We have been here a few times and have never been too impressed. Pros: ambiance and service - it's a nice restaurant in terms of look and feel; the servers/bartenders have always been nice. Cons: the food is just not very good. The burger is soggy and not very tasty, the short rib ragu is very plain (even the server suggested we get a side of pepper when we ordered it), and the bruschetta is also underwhelming. We did like the BBQ chicken flatbread, but it was overpriced and small. Wine is good but also seems a bit overpriced. read more

There are places I remember for the food and some I remember for the ambiance. This one I think I'll remember more for the food as it was first rate. The lamb sliders and prime rib were amazing. I could've had seconds and thirds of those, no problem. But, as far as the environs go, it was only so-so. Most of the time I like open air plans, but the room could've used more booths as all the long tables gave it the feel of a hunting lodge. I don't know--maybe I'm just a fan of the feel of less large tables and more four-tops and two-tops as what you build a dining space around. I have to say the live entertainment was excellent. The guy on the guitar doing the whole spectrum of hits was perfect accompaniment to what turned out to be a great dinner. And the service was impeccable. Had a wonderful evening at Rancho Capistrano Winery in Ladera Ranch. We had reservations and were seated at a lovely booth. Brynn was our server and was fantastic. She was kind, knowledgeable, and very professional. We started with the spinach artichoke dip with chips, which was quite good. My wife had a glass of Bella Chardonnay, and I had a glass of the Capo Grand Blend. Both wines were very good. Brynn took our entree orders, and my wife had the grilled salmon, and I had the scallops. Both dishes were presented well and served at the perfect temperature. The meals were tasty and plentiful. We finished the evening with a cappuccino. Also, the young woman on the keyboard had a fantastic voice, and her music was soothing and lovely. Reservations are recommended as this place gets pretty busy around dinner. I made one via OpenTable to celebrate a special occasion and it was really easy to find the date and time along with seating preferences. You can choose from standard, bar, high top or outdoor (heated patio). I started with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc ($14) and decided to do the RCW Salmon. I subbed the jasmine rice for more roasted veggies and it was sooo good. Grilled salmon was seared to perfection and the vegetables tossed in that soy glazed sauce was chefs kiss. My fiancé got the RCW Cowboy Steak (16oz ribeye) and a side salad. The steak came with mashed potatoes, mushrooms, roasted vegetables and cowboy butter. Wow...what a meal! Now, how to re-create this masterpiece at home, haha. First time here, but I can see us returning soon. The vibe is nice and the food was tasty. I'd like to come back for brunch or lunch. There's a lot to like about Ranch Capistrano Winery. The staff is friendly and attentive, the Bordeaux was our favorite, and the space is clean and beautifully maintained. It's the kind of place you want to hang out for a while, with a glass in hand and good company. But here's the issue: there's not a single vegetarian entrée on the menu. For a modern, upscale winery, that's just hard to believe. You've got a few options like pizza, a salad or two, and some appetizers, but if you're looking for a proper meal without meat, you're out of luck. Nearly 1 in 4 Americans are vegetarian or actively trying to cut down on meat. It's not a fringe request anymore. And with so many great vegetarian dishes out there, it's frustrating that nothing has made it onto the main menu. At the very least, they could offer a veggie patty for the burger. Other easy adds: pasta with roasted vegetables, a grilled portobello sandwich, eggplant parmesan, stuffed peppers, tofu or sweet potato-based plates. Even a seasonal risotto would be a solid fit with the wine list. We'd love to come here more often, but until they put some thought into vegetarian options, it's hard to fully recommend. read more

Love the ambience here. The few things I've had so far to eat here are good as well. Their fig bruschetta is to die for. Though their tortilla soup is puréed which is just strange and I wouldn't get that again. My only complaint is the music outside... It is SO loud so there's no reason to go sit with anyone because you can't hear them. We had great service though and they created a table outside for us away from the music but it was still really loud. Their wine is quite tasty (we had the Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc) which were very nice and I don't usually like places that make their own wine. The pricing on the menu is inline with what you would expect in this area. I ordered the steak and eggs, my wife got the egg white omelet. Both came with their diced potatoes. She enjoyed her meal but it was filling and she could not finish. The steak and eggs were well prepared to based on my request for medium rare and sunny side up. The steak was a bit grey and was not particularly pretty to look at, but it was covered with a tasty compound butter and was very tender. I assume it was preped sous vide and finished on the grill as it had grill marks. My wife and I both noted that the potatoes were really tasty but over salted. We did not try the wine but the coffee was good. I would definitely like to go back and try some other menu items or perhaps the wine. read more

Despite being one of only two tables here on Friday night at 8pm, the service wasn't just bad- it was non-existent. So happy they opened a restaurant at this location. When we used to live in Ladera Ranch, we thought a winery would be perfect at this building and low and behold they've done it! This is a great place for get togethers. There is plenty of seating and the outdoor heaters make patio seating comfortable. I would still recommend a sweater or jacket if the weather is not it's normal sunny CA. Food is good and very photo ready but reminder this is more of a winery so the drinks are going to be better than the food imo. The menu online is a bit different in the restaurant but it offered more than what was listed on their website. The service can get busy and if you're on the patio it can be difficult to flag down the server but an easy walk to the front desk and the host was helpful to flag down our server for us to get us the check. Rancho Capistrano Winery puts out some seriously good vibes, service, food & wine! I came here for a birthday, and ordered the lemon chicken pasta dish ($35). It was absolutely delicious. It had such a refreshing lemon flavor, and mix-ins of fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, and more. We also split a bottle of their red wine, and it was one of the more tasty bottles I've had in a while. For dessert, we ordered everything! The Whiskey Bundt Cake was incredible, as was the creme brûlée and apple cobbler dessert. My main reason for knocking off a star is because the meal was around $70, just for me. I can go to a nice Brazilian steakhouse for that price. I'll definitely return, but only for special occasions. read more

My celiac friend and I came here for lunch a couple days ago. She also has a health condition which causes her to have extraordinary hearing, so she actually wears ear plugs and noise cancelling headphones every moment she is out in public. We found one and sat:) Our server was helpful when we asked questions about the gluten Free items on the menu (and there were a lot- so that was awesome!!) We ordered the pork belly, truffle fries, and the Ahi Poki Nachos to share, along with two drinks. The first two apps came and they were both super yummy. The Ahi pokey nachos were delivered later, and looked delicious at a glance... But once I started really looking at them, I noticed they had fake crab meat all over the chips. Yuck! I was disappointed that the menu didn't label it in a way that would let me know it was imitation crab- otherwise I NEVER would've even ordered it. Have you seen how imitation crab is made? Don't take my word for it - look it up and see if you ever want to eat it again lol. There also wasn't any sauce on the nachos, just the poke itself... So all of the chips were very dry. I love the concept, but it was a total miss. After a very awkward minute with our waitress, she asked if we would like to replace it with something else. We chose the Gorgonzola gluten-free flatbread. It seemingly took forever to come to our table, and we joked that we probably shouldn't have ordered something after sending an item back. Once it finally arrived, it was REALLY burnt. I forgot to take a photo because we were so hungry at that point, we ate it anyway. It was actually still pretty good, but definitely couldn't eat the whole thing as it was so hard from being burned. I would likely return, in hopes that this was just an off experience. My suggestion to this restaurant would be to definitely change the menu wording on the nachos... This was my first time eating here, I had been in for wine before, but had not tried the food. We went in on a Sunday afternoon for the patio seating because it was a nice, sunny winter day. I loved the cheese, but didn't love the heavy sauce, they do however get extra bonus points, because they had gluten free options to smear it on. My hubby had the burger, it was really, really good! Ambience inside is excellent and they have a very nice, dog friendly patio and the server and bartender were super friendly. So here's my cons, first, the server was taking tables in and out, so when we needed things, another beverage, a new napkin, it was sometimes hard to catch someone. I was in the mood for white wine based on the apps I ordered, they were out of 2 that I wanted. I'll give them a small break, because it was a Sunday, but they are a "winery," so if they were going to be out, it may have been nice to add some other options. The flood of sauce on the Brie was heavy and overwhelmed the natural flavor of the cheese, I'm more of a fan of a light drizzle and some fresh fruit. Last thing, I think the lovely patio would be an excellent spot for a live guitarist or some sort of music on the weekend, we came after brunch, so I'm sure they were busy eatlier, but it was pretty quiet outside and lacked a little warmth, the soft sound of some live music would have made it an A+. We decided to check this place out because of a coupon we received in the mail. The restaurant is huge and very nicely decorated. There is inside dining, a patio, and a bar. The hostess was very welcoming. We decided to have a beer at the bar while waiting. I was surprised to see that they had Brewery X on tap. I'm not much of a wine drinker, so I definitely can't comment on that. However, their selection of wine looked amazing from my perspective. We had a nice table on the patio. Our server was professional, made a good recommendation, and everything we ordered came out right away! The menu selection was good. I was on the fence, but was in the mood for a pizza. My husband ordered the RCW Cowboy Steak, of course. Unfortunately, it came out cooked medium. Our server took care of that right away and a few minutes later came out a perfectly cooked medium rare. My husband is a steak connoisseur, so I was bummed that this happened to him of all people. But hey, they definitely redeemed themselves. The meat was grass-fed, and it was seasoned well, so great job on that! We ordered the Brussels sprouts as an appetizer. Wow! They add prosciutto to them and it's such a good idea! CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS! This place fraudulently charged me an extra $20 on top of my generous tip for the horrible experience -- We were a party of 3 who stopped by on a week day for lunch.. We waited 15 min for someone to even greet us at our table. The server, Yameleth, seemed nice but obviously had minimal experience in the food industry so we were being very patient after seeing how inexperienced she was. But then it got worse -- We waited another 15 min just to get water and utensils on the table, and an additional 45 min for our food and WINE to arrive (which was literally just pizza and a kids meal......). So we waited over an hour for mediocre food that tasted like it came out of a frozen food box. In the mean time, we just see cockroaches roaming around. It was disgusting. The next day I check my bank statement and see that my card was fraudulently charged for an additional $20 that I did not sign for. Im not sure if Yamelethe did it on purpose but that amount was manually entered somehow according to my bank. I kept my merchant copy, called the restaurant, the manager asked for my entire credit card info over the phone, like WHY, I said I don't feel comfortable doing that, she sounded like she didn't know what she was doing so I offered the order #, said she'd call me back 15 min later, and never called back. So I gave her a full day, called back the next day and was hung up on. This was the most unprofessional restaurant I've ever been to. read more

This is our favorite restaurant. The location, the wine, the food, the service. All incredible. We have been members for years now. But throughout the years they keep removing all my favorite things from the menu. I was obsessed with their gluten free pita and hummus, they removed it. Then they had lamb meatballs, removed. And I always always got the GF salmon and rice plate for dinner. Now gone and replaced with an non- GF salmon option that has dairy in it too. Stop removing GF DF dishes and not replacing them with a new GF option please. There is now nothing I really want on the menu and we will probably start to go to other restaurants. So sad. read more

Took my husband here for Father's Day! We enjoyed a relaxing meal with some wine. We opted for the house red wine. Very tasty! My husband got the Father's Day steak with mashed potatoes. Another restaurant we found on OpenTable and decided to try. Last night, our first time dining here, we were skeptical about dining here. The mixed Yelp reviews made me question whether to try it out. Well, Yelpers, I can safely say that, in my personal experience and opinion, Rancho Capistrano Winery is a place to consider trying out, if never been. First off, when we arrived, we were immediately greeted and seated. They have a bar, as well, and it was busy. The place was semi packed with people inside, but outside on their patio, it was crowded. We decided to be seated inside. The ambiance was casual chic, and a ranch feel. They sell plenty of merch at the entrance. We were served by Eli, and he did a phenomenal job dealing with us. The menu was plentiful with California cuisine. I ordered the Fig Bruchetta as an appetizer, and the fig jam and Gorgonzola cheese balanced our tastebuds to a frenzy, with arugula topped off as a nice touch. We didn't try their salads because I was told that they were entree size, and we wanted to try main entrees. My boyfriend ordered the Cowboy Steak, and I tried their bbq chicken flatbread. Let me tell you, it didn't disappoint. And for dessert.....the homemade chocolate chip cookies with vanilla ice cream. Yummy! So, do try the flatbreads, they are proportionally right. The Cowboy Steak is great for bigger appetites. Both entrees were delicious and flavorful. As for their wine list, what a massive selection. We aren't big drinkers, so we skipped that. If you love wine, this is your place. Do get there early for bar seating. We certainly enjoyed our food and great service.
