They are so tasty, just like home made ones. The pork, beef, chicken, and green chili with cheese are great. The quality was terrible. the masa was so dry nothing could help, not even eggs over easy could add moisture. Go to place for fresh guacamole but only on the weekend. That's if you don't feel like making your own. The guac that has all the fixings tomatoes, onions, cilantro and even the avocado pit. At 5.99 a lb not bad because it's fresh. They also have salsa, pico de gallo, and nopales. Here's a tip go early if you want some guac especially on a holiday weekend. The market does not make more after it's gone. Bummer. The also make fresh tortillas, and chips too. They also have tamales which are good too. While Ramirez' carries quick mart items, like canned veggies and laundry soap, they are also a carrier of Carne Asada meat, fresh Salsas, and Tamales. I am not a year-round frequenter of this Baldwin Park establishment, but I came the day after Christmas - after the Tamales Apocalypse steamed down a little. For this visit, I grabbed Carnitas, Queso Fresco, Tamales, and both their Guacamole options (chunky & spicy blended). I love all these things, and in terms of value, nothing stood out more than the price of a dozen tamales... It has to be the best price I've seen in the area. The spicy blended Guacamole was awesome! To the tamales, especially the Corn ones, they were fabulous! Nicely sized, and evenly prepared. The pork and then the chicken Tamales were also delicious. If you're near Baldwin Park, this is a nice stop to get some Mexicanesque favorites. For me, the Champurrado (Mexican Hot Chocolate) was amazing, perfect blend of chocolately sweetness and starchy thickness, just like it should be prepared. Honestly I've been a customer at this place for 20 years. Just Recently their quality has gone down the drain. The main reason I would frequent this place is because they had the best tortillas around, but now they remind me of the crappy Guerrero tortillas from the super market.. I doubt I will continue to be a regular.. the quality of there Tamales has also gone down the drain. Last time I bought them the masa was sour and tasted powdery... This tamale shop seriously pumps out tamales. They have vats and huge steamers. During the holiday season, they tend to run out. Don't show up at 2PM expecting the full selection to be available. We came to find the had chicken, elote, and dulce tamales left. We picked up some chicken and elote to go. I found the masa to be dense and not seasoned well, but the filling was good. The first bite of the elote was magic...super sweet, super corn-y flavor...then the law of diminishing returns kicked in and each subsequent bite was less enjoyable. Due to the fact that the masa was dense and packed right into the corn husk. I feel like I should try the other flavors before passing judgement, and I will. The staff here is nice and helpful. On weekends they have a salsa bar with fresh salsas and guacamole available for purchase. We saw some of it. read more

I'm not sure why this is, but it's pretty damn near impossible to find a store or restaurant that has good tamales, or at least in my experience. Which is why I was so happy to find good tamales in the most unlikeliest of places, a meat market. That's right, a meat market. Offering beef, chicken, pork, corn and sweet tamales, these things are all freshly steamed and delicious. If you want additional proof as to how good these things are, just try going there a day or two before Christmas. I had to wait in line for 30 to 45 minutes just to get to the counter. Personal opinion, they are super moist, really greasy where you will get your hands dirty if you don't open the wrap with 2 tongs. That's why it's so good. It's not for healthy people (go buy them from Trader Joes). I bought chicken and pork tamales. Growing up next to east LA, I must say I prefer the Ramirez Meat Market tamales. There are caveats. I heard there were long lines on weekends, so don't go on weekends and holidays. I went on a Monday night in July and they had tamales. You could probably buy 10 or so, but large quantities. The other caveat is they don't really speak english there, only 1 employee did. Not a big deal. Just get your spanish on "tu tienes tamles hoy?" and when I asked "tienes salsa?"...they have red and green, I got green SALSA...isssss....amaaaaazing by Maria's Salsa Inc. "Salsa Verde de Molcajete". This made all the tamales taste great! I like them drenched!! I put the salsa on everything! So happy I found this place. Next time I will try the meat. read more

Heard many wonderful things about the tamales. A coworker brought some in so I tried a cheese one which was pretty good. I like them my family doesn't as their cheese tamales have a glob of cheese and a few slices of jalapeño whereas the ones I make has shredded cheese and chopped chilies. Stopped and purchased 1/2 dozen pork and 1/2 dozen cheese. They smelled so delicious on the drive home. Crack a pork one open noticed it's very big, plumb and moist. This is small business/meat market with a tamale business inside. You can see the large metal canisters with the freshly made steaming tamales right at the counter. The masa is wonderfully silky and not dry, with a delicate flavor that compliments the fillings of Pork, Chicken, Beef, and Cheese. The pork have more filling than the chicken. The chicken didn't have alot of chili flavor, but the pork was about a perfect low/med heat for me. I prefer the pork because I loved the chili's used which were traditional.. I didn't get a chance to try the cheese tamales, because I would have to wait another 40 mins. You see the pattern. If you order a day ahead, and go early, you hopefully won't have to wait for items to cook that kept running out. I had to wait 30 minutes for the pork as I could not return home empty handed with without pork! I went midday and waited with a group of others waiting for pork in this tiny area. It took me 35 minutes to get in and out, and the line wasn't very long. This is kind of place where people buy 3-4 dozen tamales, so that's why they run out. Christmas tamales is a very serious subject, and as I spoke to the locals in line, this is a local's favorite and it was mentioned that this place is consistent with their tamales. If you don't have the energy to make your own, and don't want to wait in a 3 hour line at the most famous Boyle Heights tamale place, but want a good sized tamale at a decent price then I would recommend. read more

I got the Chicken & Beef tamales! The mass was very bland for both along with very greasy.. The Chicken had potatoes mix in Soo as it cost more than the beef I didn't even get all the Chicken!! ‍.. The ranchera is very lean..no fat, it cost 5 bucks a lb. the marinade they use is AMAZING. say you want it prepared or they won't give you marinade. This place has the best meat hands down! The service was very accommodating and when you get to the front of the line, you order and your order is filled as you speak..no additional waiting for filling the order or waiting for the tamales to cook. The tamale wrapping comes with the the type of tamale printed on the wrapping...(no opening necessary to find out what you have)..clean, fresh and tasty.
