roll, Shrimp Tempura Roll, Chicken Tempura, Steak Hibachi/Rice, Shrimp Fried Rice, Ramen and Ice Cream Everything but the ramen was amazing honestly. Even though the ramen was a little disappointing, our server notified us before hand it wasn't the best so we loved the honesty!! Despite that, everything else was delicious. This is the first time I came here with a group, they explained how everything works, food and salad bar are included, but drinks are separate. Their salad bar was really great!!! It was full of fresh fruit, a couple of salads and side. I loved their pickled ginger and their seaweed salad. I wish they had ginger dressing, they only had ranch dressing for their salads. That being said, if you want the most bang for your buck, the sashimi and jalapeño yellowtail (my favorite) are the way to go. The bigger rolls come with a lot less fish, but the smaller rolls come with more shrimp. Sadly I didn't take any pictures as I was too excited to eat lol. I found Sushi Yama from TikTok and definitely glad I went to try it out. The portion sizes are perfect for ayce. Not pictured we got calamari and chicken karage for apps and they were small and just enough to try and see if we liked them and wanted more. Go for the sashimi if you want the best, the sushi rice is a little dry, but it could have been because of the time of day when we went (it was 4pm). Also not pictured, I got green mussels and these are to die for. I haven't been able to find anywhere that will do green mussels with mayo and then cooked here in Indiana and i am so glad I found it. They have a self serve salad bar, which is great for some sides while you wait. The staff is so sweet. As they are still in their soft opening I'm loving the atmosphere. It's a very large space so each table has some sense of privacy in that you can have a conversation without hearing everyone else's as well. They changed their menu rules. $21.99 a person base price. $34.99 a person for everything. I am fine with that, but if 1 person at the table wants to add ayce sashimi for $9.99, everyone at the table has to get it. Items like tempura shrimp are at a hot bar under a heat lamp now whereas they used to make a la carte fried items fresh. None of it was good. They are definitely packing on the rice with this change as well. Our first 2 times here were so good. Our visit today was very mediocre. We will be on the hunt for a new go-to sushi place. Our experience was mixed. The toilets were clogged and overflowing. We ordered shumai and they had some weird sauce on it. The service was good at first but got slower later on. My husband and I decided to make the drive to castleton to try out this new sushi place located right outside the mall. We went a little early (4.30pm) on a Thursday - not optimal sushi times. However, it was very delicious. Each dish was really tasty. Most standard sushi offered, plus various speciality rolls. They have a sushi bar and ice cream. For my husband and I went spent a whooping $100 including tip. That's a lot!!!! The food was worth it but I can't say we ate enough to justify the price and we were pretty hungry. I wish it was closer to $70 for both of us. No alcohol, soft drink each person. We won't be back because of the price, but the food was really good! If you can afford it, get your grub on!!! I almost forgot to mention, the service was very good. Our waiter offered great suggestions and encouraged us to try different dishes he thought we would like based on what we were ordering.
