I was craving some good ramen while I was in town and decided to give Ramen Station a try. The restaurant may not be the most upscale in appearance, but the food was absolutely excellent. The gentleman who served me was very patient and friendly as I looked over the menu and asked questions about different dishes. I started with the lamb skewer as an appetizer and was pleasantly surprised by how flavorful it was. For my main dish, I chose the Gyuunika Ramen with shrimp. It was a bit on the spicier side, so if you do not enjoy heat, you might want to try something milder. If you want to dial down the spice level, I recommend adding their house teriyaki sauce--it adds a nice sweetness that balances the broth perfectly. The dish was rich, hearty, and delicious, and I didn't mind the spice at all. Safe to say, I will definitely be dining here again before I head back to my home state. read more

While the beef itself was flavorful and enjoyable, the egg was too overcooked and kind of ruined the dish. The ramen content was fine, but the broth lacked flavor and richness. There were also only 2 pieces of meat in the ramen which was disappointing. I really like coming here when I am in a "Beer and Ramen" sort of mood, especially if I have a few friends in a similar mindset. Really like the okonomiyaki and takoyaki here and the skewers usually satisfy (sometimes they can be a little chewy), and I appreciate the ramen for being nice and filling with a good bite to the noodles. read more

Came to Ramen Station to continue to sample Madison's ramen joints. We came early, before a concert and were the only ones there although another group came in shortly thereafter. TBH, the decor is a bit dingy and run down with some worn-out chair cushions and stains on the cushions in the wall banquet. Service was fairly efficient but lacked any friendliness. We started with the Gyoza and it was ok not great, a bit soggy. I tasted the Lady's miso soup and the broth seemed a bit funky. I had the Tonkotsu ramen as my main. Unfortunately it was a mixed bag. The broth looked good with a creamy color, but was thin and watery and had little flavor. The noodles also were very bland. The toppings were alright: corn, scallions, bamboo shoots, nori, sprouts, fish cake and half a soft boiled egg. Unfortunately the nori was completely soggy and disintegrated. The soft boiled egg was legit, tasty. The chashu was pretty good. Small pieces but braised and with a very nice flavor and although they were small there were about half a dozen of them. So a quite mixed bag of ramen with some highs and lows. The lady had the stir fried veg and liked them. Mixed experience here. Don't see any reason to return. read more

Incredible place, even better than the ones in Tokyo or Kyoto. Their Tonkatsu is carefully boiled in broth and the owner is so knowledgeable and nice. It lacked almost any flavor, much less the creaminess and rich umami that tonkotsu should have. The dining experience was very fast and pleasant. We were seated and served immediately. The food was very tasty, the gyoza was gone before I even remembered to snag a picture! We loved the skewers and ramen. The spicy ramen was nicely hot, and may not be hot enough for heat lovers but was a nice blend for me. The flavorful broth and good selection of the menu made for a great dining experience I would highly recommend for lunch or a low-key dinner. The house sake was not as smooth as some sakes I've tried, but very good nonetheless. They do offer a discount for cash payments, so remember to bring some with you. Went on a Saturday at 11:30am, not very crowded. The rush picked up around 12:30pm, so plan accordingly. The restaurant is very cute, feels very homey and the kitchen smells amazing. The server was very attentive and food came fast. The gyoza was amazing!! Loved the flavor of the meat, very well cooked. The ramen was well made, all the ingredients tasted wonderful. Only note would be that the level of spice was quite low for my liking, so I'd say maybe go up a level of spice than you normally would. The service is very slow. When I needed to ask questions about my order our waitress had a language barrier. The customer service wasn't the best. Whenever I'm looking for staff there's no one to be found. Food was okay, I can't complain, it's definitely eye candy but it's difficult to enjoy when the waitstaff rarely checks in on anyone. The ambiance ofc is very beautiful. I just think they should have more staff to make the experience better. read more

What I liked here were the appetizer skewers and the nice selection of sake. The mushroom skewers were SO GOOD. Cooked just right and a small making the of this amazing tasting sauce. I love the One Cup sake and may try more next time but I know I can't go wrong with that kind. The ramen, sadly, I can't recommend at all. It was much more watery than I've had anywhere. We got tonkatsu spicy ramen and fried rice with chasu pork. My boyfriend liked his fried rice. The ramen was spicy but the pork broth flavor was there but very light. I'm not sure if this is a Wisconsin thing but ramen places that I've been so far did not do pork belly. I love those pork belly in my ramen. My boyfriend wanted to find ramen while we were on vacation in Madison. I sort of warned him not to. Being from LA, I sort of knew the ramen out here would never compare. PRICE: 5/5 The place had very fair prices. The ramen was $9.99-11.99, which was definitely on the lower side. The appetizers were also a very good deal, with the skewers being especially cheap. The egg was also a good texture, although it lacked any strong flavors. The noodles were horrible. They had NO flavor and didn't taste fresh at all. It tasted like boxed pasta with no salt or butter. Just plain noodles. It was almost shocking how little flavor this bowl of ramen had. Again, I may have been spoiled with quality ramen in LA. I will say if you just want to eat somewhere fun, you will have no problem eating here. My first 'new to me' restaurant meal of 2019 was a success. My hubby and I were the first lunch patrons on a Saturday. I was pleased to see that the restaurant quickly filled up. Our server was friendly, helpful and efficient. Our food was delivered by another person, which I feel is the most efficient. We started out with three skewers: Squid; Chicken; and Beef. My #1 favorite was the chicken skewer=mmm...juicy and tasty. I feasted on a Miso Ramen Bowl, and my husband enjoyed a Winter Special-Beef Don. The Miso bowl was bursting with ramen noodles, tender slices of pork, veggies and hard-cooked egg. Perfect for a cold winter day. My hubby enjoyed his rice with beef and veggies, too. Food recommendations: spicy tonkotsu miso ramen.. miso is bland but spicy has amazing flavor. I exchange the pork for chicken (I'm not fond of the fattyness of pork) and then I get the Chicken fried rice. Such a rich of flavors. You won't be disappointed. Service: I know they recently trained someone new (I go here quite often to know new and older faces) I think he's still learning but the older gentleman who takes orders. Very kind. Still a solid 4.5 stars from me. Just updating my review from last time to include that we tried the beef skewer, spicy tonkatsu and shoyu ramen. The portions were very generous and we enjoyed them both, especially the shoyu, as it had more flavor than other shoyu ramens we have had before. While I still enjoyed the spicy tonkatsu, I believe the regular one is much tastier. Overall to compare ramen places in the area: ramen station has many more options than ramen kid and better egg, but ramen kid has better broth. They are both comparable for a decent and reasonably priced meal. I'm personally not a fan of the hip newer places including Morris and Strings ramen because they are too salty for my tastes (even though they have a cooler and hipper ambience), but this is all personal preference. read more

Overall: good flavor, but light on additional ingredients. I ordered the spicy tonkotsu ramen. The broth was very tasty, and I could actually taste the marinade on the egg. The ramen came with a large portion of noodles, which was great! However, it was very stingy with the other toppings. It hardly had any bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, or corn (all of which are very cheap ingredients). It had some ground pork too, but not really that much. It was $12, which wasn't bad at all, but I expected more than just noodles with minimal extras. Ramen Station is better than some of the other ramen places in Madison, but it could certainly improve. The ramen would be much better if they were more generous with the vegetables. Made a last minute trip to Madison, and my friend told me good things about this place. I ordered their special of the day, spicy tonkotsu ramen, and gyoza (pan fried chicken dumplings). The gyoza came out first, and it was pretty good. Not much to say about it. The spicy tonkotsu ramen came after, and the broth was delicious. The broth had a great creamy pork flavor, and the spiciness adds to that. Everything was cooked well (noodles, eggs, fish cake, etc.). It also came with ground pork, which I did not know how to feel about because i really like my tonkotsu ramen with pork slabs. It was actually pretty good because each time I dipped my spoon for soup, there would also be the ground pork goodies. I tried my friend's regular tonkotsu ramen, and it was good but more plain because of no spiciness. However, the regular tonkotsu ramen came with pork slabs, and it was super delicious. It literally melted in my mouth. Overall, ramen station is good with their specialty, ramen. I did not experience any flaws. I definitely knocked out on the ride home. The chashu was also moist and tender, but there were only two tiny pieces in the whole bowl, totally not like what they showed on the menu photos. And the marinated egg was overcooked a bit. Everything tastes good, but I wouldn't say it's a Japanese restaurant. It's more like Chinese to me. I thought the fried chicken would be like the Japanese ones with a slight of lemon on top. But it was more like the Chinese-style chicken popcorn. The udon was ok, but really, it's more like Chinese style stir fry. The service and atmosphere are both really good.
